OP 6 GPS lock intermittent - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Just got my OP6 this week, have using for few days, generally very satisfied , except I'm frustrated with GPS performance.. GPS able to lock fast , when moving , it intermittently searching for GPS.. it's worst compare to OP5 and 3.. anyone experienced this , and any solution?
I have tried software GPS, it's lock very fast ,, but after that kept searching and lock again

New update.. just updated OS to 5.1.6 this morning.. seems like GPS lock is more stable.
Now I see 5.1.7 available, will try and report if this improve GPS

gps signal is not htc fault?

hello i have a touch pro and i think the poor gps fix is not an issue from htc, i guess it's a tomtom thing. when i use tomtom with the touch pro it has usualy around the 2-5 minutes to get a fix, with sygic mcguider installed on my touch pro it's always less then a minute
on both software i download the latest quickgpsfix before starting the programs
someone else tried it with sygic mcguider?
It 's definetely HTC 's fault. I never had issues in GPS fix. But with all tips and teeks installed GPS lag is allways present. I tried most of GPS software floating arround with no luck. Also tweeks are working in some raphaels and some not with same rom installed.
I absolutely agree. I tested several navigation and gps test software. all of them hat the gps issue of the touch pro

Actually my TP gets a GPS fix with 6 to 8 sats very fast. The problem is the GPS lag (i.e. If you drive fast you get the directions late), that is a common problem and HTC is actually making a fix for it.
I am using .28 radio and ROMeOS 1.21...
For TomTom, i saw a small fix/tweak that helps (thread is somewhere not to far:
In tom tom: Change Preferences
Show GPS status -> configure
Choose Other NMEA GPS Receiver -> Baud Rate: 38400 on COM4
Maybe its just me but it seems to speed up acquisition time and reduce lag.
I also removed the logging with Avanced Configuration which probably helps some

did you try the latest Sygic Mcguider v 7.60
within a minute i got every time a fix (my touch pro is one of the first in holland (early august)
No prpblem with TomTom and internal GPS.
Well i just took an hour's trip (30 mins both way) to a friend's place and i had no trouble running TomTom with my Touch Pro's gps. Coming from a phone with a BT external gps it works just fine and dandy. Initial signal fix was less than 4 mins. No more carrying around an external receiver.
Your results are far from beeing decent my friend.
With my P3300 (Artemis) fix was very fast and I never had lag problem.
My TP has same fix time but lag never go away. There is a fix for TomTom (not working in all TP) but it 's not a solution because not everybody uses TomTom. I prefer iGO8.

What do you mean by TomTom not working in all TP?? Since i got my TouchPro on Sunay, i've been using TomTom almost every day without issue. GPS locks on fast (<3 mins), no lags whatsoever at least for me. TomTom definitely works well on mine.
Well, I dont know. Im really confused by this issue. For every suggested fix there are some who report progress and others not. I am in that probably small group where nothing much has made a big difference (radio, ROM, settings and registry changes). I am using Copilot 7 Diamond edition. My TP still staggers about like a drunk in a nightclub -usually behind my position and bizarrely sometimes ahead. It cant manage corners, and it still comes to an intermittent stop whilst I am bowling along at 70mph. I have noticed that it seems car sensitive though - presumably windscreen type. In my wife's car it is much better than in mine. That might account for some of the variation in reports with the TP. I truly hope that HTC are working on a cab fix otherwise I too will be driving like a drunk for the foreseeable future!
It is confusing. That's true.
Until now I don't have any problems whatsoever with my TomTom 7.450 (Dutch ROM right from the factory, unbranded). I only had 1 or 2 times where my fix took long (> 2min). But most of the time I have a fix within 30 sec with > 6 satelites. I'm still trying everyday to verify that my device behaves at it should. Therefore, I have not tweaked my device until now. I also don't use quickgps.
My lag is small, while walking it is only 10 meters, I think. It very nicely shows I'm walking at 6 km/h, without any problems. Next will be trials in the car when I have my new car mount available.
Hi, I have a TP too, I´m very happy with the gps signal. but not at the begin. The gps signal was better when I change to .31 radio.
I need to deactivate A-Gps feature to get a good gps fix.

I mean that the tweek is working on some devices. Also there are people that use iGO8 or Navigon. Problem is not solved if some devices works fine with TomTom.

