So I noticed the other night I was able to stream a movie from my Note 10.1 to my Samsung TV. I have 2 of them, which I guess both have a built-in Allshare support. Do all new smart TV's have this and or some sort of feature? i.e. if I went to a friends and they have an LG? or would I need to get something like this?
For tv's other than samsung you need the Allshare cast hub/dongle... This allows you to use your tv set as a large screen...
Would you mind briefly sharing your method?

Connect Allsharecast hub/dongle to the TV via HDMI (turn to right channel), pair note10.1/SGS3 and see all things mobile on your TV screen....
This works on all TV's but be aware that rooted devices must have stock recovery installed to work. I've also noticed that some stock roms won't work no matter what recovery you are using....

I'm rooted with the CWM recovery and the Allshare cast works all the same (but maybe it's necessary to reset the counter with Triangle Away as I did).
Did that but wouldn't work, Back to stock recovery and it worked....
I'm on UK JB. That might make a difference. Also I found that even though I use triangle-away to reset the counter, on JB it stays on 1 every time I reboot...

Can't that be accomplished without a dongle? I swear I've seen that advertised somewhere before...

I have too, My TV is on the list of compatible devices, an LED/LCD TV from 7000 series 2011 (Samsung of course), but it just won't connect.... Might do for later TV's but after a lot of hair pulling and some absolutely useless advice from Samsung's help desk it, "You're not doing it right, that's why it won't work", I bit the bullet and got the dongle...
Works now, after some hair pulling and experimentation as I was rooted....
I even have an ES8000 model from this year and I can't get it to work. Hopefully Miracast will solve the issue if Samsung doesn't fix it on their own.

So if I want to see everithing that goes on on the tablet screen on my tv (xda for example) I need to by a dongle, but if I only want to see the movies or foto or music on the tv I don't need the dongle. I can send movies on the tv screen but I'm not able to mirror everything.

In theory, yes... In practice....?
So just an update on this on my original question. Just got a new LG 8600 Smart TV, and I guess it supports Allshare (or whatever protocol the tablet uses). I started playing a movie, hit the send to TV button and it worked on my LG. it took a little longer to load then the Samsung TV, but it worked fine.
Hi, allshare is different to allshare cast. Allshare sends your movie to the TV as data, the tv then decodes this data and actually plays the movie itself, this is done using DLNA and so any DLNA tv will work with allshare, not just sammsung TV's.
Allshare cast is a different animal altogether, its part of the miracast protocol and simply sends the picture from the phone to the TV, the decoding is done by the phone, the TV simply mirrors the video and audio. Currently the only way to get this to work is to buy the samsung allshare cast dongle. To use this simply plug it into your TV HDMI port and turn on Allshare cast option on your phone.
So I herd bad stories about these Android TV sticks, they are buggy, have performance issues and come with crappy control apps.
I am wanting to go for the following setup and it appears also more flexible, except I am not sure how good an experience I can expect.
Basically I want to do the following:
TV + PTV 3000 Miracast dongle
Nexus 7 2013 + Dock (Nexus will stand horizontally) plugged into charger.
This sounds good to me because I can get a Nexus 7 second hand for very little money, I know its a solid and supported Android device and it will double up as a tablet anytime I pull it out of the dock. I also don't need a webcam as the dock with tablet will stand on the coffee table.
However I have some questions:
- Can I install some sort of app/autorun or make a shortcut icon for the Nexus to attempt to connect automatically to the miracast dongle.
- I herd with miracast I can't switch off the Nexus 7 screen as it will kill the TV image as well. Is there an app/mode that would suppress that default ? Perhaps getting some DLNA dongle would be better ?
- I m wishing there's an app that can run whilst miracast mirroring is on, but this app is a controller app (Like keyboard and or trackpad) and the app itself does not get cloned onto the TV ! That would be awesome.
- In general will it suffice for watching HD movies without lag ? Not after gaming.
Is this possible? I recently bought a Samsung Allshare that I can run through HDMI to any TV, but it seems it'd be a simple program that I could run on my MK908ii and just be able to do the same thing. I've seen the little mirroring icon on my phone where I can watch videos and/or pics that I've got saved directly on my phone, but I'm more or less looking to be able to mirror EVERYTHING so I can watch sites like MovieDroid, Showbox, etc without having to carry the Allshare from TV to TV since one of my TV's always keeps this dongle in it anyways. I don't have internet at home (long story), otherwise I'd just run the movie apps directly from the MK908ii...before anyone asks.
Bump
New and need help please. I have not been able to get the screen casting o mirroring to work with my NVIDEA Shield Tablet WI-FI. I had Android 5.1.1. and now have 6.0 and no change. I am able to pair the two Android devices and both say connected but when I press Cast it has never indicated any available devices. Is it not able to Cast to another Android device? I am trying to screen cast to the Epson Movario BT-200 glasses which has Android 4.0.1 but also Miracast. My Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4 inch is able to screen mirror to the Epson glasses but it gets a bit laggy. So I thought the NVIDEA Shield tablet would have more power but I am not able to get the Tablet to recognize the glasses in Screen Cast even though it does recognize and even connect to the glasses over WIFI. Have tried 2.4 GHz, 5GHz, and Auto band modes. Unfortunatly there is no Android update for Epson BT-200 glasses and likely never will be. I have rooted all devices and have tried about 7 different screen mirroring apps. (Epson Glasses do not allow Google Play store without rooting and some apps won't load).
Any advice welcome. I don't mind spending the time trying. I am not really smart but I was able to get my Shield tablet out of a boot loop by flashing new .img over USB from my PC through DOS command prompts, so I can usually figure it out with time.
Miracast hasn't worked on my original shield tablet since 5.0 update. I had used a Belkin to miracast, it's firmware is current and works with W8 and W10, and several older Android devices...I think it really only casts to Google cast devices now!

