I just upgraded to EMUI 8.0/Oreo but my previous twrp.img isn't working anymore. Is there an updated one?
The latest version available gives this error:
Hi SirDarknight,

Hi,
Could you please share the TWRP for Honor 8 Oreo? Thanks.
I need too. I tried twrp frd 3.2 emui8 from multi-tool 8(no access to /data and /system) , twrp blk 0.7( no access to /data and warning ./hisee_fs (invalid argument) but access to /system) and twrp p10_lite_0.4 (no access to /data and /system), still I can't access to /data and /system (TWRP shows "mount decrypt data enter password" I tried lock screen PIN, without PIN, no result).
When I did wipe(format data) from twrp blk recovery get access to data but honor stuck on start screen. Only reflash and wipe from original recovery helps and honor works, but still I can't access to /data and /system when I flash twrp.
Firmware FRD-L09C10B521 (8.0.0.521).
@MirtaX Hello, there is an another TWRP EMUI 8.0 version in Huawei Multi-Tool v8.
So check those 3 TWRP version below:
1) Official latest TWRP version: twrp-3.2.2-0-frd.img
2) Previous version (found in "Huawei Multi-Tool by Team MT" v8): FRD_TWRP_3.2.0_EMUI8.img
3) Modded TWRP version (found in "Huawei Multi-Tool by Team MT" v8): FRD_TWRP_S_mak_KV_v2_EMUI8.img
@Micdu70 Thank you for your reply, I tried those twrp:
1) It's for EMUI 5, so it doesn't work (error in fastboot).
2, 3) I don't see different, still the same result :/

This recovery works. Tested on my FRD-AL00.
Before all, download update_data_full_public.zip and update_full_XXX-XXX_XXX_XXX.zip in FullOTA firmware for your model.
Then, you should do something in the recovery:
1. Format data
2. Install update_data_full_public.zip
3. Install update_full_XXX-XXX_XXX_XXX.zip
4. Advanced -> Fix DataEncryption
5. [Optional] Install Magisk
6. Reboot

After following this I got stuck in a bootloop, but I'm a noob when it comes to Oreo, TWRP and Magisk (last phone i modified was a Marshmallow Lenovo lol). Unchecking the box to mount /system read only and rebooting the recovery after every step solved the issue for me. Thank you very much! Noob question - are OTAs somehow flashable via TWRP? Just preparing for the future with having unlocked phone.

Short answer: NO.
Long answer: download hurupdater (search it on XDA), all three files provided by firmware finder and flash on TWRP. More info on hurupdater thread.
Has anyone found a fully working version of twrp? I'm on build 8.0.0.560 and I can't flash SuperSu from the recoveries posted in this thread.

Thanks for helping! This recovery gave me the least errors. But I still wasn't able to root my phone, I'm mainly getting mounting issues. I get errors like failed to mount /hisee. Also every recovery that I've tried prompts me with a password when I first boot into twrp.

Hello,
Based on instructions below I managed to install Magisk via patched_boot.img onto Mate9 Oreo 8.0.0.363(C432). I downloaded few modules like Xposed etc, after restarting I got a bootloop. When I back install ramdisk.img phoneboots but magisk is not installed. Any help is appreciated.
no need to extract ramdisk no more....the new one will install with twrp from sd card....starting 15v and also has to have bootloader unlock and be on stock oreo....

