Help, I can't hold the OP6 - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

It just wants to fly out of my hands with the slightest of movement. Specifically the Midnight Black version without a case. Yes, I am going to be using a case most of the time because it has a weak-ass glass back, but sometimes I like to go 'naked'. And I have insurance.
I am seriously thinking of returning my 128gb Midnight Black and getting a 64gb Mirror Black instead. I'm not sure the extra 2Gb memory is worth it, and I don't use much storage space generally.
So, for those of you who have held both, is the Mirror Black version less slippy to hold? And is it as much of a fingerprint magnet as I fear? Also, why did OnePlus decide to make a phone out the slippiest material known to man? That must have taken a lot of R&D. I'm honestly kind of impressed.

Just ordered the mirror black 64gb version because the 2gb ram does not make a difference according to the experts.I ordered the bumper karbon case.I would not risk it without it,I've had my op3 for 2 years now with karbon case,no marks on it still.
I don't know why they bothered with the glass back if theyre not even implementing wireless charging, but I will not be using it without a case ever

Yeah, so slippery. Midnight black. Using the supplied case now though so not a problem.

This is pretty much the same with any all glass phone.....??? not sure what you are wanting someone to say... try a dbrand skin maybe?

I find the glass back does help with reception, so there is some benefit other than just wireless charging. With my OP6 I can get WiFi reception at the extremities of my house where every other device has failed.
I probably won't be using it without some form of case, but I still want that option without it slipping out of my hand like a bar of soap.

A skin is a possibility, yes. It wouldn't be needed if the Mirror black is less slippy though.

Yes, it's slippery as hell. Have been using the TPU case since it arrived. Switching to a more rugged case when one I like is available.

pop socket if you wanna go naked is the next best thing, plus will guarantee that if you drop it the pop socket takes the brunt of the impact first since it becomes the center of gravity

Yep that's why I got the sandstone case. All OnePlus have been slippery for me. And the carbon fiber cases can be also.

Never heard of those, thanks for the info.

Nylon case feels good, but a bit too thick.I think sandstone case is a better choice.
Anyway the matte back has a great touch but too slippery, mirror back can get a lot fingerprint for sure.White may get better?

The midnight black version is less slipery than my old lg g6

pop sockets are a horrible idea and I personally would never use them. You are banking that knob (the pop socket) never comes un-stuck from the back of your phone first of all and secondly I hope you have relatively thin fingers because if you don't forcing or cramming your fingers in that space is definitely going to pop it off your phone....

I have the Mirror Black and while I used it naked for the 30 seconds until putting on a case, I noticed that the glass back is not very slippery, but the SIDES are slippery as hell so really, I can't see the point of using this phone naked. It even looks good with the stock case...

i haven't had a glass backed phone yet that I am comfortable carrying naked. Its just par for the course. Hell even my OP5T was slippery as crap and it was metal backed so....

i had it on my naked note 8 just fine and it came off just fine, and it gets easier to hold after you break it in.

The mirror black is glossy so it's not a slick as the frosted back of the midnight black

Yeah I tried them both in O2 today and that is definitely the case. The mirror black does pick up finger prints easy but at least you can actually hold it.
I think I will be swapping this one fora 64Gb mirror black model after the weekend.

Anyone else feel like the matte rubberized material will peel over time?

I love the feel of the rubberized matte material on the black phone but feel like it'll succumb to peeling like how my Logitech MX mice have succumbed to over time.
The charging port already has scratches on it from me trying to plug in a charger without guiding it in delicately already, and this made me wonder.

Not so worried about peeling, more that the finish will wear down and go 'shinney' like my old HTC One X.

That's the reason I went for the white one, my One X went shiny as well and I didn't want to run the risk again.
I've wondered if it's going to start outright peeling like the coatings on the Cr-48 Chromebooks. I've been waiting for the thread, and in the mean time, been babying my n5.

I originally bought a black 32gb N5, but after playing with it for about 30s it felt like it wasn't going to last very long. The last pocketable item I had with soft touch plastic was an MP3 player that ended up looking like a severe burns victim after about 6 months with the coating peeling off. I returned the black one and now waiting for my white one to come in lol
I think at that point if it does get bad than just get one of those ultra thin TPU cases or hard shell cases and cover it up. I was thinking about putting one on now to try and avoid scratching the back but thought to myself, it is just a phone and is meant to be used, so just use it and not worry about scratching the back!! Especially with how nice the back and sides of the N5 feel, be a shame to not use it. Don't get me wrong, I have a screen protector on it but I am starting to wonder why I am so worried about scratching the back, its the back of the phone after all...
I also read that the back of the phone is just held on with tabs and maybe a little bit of glue, we may be able to buy a replacement back for our phones and if so then there is zero reason to worry about the back.
I actually think it'll be alright. Maybe the black one will go, but the white one feels less rubbery for lack of better words. I honestly think it'll stay the same.

