120fps recording on the nexus 5? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I saw this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548974
Where someone posted a mod for the G2 where they enabled 4k video and 120fps recording. I am interested if we could do this on the nexus 5?
Is it a hardware limitation? I'm pretty sure the s800 can handle it and the camera can snap a picture in 8mp resolutions, so I would think you could mod it to record video in 2k, or 4k resolutions.

AFAIK, one of the developers already said that it's a hardware limitation on the Nexus 5. So, no 120fps or 2k/4k for us!

It's possible ... maybe ...

[Q] Google Dev: Does Nexus S do 720p?

There are Google Devs that visit XDA right? Can one please confirm whether or not the Nexus S will do 720p. The specs say no, but I'm hoping its a typo. If not out of the box, then surely a software update will add it?
I would like to know this also
i'm not a google dev but it's confirmed that out of the box there is no 720p. Max resolution is 720x480.
However, the phone should support it since the Nexus one could and i'm pretty sure the galaxy s can as well. Hopefully within a few months (maybe weeks) of it being out with the source code people will be able to enable it.
the leaked nexus s sample video is 720p, so maybe it does have the feature.
here is the video and you can change the resolution to 720p: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM0n0H179jY&feature=player_embedded
Just throwing this out there, on the official nexus s page, it says it takes HD Video...
come on if you want to know info on a phone take at least do some HARD CORE researching lol. http://www.google.com/nexus/#!/tech-specs

Yeah it's that 720x480 spec that throws me off. I'm hoping its a typo. I did see where it said HD video. That and the youtube video testing the quality are good signs that point to 720p I guess. A confirmation and/or correction to the specs would be nice though.

Don't worry about it, it DOES have it. What make you think a (google baby) high-end, 2.3 android, 2nd phone in the nexus line won't have 720p? haha all high-end phones will be having 720p.
On their features page they have mentioned this;
The rear-facing 5 megapixel camera is capable of taking stunning pictures and HD videos that you can share with friends and family. The front-facing camera can take VGA quality images and video.

720 x 480 != 1280 x 720 != 720p
I'm hoping it's a typo, because I really want to like this phone.
Clearly the 720x480 video resolution is for the front facing camera.

(Just to avoid total typ'o'fest... 1280x720 (non-interlaced) == 720p)
720 x 480 is not VGA quality... so it may, or may not refer to the camera on the back...
It would be a GLARING mistake not to mention a functioning 720p recording on the spec sheet...

Sadly, no:
Front-facing: VGA (640x480)
From: http://www.google.com/nexus/#!/tech-specs
I Don't understand how this is even a question, we have established this is fundamentally the same phone as the current Galaxy S (I own one) which out of the box running 2.1 eclair had Full 720p support, both Video record (rear 5mp camera only) and playback, in fact it is so cool I am able to play the 720P .mkv High Def TV show downloads you see floating around on the net.
All this straight out of the box.
It will most likely be added later by google or a developer
Developers added 720p Recording to Nexus One
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6744172#post6744172
But yea kind of lame by default its not supported considering galaxy S does

Dont expect the same support on the NS those video codecs were supplied by samsung since this is Google only i wouldn't expect the same playback support the galaxy s line had .mkv...ect
Im really hoping im wrong though

Actually its:
720 x 480 != 1280 x 720 = 720p
With Nexus S, however, an unexpected trick - in contrast to the Galaxy S, he writes not 720p video, but only 720x480. This is done so as not to create competition for their product. With the same purpose removed the expansion slot and FM-radio. At the Nexus S only built an array of 16 GB, and partly a desire to operators in other markets.

Looks like a reviewer confirmed the missing 720p recording.
http://hi-tech.mail.ru/review/misc/Google_Nexus_S-rev.html (in Russian)
Even if the phone doesn't support it at the moment, I dont see why the devs here on XDA would'nt be able to add the feature considering it's essentially the same hardware as the Galaxy S..... and not to mention the devs here are awesome.

[Q] Nexus S 720p HD hack?

