So I was looking for a solid video recording app and stumbled across this, if you want a manual video app you will be more than happy as the controls are amazing. To achieve these surprising video setups simply press the settings toggle and select Resolution, bump it all the way up. Make sure the FPS and the playback FPS is at 30 and do not change any of the Exposure/ISO options. Now that is done I have found that in low light conditions the FPS may go down just a bit, around 2FPS, which is not that much off a difference. I have tried different combinations but it seems that 42FPS is the limit for all resolutions which is very sad as we still do not have [email protected] in 2018 . But overall this is amazing, the front camera shocked me the most, it not only unlocked a super high resolution it also comes with a very nice FPS. Some bad things are that the zoom is not very good on the viewfinder at all (but is alright in the actual video) compared to other video camera apps and it does cost alot of money for an app (around $13 USD), but the features it brings make it more than worth it .
I am using Cosmic OS 3.1 Oreo 8.1 unofficial with official Gapps and I haven't tried this on any other ROM.

That app is way too pricey for what the end user gets. Also, I am unsure that our phone supports more than 30 frames per second video recording. Do not waste your hard earned money

Well, it is not for everyone. I took the plunge and I have checked my videos metadata and gone through frame by frame to see if their is just duplicates and to my surprise it is true 42FPS with the super high resolution. My friend has a LG V10 and the customization on this camera app is very comparable to his, which is very good. The quality of what this app produces is mind-blowing, it makes any low light shot look super. I know what you mean, this price is way too high for any app, so I would only recommend this app to proper enthusiasts. The typical user wouldn't really care or notice the bumped up pixels and FPS.

I saw 60 fps 1080p in latest Arnova's GCam beta. Did you check it out?

I might have the wrong version ( V7 beta 1) but this is fake 60FPS all it is is 30FPS video sped up to become 60FPS, its been like this for a long time .

Even of you toggle that option on. Camera records at 1080p 24fps.for some reason...1080p30fps is the limit...Dont really know why and the EIS video recording sucks..Big time...

Terrible gui and there is nothing special with this app. I personally like stock Lineage 15.1 camera or one of Google Camera mods. OpenCamera is also not bad (gui is not beautiful, but easy to use).

How did you get 42FPS in video recording..i only get 30FPS or below in 1080p/4k mode.. and max 120FPS in 720p. that too in slow mo..couldnt get 60/50/42 fps in any video quality option....

Bump up the fps in 4K all the way up to 30fps and make sure the playback speed it the same, record your video with auto exposure, then you can check what real fps output (should be around 45fps in good light) is using this:

It should work in Oreo ROMs, but I dont know if it will work on Nougat.

Well so far this Google HDR algorithm is so good, literally no other photo app can compare it it. So what I recommend is BSG's new Gcam, it provides so much customization to get the perfect picture, especially with the new auto shutter speed version - as the Le Max 2 has a limited measly shutter speed of half a second, this is merges photos with the limited shutter speed giving out a much nicer image. Although front camera portraits and HDR have that annoying Green filter, but i mostly use my main camera only so for me this is what I use the most.

I find that while Serjo87 Gcam's are very good Toylan009 Gcam's are more stable and have no green tint aswell.

Nope. It's worth it for the incredibly smooth zoom alone.

Too much to set the bitrate speed. Therefore the video takes up a lot of space.

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Xiaomi Mi 9 come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).

Yeah a bit of noise on that one. Just default settings/auto, with HDR I think on that one. Gcam port should really unlock the potential of this hardware.
I am really liking the cam so far though...

Curious to see it, as the people on the bench (lower left) look soft on the focus ....

I made a comparison between Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 9.

I'll gradually add more photos.
See the watermark to differentiate the phones.
Images without watermark were captured with the Google Pixel Port (in the dark with Nightsight)
Images were captured via point and shoot, both "AI" Features are enabled. Google Pixel with HDR+

Mate 20 superior in dark but that's no surprise. Solid cam on Mi9 nevertheless.

Im not very satisfied with the camera quality. It seems like that the mi9 is doing worse compared to what I was used from my Galaxy S7 or even with my Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s. Here a few pictures from yesterday. At some point the software seems to do to much magic and kills the quality. Plus, the software seems to be unstable and the camera crashed two times while taking pictures and was not able to connect again to the camera -> reboot / kill camera app and start it again.
All done with HDR Auto and AI on.

HDR was set to "Auto" and AI was "On". No (other) filtering was used and yes, this oil painting wheen zooming in is insane. I really hope that this is just a bug and Xiomi will fix it soon, since even the Mi Mix 2s have not had that bad image quality.

Try turning AI off - i hear that messes up the end result worse then making it better
But agree - shouldn't need to turn off a feature that other manufactures dont have issues with ...

could someone install gcam and take some images on the mi9 with that?

Is there any possibility to shoot RAW (DNG) photos from stock camera apk? Can anybody post RAW photo from every MI9 sensor? (especialy from 48mp)

why mi9 uses very high iso in low light?
for example when other phones settings is about 1/17sec and iso 2000, mi9 setting is about 1/14 and iso +7000 !
even redmi note 7 iso is much lower.

Interesting I thought that Mi9 is increasing iso to achive lower exposure time beacuse of lack of OIS, but dunno why other phones has the same time and lower iso while having the same aperture (about f/1.7) maybe Mi9's f/1.75 is fake?
Did you compare same light conditions photos?
PS Could someone post RAW from Mi9?

Video quality

Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the Xiaomi Mi 9 come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.

