In the new OOS 5.1.6, there's a new option for "Dual 4G networks - Enable 4G network foro both SIM cards when available".
For older chipsets, LTE was definitely less efficient. When running on dual sims, only one is active at a time for data connectivity.
Do you think it's more battery efficient to leave the secondary sim on LTE or on HSPA?
Hi, i read that it would be in dual standby mode, so should be low.

I have Galaxy S7 (SM-930FD) dual sim variant. I'm currently using Sim 1 for Data and Sim 2 for Voice Calls/SMS.
The Mobile Operator for Sim 1 only has 3G coverage in our place, and i'm currently using a 3G Plan on it.
I wanted to know , should i keep Sim 1 on LTE/3G/2G mode or 3G/2G mode(since there is no LTE as of now).
Will it make any difference in Data transmission speeds and Battery backup (in choosing between either of the 2 modes) ?

Hi
I do not think it will be such a huge impact on battery life but to some extend it may , if you "ask" your phone to "listen" to what signal are out there he will do it , the more signal you choose the more wakelocks (kernel) it will have , been LTE the highest priority it will always try to find that signal even if it is connected to 3G and no LTE available.
Data speed would depends on whatever your carrier has
I would keep it 3G/2G mode
Can anyone let me know if the S8+ Dual Sim is 4G/3G as Australia is turning off all 2G networks.
Thanks
It's 4G/3G/2G (SIM 1) + 4G/3G/2G (SIM 2).
TL;DR: LTE/LTE.
Pretty sure that SIM 2 is GSM only

2nd sim is 2g/3g on my s8+.

It's 4G/3G for my 955FD

Both SIMs are 3G and 4G, but you can use as 4G only one and the other one will be max 3G, or if you prefer can be 2G as well. This is not so relevant, since you switch the SIM cards for internet use (since you can not use both cards in the same time for data usage) it will change settings to 4G for the preferred SIM immediately.
I'm contemplating a purchase for a Mate 9 with dual SIM capability ( from Kogan Australia). It's advertised with dual SIM. For me, the secondary SIM would only add value if I can use it on 3G, while I keep the main SIM on 4G.
But in some documentation, the secondary SIM only supports 2G. Has anyone successfully used Mate 9 with 4G+3G SIM combination.

For sure....! I also think 4G+4G can work...
If the Australian version is the same as the European version it will support 2G, 3G and 4G on SIM 1 whilst SIM 2 will support 2G and 3G.

3G would be great on SIM 2. The problem I'm trying to solve is that our Australian telco ( Optus ) has severely degraded its own mobile network, to the point where we can't receive voice calls anywhere in our suburb. LTE used to work well, not any more. On the other hand, they improved somewhat on their 3G network. My wife is still in contract with cheap plan. So I could arrange a dual-SIM where SIM 1 is on 4G with another telco, while SIM 2 stays at 3G with the old telco. Things may improve for their network, or the company is going down, we shall see.
4G/3G is how it does it.
Both will support 4G but you'll need to put the switcher setting on your homescreen so you can switch quickly - you can't have both on 4G but both will support it. The other will be able to use 3G.
Hi,
I just gone through below website.
I found that that Multi SIM option
LTE Dual SIM Dual Active (DSDA)
LTE Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS).
But what i see in mobile, i can have only 1 LTE and 2g connection at a time. Each time i am changing LTE to other sim, it takes a reboot.

can anyone help me to stop reboot at each time changing network type
I verified a very wierd behavior. Even if I selected the 4G on both Sim, the sim not selected for data traffic is always forced to connect to 3G 900MHz. If I go in areas without that kind of coverage that sim becomes unreachable. I can deduct that dual 4G is actually a fake , isn't it?
