No we can't, because the encryption happens without activate the switch.
I haven't got any solution till now. I tried many way (under windows: I tried to format and to destroy the partition, but it's impossible. Under Linux, I tried to format it but I had the same result! ). It's impossible to do something.
For your information: You can only copy your data by using ActivSyn in condition that you never changed the ROM under which the encryption was happened.

Did you try with a digital photo camera ???

I have seen in other Forum a guy who has the same problem resolve it by using Paragon Partition Manager. But the price of this application is 40$
I try Paragon Partition Manager 8.5 but I cannot delete the partition nor format the existing partition.
For information, I have this problem after flashing my Blackstone's ROM without removing the SDCard !!! and now it is in read only !!!

Does your card was encrypted? I ask you the question, because in my case, I can't format-it using camera.

I confirm that you can't delete and/or format partition. But you can recover your encrypted data with "Paragon Partition Manager Professional 8.5".

Micro SD Write-Protection error !!

This is an unusual problem. I am using a 2GB Sandisk MicroSD card on my G3 running a slightly modified version of DDJP2. The problem i am facing is that i can neither delete the contents of my MicroSD Card nor format it. Here are the steps i took:
1) Tried deleting folders individually as well as batch-wise
2) Unmounted & Formatted SD Card from Phone
3) Connected to a PC running XP SP3 (Both in Kies & Mass Storage mode) and tried to delete / format
4) Tried both quick format as well as the total format
5) Flashed different firmwares, wiped cache/data, hard reset and then formatted
In all the above cases, when i re-checked the SD Card, i could all the original files available on the card. Surprisingly, all the folders e.g. the music/songs folder was working fine.
Deleting the folder(s) shows that the content is write-protected; therefore it is probably not letting me delete or format the contents. While searching for possible solutions i came across some (unique?) methods -
1) Flipping the "write' switch -- Not possible since i do not use an adapter and the MicroSD hasnt got one built-in
2) Taping a notch - Wasnt sure what that meant exactly
3) Try formatting the MicroSD in a Camera - Eh ?
Anyone could possibly enlighten me on how to remove the write-protection on my MicroSD w/o using any kind of external device and possibly by software manipulation only ?
I am too having this exact problem. it's a 8gb micro sdhc.
have you solved it or it was a malfunction on the card?
maybe you should try formating it in cwm?

cwm--clockworkmod recovery.
if you have extended power menu you can enter in it by that way....if not...power off phone..then...hold volume + and - together and press home key and then power on key...hold them together until samsung logo appears then let them go...phone will boot in cwm recovery mode...

the problem is that I don't have a samsung phone. only posted here because os a google search about my problem.
although I have an htc magic 32a but I don't know if I can do that here...
No, i couldnt solve the problem and replaced the card. Although my folders on the "defective" card work fine and i can even transfer them via bluetooth. I must admit i didnt try CWM wipe at that time although i did try advanced wiping softwares via PC. For flashing CWM or a CWM enabled kernel please visit your phone's sub-section on XDA. You must flash CWM on your phone, mot only to try the wipe but also to make a backup of your phone's image in case it gets corrupted and you need to restore it

Tried this on an Htc Magic with clockwork recovery installed. tried to format /sdcard but got error:
"error mounting /sdcard!
skipping format...
done"
tried also partitioning sd card but got error too.
and btw the previous filesystem is exfat so that is why it can't be mounted in android.
anyway also tried formatting in gparted and macintosh. both failed.

The camera suggestion (formatting after putting in a digital camera) did the trick for me, good idea! It gave me a new set of DCIM folders, but I can pop it into my PC now and just delete them. Seems ridiculous that my camera can do it but my PC can't.

SM-G930F SDCard write only

I have just bought an S7 (SM-G930F) after years and years with my trusty S3 9-9300...
I have rooted it and installed TWRP. Otherwise stock. Added most of my trusty apps and 64Gb SD Card.
I have an odd senario. I can access the card and I can andd and make changes to content, BUT there are some things I can not do, such as change ownership and permissions, but more importantly, I can not back up using Titanium Backup. TB says the card is fuill, but further investigation it won't allow it to store to the card. It says it is read only.
How do I fix this very annoying delema, any one, please?

