Battery normal? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well I have a less than a month old galaxy s6.
It's constantly connected to wifi or 4g. (90% of the time)
I also have a geo location on with the high setting (GPS/Data/Wifi)
I use facebook, instagram, snapchat, messenger(Facebook) app, and spotify the most (Power hungry? or not)
I see and hear people getting at least 5-6 hours of SOT without root or custom ROM, but I only get maximum of 2.5 hours of SOT and 9-10 hours of total running time.
So I was wondering if it was my phone's problem or my usage habit problem.
I turned sync off from the settings if that helps.

How often are you using spotify while your screen is off?

Those apps drain battery, go to settings and data usage, restrict background data for each individual app that you don't need constant updates, like Facebook and Instagram, not Spotify since you would actually be using it in the background. WiFi also drains more battery compared to 4g when on standby(maybe it's just how mine is configured)
Sent from my SM-G920T1 using Tapatalk

2.5 hours SOT on stock rom is not surprising. All of those apps are known battery hogs, and you don't even have to use them much because once they are installed, they stay in memory and run in the background. If you want to get serious about maximizing battery, flash a debloated rom and use Greenify + Servicely + App Ops to restrict wakeups.
Edit: I routinely get 4.5+ hrs SOT and 30+ hrs total standby, but I don't use fb, snapchat, instagram, spotify or whatsapp. I do, however, stream a lot of music via Deezer.

Quite alot. I dont use music app anymore. Once I leave the house(wifi zone) I use spotify offline mode. I thought that could save me data and battery

Wakelocks
Oh, also is there a way to check for wakelock in the stock ROM?
I came from nexus 4 which was super easy to root and install custom roms on it.
However, galaxy s6 is not a cheap device so I want to keep the warranty/knox before rooting and putting custom roms on it.
Trying to look for the max battery without any rooting for now

There's no reason to be getting such a low SOT on stock. I use whatsapp, facebook, and I stream a lot on Deezer through my car on bluetooth using 4G, and get around 5 hours every day.
The only app in there I would point the finger at is snapchat. Camera is power hungry and if you're taking a pic every time you send a message (Yes I know people who do this), then that will have a massive effect on battery. Spotify offline mode won't cause too much trouble.
I would check battery stats and possibly install GSAM just to confirm which app is eating the most that'll give you an idea of what to modify.
Do you have any enhanced features switched on like Wifi calling, Voice over LTE or maybe even NFC switched on?
Also location features can cause a drain, I turn mine off unless I specifically want it.

Ahh well I do use snapchat quite alot i guess? but i dont send picture with the msg everytime.
I dont think canadian models have wifi calling or VoLTE and I always turn my NFC off.
I will try turning my location off when i dont need it.

Juice Defender of any use?

Is there any practical reason to install these battery-saving apps? Most of them I have seen just tweak the menu options of your phone you can already access manually and give no additional functionality to the phone itself that you couldn't already do.
Is this any different? Or will it just sit in the background consuming battery life itself just to run its "function"?
I've always had horrible time with these "battery saver" apps
Just let android do its thing
Turn brightness down, turn off GPS, BT and 4G/LTE when not in use and lower the intervals of background updates (and by that i mean turn the time up higher lol) on apps and your battery should last longer
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
I used Juice Defender for awhile and realized it wasn't what I wanted. I tried Easy Battery Saver and that really helped out a lot.
What it did was to disable all internet, GPS etc when not in use or screen locked. It really helped out a lot in helping to save battery
I don't find they help much anyway and will just drain your battery faster, I think they're kinda designed for the average user who keeps everything on and don't know how to do all the things alot of us who are more better with Android already do.

It offers some useful functions (such as the delayed screen lock), but I found that it messed up critical functions on my phone and didn't save much on battery.

All I had is bad experience with battery savers and they drain alot more then they save for me plus I already turned off all online stuff like Wifi, bt, 3G, mobile data etc.
Juice defender pro is doing a great job for me. Recommended! No joke at all.
Also it has come to my attention that it has a feature of learning. The more time you have it in your phone then it will do a better job to save you battery. Also alot of settings to do depending on how much juice you want to save.