It cannot be installed any other way. Says no boot image.
Are you on stock android... I did root my mate 9...you need the special twrp for mate 9..its in the forum for magisk... Then just boot into twrp, do normal wipe, then install magisk, start with 15.4 version... Then it should update to 16..
Hi,
I've found an simpler method to root my Oreo Mate 9, which does not involve extracting the ramdisk.img of your rom.
This method comes for @ante0 in this post.
In my case (Mate9 with stock rom L29C432B366), this is what I did:
1) Start from an unrooted stock Oreo rom
2) Unlock bootloader
Note: Unlocking the bootloader will completely erase your phone, so backup before hand!
3) Download and flash (via fastboot) TWRP recovery TWRP-3.2.1-Oreo_FBE_Mate9.img
This recovery can be downloaded from the link in here
Note: to flash the recovery in Fastboot mode you have to type from the command line on the PC :
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk TWRP-3.2.1-Oreo_FBE_Mate9.img
4) Reboot in recovery and mount the System and Vendor partitions
Note: if you skip this step, your phone will NOT reboot after step (5) :crying: (I know, I have tested this )
5) In recovery, flash the latest Magisk. I Have used the latest beta, Magisk 16.4 which can be downloaded from here.
6) Reboot system, and you're good to go, rooted and passing safetynet
What I like about this method is (1) no need to extract a ramdisk.img specific to the rom you are rooting , and (2) I'm still decrypted in recovery
Note: Not tested with other rom versions than L29C432B366
how magisk works in mate9 C432 B369 ??
i try 16.0 cust and my mate9 soft brick
I need help guys.
I tried installing xposed from magisk app. After reboot, am stuck on bootloop after several retries. Was forced to flash new firmware using HWOTA8.Now,i have tried getting magisk to work but result to boot loop after boot is patched and flashed via fastbokt.Have also tried flashing through twrp by mounting system, vendor but still stuck on Huawei logo and reboot . Have tried flashing supersu but that does get root to work.
Please help because most of the app I use need root access and don't want to perform fresh installation.
Thanks.
Attention ! ONLY for devices delivered with OREO 8.0.xxx. At 8.1.xxx there are problems!
This TWRP has been made for the P10.
On my Mediapad M5 10.8" LTE it works!
It can be safely used IF
- you have a FULL update of your build on the PC
- from the Update.zip the Update.app have unzipped
- with the HuaweiExtractor from the Upate.app
- - ramdisk.img
- - recovery_ramdis.img
- - system.img
extracted. The Extractor automatically makes a *.img.header for each *.img. These 6 files copy in yours
ADB-Folder. IF ANYTHING SHOULD WORK - flash this 3 img
- fastboot flash ramdisk ramdisk.img
- fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdis.img
- fastboot flash system system.img
AND the pad is reset to stock-rom again.
If you can handle it, you need a TWRP and want to test it
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-emui-8-0-4-04-2018-t3773449
download
- fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp.img
If this works on a Mediapad M5 8 " ? I can not test it because of the lack of a device!
Who has no idea as a beginner: PLEASE LET IT BE !!!
Turning € 400 into a paperweight is NOT fun!
Absolutely important: look at the screen before flashing - "Bootloader: unlocked" & "FRP: unlock" !!!
With stock-rom OTA updates can still be received BUT only be installed with stock-recovery !!!
If the update is on the pad "Update now?" NO later !
- fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdis.img
Now install the update
Should the update "*****ing" helps https://forum.xda-developers.com/ho.../recovery-bkl-nocheck-recovery-flash-t3778085
This is flashed instead of stock recovery.
When everything is done, you can install TWRP afterwards.
This did not work for me on an SHT-AL09 that I had already bricked (soft bricked as I can flash via fastboot). The TWRP screen came up at boot, but the menu never loaded. I couldn't say for sure that it wouldn't work on a stock SHT-AL09.
I can confirm this version of TWRP is working on my Mediapad M5 8.4 SHT-W09. Thanks for trying, it out. I wasn't brave enough to be the first.
i am write what i do with my pad. My Pad : Huawei Mediapad M5 - CMR-AL09 8.0.0.151(C432).
other type (example : SHT-AL09, SHT-W09 ....) i not have !
if this writing other user help - that's ok

@darren1 thanks, I've found it already ... but I need to dig in a bit deeper to get a twrp environment set up.
@darren1 I can confirm that the twrp for the P10 is working (partly) on the SHT-W09 ... It boots, it decrypts /data and you can access via adb
I didn't try to install anything but I tried to do a backup ... unfortunately neither "adb backup --twrp" nor backup to the sdcard is working for me

I was able to make a complete backup to the sdcard on my CMR-W09 and then restore from it. I did remove pin & fingerprint screenlock prior to booting into twrp. Installing zip files works.
@magnumlove that's strange .. I didn't remove the pattern for unlocking, but the backup went well for /data the error occured when backing up /system
Probably I should try it again with a different sdcard.
(btw. adb backup --twrp failed due to /system/bin/bu missing)

I am just about to flash v19 of Phh-Treble gsi. I will let you know how I get on.
@rcstar6696 I like the idea to have a full backup to be able later to restore to a certain stage. This is the main reason for me to have twrp.
Btw. I found another issue with the TWRP from P10: OTG is not working. I wanted to use a pen drive to test the backup but it's not even mounting the drive.

The recovery works on the stock ROM SHT-L09 .125(C00). At least for me it doesn't work with either of phh's latest(v19) GSI images; just stays on twrp logo screen. I am unable to get a logcat as that returns an error but can get a shell.

Thank you. Yes this was the reason why! I can boot in twrp again.
There are different howto's out there. What is the right order to install following packages - do I have to reboot after each package?
Twrp
Lineage rom
Openapps Pico
Su
I did not fully understand the problem but i can see one thing: oos 5.1.5 as a base firmware for lineage is not correct because oreo firmware is not supported, so in order
if you want only TWRP
Update to the latest firmware (oos 10)
follow this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/guide-installing-bluspark-twrp-magisk-t3997765
If you want lineage 16/17
Update to the latest open beta pie (28)
reboot to fastboot
download TWRP img and zip (9.101)
open windows prompt and type "fastboot boot twrp.img" (make sure to insert the correct name file instead of twrp.img and check if is .img and not the .zip)
device will automatic reboots in TWRP
now from here flash the TWRP .zip file and reboot to recovery to make sure it's there
now you can update recovery to 9.107 if you want (and it's highly reccomended) by flashing the proper 9.107 .zip
don't forget to use blue_spark TWRP
Now everytime you flash a rom you need to flash TWRP after that otherwise it will not stay there
hope it's all clear and that i've not forgot anything