I know it's not true HD but is there anyway to get the Nexus One HD hack on Nexus S?
bump.........
nop.....no way....cannot be done....not possible... and search the NS forum for 720,HD recording.. there were threads like this and it was concluded its not possible....if it was you would see roms with 720p on them or something.... try LG camera from market to record with MP4 if it gives you any satisfaction.
even i used to wonder the same thing when i got my nexus s first..
no... there are 10 other threads about this.
can you link me thread please?
I know 720p isn't possible but nexus one 720p hack isn't true HD
so is there how can I do this?
And I've talked to a person on youtube who've uploaded 720p Nexus S recording
and said he's using Oxygen ROM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDjsLV4JCUw&feature=channel_video_title
his video
He says right in the comments that it is 720x480. That's not 720p. 1280x720 is.
but youtube upscaled it to hd video like how they did it with the nexus one hack.
How was that possible?
Upscaled is the key word there. It isn't true 720p. I mean look at it. It looks like a scaled low res video.
Edit: I know you said you don't want true 720p, you just want the hack. But really if it looks like crappy upscaled video, what is the point?

youtube does that for every video, it sets it in different p's but its not true 720p.

How to: Enable Widescreen photos with Camera???

I absolutely hate 4:3 photos/video. In the camera settings native max resolution is 3264x2448 (tunnel vision). With my S4 I was getting 4128x2322 (widescreen).
How do you enable widescreen photos with the Nexus 5 !?!!?

i'm going to bump this because I have the same question & didn't want to start a new thread. Yes there is a 2MP 16:9 option, but let's be real, that's pointless
I know that in CM roms (and possible other custom roms) have this, but is there a way, via modification of camera apk or other similar method of allowing more widescreen resolutions??

Thank you, seen it, but there's only 720p option in the stock app.
same here. I rad many review this is 1080p but in my Opo there is upto 720p.
someone explain this.

Is there a way to have 4K video recording?

With root or something?
Thanks!

Unfortunately no, it's up to the processor
Unfortunately, there is no 4K video recording on the device. The max resolution for the Honor 8 is 1080P/60p. (NS)
i'm looking into this phone. would like to have 4k in my future phone. don't have a 4k capable monitor/tv and probably never will. even if this phone had 4k, or those that do have it like galaxy s8 and other expensive flagships, is it me or is 4k in phones overrated? i looked at s8 video and it doesn't seem like gopro or a dedicated compact cam quality. I don't know if it's me or phones have lower bitrate, worse or no stabilization or inferior something else. I don't even have 1080/60 in my phones. It would be cool to have 2k/60 but i dream. Trying to decide if i should keep using my new cheap but fast phone and get a premium 4k action cam or invest in a 4k phone.

with out the SOC support how can we record ?
It is impossibe to make honor 8 shoot 4K, basically because the chipset (kirin 950) can't record video in that resolution
It's not possible to shoot 4k but if you can convert the video to 4k using 3rd party video editor in Honor 8.
The chip probably capable of doing so but somehow restricted for business reasons like how the 'flagship' p9 couldn't do the same but other android phones with less capable soc (sd625) could.

Ho then there is a way or us we have to find
It is simply impossible, because kirin 950 isn't snapdragon 625, basically the kirin 950 doesn't support 4K video. Simple as that
But this is flag ship of honor 8 is last year flagship , if there is recording capable ,devs will updates us

The ISP in the Honor 8 can't record 4K video, simple as that. It's not an update thing, it's a hardware limitation.

Could you guys test this.
Download Open Camera, go to Settings and scroll all way down then enable camera2 api. Then open the video settings and check the video resolution options. On my phone there will be 2 additional resolutions higher than 1080p but only the top one managed to record video successfully. It's not 4k but higher than full HD though I'm not sure if it's actually recording in that resolution or simply a mistake in the camera app.

Can you try recording in these resolutions?! Tell us if it works or not
Tried it. The resolution of the file is 4k alright but the quality is either worse or on par with the stock app on 1080p/60
And without stabilization on open camera it starts lagging after a few secs.
All on auto settings and stock rom.
Though the stock file was 4 times bigger than the opencamera one so tweaking the settings might help.
Then again afaik stock has the best quality anyway so no clue what 4k would add to that. Not quality though for sure