On my phone, I used to run Juice Defender all the time. After awhile, I realized all it was doing was turning 3G off when my screen was off and turning it back on when the phone woke up. Since I wasn't necessarily using 3G every time I woke up my phone, I got into the habit of just turning 3G off and on only when I need it and stay on Wi-Fi as much as possible. After uninstalling Juice Defender and growing accustomed to found this, my battery life has improved at least 3x and I have never looked back. Just my 2¢.

Yep, I also stopped using JD a long time ago. There are much better ways of saving battery than adding one more application - if you know what you're doing. Using JD is less work, but it's not the best way.
If you are toggling wifi, data, gps etc by your self you dont need JD. I used it sometime but I have habit to control all toggles myself and just found JD interfering with my choice and it shows it saves some 1.8X battery but I didnt find it that much.
I have tried many of them; in my use/ my phone (Nexus S, unrooted, stock JB) is Battery Stretch far the best, really almost doubling battery life.. JD, etc did save some juice, but far less, than Battery stretch. Just my 2c.
Personally I'd call my level of use on Android to be near expert. Not really a developer here, but I'm a very proficient user.
I'd say Juice Defender is totally full of crap.
So what can it do? It turns off "3G?" I swear this misnomer came from the US or something. We somehow equate 3G with data. I thought it meant it would throttle me back to 2G while the screen was off, but all it does is turn data off. Now here's a question: What the hell is the point of a smartphone with its data off? If you like social networking, email, communication, you WANT those notifications to come through. So what does turning data off while your screen do? You might as well turn off data manually and then turn it back on when your screen is on.
Furthermore, if you're interested in saving battery, use wifi in places where data sucks. The minute you turn wifi on, data is switched off. You don't need Juice Defender to figure this one out.
I can see 2G/3G auto toggle being useful, but this can be installed separately as the 2G/3G toggle app for CyanogenMod.
You should be able to tweak your battery to max it out without the use of any 3rd party apps or rooting or anything like that. Tons of newbies install a bunch of apps and as a result here's what could be draining for example:
- Google+ instant upload
- Dropbox instant upload (wow way to duplicate Google+ and effectively double your data use and battery consumption)
- Pulse news sync
- Google currents sync
- Gtalk 24/7 push
- Google latitude
People always say turn off GPS but I ask why? Are you leaving your maps on for 10 minutes at a time? I use location services a few seconds at a time. Show up to work? Checkin at foursquare. Walk into a bar? Checkin to foursquare. About to go home? Take a look at Google Maps. All that takes 1-2 minutes tops. How much battery should that even consume? 1%? Turning off GPS means what? I consume 0.5%? Woohoo. BIG SAVINGS there bro. Furthermore you gotta remember to turn it back on if you ever want to use navigation, and if anything having GPS accuracy helps when using location services like for Foursquare of Facebook checkins. You could find that venue as one nearby rather than scrolling around trying to find it because the cell tower puts you a mile away. You save time like that too.
Screen is the big one. Autobrightness should work well on most stock ROMs and even most stable ROMs. IF you're using your phone outdoors expect that screen to drain like mad, but indoors it should be fine.
Honestly, JuiceDefender accomplishes its task by crippling your smartphone. That's not what a smartphone was built for. You should be able to use all its features and get through a day unless you're on your phone 5 hours straight surfing. Then expect it to die soon. No juicedefender will save you there.
I think the point of JD is that you don't need 3g data on all the time, you can set it to enable 3g data every min/5 mins/30 mins/hour etc for a set time, if background processes are sycn'ing (gmail, facebook, twitter etc) it will wait until the sync is done, this means its up to you when you sync data, I sync evey 15 mins and it works really well. When you switch the screen on, data is automatically enabled, i have set it to use wifi when in range, or 3g when out of range (again its automatic) JD does save you battery and it does it all on its own, millions of downloads can't be wrong
Sent via TCP/IP
And that's exactly what Battery stretch does - with a much smaller footprint/memory/battery load than JD!
Just give it a try - I have tried all of them- and judge it for yourself
Another one to check out is 3GBattery, very basic but maybe that was the point too