Follow These methods (100% worked)
1. Boot to fastboot mode (power +vol down)
2. Extract ADB.rar to Drive C (Put the recovery and vbmeta files in ADB Folder) vbmeta link Below
3. Connect Phone To PC with USB Cable
4. from Start run CMD and type cd:\adb (pres enter) And type the following Commands :
fastboot devices
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
fastboot flash recovery Twrp-3.4.2B_toco_by.alex.msk1407.img (you can rename it to twrp.img) -LINK BELOW (Many Thanks To Alex msk)
fastboot reboot recovery
5. in twrp: wipe-> format data -> Type yes and tap enter (blue key)
6. Copy xiaomi.eu rom and magisk.zip to phone
8. in twrp: install rom and magisk.zip
9. in twrp: Boot to recovery (the phone is restarting to twrp again)
10. in twrp: reboot system
12. Enjoy

For installing updates, do we need to follow the dirty flash process via TWRP? I tried via the updater but the process simply restarts mobile and nothing happens.
New version of Xiaomi.eu ROM is out.
Question is how to updtae without losing data?

Yes, cant decrypt -> probably can't update.
Even if you do use OTG to read the .zip...
Will it overwrite to encrypted partitions? Won't that break the system?
Or
Will it boot fine - but will the updated ROM be able to read the probably still encrypted user data?

I have a Redmi note 8 with xiaomi.eu but I think I can help you. In order to update you flash the new zip. It just overwrites the system partition not the data. And you are still able to decrypt them. There is no problem I tried it. You will have to reflash magisk although. But in case anything goes wrong just format data and you will be fine.

is this twrp fully working? or does it have the same problems as mauronofrio's Twrp 3.3.1.0?

Super weird... it didnt work for me... flashing was successful
but it keeps rebooting to fastboot mode.
While doing format data, i did receive an error message "unable to find /metadata" is that normal?
EDIT: So what happen is, I did all over again with slightly different steps
1) i reflashed official firmware to revive my phone
2) Once I'm able to boot on official ROM, I flash TWRP
3) Format Data + restart TWRP
4) Copied ROM and flash Xiaomi EU rom
5) Restart to system immediately after flashing ROM. Managed to boot Xiaomi EU rom.
6) Reboot to recovery and flash magisk
7) Restart to system, set up, and done.

I think he did it with the miflash tool. I had to do it so because I stucked in Fastboot mode.
I also had a problem with metadata. I have recovery aleks.msk, can enter fastboot but nothing else. Miflash does not work, uploading the firmware via recovery does not get up.
In fastboot mode copy latest xiaomi.eu zip (not the fastboot, the regular one)to the phone and flash it in twrp - reboot to system
Can anyone please post a link to Xiomi EU ROM. Can't find it. Thanks

Hello,
what I did, I followed the steps here https://oneplus.gadgethacks.com/how-to/install-twrp-recovery-your-oneplus-7-pro-0199340/ I unlocked the bootloader, then installed twrp. The problem here was that drive could not be mounted so internal storage was zero. I had to connect a usb stick to the phone in order to get twrp installed. Then I followed instructions from the same site to install magisk. I got some error messages while installing and at the end the phone was supposed to boot to android but it didnt. Now the only thing that happens is that the phone boots to fastboot. I have tried
Code:
fastboot boot twrp.img
but I get errors again
HTML:
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 0.686s]
booting...
FAILED (remote: Failed to load/authenticate boot image: Load Error)
finished. total time: 0.723s
Any ideas on how I should proceed ?

See if you can use this tool

Link that you followed is for 7pro, your post is in Op7 forum, which device you have?

unfortunately I cant go to step 2... This is the third time I try. I cannot flash twrp and magisk
inside twrp, the SDCARD was empty, there was no folder downloads so I had to connect a usb stick. I installed twrp and I got some erros about partitions. Then I installed magisk, errors again. And now it boots to twrp
What am I doing wrong? I follow all the steps as described in the tutorials... Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When I try to WIPE from inside twrp i get more error messages
updating partition details
failed to mount /system_root - invalid argument
failed to mount /vendor - invalid argument
failed to mount storage
failed to mount /data - invalid argument
etc
unable to mount storage

Can you get into Fastboot mdoe and do this : "fastboot format system"?
I used the Tool All In One and I am at the beginning again (oneplus 7t pro booted to android) with unlocked bootloader. Any ideas on how I should proceed now? Maybe I am using wrong twrp and / or magisk versions?
