"Type password to decrypt storage" Honor 8 - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Hi.
Last year I tried to root my Honor 8... i failed. I've managed to unlock it but i did not root it (idk why, i just followed a tutorial but nothing happens as it should).
My phone was JUST unlocked. Not rooted. I just had this beautiful message when I boot it "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted. Visit blablabla......."
So I wanted to recover it... but i couldn't, using android or the huawei recovery thing.
So I decided to follow some tutorials (big mistake, i know nothing about this world). I tried to flash the stock rom...
I downloaded "Huawei Multi Tool by MT" and I "flashed stock eRecovery images from an online database" (choosing a randon version)
It worked but now, I have this message "Type password to decrypt storage" every time I boot my phone. I already tried to take out my SD card, to reset factory from the recovery (did it many times)... nothing works.
I can try every password, it says that "the password is correct but data is corrupt so you have to reset" ......................
im afraid of losing my phone right now
I had FRD-L09C432B394
Android Nougat
EMUI 5.1
If you could please help me or send me a link, because i tried several tutorials but ... none correspond to my situation, my version etc.
Thanks !!

Best thing I can think of to do off the top of my head is flash twrp and flash magisk. Then install titanium backup to backup all your apps. It is going to require you to read and learn a bit, but not doing so is what put you in this spot to begin with.

Ok but... How? I think I can't access to bootloader. I can only access to this HUAWEI recovery thing if i press power for a long a time, and if i don't, it asks the password..
Something to do with my pc with USB connected?
btw i dont need to "backup my apps"... i dont mind if i lose all my data. i want it.

Yes, holding down Volume Down while your device is connected to PC will boot it to Fastboot mode. Flash TWRP (search this forum for the link) and the inatall the same FRD-L09C432B394 firmware files (update.zip and the rest) through TWRP. Once done, reboot your device to recovery (this time it will boot to stock recovery) and perform a full factory reset.

I just had the same issue, I rebooted in recovery mode by pressing "volume up" and the built in recovery told me the partition was corrupted and asked if I wanted to format it

Nexus 5 (stock) stuck on Google logo screen

Hallo everyone,
since yesterday my Nexus 5 (with Android 6.0.1 stock without any root) doen't won't start anymore, he just stay freezed on the Google Logo screen.
I have been trying to go on the standard recovery mode and wipe the chace partiton, but I get the error message "E: failed to mount /cache (Invalid argument)".
Before trying a wipe data/factory reset, I would save the files from my Nexus in my computer. Sadly when I connect the Phone to the PC (Win7) the device doen't appear in the x: devices list, tought I can hear the sound of new connected device and see it on the Windows Device Manager (under Android Device->Android Bootloader Interface).
How I could save my files now? and then if I succed, should I simply do the wipe data/factory reset? or there's an alternative?

If I were you I'd take the easy way. Use Wugfreshes toolkit to back up. It will talk you though installing drivers etc and backup your data.
Sadly Wugfreshes toolkit doen't work, here's what I have done:
Started the Device with Power Button and Vol- together
then as It shows the recovery interface I connect the usb cable to my computer
the device has been detected as "Android Device->Android Bootloader Interface" in Device Manager.
I open the Wugfreshes toolkit an I select my device name and android version, the I try to create a backup.
When I do this the device reset itself and goes back to the Google Logo, that as usual is stuck. After a few minutes the toolkit gives an error message.
I'm really frustrated, I hope that someone could help me.
EDIT:
I have been trying to select on the main Rootkit page the option "Current Statuts: Soft-bricked/Bootloop", but the same problem appears again.
I have lost my patience and I tryed to full wipe...and even this doens't work!
After the reboot comes again the Bootloop.
EDIT:
I have been trying the guide to unlock the bootloader (in order to flash the a stock image), but I'm stuck again with this damn bootloop, here the post about it.
When you unlock the bootloader using fastboot commands, does the bootloader relock when you reboot into fastboot?
If the bootloader remains unlocked after rebooting into fastboot, flash the userdata.img that from a stock ROM that matches the currently installed ROM, immediately boot into recovery after flashing, and perform a factory wipe.
Here's my answer in the other thread.
We have ascertained with audit, that my Nexus 5 got problems with the Memory Chip, seems that the only solution now is contact the reseller and change the motherboard/whole phone.