Juice Defender is a fickle mistress. It does what you want, but it can get in the way. I use it when I know I'm going to be away from power most of the day and I either forgot my Sparq or it won't be practical. When properly configured Juice Defender bloody works. I usually end the day with a 2.4x boost when I use it. Normally my phone needs a pick-me-up after about 8-9 hours. With Juice Defender I had 35% left after an 18 hour day. The only difference was Juice Defender and using Screen Filter to drop the brightness. Had about 3.5 hours of screen on time.
Juice Defender's bread and butter is its data toggle tool, and there are some things to keep in mind with it to make the most of it.
When the data state on the phone goes from not connected to connected programs that can sync want to sync. This adds a lot of data use and cpu cycles. Because of this I've used the Application Specific control rather than having data toggle on at screen on/unlock. I don't want data coming on because I reply to a text. Data comes on when I call up an app that needs it, and data runs in the background for Music and Spotify only.
There's the argument of crippling a smartphone, but honestly, 99% of communications that come over the data network aren't urgent. Urgent communications are calls or texts. No power is more crippling to a smartphone than no data.
It's an absolutely fantastic app, but the memory footprint is huge! Even really fast devices like my evo lte slow down a little over time

[Q] Please Help ! Android System Battery Drain on Nexus 5 after KitKat 4.4.2 update

