How to change Google calendar notification sound? - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

The headline says it all. Any hint appreciated.
BTW, I also can't change it on my OP5, presumably after the Oreo update. It still uses my personalized reminder sound, which was set before Oreo but no way to change it now or I'm just too stupid to find it.
Thanks!

I'm also having this issue on my 5T. The option to change the sound is unavailable to click.

Notifications Google Calendar OnePlus6
Same her for oneplus 6 oxygen os 5.1.11.
No editing of notification sound and vibration possible for google calendar app..

I think you'd have to unpack the calendar apk and change it there. Not even sure if you can do that with a google app. Those sounds and all are build into the app.

Nah, normally you can pick the sound effect from the ones you've got on your phone, but Oneplus has for some reason disabled this functionality on OxygenOS 5.

I shifted to aCalender due to this issue. Happy with the new app, similar functionality of u can a say a little more, with a little learning curve.

Seems this issue has been resolved in op6 android Pie stable build.

Google calendar just sucks, as do most of the Google apps. I installed the Asus Calendar apk and have all the features back. You can't disable the Google Calendar though on the OP6 due to the way they've allowed the Google Calendar to take over some of the settings.

Problems with some apps and Google Calendar

Hello, i got some issues with Sub. i Use substratum with andromeda (non rooted) and Oreo 8.0 on my Pixel. Using Baltic UI theme.
I didnt themed any app.
First one is when i use Pushbullet app to transfer files between devices, when i try to open any file transfered to phone liek txt or pdf (besides images) it crashes the app.
Second one is that any application which has access to calendar adds anything to calendar it adds events as Birthdays, and then after 5 second even this birthdays are gone from calendar.
Maybe im wrong and substratum has nothing with it, but please let me know is it possible to substratum crash that apps and causes that problems with calendar?
And additional question, if i want to get rid of substratum themes and apply factory settings should i disable themes and uninstall substratum before or can i go to factory settings besides that? (non rooted installation of substratum)
And also can i update system to 8.1 with installed themes or i should get rid of them before? Thanks in advance for replying.
Sorry if any of these questions were asked before but there is so many topics and post about that so it gets really hard hard to get exact answer.
Thanks in advance!!!

Custom App Notification Sounds

I have been having problems setting custom notification sounds for some apps, but haven't really looked too much into it until now. What I have found is that apparently from Oreo stock Android allows you to change app notification sounds, and other notification settings, from within the Android system settings (Settings > Apps and notifications). This then makes it unnecessary for apps to accommodate these sound settings from within the apps themselves like they used to. Of course many Google first party apps, such as Messages and Gmail, have adopted this new method for managing notifications. However, it would appear that Honor/Huawei in EMUI 8 have stripped out the option to change the sound from within the app notification settings screen. The result appears to be that we are unable to set app specific notification sounds for many Google apps and any other 3rd party apps that have embraced this change in Oreo. Instead these just use the system wide default notification sound.
I am not aware of any official Honor or Huawei community where we can log bugs or change requests. So how do we make them aware that this is an issue that we care about?
I presume that this hasn't already been fixed on newer devices running 8.1?
It would be really good if someone could prove me wrong. Is there some other way that we can set custom tones on an app by app basis?
Thanks.

Yup. This bugs me since I got my View 10... The function in Android Oreo is called Notification channels. EMUI supports them and shows these channels in the settings but option to change sound is for some reason missing.
There are couple of screenshots how function is supposed to look in this article: https://www.androidcentral.com/notification-channels
I wrote message to huawei's support (I think I found form on hihonor website?) and they didn't reply anything particulary useful ("you can change sounds in whatsapp!" - yeah, because it doesn't use these channels for sounds) but at least they promised they forward my "tips for improvement" to higher department, whatever that means.

Anyone having problem with Overhead notifications after PIE update?

