Google Assistant deleting home address - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I'm at a loss here. I have asked Google for their help and they were useless. I have been using a Samsung Galaxy S8+ (AT&T). It has a feature called SMART LOCK that uses a Trusted Place, which has worked in the past without any issues. For those that don't know or use it, it allows you to keep your device unlocked while your at a trusted place. With that being said, My home address keeps deleting from Google Assistant > Settings> Personal Info> Home & Work Locations. My work location stays here, but my Home Location keeps getting deleted for some reason. I can't figure out what is causing it.
I've deleted it and edited it many times and yet it still happens.I thought it was an app or allowed program, but I went through them and didn't see anything that shouldn't be allowed in my Google account. I have deleted my cache, data and uninstalled updates on all, Google Play Store, Google Assistant as well as a few others. Yet my Home Location keeps on disappearing for no apparent reason. I wouldn't care so much, but I use the Smart Lock feature while home.
I have used Tasker from the play store and set up commands and this didn't even work to unlock phone while at home.
I have wiped my phone many times and it still happens. Does anyone else have this issue or at least know a fix or is this a bug?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Sounds very frustrating. I have not heard of the issue before.
I'm wondering if you have also cleared out your Gmail address/contact info and Google calendar profile, as well?
What happens when/if you create a new alias profile? Will the alias address remain?

I would have to get back to you on that. I haven't tried creating another profile (alias). I can create another Google account and see what happens. I was also wondering if it was a fb so that could be doing it, but I have the same apps on my tablet (running marshmallow) and it doesn't get deleted from there.
Is doing it on my phone and my wife's.

Nexus 5 Clean Marshmallow install, Now on Tap not working

I installed the official Android 6.0 factory image on my nexus 5 yesterday, letting it erase my phone (because I was having the issue where my phone only showed 12.55gb of space instead of ~26gb), and I can't get now on tap to work. I live in the US, and so my phone is using the English language. Whenever I tap and hold the home button, the little popup that introduces now on tap pops up at the bottom of the screen, but when I click on the get started button, it just closes the popup, and pretends I clicked the not now button. I've even tried going to the google now settings, and manually enabling now on tap, however, the toggle switch just instantly turns back off after I tap on it. This was one of the main reasons I wanted to upgrade to 6.0. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know how to fix it? I would like to avoid wiping the phone and re flashing the image if at all possible. (I can do it if all else fails, I'm just too lazy to have to reinstall all my apps, and get the phone all setup how I like it again)
Perhaps try wiping cache and dalvik cache, as well as fully uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of Google now.
just tried wiping the cache and reinstalling Google now. Didn't do anything. You think it would do anything if I redownloaded the factory image from google (maybe mine has borked bits), and manually flash everything but the user data part?
If you're willing, it's definitely worth a shot.
I checked the md5 on the archive I downloaded from google, and it matched, so I just manually reflashed the cache and system images... and it did nothing. I guess I may have to see if google releases an update or something that fixes it. I'm also in the process of saving up for the nexus 6p, but that'll take a while, which is why I wanted to get it working on my nexus 5 first.
Yeah so it definitely seems like an issue on their end, we just went through all the basic troubleshooting steps.
May have just found out the issue. Google hates Google apps users. Is there a way to use my regular gmail account for google now, and then use my google apps account for everything else? (email, contacts, play store, etc.)
I'm honestly not sure. You can try adding both accounts and playing around with their settings, for example i know that you can choose the account you want to use in the play store but I'm not sure about other apps like Google now, since I've never had to do this personally.
I figured it out. You can select which account you want to use for each app on your phone. So I just told my phone not to sync anything on my gmail account, and then selected it in the google now app. I hate how Google does this. First it was google+, then inbox (which I tried out, and didn't really like), now its google now on tap. So glad I am using the no longer available free version of google apps. I would never purchase google apps business, since Google has no respect for their apps account users. I hope they will eventually fix this issue, and allow now on tap to be used by gapps users.
Glad you figured it out man.

gmail does not sync

Hi!
I am getting crazy. :crying::crying:
Since about 2 weeks ago my H955(rooted and xposed) and my friend's (original) do not sync properly GMAIL anymore (actually it sync randomly only 3-4 times at day).
I tried everything: deleted the system app and installed a new one from the market, I changed the account on my phone but nothing. The problem is still there.
As u can see from the screenshoot it seems that my google account sync randomly the google apps.
Do you have any suggestion?
PS: I am writing here cuz I tried my account in other 2 phones and it works like a charm and we have the same problem if we use another google account on ur phones.
I just noticed that hangout has the same problem. This morning I found a chat from a friend of mine of yesterday morning
Same here
I've got the same thing going on. I've tried everything I've found online and nothing has any effect. My G Flex 2 is unlocked and rooted but on the stock rom. It's not my account because it works fine in my old Nexus 4, and other Android devices I use.
Has anyone made any headway with this?

