Can't install TWRP on S7 under OREO - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

HI all
Strange problem...
I have the latest stock firm ( G930FXXU2ERE8) installed with ODIN 3.13.1 on my S7
No problem...phone up and running
BUT I'm unable to install TWRP !!!
I've read that the TWRP to install is TWRP 3.1.0-0-herolte.img.tar..
Done with Odin 3.13.1...
Everything OK, Passed, no error....
But when reboot the phone in recovery, TWRP doesn't show up, replaced by the default OREO recovery
Are tou guys aware of such a behaviour
thks in advance for any tips

Try disabling Auto Reboot in ODIN
After the flash, disconnect USB, force power off, then boot immediately into recovery (Do not let the phone boot)
Used to work with the S5 for the same problem

That fixed the problem for me, too. Thanks a lot. Saved me tons of time, I guess. :good:

For safety, one more question about Oreo. My S7 is on Oreo. I want now to switch to LineageOS
I must do:
s7 oem unlock + USB Debugging
Download 3.13.1
Download twrp-3.2.1-1-hero2lte.img
Download LineageOS + Gapps + (magisk, when i will root)
Start Odin
TWRP to "AP" , no "Auto Reboot" and Start
After that boot manuelly in TWRP
Reboot again in Recovery
Wipe all Data
Install Lineage + Gapps + Magisk
Reboot
All ok?
I have now read a couple of times from a "no encrypt" or something like that.
Do i need something like that?
If so, which file should I download and when do I have to flash it? Many thanks in advance!

The no encrypt step is a part of the TWRP install, if you go to the TWRP install thread it has the steps including the required zips for encrypt/dm verity

I have the S7 SM-G930F. Will this process wipe all my data if root my device for the first time?

Yes, mine wiped Data on the step 4 (necessary to TWRP recognize data partition and enable flash zips):
I Got root + Xposed with Samsung Galaxy S7 SM-G930F SDK24 Android 7.0 Bootloader ver 2 with the steps below:
1- Downloaded Latest TWRP "twrp-3.2.2-0-herolte.img.tar"
2- Flashed it via Odin "Odin3 v3.13.1.exe" (Unchecked Auto Reboot)
3- Booted on the TWRP (VolDown+Home+Power to exit Download Mode, then after the screen gone blank, changed to VolUp+Home+Power)
4- Wipe > Format Data > Yes (Fix mount /data issues)
5- Reboot Recovery again
6- Flashed SuperSU Latest "SR5-SuperSU-v2.82-SR5-20171001224502.zip"
7- Reboot
8- Opened SuperSU app to test
9- Reboot Recovery
10- Flashed latest Xposed "xposed-v89-sdk24-arm64.zip"
11- Opened Xposed, APK (Showed red not installed)
12- clicked to install, gave root permissions
13- Reboot
14- Working Xposed!

Xposed is incompatible with the ART runtime. That means it won't work on Lollipop.
This thread doesn't belong in Original development, not even in Android development.

i followed your method and it kinda worked. installed recovery, system re root. installed supersu from play and it asked me to update binary. i accepted but it failed to update for some reason and asked me to reboot. i clicked reboot and got stuck at bootloop. i tried clearing dalvik and wipe data from recovery, still bootloop. so i guess it tried to modify a system file which did it wrongly and caused it to fail. either the binary isnt compatible with this rom, although it was compatible with chinese aurora 5.0.1. for now, im back to aurora. has anyone had any success rooting this? ill try tomorrow morning again. thanks

im trying some methods but i cant confirm that it will work with all of you, but try flashing this with odin download

same problem
tell us if it worked for u
For all that couldn't succeed with the original SuperSU, use this one
Flash from recovery.
Worked for me.
Had the same problem, this is how I fixed!
I followed the instructions in OP, but was stuck in boot animation.
This is what I did to finally get root.
1. Flash CF-Autoroot through ODIN.
2. It should boot, but the SuperSu app is really outdated.
3. Update SuperSu.
4. It should ask you to update the binary.
5. Try updating through the Normal method.
6. For me it failed, and the app told me to reboot and retry.
7. I rebooted the phone, but the phone was stuck in boot animation (just like with the instructions in OP).
8. (Without wiping anything) I flashed Philz Touch recovery through Odin.
9. I downloaded SuperSu app that is flashable through recovery.
10. Rebooted and finally got root!

!SOLVED! S6 stuck in bootloop after TWRP-flash ( !SOLVED !)

