Galaxy S7 Oreo upgrade corrupted all my photos - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hello,
I got the Oreo update. And now all my photos on my sdcard are corrupted, showing as plain gray.
Any idea of what I can do ? The new photos I take are all right, only my photos taken prior the upgrade are ALL corrupted.
Regards.
Edit: I wrongly reported the issue, follow up

Interesting...never used the encryption feature for the sdcard ...can you take it off as there is software out there for computers that you can try and recover the pictures....that's the only way I can think of recovering them

In fact the issue is wrong. The real issue is that the sdcard stays encrypted and android tells me it cannot decrypt it because it has been encrypted on an other phone.
I haven't done a factory reset, just upgraded.

How to format an encrypted 16Go SDHC Card

Hi,

No we can't, because the encryption happens without activate the switch.
I haven't got any solution till now. I tried many way (under windows: I tried to format and to destroy the partition, but it's impossible. Under Linux, I tried to format it but I had the same result! ). It's impossible to do something.
For your information: You can only copy your data by using ActivSyn in condition that you never changed the ROM under which the encryption was happened.

I have seen in other Forum a guy who has the same problem resolve it by using Paragon Partition Manager. But the price of this application is 40$
I try Paragon Partition Manager 8.5 but I cannot delete the partition nor format the existing partition.
For information, I have this problem after flashing my Blackstone's ROM without removing the SDCard !!! and now it is in read only !!!

I confirm that you can't delete and/or format partition. But you can recover your encrypted data with "Paragon Partition Manager Professional 8.5".

[Q] [HELP] All my media (photos, videos) except rintones are deleted!

Hi Guys,
I'm utterly confused as to how can (only) all my photos and videos be selectively deleted from my phone!
From both my internal sdcard and external sdcard, only my pictures (of any format and in any folder) and the videos have been deleted!
I had connected my phone to my laptop in the MTP mode. I was trying to create a folder on my external sdcard. I tried to rename that folder to 'Books' but in-spite of my repeated tries it was still staying as 'New Folder'.
So I disconnected my phone and now connected it in 'USB storage' mode. This time I could see the 'New Folder' and rename it and copy the stuff I wanted to copy.
But suddenly I realised that the free space on my phone had increased!! I didn't know how then and I left But later in the night when I decided to change my wallpaper, I found out what had befallen me. But still clueless how and why this has transpired! :crying:
I'm running Avatar ROM 2.8b and Butter Kernel 1.3 stable.
Thanks and regards,
Nakul
My classmate once had such an issue on another phone with stock GB. It might be a very rare issue, but it seems to happen sometimes.

Connect your phone in UMS mode to PC and try Recuva file recovery software. I have used it many times and am very satisfied with it.

Phone hangs up during file-copying

I am having a weird problem with my phone, it's Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100. When I try to copy a bit large file to my storage, the phone hangs up in the middle of the process.
I have been using Cyanogenmod for a long time, I never faced this problem. But it started appearing few months ago. I have also tried some other roms, they give me the same problem. I am giving a logcat, hope that helps
LOGCAT: http://tny.cz/888f73f7

conect phone as mass storage instead of MTP
Same thing happens both for USB Mass Storage and Media Storage. In Mass Storage mode phone hangs up and the screen blacks out, and in Media Storage mode phone disconnects and after sometimes may automatically connect again.

Oh. I thought you were talking about Android's format something like EXT4, anyways, the format is correct. It's FAT 32. I am going to check it in another PC and let you know if that's my phone or USB ports problem.

I am having the same problem. Currently on resurrection ROM, FAT32 SD card (without problems, did a chkdsk on it and works fine in Windows). I can start to copy MTP / mass storage mode, but after a while the phone freezes. I guess the rom is also CM based..

ZIP/RAR files transferred to ZUK Z2 turn out corrupted(CRC error)

Basically if I download a zip/rar file via wifi or transfer it from my PC via cable it almost always turns out that my zuk z2 has corrupted it (CRC checksum error). I have flashed and done factory reset. Tried it on vendor rom (2.0.093st) and now on official 2.0.133st with the same issue. I did not have this issue 2 weeks ago. The phone is barely a month. I also noticed freezing and blinking led light issue around the same time, not sure if it's related.