Hi everyone,
After upgrading my Pixel 2 to Android 9 (PIE), I've been having notification issues. Primarily, all of my messaging apps (SMS, Messenger, and Whatsapp) aren't having any notification bubble/overlay pop up down to show the message before going back to the notification bar.
Anyone else having the issue?
I had a problem just with Gmail. I had to discover and work through all the notification settings in settings and in the apps and do-not-disturb. No idea which fixed it, but i did find some (new 9.0?) settings that I didn't thing were as I wanted them to be. Will all the rhetoric about 9.0 dnd and notification settings being so much better, I didn't think the UI has helped. Again, there seem to be lots of places to set things it's not intuitively clear if/how they interact with each other :-S

Other than smooth animations, I'm not quite happy with what's going on with PIE. Thank God I installed this on my Pixel 2. My daily Driver is the Pixel 2 XL and the Pixel 2 was given as a gift. i use the pixel 2 as my backup camera if i don't bring my DSLRs with me if i'm out somewhere.

I wholeheartedly agree. Sadly, my Pixel2 is my daily driver, so I'm stuck with Pie. I have spent the last three days trying to get things set back up to match the setup I had on Oreo. I'm generally pretty objective about software and can understand why certain choices and modifications were made, but I can honestly say that the UI/UX in Pie is, subjectively, an unintuitive nightmare. It seems to have been dumbed down for the sake of usability which has resulted in an unintuitive, inconsistent, and (ironically) overcomplicated mess.

Launchers and gestures problems

Pixel launcher has the annoying search bar on its home screen which is irremovable.
Nova launcher is arguably the best for customizability. But there's something that ticks me off when using Nova. Whenever you open recent apps the transition isn't smooth as with Pixel. It has a small hiccup.
(See https://imgur.com/a/lewvZu3 for what I mean)
I tried almost every launcher on the market and they all had the same problem.
So I contacted Nova's development team to give them my feedback. This is what they had to say:
"Hello,
PLEASE READ THIS RESPONSE IN FULL!
You can read Google's official statement and our statement about the issues you and anyone else using Android 10 and Android 11 are experiencing. Please take note that Google admits to this being broken on their end of things and that a fix will be coming in a future update to Android(Stated March 2019.).
However, it's now well over a year later and there are still many issues with full system gestures and 3rd party launchers on both Android and Android 11. These issues will remain for the foreseeable future as Google has no plans to completely fix their full system gestures.
This includes things such as the CLOSE ALL/CLEAR ALL button not showing up when you access the Recent Apps screen. As well as a delay of being able to tap on app icons when returning to the home screen from another app, from viewing the Recent Apps screen or anything similar.
These problems will still be there when Android 11 is released in its final form as Google has made it clear it's not going to fix/change things any time soon.
Please understand, there is absolutely NOTHING WE CAN DO TO FIX OR CHANGE THIS IN ANY WAY! Contact Google or your device OEM directly with these issues as contacting any launcher developer isn't the correct thing to do and isn't going to accomplish anything.
SAMSUNG USERS: Samsung has enabled full system gestures to be enabled within 3rd party launchers with their One UI 2.5 update. This means you can enable those gestures, but things are still very broken, especially when it comes to animations and how smooth the gestures work. This is NOT something Nova, or any other 3rd party launcher can fix. Only Google can fix it.
In the end, none of this is something we(Nova) can fix or change in any way and neither can any other 3rd party launcher for that matter. It is ultimately up to Google and only Google to fix full system gestures completely. Though they have made it clear that full system gestures will remain broken even with the final release of Android 11 and likely well beyond that.
We understand that this statement was made during a beta version of Android 10. However, as is stated in the below URL, this issue will remain broken even after Android 10, and now Android 11, is released in its final form. What this means is that Google knew well ahead of time that they had no plans to fix this until much later so it's still a relative issue today.
GOOGLE'S STATEMENT:
https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2019/07/android-q-beta-5-update.html
OUR STATEMENT:
https://help.teslacoilapps.com/faq/gesture-navigation
As of the December 2019 Security Patch from Google, you can now enable full system gestures within 3rd party launchers. However, please note, there are still a lot of issues with the gesture system such as animations not working, Close All button not showing up and several other things. This is not something any launcher developer, including us here at Nova, can fix or change in any way.
This is still all up to Google to fix at some point in the future and to get things working 100% the way everyone expects them to be.
If you experience any issues at all while using full system gestures, it is highly suggested that you contact Google directly and/or file bug reports with them directly so that your voice can be heard by them directly.
ACTION LAUNCHER'S FALSE CLAIMS: Action Launcher made an announcement back in late December 2019, is actually misleading and 100% incorrect. They are referring to the back swipe edit zones and similar stuff. Full system gestures are completely controlled by Android and not something a launcher can just suddenly add support for or change in any way.
If you actually try to use the full system gestures in Action Launcher, you'll see they are still as broken as they have been and will remain that way until Google fixes things themselves."
Edit: uploaded an animated gif of the example but XDA converted it to a still image, so I had to upload on imgur.
I'm using Nova as well. Have you also had an issue when swiping up and holding to access recent apps, the apps fill the entire screen instead of showing the smaller preview window?

