I've been using HTC Desire s just for 1 week, it's good device but can't use a day after full change morning. I hate the battery life iphone but it is worse. Do you know how to get the battery life better this HTC Desire s ?
I've done 2 things like below.
1. 10 Tips for saving HTC Desire
2. Once full charge after battery dead(100% consumption)
Any better idea ? Thanks in advance.

Same to me. 30 hours is max. This is not very good....
I also have the same as if I leave my desire S in stand by for 6 hours it loss 50% of charging and I sure that everything are closed (Wi Fi , Bluetooth , GPS , data connection , Application) so pls can anyone advise if this is special problem on my phone or it's generally in all Desire S
I find the battery quite good actually.... I normally charge it over night and have at least 25% left, normally towards 50 depending on how much angry birds i played
I have WiFi or 3g enabled, no gps or bt

Perhaps you can install battery monitor to find the cause...

I'm getting around 30 hours before my nerve goes and I charge it up again at about 25%, but I'm still using the phone quite a bit more than the dumb-phones I've had in the past.
Check: Settings > About phone > Battery > Battery use
Essential apps:
Battery Monitor Widget
Power Monitor Widget
Screen Filter
I have the screen set to auto brightness, but use Screen Filter to reduce the overall brightness to (say) 50% outdoors, 35% indoors, and 25% in the evening.
I find the biggest drain on the battery is the display, but maybe that's because I've reduced a lot of the syncing.
In "Accounts & sync", I've disabled syncing for most things, especially HTC Sense; Weather widget updates every 3 hours, other things every hour or so.
WiFi is usually off, though even when it's on, it doesn't drain the battery much.
I get the worst battery drain when playing games or watching video, especially with the brightness turned up.
GPS is enabled, but rarely in use. 3G coverage near me is poor, so I'm usually on 2G only.

Try these:
-wifi settings advanced setting for sleep after 15mins
-usb debugging on
-cancel auto sync OR sync frequency for all those things that like synching all time
-change email sync (default is every hour)
-change weather update
-turn off gps
-screen sleep quicker
there are some apps which are poorly put together and can drain battery, i had problem with android market fault and had to reinstall it, also 3g watchdog had an issue before
the desire s battery is better than most android phones, certainly one of the best compared to other htc phones so battery life shouldnt be an issue..
I get two days use. I consider myself an average user. Calls, sms and internet browsing.

Don't use Screen Filter unless your intention is to reduce glare when using your phone in darkness. It will not save you any power if you are using an LCD display. and

If all you do most of the time is idling, it should last a couple of days.
My experiences:
I always using all features in mobiles such as localisation, 3G, wifi, synchronization always on. I'm doing this because phone is for me/I am not for phone
Some stats on Desire S:
-wifi only(mobile network off) 60 min of video, 10 mins voice calls, few text, few emails, few webpages 50% screen brightness
result: 27 hours
-wifi off(mobile network on) 60 min of video, 10 mins voice calls, few text, few emails, few webpages, 50% screen brightness
result: 22 hours!!!
Cmon HTC, this are very bad stat!
Anyone know is that good stats? Please don't tell me to switch off this and that...If We will be thinking in this way maybe we just put mobile on air plane mode, set birightness to 20% and then We will get around 40 hours.
Do You think, that custom roms can help with it?

Of course I did. I always doing calibration even if now is not necessary...
I have WiFi, BlueTooth, 3G on all the time. Sync on and the device is in background alone collection app. 3MB of data.
If I don't use the phone, then it uses app. 15-20% of battery a day.
I can use the phone app. 5-6 hours a day for browsing, install programs etc.
I thing that is a full days use.
I have turned off auto brightness, as I don't think it is working. In normal day light I set the light to 50% which is nice for the eyes. (Auto mode goes to almost 100% all the time, which uses more power.)