Honor 8 Can't Download Firmware, Can't Flash, Bricked? [Solved]

Hi, after trying unlock my bootloader, I couldn't get into recovery mode without "Your phone cannot be trusted" getting stuck on my screen.
I re-locked the boot loader but now when I go into recovery it says "Data Partition is corrupted please format" then it asks me to connect to a wifi network which then just shows errors everytime the password comes up.
I tried to turn on USB Debugging to ADB sideload a firmware, but I can't because the phone has been resetted; if I try to enter a wifi password the keyboard doesnt show it's just the google voice (which doesn't work) with no options. If i skip the wifi option it just goes on the google login and gets stuck on "Checking Info".
Any solutions to the problem please?
EDIT: I just re-unlocked the bootloader and now its permanently stuck on "Your device cannot be trusted, booting now" regardless of what buttons I press during startup
EDIT 2: I fixed it, it was long and complicated but I got it to work, here's how.
1. When flashing TWRP, I realized I was flashing the TWRP for EMUI 4, so I flashed TWRP for EMUI 5. (Make sure Bootloader is unlocked)
First have all the adb/fastboot drivers, for windows shift + right click the folder and click "Open Command here"
Make sure the twrp img file is in the same folder as the adb folder.
On the honor 8 phone, if it is stuck like mine, turn the phone off and then hold Volume Down + Power Button until the download mode is on the screen
Type "fastboot flash recovery (twrpfilename).img"
Once it's done, turn it off and then hold power button + volume up AND volume down at once till TWRP comes on
(Continuously hold it, if the "Your Device cannot be trusted" screen comes on release)
2. (Make sure internal storage and data are backed up externally for this)
Reset system, data, cache/dalvik, and internal storage
3. Download Update.zip and the second .zip from a website on google, search Honor 8 Manual Nougat and click the link from smartstocknews (I can't post links) but do not follow the steps from that website, and also download GAPPS from open GAPPS. Make sure ARM64 is selected and not ARM as well as 7.0
4. After wiping, mount the Honor 8 by connecting it via USB to a computer, and press "Mount" on TWRP
Upload the both update.zip and update_data_full_hw_eu.zip and GAPPS ARM64 7.0 to internal or external storage
5. Exit mount and go to install, install the zips in this specific order and do not reboot in between
A) Update.zip
B) Update_data_full_hw_eu.zip
C) GAPPS.zip
6. Reboot after GAPPS is done (it might show already installed, if that's the case then it's alright, reboot anyways)
Download the 70mb package for firmware downgrade and the latest marshmallow firmware from your regional huawei's website.
Extract the small package and put the .app file in a folder called dload on the SD card and insert it in your phone.
Boot by holding volume + volume - and pressing power, holding all 3 buttons until the phone vibrates.
The package will flash and afterwards you repeat the process, this time using an .app file from the full marshmallow firmware.
The 70mb package installs not matter how messed up your file system is, and makes your phone ready for the MM firmware. This process brings any brick back to life. Good luck.
I too was trying to root my FRD-L04 and apparently used the wrong TWRP because now I get...
Code:
Unable to open ' ' to wipe crypto key
Unable to wipe Data
Unable to format to remove encryption
Failed to mount /data (invalid argument)
and I cant get the keyboard loaded so I can log into my wifi when I do a factory reset. I really have no idea how best to attack this...my phone is bricked I can get into TWRP 3.0.2.0 recovery, sideload, and fastboot (i think). I am currently downloading the stock ROM for my device and will try to sideload it.
I feel I need to fix the data issues thought before trying to load the ROM as I dont think my data partition is working at all now. Does anyone have any suggestions or a step-by-step guide on how to fix my bricked phone?
I've tried all sort of things today but no matter what, I cant get a keyboard working so I guess that means I'm screwed....
EDIT - my phone doesnt have a insertable SD card so I cant fix things the way the above poster suggests.

