I have a Nvidia Shield Tablet K1. With official updates 5.3 & 5.4 having battery life problems even rooted, I am looking for a ROM to help/fix the battery life. I tried LineageOS 14.1 but it seems to suffer the same problems. Right now I am testing Dirty Unicorns 12.0 ROM (Oreo 8.1) which I installed and rooted with magisk that makes Google Play services able to be battery optimized. I am using Hibernation Manager to hibernate the CPU and all apps. Also, using Kernel Tookit for CPU governor. I have set all apps to not use mobile data. If I get any major problems, I will install official update 5.2.
For any Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 users: What is the best ROM and or official update that gives the best battery life and has little to no problems

Lineage 14.1. It does not have the battery issues of stock 5.3 and 5.4. I get 6 hours of SOT with it compared to under 2 hours with stock 5.4.

I was using an app that I've been using for about a year and it uses very little resources and the screen would get warm. It lasted only 2 hours. One cpu core would peg to 100% ever so often. So far Dirty Unicorns is way better and more stable.

Oreo ROMS on the Shield Tablet do not have hardware decoding enabled so watching HD video or playing some game games are impossible. This is why most people are not using them. There are no Oreo ROMs including Lineage 15 that are as stable as the Nougat ROMs
Lineage 14.1 comes out once a week every Saturday night. Updating is optional since it's 100% stable.

I am able to playback 720 HD YouTube , 1080p get choppy and Netflix video doesn't work. I am going to put a clean install of LineageOS 14.1 back on. I found out that the app Lifelink was causing battery drain. Others and I have reported it to the developer to fix it. How do you update LineageOS without losing data? I tried once and it got stuck on the boot animation.

After you clean install it, don't flash future updates in TWRP. Use the built in updater: Settings>About Tablet>LineageOS Updates. You can also turn on noticitaions when an update is available and just click on it. Both these ways will not delete your data.
Is flashing Lineage the only way to get decent performance out of a k1 now? I get lag spikes all the time and the system lags to a near crawl if I do anything when downloading and installing apps from the Play Store. Currently running stock 7.0

You can try other ROMs too. I'm sure most of them will be better than stock. Nvidia did something to the last 2 stock updates that has killed battery life. I get 3x the battery life with Lineage.

I need to do my research and see what issues/bugs the LineageOS builds have. I looked into the nightlys for the Axon 7 and there are too many issues/bugs (mostly audio related) for me to want to go through with flashing it.
Do most of the other ROMs pre-rooted? I've moved away from rooting and will not use a ROM with it baked in
Hello, good morning people. First of all excuse my English. I have been running my Shield Tablet for 3 years (replaced, that is, the old one) today I was given to turn it on and I wanted to install some ROM. Up to now, I have only Flashe Install SuperSU and Nomoreota. I am currently in 5.1.1. Should I install another ROM so that Nvidia does not kill my tablet? or with what I did is enough to be able to use it?

The one I currently like is this one : https://forum.xda-developers.com/sh...rom-hyperstock-mra58k-shield-k1-v1-5-t3522897
It's the latest stock 5.4.1 rom modified to be much nicer and still works with all the official Nvidia apps/games, and uses Magick instead of SuperSU (much nicer/cleaner and allows for modules to be installed), debloated but with also a lot of useful features added.
You'll need at least the 5.3 stock installed before you can flash the custom rom (it relies on the firmware that gets installed with 5.3)
The other option is LineageOS 14.1 (Android 7.1.x) ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/sh...rom-hyperstock-mra58k-shield-k1-v1-5-t3522897 ) , I mainly had trouble getting bluetooth to work (though there's apparently a work around for that on page 81 ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78823581&postcount=801 ) which I haven't tried because I'm already liking the above Stock+ rom with all the features enabled (including hardware acceleration), I might do a TWRP backup of everything and give it another go in a little bit and test.
There seems to be too much missing from any Oreo roms available, I'm hopeful, but doesn't look like the Shield is ever going to go past 7.0 officially that is (which is a big factor in how easy it is to make custom roms for it with full compatibility/features).

Hi,
What is the latest most updated ROM versions there is for TF101?
Did 4.2.2 JB came out already? Or is it still 4.1.2?
I'm still with 4.03 ICS by Revolver and there's not apparent update of this ROM brand.
I'm more interested in modified stock ROM's than CM based ROM's.
Thanks

