Pixel black screen but responsive? - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hi,
Sorry if this is the wrong place, but my Pixel was working fine last night but suddenly the screen won't come on. The phone itself however works as I can use the fingerprint reader and I can feel it vibrate etc. (note that I've rebooted, so I can't get in without a pin.)
Anyone else had this, or any ideas why? I've just bought this phone as well

Same thing happened to mine. You need a screen replacement. About $130.

Nexus 5 Black Screen, But Still Working

So my Nexus 5 (a couple months ago) has started to just randomly go black. I get notifications and stuff, and the backlight but no display. Not sure what to do or what part to replace. Would flashing/rooting help at all?
Appears to be a hardware problem.
Was the phone every dropped or exposed to water/moisture? Possible loose connection inside?
No way to tell for sure if the phone needs a new screen unless you are able to test the motherboard in another N5.

It's been dropped a couple times but not like any major drops or anything. Im pretty sure I checked all the connections inside and they were good. Im starting to figure out that the phone has to be off for a little bit then I have to charge it and turn it on and it works again
Sounds like it could be a damaged lcd or lcd connection. If it can work after being charged while powered off, could be battery or USB flex cable issue.

Ya I figured out I have to reboot it a bunch of times then it will work
I think it might be the battery because this is my dad's old phone so it's been in use for a solid 3 years.. I wish I knew for sure though
So I have discovered that if my screen is on for a while the task bar at the bottom starts to shift up and down
Have you found out more about this? I think I have the same problem. My phone never turns black while I use it. But when the screen is off/sleeping, it sometimes won't turn on again. So a force reboot fixes it. Sometimes this happens a lot, some times it works fine a whole day.

So what your saying is to try the rom and see if it fixes it? Can I have a link or something, I don't know much about roms

Maybe, I don't think so. My phone was useless, black screen on every screen unlock. But namelessrom took that away, so that tip about nameless was for those who have the same black screen I had earlier. But now I have the same black screens as you do. Anyway, if you want to try it out, nameless-rom.org

Happens with my nexus too. The screen goes blank randomly ..... But i have managed to deal with it.
Its happan to me also, with 4 nexus 5 of my family.
Is a firmware problem?
I'm trying to buy a new flex cable to see if it will help I'll update when I find out
You're replacing the USB charging flex cable? If you are, be careful with cheap third-party replacements as I have read reports of people having issues with charging, signal, or speaker functionality after installing the cable.

Ya so i sent it to LG finally and the diagnostic said that it was a flex cable issue which I was sure that it was anyway but I have a confirmation now
I've had a similar problem when my display suddenly started failing. First, there was colourful bands over the working display, then colourful static only and then black with backlight only. Bought a new phone, left it for a year and today after digging in the phone for a while I found a fix. The connection between the motherboard (the top bit) and the daughter board (the bit below battery with USB and connection to display) was somewhat loose and when pressed on, the display worked beautifully. I stuffed the insides with some tape to maintain pressure on the connection and phone works great.
Might not work for your problem, but it's worth a try if you're out of warranty and have tools to disassemble the phone.

Touchscreen issues

Ok read the other posts but having touchscreen issues with the phone running Resurrection remix latest ROM. Only happened over last days and I cannot remember dropping it.
Its the middle part of the screen that sometimes do not respond.
Its 3 years old and has served me well but just wondering if there is any fix or is it time to upgrade?

Was working fine and then suddenly the middle of the screen not responding?
Not sure if its a hardware issue as restored to a previous version and same issue.
Is there any fix?
Was working and then suddenly just stopped responding to the middle part of the screen. Resorted back to back up and same issue
Is this a hardware issue and is there any fix?
Anyone helped here or is the phone Fubarred?
As getting annoying. Was going to try a factory reset but not sure if it can be fixed by this. Is there any fix like replacing screen or is that cash down the drain?
cheers

They must be replaced in combo.Even if there's a way to separate them,it might not be the best idea.

I registered just to respond to you and let you know that replacing the screen did not work for me.
I bough this phone online a few months back but gave up on it because it was literally unusable due to ghost touch inputs. I have since installed LineageOS and completely replaced the old screen and STILL get ghost inputs along the whole right edge of the phone.
Some people say it's due to an issue with the grounding of the screen. I've tried many solutions and the touches still seem random.

