LineageOS 19: unwanted GPS pings upon PCAP start - Samsung Galaxy S10e Questions & Answers

Hi people,
I want to make my Samsung s10e phone with Lineage 19 completely clean without any unwanted network communications, but...
... when I start network communication monitoring using "PCAPdroid" app I get GPS (system app) pings to some servers, watch the screenshot below:

}
Everything other is quite clean but this GPS pinging makes me crazy. I have Location service disabled in settings but it still works somehow. Those GPS pings happen right away after I start monitoring and if I remember correctly they repeat a few times a day.
Can anyone explain me why does it happen and how can I disable that GPS completely? I don't plan to use GPS in nearest future.
Maybe those pings don't associate with the Lineage but with the pcap app I am using? I'll appreciate any hints.
P.S. I have kind of basic gapps installed as well but they are completely disabled in app settings.

after doing some research I found that those requests belong to A-GPS system and those are requests to SUPL servers. after digging even more I found associated settings inside my Android system.
I found gps configuration files at following locations:
system/vendor/etc/gnss/gps.xml
/vendor/etc/gnss/gps.xml
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
I found following fields in the xml file:
SuplEnable="true"
LbsEnable="true"
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
as well as SUPL addresses exactly those which appear when I listen network communication using a pcap app.
However both of xml files are unwritable so I can't edit them. So I'd like to ask:
how do I edit those gps.xml config files correctly?

Adaway and the N5/Kitkat

Has anyone had any success with Adaway and the Nexus 5?
I have installed it and updated the hosts file with it successfully, and I can confirm that the entries are indeed put in /system/etc/hosts but all the apps including chrome seem to completely ignore these entries which of course ruins the adblocking.
Verifying the hosts file is being modified and there is stuff in it:
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And if I try and ping one of the entries at the cli, I get the proper 127.0.0.1 response:
But Chrome doesn't seem to care (yes, this is a fresh boot, and a site I'd never tried, so nothing would have been cached):
And it doesn't seem to be just Chrome ignoring it, other apps on the phone seem to ignore the hosts file as well.
Did something break in Kitkat?
And of course I figure this out as soon as I start a new thread thanks to another thread on here....

Basically it was the wireless proxy setting in my provider's APN. I received a new sim for this phone and AT&T must have reset all those settings. I deleted out the proxy under the apn settings and now everything looks like it is working well.
I'll leave this here in case anyone follows in my footsteps and has the same issue.

WiFive
Wi-Fi chat
Let the social be with you.
Launch WiFive application and immediately start chatting with whose who is using it too within your Wi-Fi network. No Internet needed. Also, there is no need to set up a server. Simple, eh?
But of cause there are some conditions.
In order to receive messages your device should not ignore broadcast UPD packets (as long as I know some devices are doing it, for example HTC)
Your Wi-Fi network should not block UPD packets (as long as I know some network managers are doing it). But it's OK if you are creating Wi-Fi Spot yourself. Google it, it's pretty straightforward.
Also, be aware of some possible message loss.
Have fun with unlimited communication!
Application is also available in Google Play.

I believe you can't make that open source..?
Hi your application is exactly what I need. I want to built a rover controlled by an arduino that is connected via usb to the first android phone. With the second one I want to send the control data (speed, direction). I've already implemented the control of the arduino and i can stream the video to my controller application. Your application would be the perfect way for exchanging the control variables between my phones.
If you could post the source code it would really help me a lot!

[Q] GPS issues MTK8377 Blueing M77 Android 4.1.1

Hello,
I have bought the Chinese PHABLET and before returning it or attempting to root (if failed) trying to find fix to GPS location services on it.
(not rooted, hence very many apps dont work and most importantly GooglePlay doesn't install/work properly, more about it : .xda-developers.com/showthread.php ?t=2637534 )

It was meant to have Maps and Location working, but it doesn't
General Location services settings
In having all of the features on- it works by locating device, but never gets SatNav accuracy of GPS (only by wifi location)
So back to the alternative ways through GPS EPO settings
Set correctly, I believe
and by luck I discovered, that this tablet using Mediatek components
In having settings as such it keeps on looking for GPS and no application managed to fix GPS positions...
in GPS a-GPS settings are two choices either NOKIA
or GOOGLE
Could somebody guide towards the answer regarding GPS not fixing?
Thanks!
Here are few more screen-shots:
I managed to get satellites to be in a view of few different apps, though none locks to them in neither configuration...
Is it permanent/terminal in such circumstances?
Whilst Android is primarily google's proprietary OS, used in non approved (supported of) device makes it useless in ever so many aspects, unless I'd find a way to make it think- it is googlePlay supported?
Or is it something in GPS configuration I could do, before attempting to root it?
Thanks!

[Q] Help with new battery drain issue

Hi there,
Over the past week or so I have noticed that my battery is going down a LOT faster than usual...
The culprit is "gpsd" that is using upwards of 30% of my battery every charge...
I have looked through everything that uses the gps and it's all either off or not using it.
How do I find out who / what is keeping gpsd going and make it play nice, or die?

Definition - gpsd*is a daemon that receives data from a GPS receiver, and provides the data back to multiple applications such as Kismet or GPS navigation software. It thus provides a unified interface to receivers of different types, and allows concurrent access by multiple applications.
Workarounds - Look for every GPS associated application on your device. Make sure to switch off GPS.
Go to Settings, then to Application Manager or Apps. And find the GPS associated apps, open them and force stop them. Sometimes they auto run and can cause battery drains.
Tell me how this goes for you.
Sent from my Nexus 5
All apps that need location services disabled / uninstalled and it's still there...
Okay...
Just wiped and re-flashed rom... no apps installed aside from BetterBatteryStats and GPSD is still there...
Maybe time to find something other than Omega

Some app named System tries to connect various IPs...need help in figuring it out

I got a Moto G phone running Oreo. I have a firewall installed, and its logs show an app with the name "System" trying to connect to various AWS hosted addresses. The phone is not rooted. I am trying to find out which process this System actually is, and what is its purpose. I am trying to somehow capture some traffic and find something.
If anyone knows what exactly this is and whether I should be worried or not, please let me know.

I found some more information using logcat:
[ 10-19 17:12:33.467 1229: 1309 E/LocSvc_xtra2 ]
connect:204] connect to 54.230.93.211 failed
This is one of the IPs that System process is trying to connect. Some googling tells that this is Location Service being used probably. I have GPS turned off completely when I don't need it. I have also given access to GPS only to OpenMaps application which isn't running at the moment. All google apps are in disabled state.
I also noticed that these connection attempts happen every 5-6 minutes.
I cannot use strace as don't have root. I am trying to route the traffic from the phone through my PC to be able to capture network traffic.
