Agreed, coming from the V30, it is not very reliable, it misses quite a few double taps for me as well =( if they only had kept the always on display, that would probably help. Removing this feature was very silly from OP, they should at least leave a switch and let the user decide...
My gf has been complaining a lot about this to me too, however I've yet to have it miss any double taps.
Hopefully its software and not hardware related.
Its definitely more of a double... triple... quadruple tap most of the time for me. Its as if when in a deeper sleep state it doesn't respond to double tap.
I sent a bug report to oneplus. I hope other people do the same!

I have noticed this as well. It usually doesn't work the first time. It has been a bit better with pocket mode off though.
It's really random. Sometimes after my phone idles for 8 hours overnight, double tap will work flawlessly. Sometimes, after just 3 minutes, I will need like 4 double taps.

Settings/battery/ 3dots at top right/ advanced optimization / turn them off. That solved the problem for me.
They told me they have fixed it (that was with Android 8) and it was better. But now and Android 9 it's worse than ever. My wife's OP5 works perfectly.

The problem with double taps is they have to be precisely in the same spot. Otherwise, there's a chance that they don't work.
This is a bug that OP should have fixed a long time ago.

its not really about being lazy. consider trying to toggle data while riding a bike(and i know its not recommended but there are times when such things need to be done) u need to take your sight off the road twice. does that sound safer than one click?

I think that toggling data is less important than life. At road you can not risk yours and others life just for the sake of some messages no matter how much important are they. You can stop your bike or car to side n do whatever you want.
You should not be endorsing such thing at XDA mate

you are both very smart people i just gave an example where a quick toggle was good idea. there are certainly more occasions where it is handy. its just that the above was the first thing that came to my mind.
Since this went OT.
Two clicks increases entropy compared to one click. Which means with one click our universe will live little longer even if by ato second.
In short lazy people save universe
Now I understand how there are so many sh***ty interfaces.

In 7.12.27 the latest oreo build you can toggle mobile data just with 1 click on notification bar.

I don't use face unlock so I don't know about that.
Double tap on AOD screen, apply fingerprint, boom your in. Works great.

If you could screen record your AOD settings and post it to YT or here in the group I'd owe you big time. I couldn't get the sloppy UI to work for my OP and it gave me a headache so I just gave up. Maybe a how to video on YT would be amazing. TIA if you get a chance

I gave it a try after learning about it from reading this thread and overall it's great, except for one flaw...
I like having lift to wake so I can use my fp to get into my phone. This AOD requires a double tap to wake.

I found this used about 30%+ of my battery yesterday when I had it on all the time, heh. Also automatic face unlock (where you hit the side button and it auto unlocks) does not seem to work but you can still double tap then hit the face unlock button. Seems like at that point you would just use the fingerprint unlock. It does have a lift to wake option but I could never get it working (the AOD would never turn on when the feature was enabled). I ended up setting it to only be on when the phone is charging and works great on my charging dock so I can see important stuff while in bed. It is a beta so hopefully there will be some improvements in the future.

Yeah if this app switched over to the stock ambient display on lift, it would be the perfect AOD solution in my opinion.

Its a good app but sadly auto lock dont work and also when the AOD is activated, it messes up the phone's screen on time as well because it's taken into account. Used the premium version for quite sometime now

No battery drain at all! Now if you left your phone with the edge lighting going for a "long" time....not sure. But as it is I have no battery drain at all from this app.

Edit: Resolved - For over 10 years, I have been using the BACK button to close activities. All of them. When I want to return to the launcher, I just press BACK from withing the given app until I get 'back' to the launcher. Why wouldn't I do this? It's how you close an app. Well, I hit the HOME button instead of using BACK to exit the app gracefully like I do for all other apps I run.. and.. AOE works. I don't get it. I'm not much of an Android developer, and I hate everything Google has done to Android in the last 5 years, but what gives here? I assume (and I can see) that the backgroud service still runs after the activity closes, so why would I want to leave the activity open and return to the launcher without gracefully closing the current activity? Anyway.. if I leave the activity open, it seems to work as expected, but not if I close the activity. Go figure.