Black Mi Mix 3 Screen

Hey all, I recently purchased a used Mi Mix 3 online. Unfortunately once I plugged it in and charged it I found that the screen of the phone does not work. It's simply black.
The phone itself works as I can hear the wake up sounds as well as the sounds when you open the camera.
What's going on here? Is the screen itself toast or is it the operating system? What options do I have here to get it working again? I did some research and I found that it could be an issue with the global firmware, but I have no way of accessing the phone to unlock the bootloader or enable USB debugging.
Any help here is much appreciated.
If its possible, sent back to the seller. If not, then there is nothing to do except asking xiaomi. they will probably say: contact the seller.

Absolutely nothing. I'm starting to think it's just the screen, some users report touch functions working but mine do not.

Green and purplish screen?

This is what my son's One Plus 7pro screen looked like one morning. No physical damage just unreadable display. I hooked up a HDMI cable to a monitor and it displays fine so it's not software. Touches are responsive and I have called customer support with no solution. I did a factory reset and it still had the issue so definitely not software related. Didn't use the phone for about three days and now it's working fine. Am I going to have this issue again? Anyone heard of this problem with a purple and greenish display?
Probably something wrong with the LCD or LCD cable
Looks like screen burn-in to me.

In that case it's probably a faulty ribbon cable or something similar, can't see much more from what info we have
(Also, do ask if he had left the display on for a long time, maybe overnight, on high brightness. If so, it's a burnt screen.)

Heya, I have the exact same issue with my One Plus 7t Pro. The screen looks exactly like that and is perfectly responsive (except the fingerprint reader can't recognise my finger) but unusable due to the discolouration. Did you ever discover what the issue was? Did you send it off for repair?

One Plus customer service said they would repair but I couldn't get a ticket created because I bought it through Sprint. Weird loop of going back and forth through both companies. I did a factory reset and the issue didn't fix but twice it fixed itself. The first didn't last too long before the problem came back. The second time it just fixed itself and has been working fine since. My son was sleeping with it at not listening to music and I think it was a heat issue. After factory resetting it and turning it off, I let it sit there for about a day then when I powered it back on, everything was fine. Has been working great ever since. I make sure he doesn't have it on his bed at night anymore. My guess is it's heat or too much pressure on the screen. No way of figuring it out. Not sure if that info will help you or not. I would contact one plus support.

Heya,
Thanks for getting back to me quickly. I also purchased through a third party, so I have contacted them regarding repairs. Did your son mention anything regarding water damage or was this not a concern? I'm feeling a little more confident that it is repairable, cause it looks pretty scary!
I thought about water damage he did have it in the bathroom while taking a hot shower.

Ghost touching (phone doing random things by itself)

Hello, yesterday I received my phone. For the first hour it was working fine. But later, when I locked the phone I couldn't enter my password or shut down because phone started touching random things by itself. Did a factory reset but after that I can't even setup the phone because it doing random things by itself. Tried to discharge the phone and leave it overnight. But the next day it was the same story. I even peeled of screen protector but no luck. I think it's not system related issue, might be that I got the faulty one with bad touchscreen? Has anyone had this issue?
Mine doesn't has any touch issues. Seems a manufacturing defect, better off exchanging/returning it.

The problem is that I bought it overseas and returning it back would take very long because of the corona I"m wondering what's the problem could be, touchscreen or something more serious like motherboard. If it only screen I might change it by myself
Return it under warranty. The second you open it that is gone and if the problem persists, then you are screwed...
Not only have you lost the purchase price of the phone but the cost of the replacement screen too which generally aren't cheap...

from where is your phone region? it can happen from many possibilities. maybe from the kernel. You can try to flash using miflash according to the firmware region.
or try to enter stock recovery, is it random touch or not. (vol + & power)
new phone is still a warranty, it's good to go to a xiaomi service center
My case was, when the phone was brand new power button was stucked . But after using it few times, everything was fine. It didn't happen again

In my case it was faulty digitizer, after replacament everything is fine. I bought it overseas so no international warranty, but seller refunded me half the price. I went for the screen replacment and after that everything works fine.