Hi,
The battery life of my Nexus 5 has taken a dramatic hit since the 4.4.2 update. I think the culprit is Android System but the GSAM battery graph seems to suggest that the culprit is Android OS kernel. My Nexus 5 is on 4.4.2, unrooted, stock ROM and the build no. is KOT49H.
In short, my phone does not seem to have a wakelock issue but I can't verify because 4.4 does not allow wakelock access without root. It sleeps fine at night and in daytime when it is not in use. I only lose around 5% or less overnight with 2x battery turning off the data connection and only turning on data connection once every night. The problem is the Android System which drains at least 17% (sometimes 25%) of battery everyday and routinely sits on top my of battery usage chart with or without me actually using the phone. My usage per charge is typically around 6-7 hours with around 1 hour 45 minutes screen on time. I had extraordinary battery life before the update to 4.4.2 (lasting more than 1 day with over 3 or 4 hours screen on time). Now my battery life is completely shot. The battery graphs attached already represent one of the better days. Some days the Android system will drain at 25% or more. You will note my phone relatively slept fine without draining at night in the first 7 or 8 hours and then the battery drain started to take a nose dive after I woke up. I feel that whenever I start using the phone (with the screen being turned on), the battery drain will occur. My observations are as follows:
1. I use LTE but the reception at my home and work for LTE is not good so the radio jumps between LTE and H+ from time to time however I do not think the radio jumping contributes that much to the drain. The drain stays the same even when I am at a place with good LTE reception. I use wifi at home but i cannot connect to wifi at work (which sadly is another issue). The wifi is always off unless i use it at home. I do NOT have wifi scanning in the settings. I have wifi battery optimization on. I never use bluetooth.
2. My google now is off. My location setting is completely off with no location reporting etc..
3. My Google + auto back up is off. I do not use Facebook, Facebook messenger, Instagram, snapchat etc. I mostly use Feedly, Whatsapp, Gmails and look at stock quotes every day. I seldom take pictures, videos or listen to music.
4. I only have one widget dashclock widget. I have removed feedly and stock quote widgets from the home screen but they don't seem to affect my battery usage that much.
5. I use Automateit but only have a few rules such as setting vibrate on weekdays etc.. I do not have any profiles which are related to GPS or location which i understand would drain battery. I also use Dynamic Notification, Light Flow, Lux, Nova Launcher, Notification Toggle and the memory in general is always below 65% in the background. I also use 2x battery to save battery which is set at switching off data after I turn off the screen and it will only turn data in the background every 10 minutes.
6. I have tried safe mode and 9 out of 10 times the Android system drain remains the same. The only way to lower the Android system drain (albeit temporary) is when I turn off the phone and plug it in for a charge, then turn it on when it is full and still plugged in. After I unplug it, the Android System drain will lower to say 7 or 8 % but it will slowly creep back up to 20% within an hour or so.
7. The CPU usage overlay routinely has 9 + readings on the top when the screen is turned on (but with no app running). I think it means very high CPU usage.
8. I do not think Feedly is causing any problems. I deleted the app and the drain remains. I also do not think GSAM is that useful as pointed out by another member here. It points to one app. You delete that app and then the drain remains it will point to something else.
9. I have been using Greenify (non-root) but it does not seem to help with my battery drain as the drain might be caused by system apps or processes within the OS.
I don't know what else to do and this problem has been troubling me for more than 1 month now. Please help !
Update on 24/2/2014:
I have given up and factory reset my phone. After I reset my phone, the apps were installed via Google Play automatically. I also switched to ART. It was fine initially for at least one day. The apps were there but I did not use or enable most of them as I wanted to transfer all my data and tweaked the settings in one goal. I mostly just used Feedly, Whatsapp and Maps for navigation. Even with Maps and high accuracy GPS on, the Android System would go below 10% even though it would temporarily increase to say above 20% during navigation. This morning, I thought the battery seemed ok so I enabled Lux, Dynamic Notifications, Lightflow, Automateit, Nova Launcher and restore the settings to most of the apps.
The Android System drain came back within 2 hours and hit 25% of the total battery drain. My phone's battery dropped from 100% to 40 % in less than 5 hours and the screen on time was only around 1 hour! I never did any battery intensive actions. The most was turning on the phone to check my battery and whatsapped less than 10 messages back and forth ! Since the drain re-appeared, I have turned off completely the location setting, Google Now, sync for Google Plus, auto-backup for Google Plus. I have removed all widgets and disabled Dynamic Notifications, Nova Launcher, Light Flow, Lux. The drain still remains the same at 23% or more.
This is driving me absolutely crazy and I am sick and tired of spending so much time and energy on sorting out the cause for drain (and to no avail!) I spent a lot more time on trying to fix the phone than really utilizing the phone for my benefit !! I just sent an email to the Google tech support and hope they will help instead of sending me generic self-help sheet. Thanks all for listening and trying to help. I am just really disappointed with Google this time.

Thanks for your reply. My N5 is not rooted so I do not have access to wakelock stats anymore.
I have removed Feedly but the android system drain persists.
Not a lot that can be done without knowing the cause. Consider factory reset?

I am hoping I don have to resort to factory reset and can wait for the 4.4.3 update but I guess my patience is running out.
Thanks for your help.
My missus' LG-P880 has exactly the same problem. Just started happening one day. It seems to be wakelock locator alarms according to bbs but there doesn't appear to be any reason for it. Its been driving me mad too. Luckily tho she's rooted so using app opps i disabled Google services location and it's kinda helped

Did you try another kernel ? When I changed to franco kernel, my battery life is better.
having weak LTE signal kills the battery but it should not be this bad.
Maybe you should try a factory reset and see if the problem still persist, if not then you have an rogue app somewhere.
You can use the process of elimination.
Start with disabling Dynamic notifications and Light flow as those have high potential for battery drain.

I had this same problem the other night. Get app ops starter from the play store. In there turn location off in Google play services and android system. Note, this may impact other apps. I don't use any that I need location for so it works for me.