GPS lock on <3 mins is not acceptable time. Let 's say you get in your car, start TomTom and wait 2-3 minutes to get a fix?
Mine locks < 1 minute. It was never more than 1 minute even out of the box. But GPS lag is a pain in the @ss.

So...i'm perfectly fine chilling for a coupla minutes for a gps lock. 2 minutes, i wouldn't split my knickers over. Besides i' usually fiddling with something and adjusting the radio so by the time i'm ready to pull out, John Cleese is also ready for me. I'm okay with it, very satisfied.

Why all the GPS issues??? Does the Touch Pro 2 provide possible answers?

So I think there's a reason we're running into all these GPS issues. Our GPS is sub-par. Having been using a TyTn II since the day it came out, until the Fuze shipped late last I'm very disappointed with the performance of the GPS on my Fuze. I've done countless tweaks, ROM upgrades, Radio Upgrades to no avail. The lag will just not go away.
My wife still has my old TyTn II and we need to use GPS on it whenever we're traveling, because the amount of times and lag make the Fuze simply unbearable in comparison.
This comparison chart seems to highlight a difference in GPS between the Touch Pro 2, and the Touch Pro...
This link is taken from Fuzemobility.com http://www.mobilitydigest.com/applications/Comparison.pdf and compares the
GPS from the Touch Pro and Touch Pro 2... I don't know why, but something about the wording makes it seem like the Antenna on the Touch Pro 2 is superior to that of the Touch Pro.
Anyone else have a take on this?
what exactly do you mean? i didnt see anything different. but i do feel for you with the lag...

Hey I know that link If you want your Fuze to properly function with GPS take a look at this: http://www.fuzemobility.com/the-fuze-and-gps/
I'm using the leaked ROM now and it's great. I can literally get a fix in seconds. I'm indoors now (10' from a window) and I can still get a few satellites in a matter of seconds. if it's a hot start (connecting to gps after I've done it earlier int he day) it can be as little as 4 seconds.
2 & "1" have nearly identical hardware. The GPS issue on touch pro can be easily fixed with a ROM that works for you. I have a fuze and for some reason it just refused to work with Romeos, but when I switched to RRE rom GPS miraculously works! i get a lock within seconds now.

My GPS works with respect to getting a lock. I have no issues getting a lock, and I've tried several ROMS including Energy, Arrup's, NATF's, and several Radio's.
I've never had it work with any form of consistency. Some days works great (always with lag) and others it's terrible. One thing I notice with any version is terrible lag, it's just not real-time data like I used to get on my Tytn II.

Just buy an external GPS Bluetooth receiver and pair with Raphael, then all the GPS issues are gone.

a simple radio rom update will fix this, with the 1.12.25.19 radio and the rilphone from that radio and agps enabled, I get a lock in about 5 seconds, and it used to take me FOR EVER to get a lock something like 4 or 5 minutes.

did you even read. All that will fix is GPS fix. The slowness comes from the fuze's performance more or less.

May I just ask you the same question "did you even read"? With an ext Bluetooth GPS receiver, all the issues e.g fix and lag are gone away; not just a GPS fix issue. Furthermore, IndustryCanada clearly said that "I've done countless tweaks, ROM upgrades, Radio Upgrades to no avail. The lag will just not go away." and "...with any version is terrible lag"
Do you believe that 2 FUZEs run the same ROM, same Navigator applications but the one with an ext. bluetooth GPS receiver doesn't have any speed lag and position lag?
I do know AGPS enabled with radio 1.12.25.19 and its rilphone.dll significantly reduce the time to get a sat. lock; however, what happens when you go to somewhere that doesn't have any cellphone signal; people don't have data connection plan; or many carriers in the other countries do not support AGPS?
FYI, take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503690 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427888&highlight=touchpro+GPS+lag+problems
GSM Raphael position lag can be completely fixed with internal GPS and TomTom if you run the correct ROM. Here's a video showing this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFaOFYzfqqQ
Speed lag can't be fixed but isn't much of an issue imo.

GPS Time to lock on

When I first got the phone it seemed like I could lock on in about a minute. Tried to use the GPS the other day and after it searched for a few minutes in the car I just turned it off. Very frustrating... What are you guys experiencing?
I am on stock rom, rooted, gorilla v05 OC kernel.
Are you moving when you were trying to get a lock? When your moving it takes much longer to get a lock, this is true even with dedicated GPS units. Having said that my MT4G takes about 10-15secs to lock outside not moving, very nice coming from a Galaxy S which couldn't lock or track to save it's life. To many variables if moving to make a good comparison in GPS performance.
mine locks in seconds... love it after the vibrant lol
Yes, I have tried while walking and while in the car. Just tried to put the phone up to the window of my apartment for several minutes with no luck. I will try to stand still outside tomorrow.