If you have nougat just flash the correct recovery from the twrp you already have. https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/development/twrp-t3566563

This is truly one of the worse phones I have ever had when it comes to root and such. My frustration over what, for a unbranded unlocked phone that *should* probably SHIP with root, this phone has and is putting me through is super high.
That being said...so I flashed the new 3.1.0.0 recovery. Before doing that, I had just tried to Unbrick the phone with flashing B162 image with 3.0.3.0...so now the phone is totally frozen in the "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted..." screen. Nothing I seem to do can get it out of this mode.
I want to install the rooted b378 boot.img file I just downloaded, but am unable to find the button commands to get the bootloader loaded. Does anyone have any suggestions in somehow trying to save the day with this damned phone?
much thanks in advance.
EDIT: So I got the phone in bootloader mode by pressing vol up/vol down/power and inserting the usb cable...i flashed the rooted boot.img and twrp 3.1.0.1 to both recovery and recovery2 and now i can get into recovery. I feel like I may actually have a chance now to fix this damn thing...
So can anyone point me in a direction where, from this point with the new recovery loaded and the modded boot image installed, where i can get this phone working?? ill use ANY ROM it dont really matter at this point...
Don't worry. It's really easy, once you know what to do, just realy easy to screw up if you don't. If your phone is a mess just roll back to android 6 using the procedure i described above. Once your phone works, update to nougat and install twrp and root following this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/development/twrp-t3566563

I pretty much have the same issue. No keyboard showing, just the stupid voice thing, and the Bootloader is Relocked. How did you get it fully unlocked. I can't get it. I guess let me get that resolved first (the bootloader) and I can try to go from there. Please help me.
UPDATE: Never mind I fixed it. I'm not really for sure how either but I think it mainly was just persistence.
Didn't work
Hello, so earlier today I tried to install RROS newest version in hope to get magisk/unrooting my phone because I'm addicted to snapchat and I rooted my phone with SuperSU earlier but didn't know u can't login to snapchat after that. It failed idk why, (I followed instructions very clearly and searched info from internet before doing that) causing me to brick my phone so when I booted it, it only showed black screen. After couple hours not finding way to get into twrp with my circumstances I managed to flash boot, recovery and system images, I tried to reboot and see what happens, (just in case, I kinda knew I didn't had ROM installed at the time, I also was hoping RROS to boot) nothing happened expect my phone got stuck in boot screen for booting EMUI, which was not installed obviously. Again after couple hours I stumbled to your post and managed to finally get myself into TWRP, I followed again ur instructions and everything was going fine, no erros, not anything. When Gapps was finished installing, I rebooted and again it just got stuck into booting screen. I did press and hold Power button, vol+, vol- and got myself into some kind of ROM installing screen, (hard to explain I don't exactly know what is name of it) and no it wasn't Huawei erecovery screen (Power button & Vol+ and no it didn't work me either saying that "getting package info failed") so in that ROM installing screen it just was stuck at 5% installing, and now I don't know what to do. My phone got locked again and I'm stuck at booting screen.
Note:
I don't have SD Card, should I get one and install stock rom?
Sorry for being kinda unclear but I'm tired it was 7 hours ago I got my phone bricked and have surfed on the web finding for answers ever since.
Also as you might notice, yes, I'm new to modding devices etc but still I'm not totally noob. Please help ASAP.
[SOLVED] So after hour of watching netflix as depressed teen I tried to reboot my phone again just in case, got stuck in booting screen. Then I held Power Button + Vol+ and got myself into EMUI stock recovery mode, I chose wipe cache partition and wipe data/factory reset, after that I rebooted my phone, it was stuck in booting screen for like 2 minutes but then it actually finished booting and now my phone is again functioning and god bless locked & unrooted.

Hello, sorry for my english, im from Argentina. You see, my grandad died a half a month ago (RIP Enrique), and a week ago, my mom offered me his J7. I accepted it, but it has a password set on. I proceeded to get his SD Card out and backup all his files, such as photos and that stuff. But from there, i dont know how to acces directly the phone. I actually own a Moto G4 Plus, with unlocked bootloader, and a custom ROM . From my experience, i suspect that you can flash a stock ROM whithout an unlocked bootloader, while it is the correcta one and it isnt modified. But, before doing anything I wanted just to check if it would be all right. Alzó, if i can unlocked the phone without erasing everything would be amazing. Thanks for your help

