Has anyone either unlocked a S5 or flashed (Via Odin) another carriers firmware and had success?
in this case a co-worker of mine destroyed his Metro Pcs phone, and my other co-worker has a Sprint Galaxy S5 in perfect condition collecting dust he offered him. I know the Sprint phone not only has the CDMA radios in it for its network but also every other radio the Tmobile variant has as well (same GSM and LTE bands) So in theory should work fine.

Your best bet is to post this question within the following Q&A thread that's specific to the S5 and variants.

I just received a brand new Verizon Galaxy S III by pure luck, I've been searching all day on how to get this thing to work on my AT&T Sim with no luck. I can't even find an unlock service for this model.
I've Modded many AT&T phones and returned them to stock. I'm very familiar with Odin, rooting, roms and flashing back to stock but this Verizon (model) Galaxy S III is kicking my butt.
Can this Verizon model be flashed with an AT&T image? I was under the assumption the Galaxy 3 phones (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint Etc.) are identical? They all share CMDA and GSM in one piece of hardware? Or am I wrong?
Just looking for some direction here. Thanks.
Your first step should be switching the phone to work on GSM, after that possibly flashing the at&t stock rom or something..
Wish i could offer more.

While i agree with the switching to GSM, which has been done for international service but not ATT as far as i remember, i would not recommend flashing ATT roms. believe this will perma-brick your shiney new phone.
Check out the Verizon Development thread for the GSM international service.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809314 might be of some help. Recall a thread about a guy getting voice and text working on ATT with their SIM but not data. I'm sure you can find that one too with a little searching. Good luck!
Hi experts,
Here on xda-developers, I read, that if we get the Samsung Galaxy S3, with the Exynos Processors, the APNs can be modified and can be used as a World Phone.
That means, if we are in the US we can use Verizon 4G LTE Network.
If we go to Europe, we can use the local SIM Card and use the local 4G LTE even from a GSM or a CDMA provider.
Here are my questions.
1. Is this possible? Is the information true?
Here is the link for that.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/port-us-galaxy-s-iii-roms-to-other-variants/
If this is possible, can the same be applied to the Snap Dragon Processors?
Swapping the Samsung Galaxy S3 between different carriers, Is this possible?
From Verizon to use it with AT&T and vice versa?
2. There is also a thread which shows that, the Galaxy S3 can now be booted from a SD Card.
Here is the link for that.
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...ader-released-for-galaxy-s-iii-galaxy-camera/
If that is possible, can the Bricked G3 Phones from Verizon or AT&T can be reused?
Thanks a lot for the answers and sharing of Your wisdom on this.
Peace,
A J.
I'm travelling to Canada next week and am buying a $10 micro SIM card and a $20 prepaid plan from Rogers Wireless.
One of the Verizon Global support team people I spoke to on the phone said that the S3 will work the way you want as long as it has the latest stock JB OTA update. (That's the 4.1.1 / VRBLK3 update for anyone reading this in the future). Most importantly, the patch unlocks the phone to use on foreign carriers, so I was told I was already good to go without any added steps on Verizon's part or mine.
Of course, I'm running a rooted version of VRBLK3. Don't know if that affects global capability, but I'll let you know if this works for me or not in British Columbia.
i dont know if you will get full capabilities in terms of data signal but i know i can get call the text to work. depends on what frequencies the phone has or allows you to have.
look here for some related info.

Reporting back - I was able to get voice service in Canada with a Rogers Wireless SIM, but no data. The pohne couldn't register an APN - couldn't manually enter any information into it either.
So there you go.
how is the 4g service in Canada?

