Hello everybody, I have this problem:
When I use hw decoder I get perfect sound but video is blurry.
When I change it to hw+ I have perfect video but no ddp or dts sound. Any solution?

Is it a local video or network stream?
HW decoder basically uses android mediaplayer API implemented on your device. If it is a network stream ( specifically HLS or DASH) it may happen due to adaptive playback. It will automatically select the best stream based on the current bandwidth. In HW+ or SW decoder, it will always play the first stream despite the bandwidth availability.
The problem occurs with local videos, mkv with ddp or dts sound. It is quite strange: Videos look like being projected on a screen with retention problem with hw. With hw+ videos are fine, but no sound
idn, but may restart will help?

Hi KTSamy,
I installed latest player and ARMv7 NEON codecs as it was advised by the player. However, it still not works properly.
I use a file manager capable to connect to my SMB shares and I initiate the playback from there. I tried to use HW+ decoder but I got a message stating that it is not supported. Using the recommended settings for HW decoder (software audio) I am still missing the sound. It worth to notice that audio channel selection contains 6 entries with some strange characters in them when in reality there are only two audio channels. As I found, others maybe some built-in subtitles, but there is nothing to do for them among audio channels. In this situation playback of a HD video is smooth enough, but there is no sound.
Switching to S/W decoder during playback solves problems with sound, and audio channel list shows the correct number and names of really existing audio channels. But in this mode even a SD video is painfully lagging. Impossible to see... If i switch back to HW decoder than sound remains and audio channel selection is also OK if the software audio decoding is selected. But the video still lagging. Not so much as in case of S/W decoding, but all my HD videos are rendered useless by that. Disabling sound in audio channel selection improves much the video playback, but again, without sound.
I think that the PAD2411 is a quite powerful device at least it should cope with HD video playback. Unfortunately it has numerous compatibility issues with almost all other video players due to the absence of its' own display. (Playback must go directly to the HDMI output.) MX Player is my unbeatable favorite and I use it on all my other devices without any problem. Do you have any idea how could I optimize the playback? Maybe the codec or the app should be adapted?
Thansk in advance!

Regarding audio issue on H/W decoder with S/W audio, Kindly collect the log immediately after playing the video & Upload here.
Regarding S/W issue, Your processor (Cortex A9 Dual Core) is a very old processor & not a powerful one. So, it can't handle many videos smoothly.
Note:
Kindly create a separate threads for your issues.
General issues are not to be reported on Custom Codec thread

Hi KTSamy,
It has been quite some time ago when I uploaded the log you requested. Were you able to review that? Did the log provide the necessary information? Should I do anything else to move things forward?

I was busy with my work. So, I was not much active in XDA from the last few weeks.
Actually, In network playback MX Player won't use software audio with H/W decoder to avoid authentication issue.
If you H/W+ is working on your device, you can use it as alternative.
If you still wish to use H/W decoder, if Switch to H/W+ & Revert Back to H/W decoder it will bring the audio back.
According to the information provided by the developer, MXPlayer major upgrade v1.8 will resolve network authentication issues.
Is it possible to create a wider codecs combinations for decoding posibilitie of MX?
For example: HW video with HW+ audio
Or create separate codecs settings.
On my Amlogic S812 there is problem with decoding MKV video file with HW+ decoder, video is twitching (or somewhat, I can't more correctly describe this effect) with 3 to 5 secs. Interval. With HW it's OK , but no sound.
Thank you for your help.

Just enable SW audio from audio track selection. You will get HW video & SW audio.

I allready tried it. But sometimes I got double sounding on AAC codecs while SW audio was set permanently.
Sets SW audio separetly for each MKV is not so comfortable for my opinion.
Is there some way exists to use only SW audio for all files, I think MX does not block HW audio if track was supported by HW in this mode, or it's a bug?

I can't reproduce the double audio issue.
Can you collect the logs immediately after playing the file which leads to the double audio issue?
If it's possible kindly share a sample video.

Is there a way to do the opposite of that? I need SW video & HW audio.
When I play test files directly from the device, I can use HW decoder and they play flawlessly. But when I play files from my NAS with the HW decoder, MX Player buffers. If I use the SW decoder playback is smooth, but the audio is always downmixed to stereo. I have tried both the default and custom software codecs with the same results.
Also MX Player informs me that HW+ is not available on my device, if that make a difference in the decoder options I have selected? I have tried "HW+ audio on SW video" with "SW decoder (network)" but MX Player still shows playback to be HW with the results mentioned above.
I have a number of videos with the following properties. Their video frame rate is 30 at 720p with codec of H.264 part 10, using Lavf57.27.100 to encode. The audio is AAC at 48kHz..
I played these videos on different number of android devices using MX Player with HW decoding. The video is delayed by a second or two. But with HW+. things seem ok.
I played these same videos on the same android devices using BS Player. The video and the audio are perfectly in sync.
How come? Please help.
BS uses a implementation similar to HW+ as default. So, you will get the result like HW+.
In HW decoder, MX Player uses the mediaplayer implementation from android itself. MX Player's control on it is very limited.
If HW+ works fine, you may just use it. From 1.9.0 HW+ will be enabled by default for all users with android 5.0+. But, HW will be the default one as usual.
I test HW can Passthrough sound , but HW+ can't Passthrough sound...