I had the same issue! It wasn't like that in the beginning but the other day I was trying to get directions while driving and it was such a pain in the ass that after 4 minutes, it still said "searching for GPS". Garbage...
i wonder what was wrong. I was outside and the weather was pretty decent but nighttime.
Same thing here, although I was blaming it on CM rom....

I didn't root mine but I have the same problem. When I first got the phone it used to lock on GPS very fast, now I use Igo or Copilot and both take like ever to find lock on GPS . I use GPS test app and it shows like 6 GPS Sats but the programs still can't get the gps reading.
I have just tried it after uninstalling copilot just to keep one navigation application and I disabled wireless network location assistance and I think gps worked fine,i have to try it tomorrow again.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Gps is not stable, today I tried it by holding the phone in street and standing . Gps test apo got about 6 or 8 but no location locking on google maps or igo . I went to my room, placed the phone on the window I got sometimes 3 and then 8or 9 .it worked eventually and started to become fast (i turned the gps on and off) it seems like a software problem!i am not sure
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I had a lot better luck trying to lock on while standing still. I have also since switched to Iced Glacier 1.1.1 and now 1.1.2, but I think that being stationary with a good view to get initial lock is key.
My brand new Mytouch 4G (stock rom, not rooted) has the same issue. It tries to get a GPS lock using google nav for minutes without ever getting a lock. I can disable GPS and enable it to sometimes speed up the lock process, but it never locks in less than 30 seconds. From the previous posts, it sounds like the GPS hardware is sub par on this phone and there may be no quick fix. Fortunately, mine is still new and can swap it out for another and see if that helps.
My gps works fine, although once it would not lock on, and a simple reboot took care of that...
I often use GPS test or navigation just because I love seeing how well it works...
...coming from a Vibrant
I experience the same problems with the mytouch before and after rooting and installing custom roms, I think its the phone itself, I never had this problem with the nexus one
I too have noticed it is sometimes really really slow.
Much much slower than my old E-71 sometimes.
I wonder if cases/how you hold it can affect it.

Android 10 issues/bugs

Since Android 10 dropped, if anyone notices any bugs or issues I figured it would be good to make a thread about them. Been using Android 10 since it dropped, and one issue that I have noticed is my signal is more sloppy and inconsistent which may be a radio issue. I am using Sprint, but the signal has been more spotty and the reception overall has declined.
Biggest issue, battery drained so fast after update. Standby mode eat up more juice compare to Android 9. 9 was giving me 6-7 hrs SOT now it's just about 3-4 hrs SOT. Few apps which were using battery percentage half of it's usage time now using double battery.look like apps are not yet optimized for Android 10.

I've had that too, but it's not too significant, and i wouldn't worry about it for the first few days while things optimize but i also noticed slight battery drain.
Been trying to update the signals. The radio is definitely having issues for my carrier.
Pixel 3 in the Call Application, my screen goes black after call in connected and I can't seem to get the screen to become active again until call is over and I hit the power button twice. This just started after an OTA update to 10...
I updated to 10 OTA and since updating my wifi calling isn't working. Whenever I try to toggle it, it just says that it's unavailable and to try again later. I haven't performed a factory reset because it's always such a pain to do that (especially with all the accounts I have using 2FA w/ Google Authenticator).
My cell/data reception has also been significantly decreased, according to my little indicator in the notifications.
Anybody else having these issues?
My reception has always been poor with this phone so I cannot confirm our deny that it's worse on Android 10 stable.
However I ota updated from final beta to stable 10 and my phone randomly goes home while I'm using it. Really annoying when having an app open to have the home screen constantly appear.
Personally I'm having between 2 and 3 hours of SOT, and always had those stats on Android 9 too, for very basic using (no calls, no gaming, no videos, slight browsing, few SMS, etc). Hope battery will be much better for the Pixel 4...
I forgot about this. My phone initially also got stuck on the boot screen. I was like oh great here we go. Apparently it's an issue. Android 10 appears to still be in beta mode despite being released as stable.