I had a similar issue as well. For me I turned off a couple things and it really helped:
1. Turned off Cerberus, I believe checking location too often or incorrectly or something.
2. Turned off Account sync for Play Newstand. Noticed when a sync would occur, it would hang on Newstand for much too long which I think was waking device and keeping device awake during it's long syncs. Everything else would only take a min or two total.
3. Set G+ photo sync to only sync when on wifi and charging.
4. Removed Yahoo Weather app. Noticed yahoo weather app staying alive a lot too.
5. Removed Whatsapp. Probably unnecessary really, but any of those messaging/weather/location apps that I don't use often (if ever) I removed to make sure they weren't checking location in the background.
So far, I'm at 78% battery today when I would have been at around 30-40% usually, so that combo has made a huge difference.
It's going to be different for everyone I think, but basically just make sure you don't have any excess apps checking location in the background. And at least for me there seems to be something wrong with Play Newsstand sync hanging for long periods of time.
Yea... Even i had the same issues... Latest version killes ma deep sleep mode nd also some of a rules disappeared....
I was having similar issues and was able to narrow it down to syncing Google Services...
I found that often times Google Drive would get hung up when syncing in the background and chew up my battery.
What Google Services do you have set to auto-sync? I would narrow it down to the ones you only really need to have synced in the background and have the others sync up for you when you open them.
Also, in regards to your LTE/H+ signal, have you tried to flash another radio to see if there is any improvement? A poor signal can have a pretty significant impact on battery life as well.
Lastly, as mentioned by another user, Better Battery Stats, though requiring root, will make it a lot easier to track down the culprit of the issue if it indeed a rogue app somewhere.
Try different keyboard. I've a suspicion that latest Google Keyboard is the culprit.
I was having some unexplainable with BBS (no locks, etc.) battery drain. Which can only be resolved (though temporarily) with reboot.
So, I installed alternative keyboard (Swype in my case) and using it. So far, second day I don't have battery drain.
Update
Please refer to the OP for update. Thanks all.
battery after reset
After a second factory reset, I did not install a lot of the apps which I suspect have something to do with my drain - including Swype, Dynamic Notifications, Nova Launcher, LightFlow, Task Manager, 2x battery, Lux, Notification Toggle, Dash Clock, Automateit. I have also set my location to device only with no location history and history. I have also disabled Google Now. I have not restored my photos, music and videos to the phone yet. I have disabled sync for Google Plus, Google Drive etc.. I have also disabled auto back up for Google Plus. I am on ART.
The battery life (with around 25 % left) was around 6 hours 30 minutes or a bit more but with close to 2 hours 40 minutes screen on time. The screen was the biggest draw. Android system comes in second with around 13%. This is obviously better than before where I managed to squeeze maybe a hour or 30 minutes more but with 2x battery turned on in the background. I mostly used the phone for battery checking, whatsapp, Feedly, web surfing. I played games for around 20 minutes. I was not on wifi most of the time. Is this battery performance normal?
Thanks in advance.

I have reset the phone three times. After the third attempt, the battery drain for Android System would go back up to 20% plus. By the test of elimination, I thought I narrowed down the possible culprit to Light Flow and Dynamic Notifications. I uninstalled both of them but the battery drain remained 20% plus.
Google was willing to replace my device. I asked them whether the battery drain is likely a hardware or a software issue or a combination of both. They said (to my surprise) it is hardware issue. It seems they have come across quite a number of similar cases. I always thought it was a bug within 4.4.2 or in the google apps such as Google Play Services etc. and could be fixed by a patch or something. The phone also means a lot to me as it was a gift from my gf. I just don't want to go through the hassle of replacing the device if it is a software problem but I guess I am running out of choices unless I decide to wait for the update. What do you guys think?
It's definitely not a hardware issue. If you Google it there's threads all over the place with all different makes and models of phones having the same problem and no one can figure out why, apart from it definitely seems something to do with Google services (GmsCore.apk)
Your best option is to root your phone and use app ops and turn location access off for every app that doesn't need it. (pretty much everything apart from maps and weather apps)