Well I have a less than a month old galaxy s6.
It's constantly connected to wifi or 4g. (90% of the time)
I also have a geo location on with the high setting (GPS/Data/Wifi)
I use facebook, instagram, snapchat, messenger(Facebook) app, and spotify the most (Power hungry? or not)
I see and hear people getting at least 5-6 hours of SOT without root or custom ROM, but I only get maximum of 2.5 hours of SOT and 9-10 hours of total running time.
So I was wondering if it was my phone's problem or my usage habit problem.
I turned sync off from the settings if that helps.
How often are you using spotify while your screen is off?
Those apps drain battery, go to settings and data usage, restrict background data for each individual app that you don't need constant updates, like Facebook and Instagram, not Spotify since you would actually be using it in the background. WiFi also drains more battery compared to 4g when on standby(maybe it's just how mine is configured)
Sent from my SM-G920T1 using Tapatalk
2.5 hours SOT on stock rom is not surprising. All of those apps are known battery hogs, and you don't even have to use them much because once they are installed, they stay in memory and run in the background. If you want to get serious about maximizing battery, flash a debloated rom and use Greenify + Servicely + App Ops to restrict wakeups.
Edit: I routinely get 4.5+ hrs SOT and 30+ hrs total standby, but I don't use fb, snapchat, instagram, spotify or whatsapp. I do, however, stream a lot of music via Deezer.

Quite alot. I dont use music app anymore. Once I leave the house(wifi zone) I use spotify offline mode. I thought that could save me data and battery
Wakelocks
Oh, also is there a way to check for wakelock in the stock ROM?
I came from nexus 4 which was super easy to root and install custom roms on it.
However, galaxy s6 is not a cheap device so I want to keep the warranty/knox before rooting and putting custom roms on it.
Trying to look for the max battery without any rooting for now
There's no reason to be getting such a low SOT on stock. I use whatsapp, facebook, and I stream a lot on Deezer through my car on bluetooth using 4G, and get around 5 hours every day.
The only app in there I would point the finger at is snapchat. Camera is power hungry and if you're taking a pic every time you send a message (Yes I know people who do this), then that will have a massive effect on battery. Spotify offline mode won't cause too much trouble.
I would check battery stats and possibly install GSAM just to confirm which app is eating the most that'll give you an idea of what to modify.
Do you have any enhanced features switched on like Wifi calling, Voice over LTE or maybe even NFC switched on?
Also location features can cause a drain, I turn mine off unless I specifically want it.

Ahh well I do use snapchat quite alot i guess? but i dont send picture with the msg everytime.
I dont think canadian models have wifi calling or VoLTE and I always turn my NFC off.
I will try turning my location off when i dont need it.
hi
i have a new (3 months old) unrooted nexus 5 update to latest OS version which is showing some very odd stats wrt battery consumption.
first i had heavy battery drain but then i disabled the scanning options in the location menu which helped. but still even with brightness at only 18%, battery saver on 95% of the time, location & mobile data off all the time & wifi only used for short bursts it still seems to drain quite quickly.
app usage stats as reported by the inbuilt battery stats option differs quite a bit from other battery management apps (du battery saver, battery doctor, gsam battery monitor)
for eg. inbuilt battery stats doesnt even show wifi consumption in the stats even if i use it for few hours (then suddenly one time it showed up with some excessive consumption stats - 1500mah for 2 hours usage; photos attached). very often it shows gravity screen app as the biggest consumer of battery while other apps show gravity screen as consuming very little power. otoh gsam shows battery doctor as consuming the most of all the apps.
what could be the issue?
gsam shows average battery life with screen on as 3h 42m. is that ok?
was also wondering if the optimization options of the battery management apps work or are they gimmicks? for eg both du battery saver & battery doctor show 'x' number of apps consuming power in background & when you press the optimise/close apps button it shows some cool effects of shutting down those apps but you come back after a few hours & the same apps show up in the running in background.
also, the front camera is very grainy. cant believe its that bad in what was a flagship phone. is it just my phone or is that the how it is for other users?
anyone with any inputs?
You got nearly 5 days on a single charge??? Yes, your battery consumption is fine. Nearly 4 hours of SOT is fantastic.
The graininess of the camera will depend a lot on the lighting. Unless you have a light shining directly on your face, the picture is probably pretty dark. That said, it's "only" like a 3MP camera. It's well known as a sub-standard front camera (I'm not a selfie machine so I don't really care). When you think about how microscopic the light sensor is on the front camera, it's no wonder the picture is grainy.

