According to the official Snapdragon 845 specs: https://www.qualcomm.com/products/sdm845, it's capable of recording 4K up to 60fps, 1080p up to 240fps and 720p up to 480fps.
However, there are currently only 5 video recording modes available on the Mi Mix 2s: 4k 30fps, 1080p 30/240fps and 720p 30/240fps.
That means we're missing the following modes: 4k 60fps, 1080p 60/120 fps, 720p 60/120/480fps (so no 60fps modes at all).
This seems to be a software limitation from Xiaomi, as the Oneplus 6 has all the SD845 capable modes.
I've tried using Open Camera, but still cannot access any of the disabled modes (with or without Camera2 API enabled).
If anyone (or Xiaomi) could come up with a patch to enable these modes I would be delighted.
845 may be capable of it but the Mix 2S is not advertised as supporting those modes, so don't expect Xiaomi to enable them.

Seems like the devs at Xioami are a bit lazy, the device is perfectly capable of doing this also the mi6 and others are capable but they all lack 60fps. The worst thing is that this is locked so like what op says no 3rd party app is able to do it!

Well, at least the Mi6 didn't get anything more than 30fps. It's ridiculous that Mi Mix 2s gets 1080p 240fps but not 1080p 60fps.

Looks like I was mistaken that the Mi 8 has 4K 60fps. However Mi8 has 1 more video modes than Mix 2s. It has 1080p 120fps, which Mix 2s doesn't have.

Where someone posted a mod for the G2 where they enabled 4k video and 120fps recording. I am interested if we could do this on the nexus 5?
Is it a hardware limitation? I'm pretty sure the s800 can handle it and the camera can snap a picture in 8mp resolutions, so I would think you could mod it to record video in 2k, or 4k resolutions.

AFAIK, one of the developers already said that it's a hardware limitation on the Nexus 5. So, no 120fps or 2k/4k for us!

Unfortunately no, it's up to the processor
Unfortunately, there is no 4K video recording on the device. The max resolution for the Honor 8 is 1080P/60p. (NS)
i'm looking into this phone. would like to have 4k in my future phone. don't have a 4k capable monitor/tv and probably never will. even if this phone had 4k, or those that do have it like galaxy s8 and other expensive flagships, is it me or is 4k in phones overrated? i looked at s8 video and it doesn't seem like gopro or a dedicated compact cam quality. I don't know if it's me or phones have lower bitrate, worse or no stabilization or inferior something else. I don't even have 1080/60 in my phones. It would be cool to have 2k/60 but i dream. Trying to decide if i should keep using my new cheap but fast phone and get a premium 4k action cam or invest in a 4k phone.

with out the SOC support how can we record ?
It is impossibe to make honor 8 shoot 4K, basically because the chipset (kirin 950) can't record video in that resolution
It's not possible to shoot 4k but if you can convert the video to 4k using 3rd party video editor in Honor 8.
The chip probably capable of doing so but somehow restricted for business reasons like how the 'flagship' p9 couldn't do the same but other android phones with less capable soc (sd625) could.

Ho then there is a way or us we have to find
It is simply impossible, because kirin 950 isn't snapdragon 625, basically the kirin 950 doesn't support 4K video. Simple as that
But this is flag ship of honor 8 is last year flagship , if there is recording capable ,devs will updates us

Could you guys test this.
Download Open Camera, go to Settings and scroll all way down then enable camera2 api. Then open the video settings and check the video resolution options. On my phone there will be 2 additional resolutions higher than 1080p but only the top one managed to record video successfully. It's not 4k but higher than full HD though I'm not sure if it's actually recording in that resolution or simply a mistake in the camera app.

Can you try recording in these resolutions?! Tell us if it works or not
Tried it. The resolution of the file is 4k alright but the quality is either worse or on par with the stock app on 1080p/60
And without stabilization on open camera it starts lagging after a few secs.
All on auto settings and stock rom.
Though the stock file was 4 times bigger than the opencamera one so tweaking the settings might help.
Then again afaik stock has the best quality anyway so no clue what 4k would add to that. Not quality though for sure

Hi guys i have xiaomi note 5, xiaomi mi max 3 and pocophone f1.
They all have about the same camera setup, however, on note 5 and max 3 (in miui 10) i have 1080p video recording at 60fps.
And on most expensive phone with strongest chipset, pocophone, i only have 1080p @ 30fps.
That is kind of nonsense.
Is it possible to have mi max 3 camera app on pocophone? Or is there any other way to record 60fps video with poco?

BSG 6.1 ,MIUI global Beta
I guess 60 fps does not mean all the way 60 fps .
I got just 28 fps on MIUI stock camera
I have same problem with Pixel Rom, Gcam cannot recorded 60Fps VIdeo
Title
I would also like know the answer.
On MIUI 9 it was possible, everything worked great. After update (I don't know which) to MIUI 10 it's possible to record only in 1080p 30fps or 4k 30 fps
Mi 8 , Poco and mix 2s will get 4k 60fps next month
so it is not happened in the end

A video of 6 secs in 4k 60fps Is more than 100mb

I don't believe the OnePlus 7 pro can review in 10bit (x265) I don't think there is an H265 but could be wrong. The only 265 files I see for torrents is x265 and it's 10bit

You can record/covert videos in H265 or x265 without it requiring 10-bit color. There is a magisk mod for OnePlus 5 for recording in H265 and it works nicely. It's just more compressed and requires that codec on the playing machine to view, which would be included if you are able to record into it. (maybe someone will port the Magisk mod to the 7 Pro)

10bit IS x265 as there is no 10bit h264 anywhere. So if you're talking an 10bit file, it means x265. So by default I just use 10bit to explain x265. Also, there no one uses H265, it's almost all x265 so that's basically a non issue.

Yeah, it's just a guess, because I know that there was a Sony smartphone also with a cache built into the camera, and our phone uses a Sony camera. And these cache is very small, like cpu caches < 10mb
There is literally zero benefit of having a sub 10MB cache shooting 4K 60fps video.
It's solely heat-related.
It is because of heat, as others have said on this thread.
Most every other Android phone capable of recording 4k 60fps has similar limitations