Coming from a Mi Mix 2S I can not stress enough how great the Video quality is on this Phone. Smooth 60FPS in a 4K Video and very fast and crisp autofocus makes this camera a joy.

The Mi 9 does suffer from judder in 4K 30fps which are a result of missed frames.
This has also been confirmed on dxomark review
Hopefully this can be fixed in a software update

For some reason the videos look worse on YouTube then on my 4K Samsung TV. This may due to the way YouTube processes those dropped frames, during its conversion process.
This needs to be fixed as its a big disappointment.
The Snapdragon 855 has more than enough power to handle 4K at 30fps with AI stabilisation but the Mi 9 lack of OIS could be the reason why it struggles during panning

The video is EXTREMELY SHAKY - EIS seems nonexistant.
- Audio is 14/20 (concert recording ok, quieter scenes a bit less nice)
EDIT:
- This is due to limitations on 4K60
- EIS is good on 4K30 - but then there are dropped frames.

I dislike the EIS implementation of Xiaomi (so called stabilization) on the Mi 9. It crops the image and you loose sharpness over stabilization. If you turn it off you also have a wider view.
My other phone (Mi 9 SE) the EIS is less agressive, so the crop is less perhaps due to the lesser cpu. The actual image looks better because it is sharper, detailed and has a wider view. The problem is that EIS causes judder when panning because the software is not optimized and more judder with lesser cpu. I actually prefer that they implemented the EIS on the Mi 9 with less cropping.
Strange is that I disable stabilization on both Mi 9 and Mi 9 SE but the video is still sharper and more detailed on the Mi 9 SE.

To be noted that now Gcam supports EIS in 4k 30 fps and 60 fps with much less cropping.

The stabilization is not as slider smooth as MIUI cam, though. I'd still prefer to disable EIS and have my gimbal for serious video recording.

Its excellent actually thanks to the new GCAM mod by urnyx05. It supports 100Mbits 4K 60fps videos with working video stabilization!! Working video stabilization on 4k 60fps is really uncommon. Non of the flagships have it nor even iPhones support it.

Actually, many of today's flagship can stabilize [email protected] including but not limited to iPhone 11 series, Samsung S20 series, even OPPO Find X2 Pro can do it as well. Xiaomi isn't left behind as Mi 10 series can do it, unfortunately as typical Xiaomi, they don't backport many features to older devices.

Hi, can you please point out which version of the GCam you're talking about? I've been looking for ways to get at least 1080p 60fps with EIS on my Mi9 but no luck so far..

!!! How to enable HDR 10 recording??!

Snapdragon 845-855 have supported hdr recording, so I wonder if this feature can at least be enabled on phones with very capable hardware..

Hdr is enabled by default in the camera app. It can be turned off however.

No. He meand HDR10 for videos... not pictures with HDR

Hdr10 is not very relevant right now. Future proof in a nutshell. The one plus already records in HDR, though I'm not sure which one in particular. The oneplus 7 pro is only officially certified to VIEW hdr10 content. I saw nothing about the phone being capable of producing it.

I haven't figure out to activate the HDR to watch videos
Does anybody knows how to do it?

@jetfire245 I'm not sure what you're talking about with future-proof. Maybe you're thinking of HDR10+ which only Samsung, and some international Phillips, TVs have? HDR10 has been around for at least 5 years.

Since no one has started this thread. Let me kick it off.
Please share your videos you shot through Cinema Pro app.
I'm impressed with video quality of these camera(s). I was planning to get Sony a6400 for shooting cinematic travel videos. But I'm going to give this phone a try before investing. This phone won't hold a candle to top end mirrorless cameras but for a rookie, someone like me, this phone is beyond impressive. I'd say it's a great device for people who like cinematography or want to learn it.
I've shot a couple of 4k videos. Handheld and colour graded with LUTs in post processing. I prefer mobile workstation. That's why I edit all my videos on my iPad pro with LumaFusion app.

This one was shot on gimbal but stabilization was turned off in Cinema Pro app which I didn't notice while recording. That's why footage is still laggy and stuttery. This one is not colour graded. Colour and looks are straight from CinemaPro app.
Also, phone was on initial firmware. Fresh out of the box.

Basically Cinema Pro app let's you shoot videos in manual mode. Giving you more control over lenses. You can play with shutter shutte and ISO till your scene is properly exposed and set those values. It also let's you select white balance to suit your indoor or outdoor environment.
Manual focus is very useful when you want to dramatically reveal something by going out of focus to sharp focus.
I tend to shoot all my videos in 4k at 29.98fps which I think works best for me. Also, I go with "Venice CS" look. I found that to be flatter of all looks and easier to colour grade in post processing.
You can find stabilization option when you're selecting lens(it's in tip right hand corner as seen in the attached image)

My trouble was you can only set iso and shutter speed manually, and before the record. That basically means you have to do different take when lights change. Not like the standard camera phone. So it's a completely whole different way of recording things.
Anyway, I did some record at a free live concert yesterday.
It was the first time and I found out that I have to be extremely careful where I put my hands on the phone to not block the microphones. Maybe putting off the cover from the phone would be even better.
Here is the video, with a lot of sound issue due to my hand on the microphones. But image is good, considering the conditions, 4K and HDR, and well stabilized in the end, it's handheld.
You even have the example of what it does on the other phones, sometimes they can't keep up with the stroboscopic lights.

I purposely choose to share this one because of the sound problem, well, that is not a problem, but a warning, be careful with the way you keep your phone in hand. I don't have this sound fluctuation on every video I've made.
