I've been waiting for this app and am not disappointed. What a great way to remote control your desktop. All you need is this client on your Evo and a free account at logmein.com. Total no brainer setup. The App is in the market as of today. Very cool.
This is by far the most underwhelming product logmein has come up with. I was a beta tester and I can tell you I would recommend waiting on this to mature (or not buy it at all).
This app force closes, has a memory leak, sometimes will randomly log me out of my pc, and my personal favorite - restarts my phone at will.
I have tried it with
- stock rom
- rooted rom
- diff evo
- new sd card (for giggles)
- on wifi
- on 3g
To ask 30 bucks for this is absolutely crazy. It's a pitty really. I would almost think about it if it was reliable.
Yeah, seriously, this is one of the worst product ever and definitely the worst ever from LogMeIn.
Everything that fr0st said + the app doesn't even let you use your finger as the mouse. Rather, you have to drag the screen around to your static mouse position... W.T.F!
The web interface for LogMeIn is WAY better than this app AND it's free. $30? Again, W.T.F are these guys smoking...?

Ah, no. Not giving you 30 bucks to call tech support.
I used the beta too and found it difficult to navigate the pc with the static mouse. The 30 dollar price tag is WAY too much for an app in my opinion. Unless it does something amazing.

for those with the technical knowledge and ability, Wyse has a VERY nice RDC/VNC client available. (basically, configure your home pc to accept rdc connections and configure your router to allow the traffic through and viola...direct RDP connection...no logmeinscrewyou needed.)

All those issues pretty much stink. I've been using it for a couple days pretty hard and have not had a single issue....yet. I'm using a rooted 1.47 and have used it on wifi, 3g and 4g without a problem. The screen movement under the mouse takes a little getting used to but I kind of like it now. I'm new to android and have not tried any of the other remote apps but it sounds like I need may to, to get some perspective. For now it is the only way I can run my company scheduling program on my Evo.
What about a remote control software for mac?

I haven't had any force closes with lmi for android and I've been using it for over a month. To be able to remote into the more than 100 pcs that I support, from my EVO, is a huge time saver. Worth the money to me.

I am just saying I would not recommend it. If it works for you thats awesome. I support clients all over the US and logmein would be a great benefit to me. However even when you contact tech support the tell you "its a new app, give it time". So I am waiting for it to improve.
Also. Please provide the rom your using a point of reference. I would like to do some additional testing.

OK, well Wyse looks very cool and I configured it and all, but just get a Could not connect to server message...

i use it to connect to both work and personal systems...in local network and through firewalls...both RDP and VNC...to a few flavors of Windows and one flavor of linux. aside from not being on a 22" wide screen it works quite well.
the only thing i can think of off the top of my head would be this....
on the username line - did you enter it like "mydomain\myaccount" or "MyComputerName\MyAccount" or simply "MyAccount".
also, you may want to try connecting via IP address...to eliminate DNS issues.

Just out of curiosity, what fixed it? It didnt work for me at first, then i set up a desktop password and it worked. My only issue with it is that you log into the computer as another user and cannot use it as to start music and have it played through the home computer.

The Windows Operating System requires a password be used on accounts that allow a RDC session (just a baseline level of security).
not sure about your last sentence.
- my assumption is that you are remoting into your desktop...double clicking on MediaPlayer...and not hearing anything on your EVO....i would expect that behavior.
- if you wish to stream audio from your home pc then you'll need an application designed to that.
- if you meant that you basically wanted to be able to scare your girlfriend by remoting in and turning on winamp with some deathmetal...you should be able to do that, but i have not tested it.
and yes, i pray they provide pleasant pricing for the product.
I just logged in using 3G instead of WiFi (so off the network) and it worked fine.

From reading that article,
Seems like airplane mode or a firewall would crush all the hopes and dreams of google and app devs.
It seems that every time we open an app it needs to verify that it's been paid for by contacting a "licensing" server and retrieving a response.
I feel like that could slow down launch times, and being unable to use an app when offline would be like UBISOFT hell all over again.
I really hope google puts a lot of thought into this..
I wonder if this if already being done? Every time I try to play that golf game on my EVO on an airplane while the radios are off I get a FC when it starts. As soon as I an on the ground and turn the radios on the game works fine.

I paid the money for it. I transferred all my files to my wife's Evo 4G, and thought "hell I'll see if it works..." Well it didn't. When I try to open the app, it tells me that I have to purchase it from the marketplace.
I'm all for buying apps when they're good, and I understand single user licensing. Guess I was just hoping I wouldn't have to spend double the money for all the apps I use.

I've heard of couples sharing the same email as apps get replicated on the two phone
I can confirm that they don't get replicated..
I have two evo's right now under the same email and they're definitely not replicating crap.

Now that's a problem I understand about paying for apps but not working when I'm in a place with no signal. I see a law suit brewing up. I paid for the app I should be able to use the app whenever I want to. Class action law suit coming real soon.

You do get a 24 hour refund option when you buy from the market so I'm not worried about trying before you buy. I do worry about not being able to play something when I'm in the bathroom at work because I don't get a signal there.