thanks for your reply exninja
that 5 days was a one time thing where i barely touched the phone & then only to test it. i wish it were that good LOL. normally i get about 2 days with very conservative usage (brightness at only 18%, battery saver on 95% of the time, location & mobile data off all the time & wifi only used for short bursts, 0 talktime)
is 4 hrs SOT that good? i see a lot of people getting 5 to 6 hours + & that too without those conservative usage patterns.
the thing that got me worried is the strange battery usage stats reported in the stock settings.
Honestly I wouldn't worry that much about what each app says is using energy. They're each consuming very little anyways. I'm not familiar with gravity screen so I wouldn't know about it.
I haven't heard of many people getting 5-6 hours of sot, especially since lollipop. I got 4 hours on KitKat, then dropped to 3 or less on lollipop. Now it's usually around 2 hours.

First of all, just to let you know, recently Google Play Services have been acting up. Sometimes I get normal battery drain overnight when I sleep, and sometimes it drains like crazy. For now, there is nothing we can do about Google Play Services.
However, if u noticed that WiFi has been turned on the whole time via the battery history chart, despite the fact that you did not even turn on WiFi at all during that period, then this can only mean one thing. You must have enabled WiFi Scanning (the famous Scanning always available bug in Lollipop & KitKat).
To disable WiFi Scanning, go to Settings first. Then on the top of settings, there is a search bar. Type in "Scanning".
Then u will see the following options. Make sure u disable WiFi Scanning.
Having said this, there is another annoying bug. This bug is when you have left a WiFi hotspot and forgotten to turn of WiFi. So after awhile u realised it and u proceed to turn off WiFi. But hours later, u check your battery stat, and it still shows your WiFi have been active the whole time despite turning it off. For this, the only workaround is to reboot the phone. To avoid this bug, always turn off WiFi b4 u leave the WiFi hotspot area.
@pcphobic i have wifi scanning off & i always remember to turn wifi off when not using it so that second scenario is not an issue with me