Unbeliavable, how google tries to force you towards its search engine!! I could probably get used to thr new gestures, but not to that notorious search bar!! There is no reason to block all Launchers from working with gestures. I hope somebody will soon hack that!
you are furthering probably biggest bug of Q (not affecting everyone though, but many people)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3-xl/how-to/android-10-sensors-bug-t3964904
As I said in another thread, I have not been able to flash the factory image of either the .019 or .020 firmware. I've been doing the method of running the flash.bat file minus "-w" to prevent it from wiping my phone, using the latest SDK Platform Tools and after trying both they both cause a bootloop. My phone will attempt to boot up 2 different times and fail (assuming once for each partition, A & B?) then go back to fastboot mode.
Considering this other major bug with the sensors now not working, I guess holding off may actually a good thing for me for now.

Had no issue with sensors but am stock unrooted since the phone was purchased. From that link it appears it may be a rooting issue. I'm surprised that that it didn't go away though after wiping and reflashing stock images and relocking the bootloader

Yes, I've had a few random reboots since updating. It's been happening randomly in Google maps, YouTube, etc. I don't really want to factory reset unless I have to though.
Hey guys here is an android 10 bug on my Verizon pixel 3, when I goto the recent apps and try to clear them they will all get cleared and then when I go back to it they are all still there. Anyone else having this problem?
Im using google Launcher, and when I change the gestures sometime they all clear for good but sometimes they still won't until I restart the phone.

Anyone else having GPS issues on his/her Android phone for the last few weeks?

Hi,
I have strange GPS issues on at least two of my Android phones, so I assume this is not phone related.
For the last few (1-2?) weeks I am facing severe GPS fixing issues. I first noticed it on my old Samsung Galaxy S4 mini with LineageOS which I have been using as my car navigation system for more than 2 years without ever having GPS issues. It has always acquired a great GPS fix within 1 minute even after being switched off for weeks. Now it often takes 10-15 minutes to acquire at least a bad GPS fix (3 Sats) which enables me to navigate with Google Maps. Sometimes when driving for a long time, it eventually goes up to 7 satellites.
I thought the phone was broken, but then I checked with my Redmi 4X (santoni) which also has a great GPS. But I am facing similar issues on this phone. It sometimes takes several minutes to get a GPS fix. It receives 15-20 satellites for several minutes without getting a fix, then it gets a fix and the number of received satellites drops to 8-10 (which is OK but not good).
As both phones which had a great GPS before are now having these problems, I do not know the root cause of the problem. Maybe problems with AGPS? Problems with Goole Play Services? A colleague told me yesterday that he has been facing similar problems on his Android phones for the last 2 weeks. Anyone else having similar problems?
My phones tested:
Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, LineageOS (latest official build, I think 14.1)
Xiaomi Redmi 4X, Xiaomi.eu 10.3
Both worked great before...
Will test my obsolete Asus Z00ED this weekend but expect the same problems.

What you are describing seems like it might be an issue with the system in your area/region. An issue that is somehow external to the devices, not an internal hardware/software issue.

Thanks for your reply. On Thursday I tested my old Asus Z00ED as car GPS. It fixed 16 satellites within half a minute.... Probably I will just use that phone rather than the S4 mini. The screen is bigger and the phone is a lot faster anyway. Still I have to check why the santoni GPS is also much worse than the Z00ED and than it was before...
Interesting. Yesterday I first used Strava to track my cycling and it told me that I did this trip in August 2000. Reading a little bit further here:
Many athletes are experiencing syncing issues as a result of a significant worldwide GPS change that happened at midnight on April 6th. Please note, some athletes were not affected until August 17th or November 3rd, when their devices' "GPS rollover date" transitioned to the year 2000. You can read about the changes here and here. If your device's manufacturer did not release a software update to account for this change, your recordings may have failed to sync to Strava OR synced with the year of 1999 or 2000.

As the problem occured in November 2019 I am very sure that this idiotic GPS week rollover was the source of all problems!
Nevertheless, I switched the s4 mini to another one I had in my drawer with broken screen and stock ROM. And yesterday the GPS reception was f*ing good (24 satellites!) despite the rollover! Don't know why. For the moment I will leave it like that as it works. The Android version is very very outdated and I manually have to change the date in Strava, but I will live with that as the S4 mini is perfect for using it as a bike GPS...