Asus has not gone past 4.0.3 (build 9.2.1.27) and it has been over 6 months. I have heard rumors they have abandonned it.
If you want to go to JB, you will have to go with a CM, Paranoid Android, AOSP or AOKP build.
I will say this - IT IS SO WORTH IT! It is so much smoother and such.
I was running the TeamEOS 3 (4.1.X builds) and switched to the PA/CM10 hybrid last fall. Loved the PhabletUI over the tablet UI.
TeamEOS 4 came out with (4.2.X builds) and I jumped over to that. It is fully functoinal for what I use (including BT HID and GPS). No issues for me.
I had the 4.1.2 from MattmanWRX on my TF101 and showed it to a Stock Infinity user and he swore up and down my tablet was smoother and more fluid than his (with 2x the horsepower).
All of the 4.1.X and 4.2.X ROMs that I have run (TeamEOS, LiquidSmooth, MattmanWRX and the RaymanFX 4.2 0.8.0) had full keyboard dock support if you have that.
Keep in mind, 4.2.X is a PhabletUI, no tablet interface available. If you want the Tablet UI, stick with 4.1.X.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I had no idea they didn't go past 4.0.3.
Several of the main features that are important to me is fully functional HDMI output, Direct WiFi, Overclocking and playing HD content smoothly.
Can you tell which ROM will provide me with these function bug-free?
Thanks a bunch!

I cannot comment on WiFi Direct or HDMI, but OC to 1.4 is very good. Some tablets get RR and SoD with 1.5 and higher.
No issues with video playback.
My suggestion - backup using titanium backup, install TWRP from GooManager. Backup your current ROM, then install TeamEOS 4. Be sure to wipe cache, Davlik, format system and factory reset from TWRP.
Restore apps with TB and see if it works.
If not, wipe and restore your Revolver.

TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) is a different style of recovery. It is touch based, has a file manager and a terminal emulator in it. I like it because it can reliably access both internal and microSD storage (no SD or USB).
Also, nandroid backups grab the kernel (CWM on the TF101 do not backup the kernel).
TWRP 2.3.2.3 is required for Android 4.2 ROMs because of the new file structure for multiple users. It will flash fine the first time with other (and older TWRP) but when you update, your data starts getting in nested folders in the /sdcard/.
Another thing, when you go to wipe, ALL of the wipes are in one are instead of spread around like in CWM.
You can also set it up to flash up to 10 files at a time.
I will say that TWRP does not seem to like ARHD, but it has worked fine with Revolver, and all the other 4.1 and 4.2 ROMs I have tried.

I use HDMI (without audio so I can't confirm it works), it's overclocked to 1.5GHz and I'm playing 720p mkv scene releases in MX Player without issues. Can't say about Direct Wifi, I don't use that. All on Team EOS's latest 4.2.1 (haven't made the jump to 4.2.2 yet).
Guys, thank you so much for helping out. I will start to check these things out!

Thats exactly what im looking for. I have had little success playing 720p mkv on my device with no lag. I upgraded my TF101 last night to cyanogenmod 10 v6 and it worked great for a little while, even playing videos well with little to no lag. I played with it last night for a couple of hours and installed many apps and settings. I powered it down before i went to bed and now it will not get passed the unlock screen. Its completely unresponsive at the lock screen. Any Ideas? Do i need to flash it to another ROM?

Why would you install something as old as RaymanFX's CM10 v0.6?
Running that, I would recommend upgrading to something newer anyway. There has been updates to that CM10-ROM if you prefer something similar (see the nightly builds), and there has been CM10.1 builds which are equally stable and functional.
My CM10.1 is pretty good and does 720p just fine at 1.4GHz

After browsing the web last night for a while, as i am unfamiliar with android customization, i found a few instruction outlines that pointed me to repositories with builds. That was the newest build i could find on those repositories. I realize now that it is old and have learned a lot about the mods.
I will download the one you are suggesting and seeing how that goes. I appreciate your response!
Glad to hear that, that is the one thing that has not pleased me so far with my transformer. I really want to play 720p rips of movies/shows.
Hi everyone, so, i JUST got a New G3 2 days ago, and i have it unlocked, there is just too many Roms and they are not really sorted to know which is optimized best for what. tho i have the 2Gb Variant, it does noticeably lag in the UI and general use, and that's worrying me because the phone is still brand new, i only have TWO apps installed (whatsapp & instagram) and when i open whatsapp for example, i just see a white screen for like 3 seconds before it opens, instagram also works fine for like 3 min, but if i just scroll down too far a while, it starts lagging horribly then force close, i had 5.1 LP, then upgraded to MM 6.0, it was even slower and worse battery, so i downgraded back to 5.1, so i want to get a custom Rom but a light Rom to help with performance best than anything else.
thanks in advance.
Try Cyanogenmod 13 first. It's the "barebones" experience if you couple it with Opengapps Pico or Nano. That's what I use on my 1Gb variant and it works splendidly. The battery usage can be minimized with some apps like Amplify and Greenify. (Look for "Extreme battery guide" on XDA, there's a really good guide there)
Try Krexus-CAF it's lightweight and fast
Any aosp based ROM + firekernel + govtuner (avoid cyanogenmod) and I lf you want to have an adventure install microG (lightweight replacement for gapps)

Not disagreeing with you... But there are no roms for the G3 or Turbo that are not borrowing the rom core from CM, except modified stock roms. They may say "AOSP" but the core is borrowed from CM and everything else is built on top of it.
Personally, I would love to see Purity, Chroma, or Plain-Andy make it to our device, but knowing they would still have an underlying CM base is almost insulting.

