Cannot Update Stock (Samsung) Email - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hello all,
Since the last firmware update (G930FXXS1DQHN) of my S7 G930F I have issues with seeing the folder content of several maps in my stock (Samsung) email client v4.0.87.0. Apparently, I am not the only one and have it with several (exchange) accounts. Before the latest firmware upgrade all worked fine.
The provided stock email in the firmware seems to be pretty old. Many newer releases of Samsung Email are available, but unfortunately, I cannot install neither of them (package conflict with already exsisting package error), hoping an upgrade of the stock client solves my issues.
Is there a way out to upgrade the stock Samsung email client on a non rooted S7? Thanks in advance for replies.
For info: my T813 tablet running stock email v4.0.70.0 does NOT have this issue of not displaying folder content of some email folders.

Thanks for reply, but I had already Secure Startup Enabled and multiple reboots....but do not see the relation with respect to options to install APK updates of stock apps. One only adds a password to eneable starting up the system. Or am I stupid ?
Any more detailed info availble how to tackle this one?

It is the known fix for the "Package name conflict" error when trying to update stock apps, works without fail for everyone up until now
Either disabling or enabling secure startup and then rebooting allows the install, doesn't seem to care which one you do as long as it is the opposite of whatever you had set when it wasn't working
Try Disabling Secure Startup > Boot to recovery > Clear cache partition > Reboot > Install APK
If that fails, enable Secure startup again and reboot once more, try installing apks
Keep in mind, if you reboot without toggling secure startup, apps will fail to install again on next boot, they only install after you toggle that setting and then reboot, rebooting normally will break it again

Well, now it is clear and it worked. Updated to version 4.2 now . Thanks for the good tip!!! It will make my colleagues happy as well.

:good:

Funny to see that this trick does NOT work on my Tab S2 T813, unfortunately.

Yes, and also running on Nougat. Tried multiple times and switched between Disabling / Enable Secure Startup and immediate reboot, then install apk.

Rooted devices have no secure startup option
Not sure how you would install the updates apps without it, unless you know how to replace the stock ones manually using a root file explorer

[Q] SuperSU Cannot change configuration

Hi, first post
I flashed my TMOBILE US [SGH-T999] SIII with root66 and all went well. verified with rootkeeper I'm indeed rooted. Problem is when I first configured superSU i checked hide from apps list (figured id still be able to get it in /system) So although it asks for permission and still fully functional I cannot open the app to change the configuration. There was some codes *#*#1234#*#* amongst others I thought would bring up the app, but because the sim is no longer registered to a network it just gives a network error.
This has been going on for a week and would really appreciate a solution. Going to google play doesn't show any options. just a picture. If i disable in manage apps i can then deactivate on google play, but it didn't help. Also re flashed rom and nothing changed.
Should be able to open the app somewhere on the phone right? use file explorer to delete some config file that will reset to default?

Hi, to open supersu through the dialpad, please enter the following:
*#*#1234#*#*
or
*#*#7873778#*#* which spells(*#*#SUPERSU#*#*)
If that didn't work, check if supersu is still installed by going to manage applications.

Yeah mentioned the codes in my post. my girlfriend has a deathgrip on the phone right now but i'm pretty sure the exact error was: Not registered on network. I also mentioned that superSU is indeed installed cause I can clear su's data, etc from the manage apps area. I use groove IP for phone calls and I've been putting the code in the phone settings not the groove voip app if that matters.
bumped after a few days of waiting patiently.
Hi i was having similar issues, did you try
*#234#* instead of *#*#234#*#* that worked for me before although my issue now is different.
i was getting an error and work around it by installing
System app remover (root) from play store
then went to apkmanger and click on reinstal Supersu, that bring back the icon
that did not solve my problem of the dialing code not working anymore, but it got me to super su app
hope it helps

I know when iam trying this i get the error "netzfehler" in german how did you root? and did you scale your dpi?
No I did not change dpi .. maybe this is the reason ?
I rooted by installing TWRP then wiping data ( this is to get rid out the boot looping issue ) then flashed SuperSU.
an by the way, I'm using 930F version

May be you can consider flashing back the Stock ROM and have your VR installed first then do the rooting again.

Well i am all out of ideas...
i installed the apps of my brothers s6 but no luck... everytime i plug the s7 out of the gear vr and press next the same error pops up... maybe if someone could spare vr services backed up via titanium backup it would work... for anything else i guess i have to wait for a software update or fix or whatever.

Somehow i am glad to hear that i am not the only one with that Problem.
Did you play around with the dpi?
I read another thread on Oculus community forum... this issue occurred before even on other phones...
some says it could be coming from Oculus servers.
I tried to logcat the app ID 10072 that tried to read the DNS before displaying the network error.
also tried...
to fully reset the device
to run the app with/without Sim card,
with a VPN
deleting cache...
no luck so far
I read that the Facebook app has to be installed or enabled can someone confirm this ? and try to log in and launch the setup wizard ?
if don't have a Facebook account.

No, you only need com.facebook.appmanager and com.facebook.system services. Not the Facebook app itself.

edit:
How do I turn on App Manager and Installer ?
To turn on the App Manager and Installer, tap on the "Settings" application, then "Applications" and finally "Application manager". Make sure you have chosen the "All" category and find the following applications:
com.facebook.appmanager (App Manager)
com.facebook.system (Installer)
Tap into each and make sure they are enabled.
Unable to find com.facebook.system
If you are on Android OS 6.0 (Marshmallow), com.facebook.system may not be visible. Please try the following steps:
1. Navigate to Settings
2. Tap on Application Manager
3. Tap the More menu in the upper right corner
4. Tap Show System Apps
5. This will make com.facebook.system visible and allow you to enable it.
The App Manager and the Installer must be enabled before Gear VR apps can be installed and updated on your mobile phone.

you can't install apps that have been signed by a different developer, and replace with the current one. metaphor, you have a girlfriend, but your trying to get another girl who looks, and smells like your current girl, but her name is different. Since your in a beta OS, you can definitely expect bugs.
have you tried Factory data reset? there may be residual files from previous OS.