Just updated to A11 beta and the bugs are gone. It's working smoothly now.
The gestures work fine if you're willing to root and use QuickSwitch with a supported launcher. (No third party launchers support A11 with QuickSwitch yet though)

i have this problem on a oneplus ,Do you have enable the navigation with gestures?
when i use navigation bar this issue solve it most of the times its a common problem on nova for not having all the code for android 10 as nova tell that navigation gestures on android 10 are not totally compatible with the launcher

Search bar can be removed and more options.
See this thread
Just make sure you get the right files for A10, I have not tested on A11 yet.

Questions About Using Lineage OS 18.1 on Pixel 3

Greetings,
So I've successfully installed Lineage OS 18.1 Nightly and it runs really well. I've got the NikGapps Core and Magisk installed. Was able to add the apps I like from Google Play store and used the free or open source alternatives I could find for others.
I have a few questions for anyone using Lineage since I'm not sure if these are bugs or design choices or parts of Android 11.
Any clarification would be great. Basically, there's a few things I noticed that are different/don't seem to operate normally.
I can upload screenshots if necessary but let me give you the cliff notes of what I'm experiencing:
-No labels on the home screen icons, even though setting says "Show labels on desktop". Is this me interpreting something incorrectly?
-All icons on the home screen and app drawer appear to have a white background... should be transparent?
-The default sms messaging app always shows quick replay phrases despite turning off the setting "Always suggest quick actions/replies" in the notifications menu
-There is no way to turn off suggested apps... when you use an app it places it in a new section at the top of the app drawer. Looks like the menu setting is missing (there in vanilla A11).
-There is no built in volume limited. This was on my stock Galaxy S7 so if it is an OEM thing I understand. Perhaps you have a suggestion?
-Notifications from the default sms messaging app do not pop up over other on screen elements (specifically fullscreen video in Brave). Does this have to do with the "Bubbles" setting under notifications?
-Screen automatically dims/sleeps when watching fullscreen video (again in Brave)... happens inconsistently and going in/out of fullscreen seems to stop it from happening again.
-There is no swype ability on the keyboard. I assume this is a OEM keyboard setting or something.. is there an alternate keyboard you would recommend (open source, free) that won't steal your info/privacy violations?
-Last thing which is more of a question than anything else, since I cannot install a stable twrp, I used the Lineage OS recovery. It doesn't seem to have a backup/restore function. So is there a way for me to, with the setup I currently have, to do a complete and full backup? By this I mean like capture an image of all the partitions as they currently are, as you would with a PC.
Sorry for n00b but the last unlocked rooted custom rom I ran was Cyanogen back on a Motorola Photon. Thank you in advance, any input or clarification is much appreciated as you are a helpful, insightful bunch here.