I had a cr-48 to that peeled like crazy. My first worry about this phone is that it will peel as well but I got a case now, so hopefully it will be okay.

I have a feeling it will as the same material peeled on a mouse I had before. So I got a case with the phone!

Same coating as on my Razer Deathadder mouse. That has held up well after years of use except for where i used to wear a ring. On that spot the coating wore away.

OP here, mine has held up real well. No fading or peeling at all. The only issues are the inserts for the NEXUS letters falling out and the cracking of the side frame.
Do you use a case or pouch with your phone at all?

The coating has rubbed off on the corners on mine. Only the edges of the back is exposed as I have a vinyl skin on. The only wear I put my phone through that would cause that is putting it in and taking it out of my pocket.

Unicorn Beetle Case

Hi
My unicorn beetle case just arrive and I want to share my toughts with you.
First I order it from Amazon as I live in Chile the final cost was around 50 bucks.
I drop my first moto x 2014 (the one in the pics) and it screen shattered so a case for my new moto X was a must.
The case came in a really simple cardboard box, inside you find the 3 parts of the case:
- Front panel
- Back panel
- Belt clip holster
The plastic bag that contain them have a QR code with a link to a video of how asamble it but is really very easy.
The front panel have a integrated screen protector and only leave the mic, front camera and speaker unprotected (this is why this case is not waterproof).
The backpanel leaves the Motorola, the camera and the back mics unprotected also, but it have protectors for usb port and the audio jack.
The only fail that I notice is the holster, only once I was able to attach the phone to it, I haven't been able to do it again, it should be a lot more easier, but anyway I dind't plan to use it.
The phone dosn't gain a lot of weight and I still feel it comfortable.

I don't know if that will be a great idea, I use mine all the time but for a test that I really need to use wolfram alpha I remove it, I haven't been able since then to use it with out bubbles in the screen protector.

Very happy with it, just the hard plastic back is easily scratchable, i already got a deep scracth in it... Tried it on a coloured back moto X too and the frosted back is wonderful !
15€ on Amazon.fr
any updates? i tried the link you posted but had no luck. i got my phone on jan 2,15 and havent yet been able to find a case i like for it.
I've had this case for about a week, and I have mixed feelings. It's a very rugged case, and I feel comfortable about the phone not being damaged. However, there are a few things I would change about this case if I could. First, since the case isn't waterproof, it could do without the integrated screen protector and headphone/power port covers. It takes a little bit of dexterity to hold the cover open just to plug in the charger. Secondly, the power and volume buttons could be more pronounced. I have accidentally turned off the screen many times while trying to adjust the volume.
I don't regret the purchase, though, and I'd definitely recommend it as an alternative to Otterbox.
I've had this case in white for just over a month, here are my impressions.
- sturdy case
- excellent quality
- great price
First thing I did was yank off the screen protector. It is a far better plan to apply something like a BSE skin than to keep using the screen protector that's included.
This means you can take off/on the case with little fuss as much as you want. Its easy to remove and seems up to the task of repeated removal.
The fact that the front of the phone sits in the trim piece is awesome. Makes for a sandwiched and protected feel.
I like the port covers. Yes, they can be a pain to pop open for time to time but again they also seem to be built well enough to take the abuse.
Since we don't have a waterproof phone but only the nanocoating inside I like the added ingress protection that they offer.
I have the white/grey case and it is gaining some darkness on the corners but I'll blame my grubby mitts on that one.
The holster is good not great. Phone sits well in it and feels well made. Too bad its missing the kickstand in the clip.
All in all I give it a 9/10.
For the price it sells for and the protection it offers its a no brainer.

I have it in white. Here are a few photos I took. The photo of the front is a bit blurry.. Sorry!
I've had one of these cases for a while. I only use it when at work and do a manual job with dust, grit, grime and angry bovines. Well they're not angry all the time! The case is the dark gray/black and is in not bad condition considering. The Moto X on the other hand is pristine despites drops out of open tractor doors, drops onto concrete and countless excursions onto cab floors.
The built in screen protector is useful as I don't have anything on my moto x 2014 screen. I tried a couple of the glass screen protectors but removed both after a short time with the edges lifting and dust getting under the lifted edges. I also like the port covers though agree both are a little tricky to open. That said I rarely open either when the case is fitted. On previous phones I've has dust and chaff get jammed in the usb port and once somehow managed to get an animal feed pellet stuck in the headphones jack.
When I ordered the Unicorn case, unbeknown to me the mrs had ordered me an Otterbox Defender case so have that as well. It seems to bulk the phone more than the Unicorn case and the rubber texture makes it less easy to remove from pockets. It is also harder to fit compared to the Unicorn but on the other hand you about need a tyre lever to remove the Unicorn. It's a good case but prefer the Unicorn. I say again I only use a case on my Moto X for work. For pleasure it goes bare
I ordered the Beetle case, and it is in my opinion, the best case I have tried for the phone.
Thanks for the suggestion