I am using Resurrection Remix 8.6.7 on OnePlus 7 Pro. I've tried Plus Beat, True Edge, and now Always On Edge. I can't get any of them to work. Plus Beat came the closest by repeatedly flashing the lock screen, but I really want to use AOE and I would like to see the edge 'horizon' lights. I've given AOE every permission and accessibility service I know how to, and it still does not work.
Is it possible to use AOE on One Plus 7 Pro with Resurrection Remix 8.6.7 (Android Q10 based, and goes on top of OOS 10.3.8)?

Sort of feels like it's doze kicking in and the AOD framework needs to be excluded by it

I agree! Largely though its a great phone! I've had many, many phones, flagships, mid range and budget. I find the Oppo with the latest Color OS to be a surprisingly solid and well rounded phone even though it does have some quirks [emoji4] hoping the majority will be ironed out over time with updates

How do you go about submitting bug reports? I don't see a way of doing so within the settings app etc.
Wouldn't mind sending a few over [emoji4] the only other issues I really have are issues accessing secondary characters from the keyboard when trying to access them from characters which are on the curved part of the phone (guessing it's palm rejection being a bit too sensitive), and the proximity sensor is a bit iffy during calls.

Bizarre. Mine doesn't stay on whilst charging, mind you I have it turned off/disabled in Developer Options (option for 'Keep Screen On While Charging').

To submit a bug report you need to go here.... https://community.coloros.com/forum.php and create an account. Then go to the "Feedback" tab and you can submit a bug report or suggestion there. They'll probably want a log capture from the phone too. You can access the diagnostic menu by dialing *#800# then "Ok" then select "User". Interesting. ? Perhaps I'll check that out. I haven't enabled developer options on the phone yet, but wouldn't have thought you'd have to disable something that shouldn't be enabled by default. Not having the phone screen turn off when it times out while charging is a real issue that could lead to burn-in IMO. Your average user wouldn't necessarily know about "Developer Options".

It used to work before i reset my phone. My edge lighting works with screen off but when my aod is on it doesn't work, it use to work i dont know whats going on but that kind of kills half the purpose of edge lighting in my opinion plus it looks best whens screens off any one know a fix??

In for answers....I haven't done anything different to my phone but all of a sudden one day the edge lighting just stopped working ? hasn't worked for a few weeks for me now.

Could be one of the adaptive battery settings; known troublemakers. This feature though has eluded me for over a year on the 10+ And not a clue why even after spending a bunch of time playing with it

I tried that apk on the 10+ running on Pie, no joy and that apk itself was a real bloody pain.... grrrrr.
For whatever reason(s) edge lighting has never worked. I could try playing with it again... last couple times were a waste of time.
Probably a apk conflict or settings issue but I never found it... meh.

That function edge lighting was a mess since my note 9 days. Seems like not much has changed.

Lol, that's reassuring. A long history of fail.
I just looked over my settings and it should be active.
Damned if I see it anymore (it works for a couple days once, long, long ago).
I reset it to factory load, the only possible option left; no power management is active.
I'll double check my blocked apks just for amusement.
Guess I'll wait and see if this takes:laugh:

That function has always been a major fail. So much so that I have it off ( phone wise ) .
Opposite of the OOS 11 , the horizon light works everytime for notifications

Bah-ha-ha-ha... it never uses any battery (yes, well) so I completely forgot it was enabled.
Guess it could be one of the mystery apks under Android Services sucking battery though.

Zippo raid it be for sure.
I have something like 86 blocked apks now. All but 6 or so of those are never needed. Lol, less run time, less trouble.
Sometimes with new apps I'll block them until I sort them out or throw them out.

I remember them breaking it with one of the major S9 updates, I think Oreo? It worked fine for me before that, never since
Seems to work with OneUI 3.0 beta now