Nexus 5 battery life

Hi, I really did some research but I find alot of ROMs and Kernels and I always get lost. I just need a good safe way to better the battery life of my Nexus 5 and keep it's stability and all the functions it has. So I wanted to ask what you guys recommend as Kernels, apps and lastly (I dont want to change unless its worth it) ROMs.
Sorry, its been hard without a PC to do decent research.
Enviado do meu Nexus 5 através de Tapatalk
The ROM has very little to do with battery life. It's all about the kernel or the apps.
We can't recommend kernels (or roms) as this is against the rules. They will all pretty much help with battery life. Just try them all- yourself.
Apps:
Greenify
Better battery Stats
That's it. Anything else I would recommend is going through all your settings and turning off things you dont need like location reporting etc
if battery life is all you are looking for... the difference are ... not much
Just disable google apps that you do not use, then you are good to go.
Locations settings, always off, activate only when needed. uncheck all under Google Location Reporting.
Disable NFC if not needed.
If you don't have good LTE coverage, change it to 3G under mobile networks.
For maximum battery life, do NOT activate Google Now.
eg. (These are apps I've disabled)
Drive
Earth
Email
Exchange Services
Face Unlock
Gallery (I use QuickPic as alternative)
Gmail
Google Hindi input (These ones gets disabled once you uncheck them from input settings)
Google Play books
Google Play Games
Google Play Magazines
Google Play Movies & TV
Google Play Music (I use Poweramp *Paid)
Google+
Keep
Maps
News & weather
Quickoffice

It doesn't matter what's on your phone....you should be able to get good battery life. Its all about setup and usage.
Just gotta troubleshoot issues occasionally.
Please check the thread linked above, and read read read. . (Start on last page and read back for a bit....a lot of good info)
On my phone it certainly seems to have something to do with signal quality. At home, I can put the phone next to the bed at night with it fully charged and wake up with it at about 95 or 96%.
At work a fully charged phone just sitting on my desk drops to about 90% in only a couple of hours.
The signal quality in my building at work is pretty poor, so I'm guessing the phone is using a lot of extra energy desperately searching for a better signal .

Poor and searching for signal is probably the biggest battery drain there can be.
Get gsam. And after your at work a few hours, open and click on "phone radio". It will say how long your phone was actually searching for a signal. That's a huge battery killer.
The only cures, get on WiFi. Or go into airplane mode. Toggle off data might help, then you'd still get texts and phone calls.

I do have wifi on in both locations, so the wifi part of this doesn't help. I suspect data isn't the issue, just the cell connection. My old phone used to randomly reboot inside this building when trying to get a signal . I guess I should install gsam just to verify, but the signal is really the only difference between work and home, so I'm pretty sure that is the issue.

I guess I should install gsam just to verify, but the signal is really the only difference between work and home, so I'm pretty sure that is the issue.

Usually battery drain from a low or bad signal is only a big issue while on data. On WiFi it doesn't affect the battery much , if any. Its from apps trying to sync through data on a bad or no signal. So on WiFi, that's not an issue.
At home I get fairly poor reception...sometimes only a bar...with some time spent searching for signal, but my battery times are at their best at home. On WiFi.
It could be a network issue. Some devices on networks can affect your device by spam polling your phone....might want to also get wakelock detector to see that. If the LAN is draining your battery, there will be wakelocks from it.
Try gsam and compare work results to home results. Especially good would be trying at least a few hours of total standby to see the difference at both locations. You'd have to reset gsam stats to start your standby test at all zeros though. A reboot will reset gsam.
Good luck!
Remove all google [email protected]%# ...
And disable autostart from programs like poweramp which start on boot...use romtoolbox and autostart manager
Of course, pay attention to what you're going to disable
If You will try and You have some doubt ask here
I use a lightweight aosp ROM, a minimal gapps package, stock kernel, disabled some programs from boot and run in background...and battery duration is good
Don't ask to us roms/kernel combo, please Questions like your are not allowed on xda
Always read the users feedback and make Your choice
And... My doubt..is it really needed to change the kernel ??
Give stock kernel a chance... That's all I can say...
And make sure to charge your phone the right way
Hi! Anyone knows if I can disable the processes that Viber starts every so often? Like the in-app processes, it keeps on running in the background consuming a huge chunk of my battery. I already emailed Viber about it but unfortunately they don't have a fix for it.