Ohhh, thanks, ill try and tell you how it went, thank you
I've never been in a situation like this but. Can you acces to the stock recovery? There is a recovery where you can wipe everything, but I'm not sure if Samsung security has to do with it, maybe it won't let you wipe your phone because it has password? Idk, but it worth a try at least.
You acces to the recovery turning off the phone, then pressing "VOL UP + HOME + LOCK SCREEN" keys.
Just choose wipe data/factory reset/cache and restart. That'll do it.
*When you're inside the recovery menu, you can "move" through itwith the vol up and down buttons. Then to "select" an option you just press the lock screen button

As said before in post:
OPTION 1: Do a factory reset from Stock Recovery. (VOL UP + HOME + LOCK SCREEN when you turn on your device, then navigate through the options)
OPTION 2: Flash a stock firmware with ODIN
Chose one.
Let us know if you need further info about it.

bricked bll-l22 can only boot to twrp, and dload folder dont work

Hi all
I have a huawei gr5 2017 bll-l22 that is totally bricked.. I had it on newest stock firmware, and rootet and installed twrp 3.1.2 berlin edition. after reboot it could only boot to twrp, and not the system. I have tried to get out of this by flashing kangvip rom, but adter that i lost the bootscreen, so now it only shows a green screen with a red and blue box, and then boots to twrp.
I can get it to boot to download mode from twrp, but evwn though i have unlocked frp and bootloader, it now says "phone locked" and if i try to flash anything it says it is not allowed failing right away.
I can not go back to stock rom as the dload folder procedure fails to work, it does only boot to twrp no matter what key sequence i press when booting.
I can however install from twrp and use the restore function. I have tried to download a twrp backup from same model and it installs everything, but fails at restoring the recover partition.
Furthermore i can not mount vendor and product.
I am thinking if I now what partitions (mmcblk***) all the partitions is supposed to be on, i might be able to mount them manually from the terminal window in twrp.
Could someone with a working bll-l22 give me this info?
It is posIble to get a list of the mounted partitions including what block they are mounted on using the "Android device system information" tool.
I would be very gratefull for this info or any other help i could get with the problem.
The following method can help you recovering your device.
1. Download the Rollback package for the phone for US version. It is BLN-L24 available on Honor US site.
2. Download the base package available on the site BLN-L24B110
3. Copy the rollback package to a SD Card and use dload method.
4. Now copy the Base package for BLN-L24 using dload flash it.
5. The device will boot to US Version with MM firmware.
6. Now using Firmware Finder app Update to the version you require for your original model.
Try this is it work.
I tried the rollback on my original Huawei gr5 emui 5.bllll2 and bricked it.. I don't think you can use twrp for the most up to date firmware for this phone yet?? I've been searching for ages but not sure if I want to try it again..
No do not use TWRP for rollback package. Boot the phone to Fastboot and flash the stock recovery. Now use the Volume Up+Volume Down+Power Key combination to rollback using dload method. Always remember to keep TWRP on recovery2 partition which is a safe option. It will have your stock and TWRP both on the phone,
Use this procedure
1.Download package from support sitehttp://consumer.huawei.com/in/support/mobile-phones/honor6x-in-sup.htm
2.Then extract update.app from zip file
3.boot in fastboot mode and flash stock recovery image on recovery not on recovery2
4.Now boot into the twrp and enable mtp mode
5.create 'dload' folder in internal storage and put update.app in dload folder
6.then power off device
7.boot your phone pressing Volume UP+Volume DOWN + Power Off simultaneously
8.then it will start updating
Team MT tool
Use Team MT multi toolhttps://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=24407
thanks for all the replys.. none of the solutions work.. the dload function is not working (tried with sdcard and internal memory) and in fastboot on the phonescreen in the bottom it says "phone locked" and all attempts to flash whatever img file results in error "remote, not allowed".. I have succesfully (allmost) recovered a fulæ system via restore function in twrp and a downloaded backup.. but it fails when it reaches vendor and product..
