[Q] how difficult would it be to port camera app from note3 or s4?

I have recently purchased a note 3 (on sprint) thinking that the N5 wouldn't be on Sprint. The note would be my second choice between the two. The only thing keeping me from selling my Note3 is the camera app. Specifically slow mo video recording. Would it be possible to port the app to the N5?

Maybe its possible but it will be very very hard, don`t know for sure it needs the Touchwizz framework but I think it does (if this the case its impossible I guess).

It is possible but not without devoting a lot of time to it. It will require the TouchWiz framework and thats hard to do as it is closed source and will need a TW ROM port.
So no, chances of it happening are the same chances of you winning the lottery. It won't happen, from my previous experiences on a Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4. There was a TW port but then not maintained.
If the camera is important to you then stick with the Note 3/S4 as they have better picture quality than the N5 as said by the people who have the phone in their hands (media).

I have an S4, G2 and a N5 in my house tonight and I'll be doing some comparison shots with the Cameras over the weekend to help everyone out. Should be a fun project, will post a YouTube video comparing different things like boot up time, Antutu scores and other stuff (suggestions welcomed).

Note 3 to a S5 who plans on changing?

Well with the Galaxy S5 only a few months away now, as i don't believe it launch in January more like late March early April, who plans on changing from the Note 3 to the S5?
Rumors so far for the S5 are
5.25" QHD 2K screen with over 500ppi
3GB of Ram
Snapdragon 805 chipset
32GB as standard
16mp camera with OIS maybe
4K video without any limits
Premium body instead of plastic
If these specs turn out to be true, would you be tempted or will you hang on for the Note 4 in September?

For me to switch the S5 has to be different in a lot of ways. Preferably better looking, and now after having a 5.7inch screen... going back to something smaller won't cut it for me right now.
I went from S3 > HTC One and avoided the S4 because it wasn't much different to the S3 looks wise

Its would take a lot to get me to switch to another phone now. Not a lot of flagships offer a dual sim version.

After many years I playing around some Android & iPhone
I would be stick with Note Family ( Note 2 / Note 3 / Note 4 ).
S Family ( S2 / S3 / S4) did not suit me enough.

You forgot it will do the coffee, it could recharge car's batteries, it will have flexible screen, it will have a toggle witch can chose the night/day over there, and sure, the most usefull, kitty (pu**y) magnet!!!

- The metal casing rumour has already been killed by Sammobile&DigiTimes: Nobody is producing them. And it would make no marketing sense to heed the wishes of a few over the purchases of millions. Wishful thinking, the Note 3 was also 'certain' to have a metal case. Mine doesn't, does yours?
- It's just going to be an 2.5Ghz S800, not an S805.
- No curved display either.
Other than the screen, battery and spen, the specs are identical to the Note 3. As much as I would like 2K on my phone, imagine the battery drain on the by default much smaller battery, and lag. The Galaxy S lineup has always lagged. Adding 2K will only make matters worse...

Now i have mini 2 for almost one year and really i like it it have NFC but i wish Samsung release ics or jb for it so i can use NFC for beam beam and now i'm on cm10.1 kitkat soon but i'll gonna buy Nexus 6 i think when it released really i love nexus family

I agree that increasing the resolution and ppi could cause lags. IMO it is not productive at all. We already cannot see pixels, and my Note 3 screen shows exactly same area, if I open an excel sheet, or a map, or a book, as my i9305 S3 with 1280x720 screen.
I do not agree that Galaxy S lineup laggs. That's maybe true, but the reason is Touchwiz. Your own fault if you stick to it. I am running CM on my S3, and it flies. With CM 11 I don't think there is any difference compared to iPhone. Well maybe just sometimes .

The S8+. Of all the phones I've owned that was the first one I've ever broken the screen. So yes, the upgrade to the S9+ was worth it
Short of that though... I don't know. While the upgrades from the S8 were noticeable, if you have to pay full retail for it I don't think it would be worth it. The S8 is a great phone.

I had the LG G5 and YES. It was absolutely worth the 900 bucks. The G5 is a pile of garbage and I had sworn off galaxy phones after the garbage that is TouchWiz but damn this S9+ really appealed to me. Bought it, love it, will never leave it.

Technically the phone I had right before my S9+ was a OnePlus 5, but that was just a temporary phone. I only had it for 2 weeks.
I actually upgraded from the S8+.

note 8 and i upgrade to s9+ for battery and speakers it worth
love this device

Note 8, the s9+ is worth the dual sound etc

Yep that's because there was no phone that was impressive or worth the upgrade throughout the years. Nexus 6 IMO is still the best community developer friendly device today (aside from oneplus 5t) it's almost 4 years old and the xda nexus 6 forums are still strong today and filled with many ROMs compared to other phones. The front facing speakers (using Dolby & viper4android) still beats the quality of the S9+ (with Dolby enabled and configured to my liking). But of course I love the S9+ performance which is why I'm stuck to it like glue lol.

Note 5. Honestly not much difference.

s7 edge, s8 ,s9+ only upgraded to the s9+ as had a 20% off code on very.co.uk which the phone worked out to be £695, gave my old s8 the misses as she had the galaxy a5 2017,
everyone's happy all round.

Well, I upgraded from Galaxy S5.

What is the use of OIS?

I am planning to buy a phone that could double up as a book(text) scanner. So far I have owned phones without OIS(Samsung galaxy Note 3 Neo, Honor 7x) and what I have found is that while taking photos of books(with proper lighting and flash) if I take 10 pages, mostly 1 or 2 pages are slightly blurry(text are not clear) probably due to shake. Will having OIS benefit my purpose? What I have read is that OIS benefits low light(night) photography. So I am not sure if OIS will help my purpose. Kindly help. Thanks

I meant OIS(Optical Image Stabilization). It's a camera feature.

I did a search for OIS before I replied the first time, I didn't find anything relevant to what you asked.
That should be a default feature unless you're using old hardware.

OIS is a feature(mechanical arrangement in Camera) generally available only in premium smartphones(like LG G7, Samsung galaxy s9, oneplus 6 etc). My question was more related to whether this OIS is useful for my purpose.
