Trusted Contacts error "location sharing settings" - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Although I could run Google's Trusted Contacts app, on the OP5, I have not been able to install it on the OP6. During the initial configuration step, it gets to connecting with the phone's location settings and I always get an error.
The error message reads, "Error getting your location sharing settings."
WTF is that?
My phone's location settings are fine. I use Google Maps and Waze, almost daily. My location history is on.
Has anyone else encountered this and, if so, were you able to complete the Trusted Contacts install?

I've never used the app, but There is a separate setting for location sharing not location history. check your settings on google should find it there.

The only settings I've found have had to do with actively sharing my location, with specific people. I believe that's different from Trusted Contacts, which doesn't require I turn on location sharing with someone, and never turn it off.

I'm having the same issue on my pixel 2. Anyone have a solution for this?

Sorry hadn't been in Google setting in while didn't realize they really simplified them. No only place I see separate location sharing is on phone. And as you say this is turned on correct?

[Q] Re-enable location services consent?

Hi All,
I'm have been banging my head in search for this option but not able to figure it out. Few days back, I had accepted the following popup and also selected don't show again checkbox:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now, I want to re-enable this popup for my mobile. Is there any setting I can change and get it back?
Another issue I am facing is that my phone cannot remember the last selected "Location mode". Everytime I switch on location by dragging the slider, it goes to "high accuracy" mode instead of previously selected "device only" mode. Is this a known issue or am I the only one facing it?
I am on Stock Lollipop rom - LRX22C.
Thanks.
It defaults to high accuracy when you switch it from off to on again. As for how to re enable the pop up message, im not sure how to do that, besides flashing the system image that is.

Thanks for confirming. Can you help me with one more thing please, if we select "Disagree" on this popup, does it go to "Device only" mode? Unfortunately I am not able to test it out on my phone right now, and could not get any concrete answers on google search either.
I'm talking to Google support for bringing back the pop-up. Seems like even they are not aware of how to do it, and trying to figure it out with me. Let's see.. I will post the resolution here once I have it.
Yup, if you select disagree it does go to device only.
Managed to figure it out myself. I have posted the solution here..

location accuracy dialog

Hi there. My first thread here ... feel a little nervous.
I've got a question for you: if I activate my GPS there comes this dialog "improve my location accuracy (or something like that)". I checked, by accident, the checkbox "don't ask me again" and now I always get my location for all sources (WLAN, mobile cell, GPS). How can I retract this setting? I want to be able to choose my type of location finding again. Thanks a lot in advance.
Device: Google Nexus 5 (of course)
OS: Android Marshmellow (Stock ROM)

Thanks for this, but not what I meant.
When I have location disabled and I enable it ... there is this dialog. If you check the box it default enables all sources (WLAN, mobile cell, GPS). The dialog gives me the chance to choose from "just device GPS" or "all sources WLAN, mobile cell, GPS".
You have those options in Settings -> location -> mode:

The setting resets to high accuracy when location is turned off and on again. How to reset this dialog. One solution is to clear data of Google play services. How do I do this without clearing data?

Clearing data is the only way to do it. Or you have to manually switch the mode each time you turn it in..

GPS always on or not?

Hi,
GPS uses a large battery.
But I got off the GPS and got off all access to location.
Now, when I try to use an app as Mi Fit, every time ask me to turn on GPS but i Set mobile phone to turn on GPS only when I use App.
I don't undertand if I have to activate GPS every time and it starts when an app ask for it or, if I turn on GPS, it uses battery every day (and I don't want this).
With my old phone, for example, I didn't turn on gps for google map and tracking because it used 4g. Now Why I have to turn on GPS FOR EVERY APP?
I have mi account activated, with deactivate MI location and gallery sync because i use google photos for that.

Conclusion. Enabling GPS uses zero extra power except when location services are actually being used. You'll use more power turning it on and off than just leaving it on all the time.
Copy pasta from simple Google search. Your welcome
Just always make sure that Wifi Scanning is disabled under Location Services. This is a huge battery hogger. What this option does is keep your wifi active so that GPS can easily find you. Problem with this is that the option is kept enabled even if you disable Location.
Make it a habit to turn on and off Location from time to time. Only use Location when needed for apps like Maps/Waze/Grab/Uber.
As this option may be enabled by some apps after accepting this message whenever you open the app with your Location turned off

It's much better to answer "No" and just enable Location (not wifi scanning) manually thru your control center. Doing this will avoid the system to enable Wifi scanning automatically.

Can't login to Google, no maps in apps, location issue. OP8T

Hello,
I've recently got OP8T and I was not planning to use Google account on it as I simply don't need it. But since the start I'm having issues with location GPS, the issue is when I'm inside buildings it's not finding location by network/BT etc. eventhough in settings I switched it on. Only GPS outside of buildings works. Another issue is that I do not see maps in different apps like uber or food delivery apps. So I thought the issue might be because of my lack of Google account login, but when I tried to login I get this error "Couldn't sign it - there was a problem communicating with Google servers".
So I'm a bit stuck with lack of network localization, lack of maps in apps, and can't login to Google.
Any idea how to fix any of those issues? Photos of those issues here: IMG
Thanks a lot.

from the screen shots you provided you do not have cell service.
is the radio broken or are you running without a sim?
I tried both, with sim and without. The solution was hard reset and now it works. Thanks for help anyway.

LineageOS 19: unwanted GPS pings upon PCAP start

Hi people,
I want to make my Samsung s10e phone with Lineage 19 completely clean without any unwanted network communications, but...
... when I start network communication monitoring using "PCAPdroid" app I get GPS (system app) pings to some servers, watch the screenshot below:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Everything other is quite clean but this GPS pinging makes me crazy. I have Location service disabled in settings but it still works somehow. Those GPS pings happen right away after I start monitoring and if I remember correctly they repeat a few times a day.
Can anyone explain me why does it happen and how can I disable that GPS completely? I don't plan to use GPS in nearest future.
Maybe those pings don't associate with the Lineage but with the pcap app I am using? I'll appreciate any hints.
P.S. I have kind of basic gapps installed as well but they are completely disabled in app settings.
after doing some research I found that those requests belong to A-GPS system and those are requests to SUPL servers. after digging even more I found associated settings inside my Android system.
I found gps configuration files at following locations:
system/vendor/etc/gnss/gps.xml
/vendor/etc/gnss/gps.xml
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
I found following fields in the xml file:
SuplEnable="true"
LbsEnable="true"
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
as well as SUPL addresses exactly those which appear when I listen network communication using a pcap app.
However both of xml files are unwritable so I can't edit them. So I'd like to ask:
how do I edit those gps.xml config files correctly?