I have noticed that if i use terminal command "mount -a" it says thay it fails to mount vendor and produkt on /dev/block/mmcblk0p47 & /dev/block/mmcblk0p48.. but those do not exist.. in /dev/block/mmc**** the numbers go from only .
I have tried editing /etc/recovery.fstab, and manually mounted vendor and produkt to all "free" mmcblk0p* but only changes the error from "invalid argument" to "block device needed" when trying to mount them or work with them in twrp
i mean the numbers in /dev/block/mmcblk0p goes from 1 to 42 only
Okay!! So I tried for the millionth time to use the dload function.. I did everything as all the other times.. formated the sdcard, made the dload folder, copied the update.app to the folder and used the three keys to boot..
LOW AND BEHOLD! For some reason this time it actually got to the screen with the cirklecle saying emui, and started the update..
After it finnished it rebooted, still showong the green screen with blue and red box, but after a minute is went to black screen, still powered on..
I left it maybe 15 minutes.. still nothing.. So i rebootet to recovery, but now the twrp is gone and it boots to erecovery.. it offers to download and recover via wifi, but it fails to get package data from server..
So i tried to use three other update.app files, wich all failed because the model is wrong it says.. Even though i used ones for gr5 2017 bll-l22..
Strange.. but after these failed attempts, i decided to try another update.app file and by accident press reboot in stead of shutdown in the erecovery.. And now the phone still shows the green screen with boxes, but then i got a Huawei logo, and it freaking booted the phone completely!
Only difference i can think of with the dload method, from all my millions last attempts, is that this time i formated the sdcard in another phone first.. not in the huawei or the pc..
I am actually writing this on the former bricked bll-l22!
One thing that bugs me is that the phone name and model number in "about phone" is wrong.. name says onyx a168, and model says generic_a15...
Any idear how i get this fixed?
Okay.. new update.. Trying to fix the wrong model name and number and escape the testkeys release OS, I ended up trying to flash again with the dload folder.. only file it would install was the testkeys version.. So i tried to flash manually the stock rom in fastboot, i successfully flashed both recovery and recovery2, but it failed to upload system after first partial image was sent.. So it left me with a crippled system that would not boot once again.. andnow the dload function did not work again.. I tried for some reason to relock the bootloader, thinking that might help, with the fastboot command "fastboot oem relock ********" and then it wanted to reboot to restore factory setting.. Only now it halted again in boot screen, and would not even go into recovery or fastboot anymore.. Connectiong to pc was also not possible as it just did nothing.. The pc did not see it when connected.. So i was out of options, the phone would only stay on initial boot screen forever and get very hot..
I read in another post in this forum that another user had contacted Huawei and told them he had rooted ect and bricked his phone, and they fixed it anyway under warranty.. And i have still (technically anyways) warranty on the device..
OK so i called Huawei in Thailand (where it is bought and i live), and told them what the problem with the phone was, not mentioning root though, just told them the symtoms it showed now.. They found that nearest service center is 4 hours from where i live, and asked if it was convinient for me to go there.. As i said no, not really, they offered to send a currier for the phone! Next morning the currier got the phone at my house, and three days later he brought is back (today).. They have changed the motherboard and the phone is like brand new again!! Under warranty and with free currier service on top too!! I feel confident the service center without a doubt knew what the cause would be for a phone to be so f*cked up as it was, only showing a green screen with blue and red box and nothing else..
Huawei you rock!! That is just world class, first class, customer service and warranty service!!
My wife gave the stink eye and made me promise to not f*ck it up again hahahaha
Lets see if i can keep it. Maybe i should just use my old galaxy s5 to fool around with in stead.. That i know ho to fix even if bricked beyond boot and dead..
Whoa that's an awesome move by Huawei team, they even sent a courier at you?! That's how a customer care should always work. So nice
Yes they even sent a currier to my house.. And returned it same way, free of charge.. They freaking rock!