Change Side Bumpers

Since it appears that LG makes it pretty easy to teardown this phone it would be cool to change out the bumpers for smaller ones. lol... (I don't plan on dropping mine).
https://youtu.be/7N_mGT-P1ZA
Only thing I was on the fence about this phone was that T-Mobile only has black. (I know, I'm a stickler.)
Max's video really showed you how easy it is to teardown and replace with other colored parts later when available.
Actually I might keep the black and just go for the rose gold rails and camera ring from the white color.
As for slimmer rails I think if you use a dremel you could shave off a few mm possibly? Similar to what a few LG G Watch R users did to get rid of the cheap black paint.
Black and gold would have the most "premium" look. Now hopefully people will start breaking their new phones, so more replacement parts become available lol. Or, maybe the people that got review units will sell parts? Here's hoping.
I was actually thinking yesterday after seeing Max video to just change bars to gold.... And leave black... But not rose gold pure yellow gold... Sexy sexy... I saved an eBay search to find them

I'm not sure that's 100% a good idea. For one, we already know the fingerprint sensor only works when you're contacting the side bumpers. Who knows what else might stop working if you disconnect or replace them? The antennas, maybe?
I wouldn't want to be the first to find out.
I am thinking of buying an extra set and plasti-dipping them:

It's capacitives, so people think you have to touch it and the scanner at the same time, but people have gotten it to work with cases. If you can find an extra set, let me know though.
Yeah, or I'll use CF Vinyl. (I do vinyl as a side hobby so I have lots of extra bits)
I have rose gold rails, and I'm already seeing silver poking through on the corners just from pocket wear (no case).
Very minor so far, but if it gets worse I'll be looking for stainless steel rails.

Best I can do. As I said, it's very minor. It looks like a glint in the corner, but it is wear. No drops, identical on opposite corner. Like the earliest stage of holster wear on the slide of a carry pistol.
That's not too bad at all, but it would definitely be nerve wracking to have... Thanks for the update!

Plasti dip is amazing.. Never thought to use it for the rails of the phone, that would be very cool. Best thing is, if you grow tired of the dip want to change color etc you can just make a small cut through the dip (most people use something like a standard screwdriver or a razor) and peels right off.
I might look into this, I'd love a dark blue on my bumpers to go with the black phone... Oooh...
I don't believe I will want to take down the phone to do it though. May look into doing so without it.

I bought the white intending to buy black back cover and simply aplying skinomi decals in black carbon fiber to the white parts in front. Actually the decals are on the way already. I have applied Di-Noc carbon wrap to the back of the clear Ringke cover because it was a finger print magnet. But the cover weighs down the phone too much for my liking on what is already a heavy phone compared to my feather light Note 3.
As for the Rose gold rails, I have clear wrap for cars left over. I cover them with that before the plating wears off or I scratch it. Man those things weigh down this phone. I have a cramp by the end of the day.
I would be cool if I could take them off, and still have a case. the side bards only make the phone wider. It seems it would be easier to hold without the metal bars, that are nothing more than cosmetic additions.
Yes they are big... But just a few screws holding them on. I could see the phone modding scene take off with custom bumpers. Flat ones would be a great first entry. Also a stylus bumper could be added to either side, with a thin styla style that clips on or slides in.

looking to get myself a rhinoshield bumper (buttons question).

hey guys, first time for me to get a bumper but before i get the rhinoshield i'd like to ask those that own it whether the buttons will start to feel more clicky after a while of using it.
e.g after a month or so, i read on reddit/and saw on a youtube review and a review on XDA.
all complaining about Stiff buttons , meaning hard to push powerbutton/vol up down.
and i hate stiff/mushy not clicky buttons, i love clicky tactile buttons.
does the rhinoshield improve within time? if yes i'd like to get it
or if someone knows of a nice bumper case for the 6p, please let me know.
i only know about the rhinoshield.
I'm glad to say that yes, I have mine for like half a year and after 2 month it's start to be clicky and satisfying.
And if it not was so clear on the first 2 months I suffered from those buttons, really stiff and unpleasant feedback.
Now I'm very happy with my bumper, completes my phone
They're not as bad as they're made out to be. You'll need to put a skin on the back to avoid finger print smudges though.
Buy it.