which codec?
If you have a custom codec which supports the codec, it won't be passed through.
can you collect a bug report immediately after playing the video that has issues?
Anyhow, in the next version, we will add an option to prefer audio passthrough over internal decoders.
viedo code is x265
play video use HW no video, audio ok
HW+ video OK, audio not work!
I have the same question (problem). I'm using MX player PRO on my TV POS 9002.
When I use HW Decoder there is DD and DTS audio but 4k HEVC 10 bit HDR 23.976 DTS and DD files are stuttering.
When I use HW + Decoder 4k HEVC 10 bit 23.976 DTS and DD files are smooth but there is no 5.1 audio in my Amplituner (it doesn't see DD and DTS - only Stereo).
MX Player team... Please do something with this. No other program (KODI, SPMC, VLC, ARCHOS) can play this files smoothly. Only MX Player but only in HW + without 5.1 sound
Best regards
Today was a new MX Player update with passthrough option.
I was very happy at the beginning becouse DD started to work but... sound and video stutters every couple of seconds in almost every movie I have (but not in everyone. Some plays good I have passthrough option checked.
There is no DTS passthrough in HW+. Only in HW.
It was so close...
When I uncheck passthrough there is no 5.1 DD sound from Ampli I don't know what to do
Thank You for this but I think it needs a little more testing.
Best regards for all The Team
update MXPLAYER ,The problem is the same

MX Player checks the capability of HDMI receiver. When you select this option, If the receiver reports that they support DTS or DD, it will automatically use pass-through mode even if there is internal decoder. maybe your amplifier doesn't report the capability of the DTS decoding.
In HW decoder, there is no control on our side. It will automatically pass the audio to HDMI if it's unsupported.

Hi
Thx for answer
When I play some DD movies sometimes there is audio passthrought...sometimes there isn't. I must try couple Times.
When I play in passthrough there is 80% chances that sound and video will be stuttering but...
I have a solution...I play in passthrough mode and when video and audio stutters i change sound to SW mode and for some time I uncheck SW mode. When this doesn't help I try to rewind movie to the beginning couple of Times. It usually starts to workafter couple of times.
This is my way to Play 4K HEVC 10 BIT HDR movies in DD 5.1 on my Philips POS 9002 and Pioneer VSX - 422 Amplituner.
DTS doesn't work in passthrough mode at all
It works in HW mode but video is stuttering. Video is stuttering in every Android TV player: VLC, ARCHOS, KODI, SPMC and integrated Video Player.
Thank You MX Player Devs for a great program thanks to which i can watch movies on my TV.
Best regards
wrong
Any chance getting HW+ to support passthrough audio?
Bump, so many years later and this highly popular video player stays so severely flawed to the bones for people with a proper surround sound system with DTS/Dolby support... Kodi has no issues with it all but somehow MX Player can't seem to solve their issues
2021 update
still no 5.1 sound in mx player in passthrough mode
all the options, codecs and upadates are set, but still "stereo" on reciver display
no DD, no DTS, no 5.1 and no DD Plus either

Yep and I just posted this issue not realizing that this was posted. HW+ is broken with Passthrough and they don’t even mention that it is an issue that they are working on. What a joke.

got the mx support answer:
"We regret to inform you that MX Player currently doesn't support audio-passthrough over SPDIF. However, you will be pleased to know that it's a part of our roadmap and will be supported in the future if found viable. Meanwhile, your patience is appreciated"
hi,
I have an Minix U9-H box (android 6.0) and when I play full HD streaming files from my ip tv provider using HW+ decoder, the video quality is poor. It's working fine with HW or SW decoder (The codec used by mx player is ARM V7 NEON).
I checked also in perfect player and when using HW+, it seems the player downgrade the video resolution to SD format.
Any clue ?

It should be a bug in the system decoder. In HW+, MX Player passes the frames to the system decoders to directly decode. Probably, the resolution of the decoded frame might be low. We have encountered a similar issue in the past especially when the stream is interlaced. If it's the root cause, then it has to be fixed on the firmware. You will notice similar issues with all major video player apps which makes use of similar technology.

HW and HW+ uses GPU for H.264 decoding. They performance much better from SW which uses CPU for decoding. HW can perform better than HW+ in most of the Cases, but there is a chance it does not work smoothly on many devices.
Same

It may happen when the Hardware Accelerated Decoders implemented on the device itself is buggy. Can you please contact us with screenshots of the playback on HW/HW+ and SW along with a bug reported collected from MX right after playing the file? It will help us to confirm the same.
There is no error, just low quality. HW and HW+ is same. SW is good.
The problem only occurs when viewing iptv (multicast - udp), watching the file on the hard disk is ok

It is one of the known issues on Xiaomi's TV boxes with Oreo and Nougat firmware. Based on our past investigation, it has been found that the hardware accelerated decoder's output resolution of the video frames is much lower than the actual frame size. As both HW and HW+ relies on the decoders shipped with the device, you can notice the issues on both. Request you to contact the device manufacturer so that they can fix the same on their firmware.
If it is possible, kindly share a link with us on PM or at [email protected] so that we can also escalate the same from our end.
I also tried on my phone (Mi Mix 2s - Android 9, MIUI 10) and it gave same results.

Can you please try any non-xiaomi device and check again? Can you also check whether it happens if you copy the stream to a file using FFmpeg? Without a sample clip or a link, we may not be able to seek the assistance of the Xiaomi team.

Let me guess a bit: The format of the service provider is 1080i, this issue relates to the deinterlacing algorithm. With HW decoder, resolution halved.
maybe recode your video?