I had a similar issue with hangouts for a while, but recently fixed it when I went around and logged out of all my devices, and logged back into just a few of the important ones for hangouts.
I think one big issue was when I got messages and a shared device was on and hangouts running, it "saw" the notification first and never went through to the rest of my devices.
try to remove and re add the account 2-3 times .
try to clear data from google related apps gmail playstore....
maybe these fixes also resolves your issues https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-solve-google-play-store-errors
Fixed!
Thank you so much! I found a fix on that androidpit article. Specifically I followed these steps:
Delete your Google Play Store data in Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Store > Clear data. Delete data from Google Services Framework as well (note: this will assign a new Google ID to your device, as if you had factory reset it, meaning your Google apps may temporarily act up afterward).
Delete your Google account on the device, reboot your phone and re-add your Google account in Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Google Account.

Ghost in the Machine

Hi guys!
Tried the search but came up with nothing so here goes...
I must admit I'm not very tech savvy but I can follow instructions no worries
I joined mainly because my Samsung Galaxy S8+ (un-rooted) started to behave very strangely early this year.
(and I want to trick it up after warranty expires in August ?)
Short story is that my Samsung account got hacked (or it at least seems like it) and the perp was then able to control my phone remotely. It was incredible watching my phone do as it pleased and all I could do was sit back and watch. Funny thing is that I've never actually toggled the RC switch (find my phone)...
My local carrier (Telstra Bigpond - Australia) account as well as my Google account got taken over shortly after. This would have given whoever it was access to my 3 cloud accounts which add you can appreciate would contain some sensitive material.
Whoever is responsible could well be a member on here so "Hi, there!! "
I pulled my sim and sd card and switched the phone off so I could decide what to do next.
I got a password manager app, changed all passwords (lucky my partner had a spare iPhone 5S sitting around up I could get online) and factory reset the phone.
All seemed to be going well until a few days ago...
I got "timed out" on my Samsung account (is that even possible?!) and while I was putting the password in (on the Samsung website - silly mistake!) just as I hit next I noticed a few dots in a square pattern that did a spinning type of graphic over the password entry box.
Continuing onto the next screen where the two step verification was, which was to send a text to my phone to receive a code and bang! Before I even received the text a six digit code appears in the fill box on the screen (same spinning dots in a square pattern) right before my eyes and then I receive the text afterwards! The numbers matched!!
I’ve also been asked to enter my Google credentials on more than one occasion lately from being “signed out”...
I don't know what to do!
I've tried all of the popular virus type apps and a few file managers to no avail. More like I've been hacked than a virus?
I've removed apps and shut down almost all of them as well as toggling between mobile data and WiFi and restored the phone twice back to earlier backups from over 6 months ago.
I've only ever downloaded from the Play Store apart from just the once getting your better version of the Play Store XDA (LABS) app.
What might be noteworthy is when I was using Google's help function it said that I had a "modified Android" and to contact manufacturer. I can guarantee the phone has never been cracked open.
I can provide screen shots from DevCheck (FLAR2) but I really don't know what I'm looking at. I also don't have any unknown apps etc...
I really don't know what to do next...
Any advice please??
Sorry about the long post.
All the best,
Crackles
Took phone to Samsung and they wiped the device and installed current (Android Pie 9 w. Feb 01 security update) so was looking forward to having a play with the new os until I went to add my Samsung account details...
Entered the password then the 2-step security kicked in to send a text to my number.
The earlier 4 circling dots dropped the 6 digit code into the fill box before I even received the sms! Device (on it's own jumped straight to the remote control button in the Find my Device security section) then attempted to change the password!
Only thing that prevented that from being carried out was I had biometrics activated and stopped the action using my fingerprint.
Seriously no one has any idea on what to do?!
I also had installed a replacement sim card.
I also can't uninstall updates on certain apps like Google Play Services etc, and some apps either have a dead link (press it and nothing happens) or Play Store can't find the app when I hit the downloaded from Play Store thingy at the bottom of the app description page. Hope that makes sense.
As you said, they wiped the phone, which means they most likely flashed the whole firmware, so there's no way for any malware to remain installed. But for what it's worth, you can try to re-flash the firmware yourself using Oding to make sure the whole flash is clean.
If your phone really was infected with any kind of malware, it must have been a 3-rd party app you have (repeatedly) installed. Some apps like Google Play Services cannot be uninstalled because they are vital for system's (or rather apps installed from Play Store) propper functioning.
Also, even if you had infected your device, it would not be able to take control of your device to the extent you described because of app sandboxing, which cannot be broken unless the app constitutes itself as a system app (because every part of the system has to be cryptographically signed, this would break the boot and brick your device) or the user (you) would have to allow the app the necessary permissions to carry out these tasks.
Hey Kernel thanks for the reply ?
Yes I know what I'm saying sounds crazy and even the missus said I was nuts till I showed her.
I can't screen record any more either...
I'm noticing odd little things like when I pull the notifications screen down for a second or so the NFC, Bluetooth and nearby icons are lit up but then revert back to a if they were off. I've switched all of these items off in the settings so are they being sneaky?
So far nothing really bad has happened apart from not being able to put my credentials into the PayPal app. That's using both Last Pass auto-fill and manually entering the email and password. I've un-installed and re-installed many times and it's the same. I'm not going to add any banking apps just yet.
Facebook also got installed in the background about 4 times within a few minutes. Seemed odd to me. I think I've got a screenshot of that.
Malwarebytes found an issue with I'm guessing a theme I got from the Samsung Galaxy Store so I removed it, chose another and it seems OK.
There's still a few odd things happening like certain settings reverting back to something different from what I'd set.
I'll keep tinkering and post anything that stands out.
Is there an app or something that can check every file on my phone and tell if something isn't quite right?
I don't have a pc at the moment but when I do I'll look into Odin.
Thanks again for taking the time I know I sound like a lunatic and tbh I really wish I was haha!!
Hmm interesting...
When I tried to upload the screenshot it stopped and said "bad request"...