SOLVED!
Hey there,
i just tried flashing TWRP (twrp-3.1.0-0-zeroflte.img.tar) via Odin (Odin3_v3.12.4_4) on my Samsung Galaxy S6 on nougat 7.0 and am stuck in bootloop (GALAXY S6-Bootscreen reappearing every 6 seconds). My device is not rooted, but i do have access on TWRP 3.1.1-0 and the Download Mode. I did not care about tripping knox as PingPongRoot doesn't support my Buildnumber (yet).
Is there any way to fix the bootloop without resetting my device to stock?
I tried wiping the caches, but nothing changes.
Any help is appreciated!

System status: Official

Note:
I do have a root file (N920_Nougat_Root_SuperSU-No_kernel_included.zip) on my device that could be installed via TWRP, but that doesn't help at all, right?
Reflashing – Odin doesn't recognize S6
I tried reflashing, but Odin does not recognize the S6 at all.
No device is beeing 'added'.
Could i transfer my user data (pictures, music) via adb through twrp to my computer?
I didn't backup, stupid as i am
Problem solved!
I solved the problem by flashing the root file (N920_Nougat_Root_SuperSU-No_kernel_included.zip) via TWRP-Recovery.
After this step, the phone rebooted and all my user data remained. Root & TWRP working just fine. :good:

1. Google or baidu the following twrp unofficial build "TWRP-3.1.0-G9200-G9208-G9209-G920D-G920P.tar" (Official TWRP builds will not work because they are for G9200 HK version)
2. Open Odin 3.1x.x and and uncheck the "Auto Reboot" option
3. Put the G9200 onto download mode and flash
4. Disconnect the usb cable
5. Hold "Volume Down + Power" (Hard restart) for 5 seconds and once screen goes black immediately release and hold "Volume up + Home + Power" (Launch Recovery)
6. You should see TWRP working If you did above steps correctly.
7. Now you got TWRP but OS is stuck in bootloop.
8. Flash latest Magisk or SuperSu with TWRP.

V14 worked fine for me
It checks MD5 than says please wait and stops responding (nvm it was a bad file)
Had same problem, but more intense - my phone did not react to pressing VolumeUp+Home+Power, just bootlooped even in this mode
I don know how much time I pressed VolumeDown+Power (like 2 minutes), but eventually it just powered down
After that I was able to boot into twrp
In TWRP I flashed Magisk16 and wiped dalvik cache
Now It works
Also e2fsck'ed /dev/block/sdaSOMETHING
P.S. sorry, English is not my language
Samsung S6, cannot flash
i have samsung s6 sm-g920i, which is stuck in bootloop mode, i can however go to download mode but i can't flash it using odin with any files (stock rom, custom rom, combination file, twrp )
can't see any increase in the bar of the phone when the flashing process starts ( the phone is just as it is before no line of process increase shown), the phone is recognized by odin ( it shows added with blue line on the com part) but the problem is i can't flash anything in it.
flashing always fails.
won't go to recovery mode as well.

This is the leaked Oreo for the ATT S7 I removed all ATT stuff and fix volte calling but wificalling does not work at the moment. This is For S7 Only. It has option to choose your carrier csc files
Download:
OREO_G930_CRB9_ALL_CARRIERS_FF_INSTALL.zip
Directions:
Just note that you may end up having to wipe your internal storage so be prepared
You can try coming from your carriers firmware but if it dont work then you will need too be on Verizon Firmware either Nougat stock rooted or one of my Hybrid roms or stang5litre Nougat rom
You must be rooted with Flashfire installed
Download OREO_ALL_CARRIERS_FF_INSTALL_G935.zip and unzip Copy FF_Oreo_System_Image_G930_CRB9.tar To Internal Phone Storage
In Flashfire select add zip choose OREO_ALL_CARRIERS_G930_V2.zip select to mount system when it ask
In Flashfire select add firmware choose FF_Oreo_System_Image_G930_CRB9.tar and select system.img.ext4
Make sure inject superu is not enabled
Click to reboot to download after flash
Add Wipe choose system, data, cache and dalvik and super su images
Flash
In aroma installer choose your carrier
When Phone reboots to recovery use odin and flash BL_OREO_G930_PART_2.tar in BL slot in odin that is provided in folder
You get corrupt storage message and will have to click reset and this will wipe your internal storage
Features:
Custom Boot Animation
Add spam call blocking
Added call recording however there is no record button on call screen but auto record feature works
Added Samsung Cloud support
Added multi user suport
Added option for network speed in status bar
Removed Unneeded files and bloat
Samsung Pay works as does Secure Folder
Safetynet only partially passes this is problem with the build as even installing on stock ATT firmware it still only partially passes
Verzion Volte calling works but WifiCalling does not (other carriers I cannot confirm)
Verizon VVM works
Bugs:
BT call volume will not change Media volume seems too work fine though
Im sure there are more as this is prerelease

I didn't think of that at the time so I just went back to your hybrid rom because my phone was becoming unusable
I just installed this rom going from "stang5litre Edition 5.0 s7 N v1".
At first the Gmail and a game app kept crashing. (They were apps that were installed while on stang5litre Edition 5.0 s7 N v1)
I did a "Wipe data/factory reset" from recovery, updated all the apps from the playstore and now nothing is crashing.
Edit: Spoke too soon... Dune game is crashing after every round.