If you have secure boot on disable it, restart your phone, try Again. Worked for me couple times
It's a vice versa situation. If your secure boot is on then disable it else vice versa. And reboot your phone and then install the app. It will surely install. Its not like you've a girlfriend situation?

I use ESFile Explorer to copy the new APK into the folder where the old APK is located - firstly delete the old app then replace with the new app (ensure the same name is used). Some apps are hard to find so I use BKDisabler to find the exact path of the APK I want to replace.
It worked for me as I replace the Device Maintenance App on my S8+ with a newer version off APKMirror
If still having issues, the method below may work too:
TAKE A BACKUP FIRST IN CASE IT GOES TITSUP
Download AromaFM here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108&page=2 ((its a file manager that doesnt install on the phone, just runs in recovery)
Download the APK to are trying to update and put it either on an sd card or in the download folder on your phone: You will need to know where the current APK is located on your phone (usually apps are located in /data/app or /system/priv-app/ or system/app/ before going to the next step...... so for this example the APK is located in /system/priv-app/camera)
Reboot into TWRP Recovery
Install AromaFM
Go to your downloaded APK and either cut or copy it
Then navigate to the /system/priv-app/camera folder and delete the old APK then paste the new APK
Reboot
Now you should have the updated APK installed

The issue is present only on BTU/XEU CSC (G930FXXU1DQJ3) ( Did not try others)
Tried PHN (G930FXXU1DQJ1) and ROM (G930FXXU1DQJ3). They are fine.
There is different Samsung Messages version 4.1.31 ( BTU/ROM ) vs Samsung Messages version 4.1.28 ( PHN ). So it should be related to something within CSC not within app version.
I fixed it by installing Samsung Messages 4.2.03.12 Latest version targeting Android 7.0. Newer versions will most likely create more problems.
You can also use Android Messages

Hello,
I'm having trouble installing APK's from APKMIRROR. In various applications of Samsung e.g. Gallery, Browser, TochWiz, Bixby, Calendar, Clock .... I always get the error message "Application not installed. Package is in conflict with another package with the same name".
I do not have root.
What is noticeable is that after an update from Android (also the monthly security patches) or at a factory reset I am able to install all system apps without problems (also the ones mentioned above) or to run an update. But if I restart the phone, it will not be possible to update system apps anymore. It is always the o.g. Error message displayed.
Can someone tell me why this is so or what I can do, so that the update always works?
Resetting the app (uninstall the updates / empty cache, etc.) brings nothing here.
Where is the problem?
Thanks for your help.
Toggle secure startup to on and then reboot your phone. Install the application.
Settings - Lock screen and security - secure startup. Check require password...
If it is already checked, uncheck it and reboot.
Sometimes you also need an wipe cache from recovery. After you install your app you can toggle secure startup to original state and reboot ?

Thanks for suggestion and link for samsung messages, it worked! The messages problem happened to me as well, on S7 edge dual sim G935FD, and italian update G935XXU1DRA2. Trying to understand what was happening I realised that the application did not crash with sms coming from a program (like those for adverts) but it crashed only for sms coming from a phone number either in the contacts or not.
thanks Marina

Question Upgrading to 12 from 11 on magisk rooted device.

I rooted this device (model XT2131-1 TMO) while it was still on the android 11 using magisk method (currently on v25.2) and it runs fine honestly but when playing games every time the system update window appears it will completely boot me out of said game. I always selected not now( as I know updates break root if you just update) but I wanted to try and just update it and work on rooting that version after but then I receive "Package Verification Failed" notice and nothing happens. After so many attempts of selecting "not now" it will completely stop for a few weeks then start popping up again. So far this is absolutely the only issue I have ATM. More an annoyance really. Is there a way to completely disable that system update notification from appearing entirely or where should I look to restore, update, and then reboot on Android 12? I'd prefer just get rid of the update popup as everything else works fine. I'd appreciate any help thank you.
I also just remembered I've asked this in another thread but in this one im asking more about preferably disabling the system update notification entirely which will fix my main issue of it.

Solution: flash current stock kernel and run update again. You can grab updated stock kernel from RSA and patch and regain root

You can't delete it but you can certainly freeze it find an app like SD maid on Google Play you can freeze all the update apps and associated dll files there's about six or seven of them
I've still got an older pro version of that actually. Ty I'll look into that.
I'm seeing two under sdmaid. Both say frozen already. Which one is the actual android system update app pls?

Search for "ccc" , "ota" , "fota" or "update"..… system update has multiple triggers.

I also just remembered I've asked this in another thread but in this one im asking more about preferably disabling the system update notification entirely which will fix my main issue of it.

Yes but there is android system update and then Motorola system update. I've disabled/froze(yes using sd maid and other root accessed app managers separately so as not to mess up anything else) both and their services/triggers (anything linked to ether) each at a time for a couple days and both at the same time and still appears constantly. Only thing I can think of is to completely reset to full stock,go to 12 and reboot ....
Try to disablw this application. i read that this help. I do not vouch for it, I’m not responsible for what happens due to it.

Look for an app called preference manager on Google Play.
Of course it'll require root.
Select each individual app it'll take you to the XML file it creates.
Look for all the timer entries and change them to zero basically make a mess out of it if you will.
As long as you've disabled all the receivers that should stop the app from Auto Wake