OK, I turned the phone off, charged it to 100%, then pretty much let it sit doing nothing after rebooting. After sitting overnight at home (where the battery doesn't drain much) the "Phone" app was way down in the list:

I think that is just the difference in signal quality. It seems to be pretty common to get degraded signal at work places due to larger structure sizes as well as more users per cell tower.
Phone Idle is from the voice network, Cell Standby is from the data connection.
Is it normal for Google Play Services to be running in the background always? The gcm and the location service is always on.

Tips to For Increasing Battery Life on the Galaxy S9

Sooner or later you will find yourself looking to save some battery life. here are a few ways.
1- Disable Always-On Display
2- Put apps to sleep
3- Lower screen resolution
4- Use Dark wallpaper/ Shorten screen timeout
5- Auto Screen brightness off
6- Turn Wifi off when not in use.
The video shows how to do these if you're not familiar with the settings on the phone. Feel free to add to the list.
Honestly I don't get any better battery life when using the phone at FHD rather than QHD. If anything it seems to me that the software had become so optimized for QHD that it may actually turn out more SOT and general battery life times. But that may just be my experience, not sure

Why not let it fall below 10% ?
I've yet to see any conclusive evidence that the battery life improves when you lower the resolution. Best argument I've seen for doing this is an improvement in scrolling and animations

And every year I laugh at it because every year people buy the best phone on the market and then make a list of how to disable everything and cripple it so they can squeeze another hour of battery life in.
I get it because I used to be obsessed with battery life but then I realized I have chargers, wired and wireless, everywhere.
Install BK Package Manager and disable all bloatware.
Quick tip for excellent battery life:
1. Go to wifi advanced settings and tell your phone to turn off wifi during sleep unless the phone is charging. ( helps a little)
2. Turn on data saver on your phone (so when ur phone is off it updates using ur data instead of wifi. since wifi is off during sleep if u did step 1)
3. Go into data saver settings and give unlimited data access to specific apps that you use such as Google play services( for account and data backup) messenger, gmail and any other important apps)
4. Go Into your battery settings, under unmonitored apps, remove every app sitting in there. Then go into always sleeping apps, and set everything to sleep except the apps you use the most and want to receive regular notifications for. (So of course Google play services and Samsung services if u use those to back up your data and some messaging apps and mail apps, messenger, snapchat etc)
If you do these steps you are preventing your phone from randomly syncing information. (The biggest culprits being the apps you don't really use such as the Samsung apps like AR EMOJIS, ant services, galaxy app store, etc).
this has saved me significant battery life. Averaging about 8hrs screen on time and get abt 2 days battery with relatively heavy use. (Inbox,YouTube, instagram, snapchat, bleacher report etc).
Hope this helps

Are you inside a building during most of the standby time? Or anywhere that would cause a weak signal? I found inside large building or places where cell reception is low causes a lot of battery drain during standby

No just no. Feels like i disabled every app there is. 4 hours sot. Maximum 24 hours total time. Draining 10% minimum during sleep if left unplugged for (7 hours) i put every app in sleep. Cant find samsung ar etc in (always sleeping apps tho) i set everything except for messenger. Snap.waze. bbs and spotify in always sleep. Still not sure it will work. Aod on. Auto brightness on.. maybe i shouldn't complain. But when people get 7 hours sot i feel like i need to complain. I had bad battery time with my s7 aswell.