Just to clarify a couple of things:
There are 2 ways to use the Licensing - one is Strict - you CAN NOT USE THE APP WITHOUT ACCESS TO MARKETPLACE. Personally, screw that.
Option 2, however, is a non-strict policy. Server managed, where the license is 'cached' to storage. You also can programmatically set how long your app can be used without any license check.

That'll be up to the developer. I like this approach, as I'd be happy to do say... a 5-7 day turn around on the license check. After 7 days with no data signal, seriously, where the hell are you? LOL
Besides, if you've used a paid app for 7 days, and by that time can't decide if you need it or not - wow.
And of course, as soon as you got signal again, the license check would go through and you can use the app again, no problem.
I'm sure there will be UbiSoft and EA style implementations though - way too damn draconian for my tastes. I don't care to know every single second that someone's using my app. I would just like to know that they haven't 'copied that floppy' as it were LOL
I have no doubts this will be defeated in time, though. All it would really take is mimicking the server license response, which can be extracted from the locally cached license of an actual paid product.
People that pirate software are going to do it, regardless. Don't make the honest people pay the price of draconian DRM.
The best approach I can make as a developer, is give my customers the features they want, in a stable, good performing package, and discourage 'casual' piracy. Beyond that, it's out of the developer's control, and honestly, any more than that usually just pisses off the customer and annoys the pirates for about a day and a half.

Also...there are options for the Devs to allow for apps to be used a chosen number of times before they need to check in for licenses. Strict has to check in every time....other option allows dev to choose based on times used or time since last check in.
SO...all in all I am much less worried about this now.

With licensing the dev can choose whether an app can be accessed from different phones. It is an option...

Urrr, i think im missing something
This is actually a nice implementation for both the software developer and the user. Most will implement this where it only has to check-in every week or two. So the odds of getting caught in a spot where there is no connection is low.
At the end of the day, it is a pretty straightforward way to handle copy protection that really shouldn't inconvenience anyone.
Also it will bring more developers to the platform if they know they don't have to worry as much about piracy.
Piracy will still run rampant. People will find ways to circumvent this, that's just how it is. At least it will curb some piracy since copying and pasting an apk file wasn't much of a deterrent.

Yes it is an app that is similar to tasker. You program it on the website and then install the app and it automates certain things. As of right now it is only available on Android

Apparently, users hate it so far. The app requires your Facebook login, which is ridiculous. Its also being speculated that the app is farming data about your behavior through this app, and passing it to Faacebook.

I see a lot of the bad reviews seem to be about the facebook login, didnt see much about the actual product. Did not see much about the farming data and such.
I actually think this is a good idea. Facebook is a solid method of identification, and can be used cross platform. It may be true microsoft is giving an android exclusive (temporarily) as a beta test. When/if they roll it out to microsoft/apple phones they would not have to change their authentication model. It would be ridiculous to request "Live" for windows phones, "Apple ID" for iphones, and google ID for android users. This simplifies the process and allows me to change phones easier. I am not a fb advocate, in fact I personally dont like logging in to sites and such using my fb page, but as I said I do understand it. Clearly the fb authentification is respected, if the New York legislature thinks it should be required to comment on any webpage

Tasker is actually pretty simple to use, once you understand what its asking for.
Forexample lets make a program that silences your Ringer, Turns off WiFi and Bluetooth every Mon-Fri 8:30am - 3:30pm (Work day).
First, it asks you for the Profile Name, This is just something to identify the task. Lets call this Work.
Next it asks you for the "First Context" This can be considered your first "Variable" for us we want it to be Monday thru Friday. So we click "day"
then Change the "Month" to "Week Day", and Select Mon-Friday.
Click the Green Check mark.
Now it asks for a Task. This is what you want to do, so click New Task: And Name it, lets name it "Vibrate,Wifi,BT"
Now we can click the Plus in the bottom right and it brings up a menu of all the possible things we can mess with. For this instance, lets click Audio, then Silent mode. Now we want Silent mode to turn on, so change the "mode" to On click the Check mark
Now Click the plus, to add wifi and Bt off. Then click the Check mark.
Now to add the time, click and hold on your context, then click add. Now you can add "time" and set your times.
All Done.
That was an example of a simple program. Tasker can do a lot more, so explore and test

I agree. Tasker is WAY to involved to try and set up the simplest of tasks. I played with it for about an hour and uninstalled it.
Tasker is the best app I've ever owned. It's simple to set up if you just stop and look at what each thing is.
I started playing around with this today, had a few interesting ideas but there are still quite a few issues and limited api usage available.
This could be a pretty powerful tool if they open up the api's, easier for most than tasker, and can be as complex as you can code.
also i prefer to do all my programming on the pc and transfer to the device which on{x} provides.
Never used tasker so can't compare. But, onx seem fine so far if you like to get your hands dirty in JavaScript. You can still use published recepies if you are no into coding. It is still very buggy and consumes a lot of battery juice.

