I'm sure they're already downloading and developing new sweet custom ROMs.
Can't wait for the AOSP ROMs to surface to get rid of MIUI!
Great news for me as a MiMix2S owner!

Yaaay I think with this too https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-releases-kernel-sources-for-the-xiaomi-mi-mix-2s/ we are ready to get perfectly stable ROMs
Will need a working Gcam Mod for this to be worth the switch. If you leave MIUI, you're going to lose all the dual lens stuff and camera software processing.

I imagine that would need some kind of hybrid ROM, as it's tied to MIUI resources.
Yeah, the camera part sucks so hard. I would love to ditch MIUI (although the gestures are fantastic). But one of the reasons I upgraded from a Mix 2 was to get the much improved camera. Hope they find some solution soon.
Mi6 still doesn't have a great solution. We're using the old ass port from mi a1. Maybe once the mi a2 comes out there's gonna be an improved ported version.

It's really a pain since huawei devices are getting damn near perfect ports, since I guess their camera apps aren't as closely bound to emui.

I'm fine with what I've got. What does ICS have that's making everyone here wet themselves??
I have a feeling Samsung will release ICS for the SkyRocket by March. AT&T on the other hand..... but that's pretty cool because with all of the ROMS available (and hopefully upcomming ROMS and MODS) the current OS is still pretty cool and highly functional. I have one question Sean. IS there or will there be a way to enable NFC on the stock ROM. I don't want to keep beating this into the ground, but with ICS a ways off, NFC would be a nice addition to the stock ROM. Someday I will be ready to try different ROMS (more than likely one of yours), but until then I'm going to stick with stock. Thanks.

Skyrocket uses the same sound chip (yamaha), so it'd destroy it on the SR also.
Our ICS dev is even more destroyed by the fact that we have a different SoC, we'd honestly probably have to take the code from something like the Vivid or the Rezound for the drivers for the CPU, GPU, stuff like that, correct me if I'm wrong here dev's.

This is my first android phone regardless, so gingerbread is still cool with me. But i would like to get ICS eventually. But i take it we have to wait for samsung to roll out their update before we can start making true ICS roms. Sky ice cream sandwich is holding me over anyway.

Well, for starters, it's the first Android OS that's actually built to utilize dual core processing (not the case for Gingerbread). For everything else, try doing some actual reading on ICS sometime.

It's the single biggest leap the OS has ever taken (particularly on phones, since it incorporates all the advancements of Honeycomb as well).
It's much faster, optimized for dual core, features a fully hardware accellerated UI so everything is much smoother and more responsive, much improved multi-tasking support, a major redesign to the actual look, and improvements to most of the native google apps.
If the firmware of your phone is at all a concern to you, ICS is a pretty big deal. It doesn't reinvent the Android experience, but it's as major of a refinement as we've ever gotten.

don't you always lose image quality when switching from stock to custom rom, no matter if it's a Sony, Samsung or OnePlus?
many OnePlus users still return to stock rom because of the worse image quality on custom roms.
I've never heard anything different than that.
correct me if I'm wrong.
It's for almost every brand the same: AOSP never came completely up to stock, because of the framework and optimization from the original builders: The OEM. But since we have many good devs around, porting the Google Camera to fit for our device, at least non-pro shots will be equal, if not better than stock. You can come close with several other apps too:
• Open Camera
• Snap Camera HDR Pro (Smells a bit abandoned, to be honest.)
• A Better Camera Unlocked (Also smells abandoned, but works fine. At least for now.)
• Footej Camera Pro
• Hedge Cam 2 (With the correct settings, you will get par to better photos than with stock. Based on Open Camera.)
For normal, I'd list Manual Camera and Camera FV-5 too, but both are too old and are for sure completely abandoned.

Micky,
based on solely the image quality - would you prefer a custom rom on the op5/5t or the stock rom? and even though you probably don't own a crystal glass ball, what's your stand on this when it comes to the op6?
thx!
I was and I ever will be a user of CyanogenMod / LinageOS. At least, you should switch one time back, because of this:
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/open-ears-forums-key-actions-update.865969/
When this fixes come out, OxygenOS should really become obsolete in terms of image quality. But spoken of this: Isn't there a nice, working Google Camera port already out for the 5/5T? I skipped the 5/5T, because OnePlus really pis... me off for reasons - another story.

Hi everyone,
Another heads up with respect to a Mi A1 project -- one which will be of special interest to the webOS refugees among us.
The LuneOS project has just announced that the Mi A1 is their new target device. You can read all about it over at PivotCE: https://pivotce.com/2018/11/28/luneos-november-stable-release-doppio/
The LuneOS project is an effort to create an open-source webOS distribution for smartphones (and possibly other devices). It has recently received a major helping hand from LG, which has open sourced a lot of new webOS code developed for their smart TVs. That being said, LuneOS is not suitable for everyday use. There's a lot left to do and the project is run entirely by a group of volunteers who don't do timelines. So don't ask them when it will be ready!
What I really love about this decision is that they were looking for an inexpensive development device to replace the Nexus 4. That's exactly why I bought my Mi A1 -- and I think it's shaping up to be next in the line of great development targets, like the HTC HD2 and the Nexus 4. I couldn't be happier about that.

Bad? It's a project in development. As I mentioned, it's not suitable for everyday use and there's still a lot to do.
But the RIL and calling not working is a regression. Both used to work on the Nexus 4. The regression is likely the result of adopting a new device and the recent work to integrate with the Halium project. That's just me speculating, though.
Thanks for providing the test results. I'm looking forward to giving it a go and seeing what does and doesn't work at this point (and which of the old webOS apps I can install, etc.).

Hello,
I would like to test LuneOS on my Mi A1 but don't succeed in installing it.
Which stock ROM (7.1.2, there are quite a few) do I have to flash, and where can I obtain a working TWRP bootable with this stock rom?
I'm somehow not able to boot suggested TWRP image with latest 7.1.2 stock rom, maybe you could provide some links?
By the way: Is latest stable update >>stable<< enough to make phone calls and access LTE internet already?
Thank you in advance!
Hi,
I recently switched from Pixel Experience back to MIUI global because I couldn't live with the adaptive brightness problems and relative poor battery life. So far MIUI works okay, I changed the launcher to Nova, but I really liked the black notification screen / OAD on the Pixel devices. Like this: https://www.xda-developers.com/files/2017/11/Google-Pixel-Always-on-Display.png
Do you know if there's a mod / theme that can add this, or style the current notifications? Thanks in advance!
There is magisk module named Pix3lify. I haven't tested it yet...
Do you want that on a LCD screen?
I would highly recommend HavocOS, it's probably the best aosp rom for the Mix 2S. It puts pixel experience to shame lol.
