Phone thinks I have a flip case on, screen frozen. - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Hello, I've had this issue for about 3 months now. Insurance company wont help and phone repairs cost a lot.
Let me introduce you to the problem, my honor 8 thinks that I have one of those flip cases with a magnet on. It only shows the upper center of the screen.
There are no magnets on it/close and it doesn't matter if I do a hard reset or how I bot it.
I have no touch while it's in its frozen state.
I can't update it either because the package always fails and at this point I've tried everything to fix it, even bought a flip case to see if it will fix it...
Here's a related thread I found, but this was with a magnet close: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/help/honor-8-screen-freezes-phone-magnet-t3702651

S-view case from ebay

Hello guys!
Has anyone tried this case?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/16130482774...arms=gh1g=I161304827748.N19.S2.M-37283.R3.TR3
No one?
Hi SERGIUHUSCA I have tried an OEM one and it works 100% I cant paste the link yet because of XDA policy.
And it works 100% with Samsung GS5.
Best Regards...
I bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171382082...49&var=470430675712&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
But the right-hand side doesn't fully click into place, so I'd be worried about it's water resistance.
I have the official samsung one and it sucks
I have bought nearly a month ago this Samsung EF-CG900BBEGWW S View Cover. In simple words, i am sure you can buy a better case.
This particular one doesn't close well in the front, so sometimes the screen goes on for excessive time. Furthermore, the acrylic window is very fragile and gets scratched easily.
The contact that makes the switch between the small (window) screen and full screen mode, which seems to be placed somewhere in the backpart of the case fails and once in a day i have to unattach and attach it back to get the function again.
Really, bad quality product, I frankly discourage anyone to buy it.
Yep I think all of the s-view covers are having issues with the front part not closing fully. Apparently it's due to lack of magnetism. Mine isn't scratching but I've only had it for 4 days. However, I'd expect it to scratch; and better that scratch than the phone itself, which is the main reason I have the case.
Don't buy this fake case! The case can brik your phone!
After i put the case on my phone in 30 minutes i feel a overheating on the phone! After that the phone doesn't recognize the sim card and reboot itself!Imediatly i take off the case ad everything came back to normal!

Anyone have an official S View Cover?

Is it meant to stay shut? Via. a magnet or something?
My mom just bought one and as soon as she closes the front, it pops up again (which means the screen becomes active).
Is this normal?
That's normal
Yeah I bought mine from Wally World on clearance for $5, so I basically had to buy it. It does open some though, sometimes enough to make it become active, sometimes not so much. The only thing I did, and it works, for a while atleast, is set something heavy on it (just the case, not the phone) for a couple hours.
I have an official S-View Cover and when I bought it I was thinking of buying the little magnetic clipfrom Spigen but when I put the S view cover and realized it stayed correctly closed without activating the screen, I didn't buy the clip. Howerver if your cover keeps popping up, you might wanna get it.
After using
After putting in my pocket and abusing it, lol. My case stays shut now. I did have the same problem as you at first.
I got mine from the samsung store it self and it works perfectly and nicely. That's normal for the S-View to be on active once you've closed it anyway it will turn off and put on standby after a seconds.

Nillkin Sparkle View

I bought this today for $9 http://www.nillkin.com/english/proshow.asp?mid=2&sid=0&tid=0&cid=1&scid=&id=5000&page=1 and I successfully registered it and the app, but the problem is if I close the flip cover completely, it unlocks my screen instead of showing the kview. The kview appears only if the case is partially opened like 5-10mm. Seems like a problem with the way it interacts with the proximity or a service. Anyone got an idea?
Since it shows the smart view when not completely closed, I can't use the smart shortcuts..
I just bought this case after reading your post. It doesn't work correct for me either, I have a feeling it's because of the magnet placement, top left corner on the front of case. I cant use the case even without the app, as if I close it while screen on, it simulates a long press of the back and menu button.
I guess this is indeed the problem! Wasted myself $9 since I bought it from another region! I need to figure out a way to remove that glass plastic.

Funny hicckup

Ok, it was not so funny at the time, it made my heart skip.
Rooted my mate yesterday, after 4 days of struggle, and it went great - I was able to install everything back, configured it to my heart's content. Even got a new flip-case for it with a magnet, so when I open the case, the phone wakes up.
Today I could not unlock the phone! I push the fingerprint sensor, all I get is a clock on the screen. I click the power button, same thing. I rebooted it by holding down power for a long time, and same problem continues!
Drove me nuts and sent me into deep depression remembering the woes of the past 4 days.
It was then that I noticed a similarity between the clock I see when the flip-case is closed and the clock that I was seeing on the screen. It turns out, if I fold the flip case cover back, the phone senses the magnet from its back!
In other words, phone thinks the case is closed when the case cover is folded back!
I opened the flip case, and the problem went away

Need options for screen-on with cracked screen and probable proximity sensor issues

In the last two months or so I cracked my screen with the shatter/cracking starting in the upper right-hand corner of the phone. I still have not found a suitable solution for fixing the screen, I was hoping to get a solution to an issue this seems to have created where the display will not turn on.
Simply put, the screen no longer turns on unless initiated by the software with activities like "Hey Google", receiving a text/call, or plugging/unplugging the phone. The majority of the time I cannot get the phone to turn on with normal methods such as media gestures (double tap), any buttons (volume/power), fingerprint sensor are all unable to turn on the screen. Strangely, many times I will receive haptic feedback that senses the physical method I am using but the screen still fails to turn on. Squeezing the phone also doesn't work but is not desired any more as a concern for making the cracking worse.
It's a US phone, rooted, 1.30.617.2 with Magisk and Xposed. I have tried a variety of possible methods with no success including gravitybox hardware tweaks, Cleanslate kernel options, and a variety of stock options that were all unsuccessful.
My best guess is that the cracking on the screen starts in the upper right-hand corner where the proximity sensor is. It is completely shattered there and I have a clear screen protector as well. Is it possible that the proximity sensor is causing this? If so, any suggestions to disable it somehow. If not, do you think it is a damaged product or something else?
With the difficulty of getting and swapping the cracked screen, I am hoping someone can help. THANK YOU!!!
I recently just swapped the screen on mine and it was a bit of a challenge but not too difficult that I wouldn't do it again, for someone else. LOL. Anyway it might be possible to disconnect the prox sensor simply by removing the back cover and a few screws at the top of the device. Not 100 percent sure it will still work or what reaction you might get by disconnecting it, but if you're not going to replace the screen it could be worth a try. I found a couple of sellers on Ebay shortly after Christmas and considering what the phone cost, to me it was worth it to replace the screen but maybe not twice, thus my little joke earlier. There are tare down videos on YouTube if you need that kind of help.
Just checking in to see how things were going and if you tried anything? When my screen cracked I put a tempered glass screen protector on it to prevent any further damage and to prevent finger damage from the small shards that develop in the cracks. I had another phone I used tape on to pull the shards out and it ended up ruining the digitizer so this time I just covered everything up and moved on best I could. Looks like the seller I got my replacement still has some if you're thinking about replacing yours. It says New Condition but mine had definitely come from some device but whom ever removed it did an excellent job because it arrived very clean and ready to install. Getting the old screen off was the hardest part, well and finding the right adhesive to glue it back on. I wasn't able to find the G7000 glue but used F6000 which I found easily. I haven't had any issues with it since. If you want to know more about how I did it check out my thread in this forum. Here's the link to the seller.