I pondered over the same question a while back, before buying the crash guard..
after having it for about 6 months [ maybe more ], i keep thinking " why did i bother asking the question before ordering ".
In a word its " perfect "
In the beginning, it was a bit hard [ not too much though ], it got mellowed out and its great now.
No clicking issues here.
dropped it a few times from like 3-4 feet [ accidentally of course ], no issues there also :good:
Hope this helped.

out of thanks buttons , thanks for showing.
your combo looks badass.
i also have a skin on the back of my 6p and the skin is quite light, whitei'sh.
so i look forward to combine it with the white rhino shield.
Hi! I got the first batch of the Nexus 6p bumper case from Rhino Shield and the area by the charger sort of broke over time. They do offer a lifetime warranty where you just pay for shipping and they don't charge you for the replacement. I had the white one at first. It changes color over time from a really clean white to like greyish even after soaking it in some Clorox mixture over 8 hours or more. So I got the dark blue one as a replacement. I don't regret buying from them at all.
While it is very stiff at first, it gets better over time.
Taking a screenshot can be a pain, though. It often triggers just one or the other (usually the volume button) unless if you press them a certain way.
Hope that helps.

Wow couldnt have said it better myself! My white bumper turned blue from my jeans really quick and also had the charging port hole break after removing and putting the case back on too many times.
Switched to the blue version and couldn't be happier. I attached a pic of my current setup for anyone that is interested, got that American pride going

The skin doesn't peel off when I remove the case. Be careful removing the case alot though, I cracked the charging port that way.
So I have an intelliarmor (highly recommend) and it fits just fine within the bounds of the bumper. Granted I put it on after the bumper was on to make sure it didn't interfere.

Im waiting on a replacement right now and Intelliarmor assured me that the Nexus 6p 0.2mm will fit with the case that I have. I'm not sure what I had prior since my order invoice just says 6p screen protector.
The main concern should be signal interference because of the bumper case

Complete nonsense. Like it's covering up anything that other cases don't? It's literally covering less than a regular case..

Ah, sorry about that. I had no idea they even had an aluminum version.

Question What color did you pick?

Putting up a poll out of sheer curiosity.
Since these phones need a case, any dark color works fine.
Without a case they will get TKOed... have one from day one.

Yeah I plan on ordering a case for mine ASAP. I just need to figure out what one I want. I love the low-profile feel of my N10+ 5G when I don't have the case, but I'll admit that I've broken the digitizer a few times. Thank you for insurance and $39 LCD/Digitizer replacements. Haha
I was torn for the longest time, black or burgandy. In the end, black was my choice. Can't go wrong with black. And coming from the blue note 9, I missed black phones.

I've had the N10 in Aura Glow, White, and Black. I thought I would pick black, but the burgundy looks so good.
I have the Graphite on pre-order

Eventually Zizo will have a case. That's all I use on my N10+'s. Zero damage in spite of a dozen drops onto concrete. The Bolt provides full face plant protection which also helps holding the phone and accidental touches. A good case makes the phone easier to use. Pay special attention to the protection given to the spen corner as these are corner hitting phones when dropped... that is if it doesn't face plant
The problem is any impact that can damage the display, frame rail or rear cover can also take out the mobo, cam, etc. The mobo and cams are especially susceptible and intolerant to high G loading impacts and board flexing. What seems like minor damage can get very expensive and/or erratic behavior, failures.
Samsung has some clear cases on pre-order right now, with and without a kickstand. I will probably get one of those.

yeah with the mechanical OIS that doesn't surprise me at all. That and lenses require pretty precise alignment as well. And all of the phones I've damaged have been from face plants....The rear has only been cracked once after I rolled onto it working under my car.
I went with black. I ordered the Spigen Rugged Armor and Tough Armor in black.

I've been lucky with face plants as most were on level surfaces and it landed on the case guard. A couple drops though did catch the display, once the factory screen protector and a couple of times Gorilla IQ Sheild.
Both protected the display from a sure marring.
It's impossible to completely protect the display but you can do an adequate job most times.
The case should be slightly higher than the display on the sides and even higher on the ends.

Hard polycarbonate doesn't absorb much energy from an impact.. if it doesn't absorb it, it can transfer it to the device. Good for scratch protection but a good corner hit on concrete will not be pretty.

The worst part about this situation? I worked in a cell phone store as a flippin' repair tech for 6 1/2 years. If anyone should know better...It's me. LOL

The incredible amount of trouble a damaged or lost flagship phone would cause keeps me in check.

In my opinion Spigen prices have increase a lot since the last time I bought from them. I want a clear case to show the Graphite colour.
I love the way the Burgundy looks. It's almost a shame to have to cover it up with a case.

I hear you but I think functionality and survivability are more important. The cost in time and aggravation outweigh the pretty face.
So all I look for is a dark colored phone to blend with the case. You could get a graphite grey case...

Never mind, I went to the US website to check if they had any earlier today. I just found them on Amazon UK, and for some reason they are charging US people almost double. For example the Tough Armor is £19 here, and 45 dollars in the US. So I might buy 1 besides the Samsung case to check it out.