Hi
did you do all the steps posted in the TWRP page , specially Wipe Data?
Well I didn't follow those steps, but I did wipe the data partition just by chance.
What do you think ithe problem is and do you think it can be fixed without yet another rebuild - I have done so many to get the phone working.

Hi
I think that the data partition is still encrypted or not totally decripted that is why you do not have full access
TWRP Op step 10
Only if you want internal storage or data to work in TWRP:
Go to [Wipe] -> [Format Data] (not advanced wipe) -> type "yes".
WARNING: This will wipe your internal storage, disable encryption, and factory reset your phone!
Go to [Reboot] -> [Recovery].
You need to format data ( no just wipe) to get full access
I would try to install again TWRP ( all steps) but of course the problem is your data will be gone
OK, but how does that help the SDCard?????
I ask as I want to make absolutly sure as I now have no backup as I had deleted all the TB files.

Hi
I think I misunderstood you , you are talking about your external SD card not the internal, right ? if so , sorry my bad .
Maybe you had already but did you try to format it again or a different root explorer?
Not yet..... Odd thing is I am sure it worked for a while, but you know how these things are...

This app may help out
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix&hl=en
* This app is likely only useful if you have a stock ROM. If you're running an aftermarket ROM like Cyanogenmod, then there is no reason to install this app (good aftermarket ROMs don't suffer from the problem that this app corrects).
Maybe....

No, did not work. Wouldn't even recognise I had a card. So reformatted it and then wiped the phone, data, etc and factory reset. And just rebooted and installing, but still same problem. Also learnt how crap the Google and Samsung backups are. Just install the apps not anything useful. Hac'd with this crap phone.

Hi
Did you see @*Detection* comments , FAT is not the same as FAT32 , format the sd card in your PC and make sure you select FAT32
SO using my rooted file explorers, the issue seems to be that SDcard is owned by root and is rwxr-xr-x and I can't change it...

Take the card out of the phone, put it in a reader and connect to PC USB
Use something like minitool partition wizard free to delete all the partitions on the card, create a new primary partition, format to FAT32
Put it back in the phone and see how you get on

Hi
+1 @*Detection*
Also you are 100% you are root ? check with something like Root Checker to make sure
I had using gParted - I use Linux machines, still the same and I re rooted several times. and via other rooted S3s. Same.
I think that this is an ownership/group issue. The mount directory is "storage" owned by root, and it is interesting the two of my root file managers see it and the card as rwx-rwx-rwx and others as rwx-r_x-r__
and I suspect that apps like TB, parted (partition manager), Apps to SD, etc. are seeing the same. However, even with the file manager apps that see full access I can not change ownership or rw privileges..... REALLY ODD!!!!!!
SOLVED!!!! Hope this helps others.
In TWRP, Advanced, File Manager.... Find the SD Card, the change the permisions to 0015 This is the SDCard Group/ownership. It all works great now.
To tidy up I need to create a new mount point in / or storage and then a line in fstab. Know how to do that in Linux/Ubuntu, but not in Android even though it is one the same.
Any helps Please?????

This application is what you need https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/apps2sd-partition-sd-card-link-apps-to-t3122919. It allows you to link apps to your sd card ext4 partition. You have to re-partition your sdcard to two partitions. First as a normal FAT32 partition and other one as a EXT4 partition.

You can but I think I have read somewhere some of them might stop working. You have to test your self what works. Also if you want more memory, installing google keyboard and deleting huawei swipe keyboard will give some extra space.

Interesting...never used the encryption feature for the sdcard ...can you take it off as there is software out there for computers that you can try and recover the pictures....that's the only way I can think of recovering them

In fact the issue is wrong. The real issue is that the sdcard stays encrypted and android tells me it cannot decrypt it because it has been encrypted on an other phone.
I haven't done a factory reset, just upgraded.