Good thing with Tasker is that it doesn't require any programming knowledge. This obviously requires knowledge of javascript to get the full potential.
I know there is a lot of gripe about the White list of what websites are allowed to use flash. I don't have a lot of knowledge on the topic so I wanted to fish around a bit for some information and pose some questions.
-Is it always going to be like this? Is it likely that they will release someway for users to control their own flash preferences?
-Is it likely that a 3rd party will release something that will allow a setting like this?
- [Edit] If more support for Flash is to be forthcoming, what would one expect the timeline to be? How long would it take? [I know this will mostly be speculation ]
- [EDIT] if firefox or chrome were developed for it, would they have to run off of the whitelist as well?
-As someone who hasn't touched windows 8 full, does the full OS have a similar flash limitation?

I don't think it will always be like this. I think someone may create a tool that automatically adds websites or simplify the process for us. Or we may even have a list that the community creates and we could possibly set our browser to auto download the list via options or script or 3rd party software. That being said, I do not think full windows will have the same flash limitation..at least not in desktop mode, because they can install whatever windows app they choose. It's an awesome device nonetheless.

There is no doubt that I am enjoying my new toy. However I really enjoy certain facebook games, like Marvel Avenger's and Draw something, but unfortunately the flash support of Facebook doesn't extend to these. I got this to replace my laptop, it's unfortunate that I can't play these on the go any more. I suppose a time line for flash support would be another question I have.
laptop replacement...I think the surface pro is probably a better option for laptop replacement than the RT. Unless of course you only do light amount of things on your laptop, and do not care about not being able to install 'regular' windows applications such as Photoshop. Even then you could remote desktop into your PC and use those applications, Some people have reported very good results using remote desktop on the surface, but I have yet to try it or myself. Don't get me wrong though, the surface RT is a very powerful device and a lot better then android and ipad as far as productivity IMO. We are just little behind on the number of applications, and even then you could argue that most android and apple apps are useless. Nonetheless, the do have us beat by the numbers. We get a real high quality app right out the box - Office.
I was at a crossroads before I purchased my Surface. I love androids and I couldn't decide between RT or android tablet. I played with the Surface and I feel in love, Whereas the android tablet would have been just like having a bigger phone. There's not much I could do in an Android tablet that I couldn't do on my Samsung Galaxy S3.
I also though I wanted the Surface PRO at first, but upon further research, I came to the conclusion that RT was the right choice. I wanted a Tablet that can do light PC related tasks, not a full mini laptop - I have a DELL XPS 15 and multiple desktops for any 'serious' work I may need to do. The pro will probably get HOT and windy and noisy due to the fans as well. I think a lot of people who purchase the pro may end up returning it and getting a RT because I do not think the PRO will functions completely like a tablet. I may be wrong but I guess only time will tell.

While an official tool to control Flash usage is quite possible, don't hold your breath. A few unofficial tools already exist, but tend to be a bit limited and/or cumbersome to use (I'm working on an improved one myself).
A Windows Store app, even if it could get approved, probably wouldn't work for most people; the relevant file is outside the app sandbox, so the user would have to manually grant permission to access it.
For Facebook games (or other places where an external video is embedded manually), try adding the domain of the Flash file itself (usually found in an OBJECT tag, with an extension like ".flv"). For example, if the Flash file comes from "http://flash.facebook-games.com/IMaedAGaem/flashgame.flv", you should try adding "facebook-games.com" to the whitelist. You can try using my old scripts (working on updates for them) for this, although I can't promise they'll work in that case (haven't ever tried). The link is in my signature.

Yes, but it would be nice to not have to. And I'm not always 100% successful
I'm looking for something that will have a few features
1. Remote location including turning on GPS
2. Remote phone locking/ turning off mobile and data connections
3. Prevent access to security settings
4. Prevent easy uninstallation of the app.
I think most parental control apps should fulfill this, but I'm struggling (on my phone) to get honest pricing details, what is "free" from the play store then seem to require monthly subscription.
Does anyone have any experience of these apps, and can maybe recommend one with a single payment (or even really free)

They all will be monthly subscriptions and to be honest any kid with internet access will be able to get around it. As a test I tried everyone I could find on my 12yr old sons devices. And within a few days they had it disabled. And they are not really all that tech savy. When I asked them about it they just said they searched the internet and found out how to remove it.

When I was in college I was an admin on one of our development labs. CS 1.6 by then was a plage there, most of the people spent more time playing it than coding. I removed everybody's permission to install software, they just used a portable version. I downsized their quota to about 50mb, they put it on the shared drives our university had. I downsized their quota there as well, so they shared the files over their quotas do get the full game there again. I made a script to search and delete the game files hourly, they had the game patched, so the files had names my script could not find. It was 2003, they did it as freshmen, and none was really skilled, and after looking at someone's browse history I just found what they used to deceive me. After that I gave up, printed a poster asking them to play only after 5 pm (when the classes ended). If you accomplish to have parental control on a kid's smartphone is just a matter of time and interest on the little guy/girl's part to have it circumvented.
At least if he finds a way around it he'll have learnt something