Fantastic. Haven't heard of any such positive support after sales. This is awesome atleast for you bro.
Sometimes its nightmare for user even for a small issue while claiming the warranty.
To be honest.. I was expecting a call from some "angry" support worker from Huawei saying: "sorry we cant help you, unless you pay this and that!".. But i was very wrong and very pleased!

They are being served by the same backend.its just a front end changed. We had lot of talk on this with Huawei CEO as well in China and were clarified.
Another option
Since you have twrp you are in good shape.
What you need to do first is download the files to an sd card from
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/development/rom-t3641267 (unoficial.zip and vendor IMG. --opengapps is optional and can be done later)
Step two download the .zip from https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/development/rom-t3641768 (pa_berlin - same thing with open gapps again)
Now if you still have adb tools on your computer you are good.
You need to now put the SD card in the phone and boot to TWRP. Go to wipe and click advanced wipe, and select everything except internal memory and external sd card.
Now, Click on install and find the FIRST RROS zip you downloaded and install that.
Now, go back to the install and install the vendor img. Then go back and go to the file manager and locate that vendor image and copy it then paste it to the SD Card that is on the internal memory, not the external SD card that it is already on.
Now, plug your phone into your computer and open your adb tools command prompt. More than likely it will not show up as a connected device and you will have to tinker around twrp and try adb sideload and if it doesn't work try shell fastboot reboot fastboot and so on. Eventually you will find an area that will allow adb commands.
When you do, type... adb shell
dd if=/sdcard/vendor.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/vendor
Now unplug your phone and wipe cache and dalvik and reboot back to twrp. You could reboot your system but it will not boot all the way up but installing this first allows you to install the next set of downloads and your phone will work.
Now that you are back in TWRP click install and find the second zip you downloaded (pa_Berlin) and install it. Wipe cache and dalvik. And reboot system. Your phone will now boot up.
If you enjoy google apps download open gapps and install it in TWRP. The Pico version only has play store , so you can install what you want.
Have fun.

I'm in a similar situation as the original post, but the /vendor and /prodcut partitions appear as being 0MB and no matter what they always fail to be mounted when using TWRP.
I can do every step you mention but not the installation of vendor.img from TWRP as the partition cannot be mounted.
Do you by any chance know would a solution be to get /vendor mounted and follow fully your steps?

I need help. I relocked my bootloader, and now my phone (OP7P) won't even turn on

So over the past day I had rooted my oneplus 7 pro and all was going well until I decided to delete the netflix stock application. Then I restarted my phone from holding the power button and pressing restart and then I booted into fastboot. Everytime I pressed start it would send me back to fastboot but I was able go to twrp recovery. Stupidly, I wiped the whole phone thinking I had no other options. Then after that, I found a setting in advanced that allowed me to leave recovery mode I think? Whatever it was, I was booted back into the oneplus start screen and reset up my phone. Then I tried to re-root my phone and couldn't get it to work because it said the magisk zip file was corrupt. Then I just decided to give up and go back to stock.
Little did I no, you are NOT supposed to relock the bootloader, because that is exactly what I did. After doing that, I got a message saying my phone was corrupt and I looked up quick solution and it said to press my volume buttons and power buttons. Now my phone won't even turn on. I am freaking out right now, knowing that my phone is probably bricked and I am going to have to pay probably a third of what I even paid for this phone to get it fixed. When I plug my phone into my pc the device is shown as "QUSB_BULK_CID:0404_SN:3BB285D7". If any of you guys can help, I'm all ears.
edit: I meant I locked oem/bootloader. Also, I got the phone to power on. It is in a bootloop where the oneplus logo shows up and then it gives me the message "Your device is corrupt. it can't be trusted and will not boot"
edit 2: After two hours, I finally fixed it. I downloaded the MSM tool and found the qualcomm drivers and after a few trial and errors, I finally got it to work

U probably should have flashed stock firmware before relocking the bootloader
As long as you can boot into fastboot you should be good. Make sure you have correct drivers etc etc. Boot into fastboot and just boot into twrp, don't flash. Wipe data, system, vendor, dalv, cache. Recheck on what to delete and what order because it has to be the correct things and I might be mixed up off the top of my head, delete them in twrp. Then boot back into twrp after all that and reflash your custom rom. Take note if your ****s bricked you wont be able to install the zip via regular twrp swipe, you will have to use twrp sideload feature with adb and install from pc and install it that way. If that doesn't work at all just do a complete reflash of stock firmware via fastboot. Reflashing custom should work though I got mine out of a brick this way. As long as fastboots working you can get out of anything. Also Linux is 100x better than other OSs for this stuff.

OK here's the order. Boot into twrp, don't flash.
Wipe -> ADVANCED -- select system + vendor -> SWIPE TO WIPE
reboot bootloader
fastboot boot back into twrp
-- then --
Format data, Wipe cache & dalvik-cache
Flash ROM.
Then reboot system. Boom.
Remember you will most likely have to flash the ROM via sideload. As transferring will not work in a bricked phone.