Has anyone found a way to screen cast? I've seen and tried a build prop edit that at least allows cast to recognize TV but won't actually allow the screen cast to "beam" the display over. I've read android took away the native functionality at some point, but my HTC 10 worked fine. Any thoughts?

I'm running stock rooted and I can cast just fine to my Sony tv or to my apple tv just by selecting it from the devices shown without any build.prop edits.

Casting works fine for me too.
Doesnt work when using an app that prohibts it like NFL app or MLB app.
Is that what you are asking to cast?
I just go to Settings->Display->Cast.
I have tried this on stock/pureNexus/rooted/unrooted.
I have a Sony TV. Runs some version on Android.
Be on the same Wi-Fi?
I don't know what else to say.

Nope, just straight up mirror my phone screen. Never had issues with it before on any phone I tried...My son's iPhone and wife's new G6 both do it. And funny you should mention NFL Mobile, that is how I watched games on the road to n a hotel, mirroring to hotel room TV.
Edit...My bust after thinking about, it was DirecTV/Sunday ticket, never tried the NFL Mobile app.
I just tried to cast the phone's screen to my Smart TV(Sony) - didn't work.
Here are the steps I take when trying to connect Pixel phone:
-Go to WiFi Direct settings on the phone
-Put TV in screen mirror mode(input)
-TV's name/model appears on the pixel phone
-Tapping on the above name/model, just says "Invited"
-On TV's screen, under devices nothing comes up
-If I go to settings>display>cast on the pixel, there is nothing in the list. On Nexus 7 I was able to select "enable wireless display" in the menu.
I took the same steps in the past with my Nexus 7 (2013) tablet and it works properly. As a matter of fact I still have my tablet and tested just now - works fine. I believe Pixel either missing the feature or has a support for a different mirroring mode which my TV isn't compatible with. I do know that my TV works with Miracast.
I just found this tread...which seems to point out that Google possibly removed the feature.