I understand why you would be skeptical. i will try to get a screenshot the next time i have a chance.
Another thing I did notice is screen brightness is one of the biggest battery killers on the phone. Maybe try power saving mode but only use the -10% brightness option that should help a little bit or manage your brightness manually. Hope that helps
I'm pretty disappointed with the battery life on my S9+ to be honest. Today for example, with minimal usage, after unplugging at about 9:30 am I was down to 35% by noon.
I've recharged it and now left it sitting - it is consuming power at a rate of 1% per 10 minutes, just sitting on the table without me using it. I'm at home, with a strong 4G signal, WiFi router is in the same room, and Bluetooth is disabled.
I moved from an LG G6 to this phone because I was tired of the LG hanging and stumbling to do basic things, but at least the battery lasted a little longer - I could sit it on the table and I'd only lose a couple of percent over the course of a few hours.

I followed these steps yesterday. I took my phone off the charger about 11pm yesterday. Here is my battery info since that time
Ill tell you one way that brought my battery life to Awesomeness. lol Sounds like nothing But i deleted/Disabled FACEBOOK APP and right now im on
1 DAY 12hrs and 27 mins
WITH 52% battery left
Before I removed facebook it was about 30 hours or so.

Debloat tools and battery saving tips

To all those who claim to get over 7 hours screen on time, especially by using debloat scripts, using adb to uninstall/ disable pre-installed apps and services, other tweaks, etc.:
Please do us a favour when posting your battery stats:
1. Use your phone in manual brightness mode with brightness set at 50% (if you want, you can increase but not decrease).
2. Do NOT watch videos (local or streaming) for more than 30 minutes during the day.
3. Do not use any app (like browser) for more than 2 hours during the day.
4. If you're having dual SIM, leave both ON.
Now post your battery stats.
In cases where I see people claiming great battery life, I see that much of the battery savings happen because the user was mostly watching videos at very low brightness or just using one or two apps for more than 50% of the time.
These are NOT typical usage. We need to evaluate the effectiveness of changes done by using the phone normally.
For a smartphone, normal usage means leaving all the smart features ON, including but not limited to, WiFi, Mobile Data, Bluetooth, Location, Auto-Brightness, etc. Also keep display resolution at maximum and screen refresh rate at Adaptive (or auto managed by system).
Thanks.
Screen on time without using apps or streaming video? That doesn't make sense. You're basically saying don't use the phone and just leave the screen on. Sounds like a recipe for burn in.
No one is going to leave their screen on without using their phone. Whether it's gaming, social media, streaming media, or web browsing, "screen on time" infers that the user is actually using the phone. Battery age also plays a huge part - my Pixel 5 when new could easily manage 8+ hours of YouTube, but 3 years later it would probably only manage 5 or so....I'm not sure because I keep it plugged in.
"Normal usage" is subjective. My normal usage involves social media and streaming media. Others might do a lot of gaming, which is particularly power intensive. Others might simply use their device as a phone/PDA.

You're saying to limit usage to 2 hours 30 minutes or less, but why would someone's screen be on if they aren't using their device?

I was referring specifically to just video watching or using just one or two apps for an extended amount of time. Normal usage would involve a lot more like phone calls, video calls, chat, social media, etc.
In most battery stats that show a high SOT, I see that videos pretty much are the main usage (like 4 to 5 hours), browser for a couple of hours, and rarely or minimal use of other apps.
I too can get 7 hours or more of SOT on my S22U if I only watch YouTube at night (minimum brightness). But that isn't typical usage. On an average, I get only about 5 hours of SOT and a standby of about 12 hours (17 hours since last charge) when the battery is around 15%.
Just to prove my point, I'm attaching battery stats from two different devices that demonstrate phenomenal battery life.
In both cases, I used the phones primarily for video streaming over Bluetooth and browsing the internet. Although the Motorola phone has only the most essential apps, the iQOO phone is pretty much a full setup.
I did NOT use any debloat scripts or uninstall apps using ADB. I simply disabled unnecessary apps and services wherever the system settings allowed me to.
CONCLUSION
The battery life is largely a function of the quality of apps installed, network reception and screen brightness. Debloat scripts and other battery saving tips often only provide a placebo effect.