The other solution that I can offer is under Location settings, go to Google Location History and make sure it is turned off.
You can still use GPS based apps with Google Location History turned off.
I suspect that if u find intermittent wifi showing up in your battery history, it could only mean that Google Location History is periodically waking up and using wifi to get an approximate location. I used to get this until I turned off Google Location History.
Let's investigate the hourly battery drain!
To start it, mine after 5 days of usage is close to 3% per hour.
Your results will be varied. You really need a lot of information to compare usage and battery drain.
1. LTE vs no LTE
2. If LTE what is your signal strength (can be negligible or a huge battery drainer)
2. BT state
3. Wifi State
4. Location Setting On/Off
5. AOD state (the number 1 battery drainer)
6. Tilt to wake state
7. Amount of notifications/calls/text
8. Screen Brightness
This is a tough are to analyze unless you have everyone state what their setup is like. You will have people that use minimum settings and report 4 days. The people that use all features and get 1 day will wonder why they are not getting 4 days use. Until you compare similar setups and usage don't get overly concerned with what others are getting.
My setup:
1. Version LTE (T-Mobile)
2. Mobile Network set to Auto (I am in a strong coverage area) ( I leave my phone on my desk and go into stand alone mode several times a day)
3. Call Forwarding On
4. AOD On
5. Tilt to wake Off
6. Location On
7. Wifi Off
8. emails~25, text~15, calls answered on watch~2 (1 minute calls)
With those setting I get 3 - 3.5% battery drain per hour. Full day use 7am - 11pm I put it on the charger with about 50% battery remaining.
Frontier BT version
Aod off
Brightness 2
Dark watchface
Wifi off
Location on
BT always on
~50 messages/d
~10 phone calls/d
1 hour/d playing with new apps and stuff
1 hour/d running or exercising
GS3 Classic BT
1. no LTE
2. N/A
2. BT connected
3. Wifi when BT disconnects (never)
4. Location Setting Off
5. AOD on
6. Tilt to wake state enabled
7. Amount of notifications/calls/text - 30 notifications/hour
8. Screen Brightness - level 3
Close to about 4%/hour with the AOD. I wish we had a way to disable seconds display in AOD because that would probably save some power.
Really kinda roughly the same energy drain of my Moto 360, Huawei watch, and Gear S2. I expected better. Still a sweet watch tho.
1. T-Mobile LTE
2. If LTE is on I use about 10% battery/hr because of crap signal
2. BT auto (primary method of connection)
3. Wifi auto
4. Location On
5. AOD off
6. Tilt to wake on
7. Notifications from phone only if not using the phone
8. Screen Brightness at 8
With that I get about 3 to 4 days of battery life on average (excluding using any LTE).
With LTE enabled I would expect a lot less, where I intended it to be on, at my place of work, it's constantly searching for a signal or has a horrible connection possibly helping to drain the battery. Not sure how it would perform where I have a good signal strength though.
**Edit**
Also, now that I don't use LTE while at work, I use airplane mode and I lose about 1% max every 3 hours.
I get around 3.5 - 4% per hour. But I have EVERYTHING maxed.
non LTE version
max brightness
max volume
AOD
vibration
location on
gps
wifi auto
bluetooth connection to phone
All s health tracking (steps, HR etc)
weather sync every hour
all notifications (email, SMS, Whatsapp, Google, Facebook, Instagram etc)
tilt to wake on
Another observation, at night, lying on the table, it consumed 5% in 11 hours giving 0.45% drain.
My first week with the S3. Came of charge at 7am on Monday and lasted until Saturday 7am. This represent a drain of less than 1% per hour.
AOD and tilt wake-up off
Brightness at 7 with dark watch face
Bluetooth on for notifications and weather
Wi-Fi off
Tracking sleep at night
Not tracking anything else
Location off
Amazing watch. I love the size. I miss the s2 classic impeccable build quality but battery and GPS tracking are too good to skip.
My main issue with the s2 battery was the drain when listening to mp3 on Bluetooth headset. The s3 still drains quickly but not as fast.
From 100% to 84% - 24h so, less than 1%
Non-LTE
AOD off
tilt wake-up on
Brightness at 6 with relatively dark watch face (Alpha Dark)
Bluetooth on for notifications and weather
Wi-Fi off (on if BR disconnect)
Tracking sleep at night
S-health - tracking steps, floors, etc
HR on
Location off
S-Voice off

It consumes about 1% / hour whilst I'm wearing it during sleep, so about double that.
I have to say this watch is totally not consistent with a lot of things. I can live with it for now but for example I walked about 20 floors today (12x3 meter + 5 or 6 times 4 meter at work plus just now 2x4 meter at home) and the stuoid watch counts 3 floors. What a mess. It also keeps insisting I live eiher 18 meters below sealevel or 20 above and hilariously I did a run yesterday showing an elevation of -112 meters.
Just got my S3, so I'm not goin to chime in yet. The first week or two will be brutal for the battery because I'll be in "ooooh new toy" mode. Once my usage settles down to casual, I'll have a good idea of battery life.
Hello,
Gear S2 is here for about a year - what is the battery experience?
For example, someone charging the battery every day for a year - do you experience battery capacity drop?
My coworker owns Moto - after about a year of daily charging the battery lost most of its capacity making the watch unusable.
Does Samsung put better batteries?
I bought S3 recently and hope for a good news...
I have had my watch for over a year. Gear S2 classic non 3G. I charge it at night and use it all day and it is still at 60 to 70% I haven't noticed any real drop in the battery capacity
Same here. Not noticeable degradation after a year.
I received mine for Christmas 2015 and been wearing it every day since.
In fact, with the firmware upgrades, it may be better than when I first received. I do keep my brightness at 3, Always On, and Bluetooth only. No Wifi, no NFC.
I can get around 2 full days with a charge, but it takes some settings tweaking to get it. Normal stock settings, I'm lucky for 18 hours. Worse if I am running an overly elaborate watch face.
I enable Do Not Disturb when sleeping.
Delete Running widgets that you don't use (steps, heart rate, water /caffeine), stuff like that.
On the Gear Manager, go in and modify what notifications you receive on your gear.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems the more apps that send notifications, it drains both my gear and S7 battery faster.
I also like to look in the information screen, and look at the Memory Usage. CPU / Memory hogs will show there.