Could all this weird bs be happening if the home WiFi has been hijacked?
Sorry for dumb questions.

Whatsapp does the same thing, autocompletes the code, before de sms is coming. This is not a malware. But, don't use password manager... Those can be hacked.
Really my password manager can be hacked?!
I'm using Last Pass.
So moving on I started to poke around the WiFi router and found the PnP enabled and my device was sharing with another device. I did not authorise this. I've since reset the router, changed the pin and access code, disabled the WPS and also factory reset the device that was "sharing" with mine... The owner of said device no longer lives with me. I'm just glad I confiscated the phone from him before he left.
When I'm researching possibilities of what could be going on with my phone the pages won't load. It's like my searches are being monitored and the data is being stopped. I tested this with my partner's phone (on mobile data) and the exact Web pages loaded right up on her's without a hitch! I tried again on mine and they just stopped. Pages would load straight away on mine if searching for something completely different like rc cars or bmx related content. Stuff to do with my phone just won't work ffs!
Like when I tried my first post on here. It simply would not post it up! I ended up having to copy/paste the draft and emailing it to another account that I made up on the spot on her phone. Hence the two usernames in this thread.
I got the 3C TOOLBOX app and in the app management section, Task Manager under service many of them are "custom entries" and I cannot un-tick, modify or reset back to the original version of any of these apps. Google Play Services was the worst. Pretty much every thing it was capable of doing had a "custom action" and I could not do anything with it.
Am I doing something wrong or do I have a serious invasion of my phone..?
Thinking about smashing this thing to bits and getting an S10+ ??
Also the Bluetooth, NFC & Nearby buttons almost any me of the day/night are on for a split second when I drag the motivation panel down. These are all set to "OFF" in settings...

Google password manager asks if it should save PWs although it SHOULD be deactivated?

Hey folks,
so although I deactivated the f***** password manager, it still keeps asking me for EVERY password in EVERY app if I wanted to save it. I can't seem to get rid of this behaviour.
What I tried up to now:
deactivated the PWM via my google account settings on my phone
reactivated and deactivated it again to see if it was just some setting that had gotten stuck
turned the phone off and on again
started chrome -> settings -> password, although I assume this is an app-internal value
opened my phone's account on my pc, altered the value here (I could see both on the PC when I turned the PWM on/off on the phone and vice versa, so the value change works, but google chooses to ignore it)
Is there anything I have overlooked? Is there any additional value that needs changing? Other google services, for example syncing my contacts (at least those that my old phone didn't eff up) worked without any problems.
As another approach to get rid of this sh***y behaviour: is google's password manager a standalone app, can I just uninstall it via ADB?
Dunno if anything of this is important: Phone is a Sony Xperia 10 II, unrooted, three days old.
In case I forgot any useful information, please ask.
Welcome to XDA! Seems like you did everything to turn off the Google account PWM option. It's not a separate Play Store app.
Only thing I can think of is there's a another Play store 3rd party PWM app installed like LastPass or Sony bloatware app, etc...
Thanks mate!
Nope, there is no other password manager installed and I tried my very best to get rid of all the bloatware I could find and thought to be safe to uninstall. Also, the password saving question bears the Google-"G", so it shouldn't be any 3rd party program.
Is there anything else I can do except being frustrated and annoyed? =/

Question GW5 Unable to add weather location "Getting your location"

Hi
recently picked up my GW5 (Bluetooth) after my GW2 died on me, Everything setup fine other than i appear to be unable to add a weather location?
Never had this issue before on my previous watch.
To confirm location service is enabled, and Weather has location set to Always Allow.
I have tried to open the Weather app within the Samsung Wearable app, selecting apps, going to weather and pressing App Settings. However the app crashes and returns to the previous screen.
All apps are updated, i have reset my watch a couple of times and still does the same, the only thing i have not done is reset / factory restore my phone, Something i really do not want to do.
Anyone else had such an issue?
Google Maps works fine on the watch, so its not go an issue with knowing my location / gps
Okay i feel abit of a numpty here, After countless methods it only just occured to me i debloated / disabled unused packages on my samsung phone.
Yes Weather was on of thoes APK's i disabled.
Anyone with a simlar issue, will need to ensure they have the Samsung Weather App installed on there Device and Enabled.