Transferred files getting corrupted are often times a result of the storage medium itself (your Internal/External SD card) being corrupted. And not necessarily a buggy ROM. Try formatting your device's storage and see if that solves your issue.

I flashed it and then did a factory reset but still had the same issue. It's the internal SD card of the phone, no option for external. I have never heard of internal SD card of a phone being corrupted before, lately I have been having some hang ups involving the phone going black with the led flashing repeatedly. Do you think they could be related

A factory reset doesn't normally erase the internal SD. Only the internal storage. Because then all your files (including your media) would've gotten erased every time you did a factory reset.
If the led is blinking repeatedly regardless of the ROM, then it might be a hardware defect. And similarly, even though corrupt internal SD cards are rare, it is possible. OEMS cut corners sometimes in order to keep costs down. Especially when they try to put "top notch" specs in an "unbelievably cheap" phone.

Go to settings->storage and the option should be in there somewhere.
Ensure you backup/transfer all your files to your PC first though.
And you can use this app (if it doesn't continuously crash on your device :silly: ) to check whether or not there's actually a problem with the internal SD before doing the full format.

TWRP differences/limitations in Android Q

I upgraded to the latest Q4 beta. When doing this following instructions when flashing in TWRP it said to flash the file from USB otg since you couldn't flash from internal storage.
my question is, once you have Q installed as I do can you never flash files from internal storage? i assume this must be the case, or i have something very wrong with what i'm doing. I can't mount my internal storage at all in TWRP or see any of the files.

Everything works but decryption.
We may have to wait until official q comes before decryption works.
You may find ways to run unencrypted using search function. I know it has been talked about in the forum.

yes, i know what you are saying with encryption when you can't decrypt it still shows everything with crazy decrypted numbers like 8784322qzzwerei, etc. Even if i turn off my security and boot into twrp (i'm running the latest version i believe 3.3.1-50 according to the twrp menu) it can't see anything on internal storage. when you go to select storage it shows 0mb under internal storage. if i plug in a usb otg it immediately shows and reads that.
if i want to select a file it says select file from internal storage (0 mb)
I have things installed to slot A. these slots i'm not used to using but maybe someone when it boots to twrp its not on the right slot or something? any ideas?

Has the rom booted yet? Did u wipe? Nevermind forgot on q it just shows 0mb
U can try switching slots but it might put u back to rom u had before.
As was previously stated, TWRP cannot decrypt data on q. TWRP will have to be updated to address this. It will be the same for everyone.
Once you boot into rom, all your data will be accessible.
Maybe try fastboot boot twrp.img as that may allow decryption

even if i remove all encryption from my device the system still shows at 0mb. which means you can't flash anything in twrp from the sd card.
i'm trying to figure out why i can't get magisk vanced to work and i assume it is because the flashing in magisk isn't occurring correctly.
so does everyone show a system in twrp for q at 0mb? if what i have is normal and the norm, fine but that was the reason for this thread to list the differences/limitations of twrp in q.
I believe TWRP can't access the internal sdcard due to the change in Q called Scoped Storage:
https://developer.android.com/preview/privacy/scoped-storage
This is also why Magisk vanced isn't installing properly

Currently decrypted state, and running the device unencrypted aren't the same. Even with your fingerprints pins removed if you look in Settings/Security you'll see your device still shows as encrypted.
OnePlus 7 forces encryption by default. To run your device unencrypted you have to format the internal storage (wipes everything pictures media etc) and make sure you flash a special disable force encrypt zip every time you flash anything system related in TWRP.
Its a lengthy process to get it running unencrypted and if you forget to flash the special script even one time OP7P will force encrypt on boot and you have to start over. Its not for everybody but I know a lot of people running this way, myself included.
This should all be fixed with and update to TWRP but who knows how long that will take.
Not sure if this is worth anything or not, but it's decryption related: https://gist.github.com/mauronofrio/af29bad34ad87a1a957d193794f0bf5f

On my Pixel (original) with TWRP 3.3.0-0 and Q, I am able to do everything normally, including decrypting, dirty flash, cutstom ROMs, factory, nandroids, etc .... However, /system and /vendor won't mount. But, it works anyway!
The scoped storage is still a pain in the butt.