You needed to download "APN Manager Pro" to edit your APN's as per the Global roaming thread in the dev section. You would have had data to some extent had you done this.
I unlocked my S4 and gave it to a friend of mine. She tried to put it on Mobilicity but she was told that it wouldn't work. She also tried putting it on WIND and they said it didn't work. I call BS on this, but, my question is this.
I bought an unlock code for the phone from Telus. Is it possible this unlock code only unlocks the phones for the major Canadian carriers (Bell, Telus and Rogers) not every carrier? I know my S3 I unlocked, took it to Europe and it worked fine on 3. I have no issue rooting and unlocking the S4 our way but if the Telus way didn't work I want my 35 dollars back.
The Telus S4 and the Wind/Mobilicity S4 are two different models - I337M and M919V. The main difference between the two is that the M919V is set up such that it can use AWS. So if you have unlocked your Telus S4, it will not work on Wind/Mobilicity.
...but...
You can enable AWS on your Telus S4. Check the forums...there is a thread explaining how to do it. "How to enable AWS on your I337/I337M" or something like that.
Good luck!

Gheez, I just talked to AT&T and they refused to unlock my S4 because I'm still under contract for another year.
So I tried Region Lockaway by Chainfire:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.regionlockaway&hl=en
But it complained about something like a "CSS" code.
Could be because I'm on GPE ROM and not stock ROM.
Oh well.

Shame. I traveled to London 3 months after purchasing my S4 (on official US release date), and AT&T provided the unlock code for free. Granted, my phone wasn't rooted yet. Either way, I'd try calling AT&T again and hopefully it's just a matter of getting a better AT&T rep. I was also in a 2-year contract...
Ask for the carrier unlock r phone when u still under contract is almost like lottery
Most can't get it unlocked, however u always see someone that got the phone unlocked
Previously on the S4 I came to the conclusion I could use the international variant of it on Verizon as it had the proper CDMA bands for the job, is this the same case with the S6? Could I buy the international one that is unlocked and use it on VZW network without problems and if I have them what would they be? Going to do my own homework of course but I always want XDA's opinion on things like this.

I was actually in the process of typing up this thread myself! I am also interested in the answer to this one. And can the international version be rooted? I need me some Greenify!
Edit: After speaking to a Verizon rep online, I was told "In theory, it should work; but we cannot guarantee device usability and stability from non-verizon devices".
Any other XDA thoughts?

The International one is fully bootloader unlockable and rootable from the start, hence why I want it over this locked down one. Though someone suggested to me in a PM to post this in the international forum so I will try that and update here with whatever results I get.

From what I could find it won't work because it's GSM and won't work with CDMA carriers. Here is a link to the info I found.
I remember reading that the Verizon and Sprint variants have a separate Qualcom modem in them to connect to their CDMA and LTE bands.
I have the US Verizon Galaxy S6 as well as my wife now. Currently in Cancun using a popped in TelCel SIM card seeing crazy 4G speeds on the hotel strip area.
So yea. The S6 from Verizon is killer with foreign SIMs.

Can i ask what this has to do with OPs question?
Sorry I just reread the post and thought it was referencing using the vzw version abroad.
You can delete my post if it offends you that much. Was just trying to help because I just went through the process of using it in Mexico for the first time.
It's not that big of a deal, I just thought I was missing something
No worries here ...
Any answers yet? Thanks.
Just want to let you all know the international version will not work on Verizon.
I have one was going to sell on craigslist and we met at verizon and it will not recognize the mobile network.
Im still trying to sale this thing lol
I have a Note 8 I purchased from and used on Verizon when I lived in the US. Now I'm in Germany with a T-Mobile sim card in the phone and I'm having issues.
My phone is unlockd but won't update (Verizon phone on T-Mobile). Every time the phone restarts, it tells me I don't have a Verizon sim card. The voicemail app and a few other Verizon specific things don't work.
After some research, I understand why it won't update but I don't know which way to go to fix this. I have never jailbroke or flashed a phone before but figure that's where this is headed. I'm wary of bricking the phone but am pretty good at following instructions and figuring things out.
My priority is getting the Note 8 updating but I'd also like to remove/fix the Verizon specific issues too.
Any help, advice, links or whatever would be appreciated.