So I've been using the SultanOS CM based rom on my OPO and I really want to switch to a 7.1 based version of Android.
A few questions I have are:
1. Are the nightly builds ready and daily driver material like CM was and like SultainOS is?
2. Does it come pre-rooted or not? I personally prefer no Root to be added to the ROM itself so things like Google Pay and certain games I play work no problem.
All other 7.1 roms came pre-rooted so I ended up not using them (tried un-rooting them too but it didn't work since it was hardwired into the OS)

1. Yes, i'm using LineageOS with Boeffla Kernel and i never got any problem. I'm using ressurection remix before i switch to LinOS. So far so good. It lacks of customization but it's the best 7.1.1 i've ever use. The battery performance is great also. Before i sleep, i leave my phone 100% (With wifi, sync on, with instagram snapchat whatsapp twitter and line apps). I wake up with 97% battery.
2. I think it's not pre-rooted. If you want root, you need to download SU Addon in https://download.lineageos.org/extras and then flash it via recovery. Download the ARM version, not x86 nor ARM64

I use BlissPop for my GTN8013 and I love it. But, for some reason on high demanding games (like FarmVille), it causes the game to be laggy even when overclocked, when other ROMs don't have this issue. I've considered going back to AndroidRevolution ROM (which is on KitKat), but it requires so many different things to even get it to boot.
But yes, I would recommend BlissPop. It's no longer getting updates, but it's the only stable one I've seen for the N8013.
IMO there is no better custom ROM out there than CM13 for this device....add a new battery and CM13 and you have a tablet that runs more efficiently than most current devices!

Hello friends, thanks for taking the time for reading this.
I recently bought a Moto G3 second hand and had previously installed Lineage OS. And I have been having heating and fast battery drainage issues and i would like to know if reverting to stock can help me with that before sending it to repair.
I have three questions. How can I know that i have stock kernel? and if not, where can I find it so I can flash it?
And, if I flash the factory image, I can leave twrp untouched or i must flash custom recovery?
Thanks again.
Edit: Could it be that it has stock Gapps Package? Just trying to find the origin of the problem.

Install offitial lineage os with nano or pico gapps. Origin can be you are running extra apps if using larger gapps or some app may be causing issue which can be located in battery section which app using more batty or cpu in background

Hey, thanks for answering.
While I was waiting for an answer, I've tried: 1) clean install lineage with the smallest gapps package possible. 2) Trying Greenify and Coolify apps. 3) Installing a custom kernel and tweaking it with Audiutor. None of these have helped at all.
When is Idle the phone temperature range is between 35-39 C and with use is between 40-44 C. The battery last 10 hours or less if I dont use it at all, 6-8 hours depend on usage. The apps that get the most battery are Screen, Android os and play services.
My questions are: 1) Those temperatures/battery time are normal for this device or are they a common malfunction in hardware? (Maybe like S4 mini and Nexus 5x with emmc) 2) There's a chance that with the stock firmware I can get better battery time and less heat? (I've seen reviews that this model could get to the 2 days without charge, don't know if that's true).
I have had either a Nexus 5x and a Moto G1 and they never felt so hot when in use. I don't wanna send it to repair just yet because in my country there aren't official motorola stores and I don't want them opening the screen and ruining the water resistance unless that's the last resort.
Sorry for the wall of text. Thanks in advance.
Hey, I also face the same issues with some custom ROMs . iam using moto g3 2gb ram. I also flashed lineage OS 14. I also had the battery heating problem . but for others they have no issues. I almost flashed all nougat ROMs . I face this issue with some other ROMs too. I always do clean flash, with small gapps. I can't use some best ROMs out there as my daily driver because of this battery issue. Please help
Do you face the same issue with the stock ROM? Which ROMs have you tried? The heating is only in the battery or CPU as well? How much does your battery lasts?
I never tied stock . Iam using AICP ROM now it has no such problems. I had issues with aosp extended and dot os and some Oreo roms too. As u said I am also having 2 to 3 hours more battery drain
Should I try AICP? How much does it solve that problem? I think I've made a makeshift solution with kernel adiutor and lineage stock kernel disabling a core and under locking a bit the others and with a couple of powersaving governor's it doesn't heat as much and the performance it's not too unbearable, but the battery drain hasn't improved as much.
If anyone could shed some light on what could be happening I would be truly grateful.
Yes do try AICP, viperOS or RR works well for me and are stable .. I also tried custom kernel with lineageOS. But didn't solve battery draining . I don't understand why it happens to only some rom.

Ok, I've tried and I'm updating.
RR doesn't make my phone heat less and the battery keeps draining also AOSP 8.0. Seems like my problem isn't software related. I've yet to try the stock ROM so I can know for sure.
Thanks for the suggestion mate.
Bro then there might me some other issues that is not related with custom ROMs . Do check flashing stock ROM with out root, and I hope someone more experienced might help you