So did you not wipe with flashfire when installing? And once you wiped basic rom worked fine? I can't control 3rd party apps that's an issue with maker of app. Also are you Verizon?

Yes, I wiped with flashfire when installing. The rom seems smooth with no lag, just that 1 app crashing.

Speaking of which, Google Pay reports the device as being modified or rooted.

That’s because beta release are not certified by play store and do not pass part of safetynet check. Most safetynet apps will work though

This is working beautifully aside from Netflix and Prime video, which I suppose is to be expected.
I'm surprised at how much better it is, even as a beta.

This seems to be Samsung. All of you must remember the PIE build is built from Samsung not jrkruse, so any bugs you face on the S8+ are on them. I myself have black snapchat videos similar to the kernel issues I had with early N/O AOSP builds with the S5 and early OREO Beta builds on the S8+ snapdragon variant. To my knowledge and understanding all jrkruse has done is allowed the ability to use safe strap with PIE using Odin/Samfail and the ability to continue to use OTA updates. Am I correct @jrkruse? I'm going to reiterate here and please don't think I'm being rude but come on guys do your research. I've only had this device since February buuuut I have been on XDA longer than most of you and sorry jrkruse longer than you but I'm no dev lol. Jrkruse/partcyborg you definitely are a God send to the carrier locked phone of Samsung and I thank you for your time and effort my man. To anyone wondering I am on the sprint variant ?. I am always here to help, even the noobs and foreigners ?

Development [UNOFFICIAL][EXPERIMENT] TWRP for Galaxy Tab S7 FE

This is an unofficial and experimental build of TWRP which was tested on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE (SM-T735) model only.
I used TWRP Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ 5G device tree by ianmacd and modified it.
MTP doesn't work at the moment.
If you flash a GSI, be sure to wipe the metadata partition along with the data partition.
You might need to flash the neutralized vbmeta image.
Installing TWRP: Flash both files with Odin in the AP slot.
Kernel Source (I used the kernel which was in the stock recovery)
Device Tree Source
As always, be sure to backup your data in case something goes wrong.
Edit: I apologize to everyone for taking 1 year to update this thread.
Disclaimer:
No guarantees that everything would work. I am not responsible for any damages caused from this.
Thank You for your contribution, I hope to see a stable TWRP or other recovery
Will this work with T733?

Hello,
Yes, you can install a GSI with this, I've flashed the AOSP GSI and it worked as intended.

Can you flash these together by putting the vbmeta in userdata and TWRP in AP?

Hello,
How I had flashed these files on my tab was by flashing them one by one. Alternatively, you can flash vbmeta in the USERDATA slot.

Doing both at the same time doesn't work. Bootloop. Had to flash stock and start from scratch to get it working again. Then I flashed vbmeta which then required a factory reset. Did minimal setup and then flashed TWRP but couldn't get it to boot to recovery so TWRP got overwritten. I unchecked auto reboot in Odin prior to flash and when it finished held power and vol down till screen blanked and then switch to vol up. But when it reached the screen saying to push power to continue it didn't continue until I finally released vol up. Then it booted system instead of recovery. I held vol up for several minutes before finally releasing it.

Hello,
This requires a factory reset.
I apologize that i was not clear before but the steps i did were:
1. Reboot my tablet to download mode with adb using "adb reboot download"
2. Flash twrp in the AP slot
3. Then the tab complains about using a custom recovery, force reboot the tab and immediately boot to download mode (by holding both volume buttons and the power button)
4. Then flash vbmeta in the AP slot.
5. Finally, when the tablet automatically reboots, immediately hold the Vol Up+Power button to boot into twrp.

Tried that. Still wouldn't boot to recovery.

Hello,
Which model are you using?
It might slightly differ in the specs, if the model is SM-T733, I would suggest you try this version of TWRP instead.

Sorry, this was meant for another post.
The CPU of SM-T735 is Snapdragon 750G, and the CPU of SM-T733 is Snapdragon 778G.
Does anyone test this TWRP on SM-T733 to run?

Did you ever get TWRP to work? If so, what stock version were you running? I'm thinking I can't get TWRP to run because I'm running the latest update out right now.

AFAIK, the ONLY TWRP to work was for the T735 and it was experimental. So far, I'm happy with rooted stock. My performance and battery life seem to be great, so there isn't much pressure to improve with a custom ROM. So long as rooting is possible, you can do your own de-bloating.
