New LG G5, firmware advice? - Verizon LG G5 Questions & Answers

I just picked up a refurbed LG G5 and it is loaded with 6.0.1 dated 03-01-2016.
Seeing as how there is a huge thread on how poorly nougat is implemented on the G5.... Should I stay on 6.0.1 or apply some level of updates?
PS: I'm on pageplus so I don't think I will get OTA updates... I assume there is a method to update over USB?

I'm downloading both VS98715A (last MM) and VS9872EA (latest Nougat), along with the usb drivers and LGUP software. Unless someone suggests otherwise, my plan will be to update to the 15A for now and use the phone for awhile. I need to do some more reading about Nougat as the current threads don't exactly give me the "warm fuzzies".
Let me know if you are happy with Nougat...
PS. My Galaxy S5 is still on a rooted version of Lollipop so even MM will be a bit of an upgrade.

LG G flex 2 H950 stuck on 5.0.1

Is there any way to flash 5.1.1 to my g flex 2? I just opened a brand new one yesterday, and I keep checking for updates and even though it is on 5.0.1, it still says no updates available. I noticed the 5.1.1 rooted system you can flash here on xda, and that is what I would like to do, can I flash it even though I am currently only running 5.0.1? Or do I have to upgrade to 5.1.1 first?
You could read a little bit more through the forum but here you have. you can follow this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/kdz-compatible-att-h950-t3180847 If you are in EEUU then I guess it will be easier for you to get the ATT 5.1.1 update but in case you are not like many of us then this is the fastest and easier solution.

What is the process for Android Updates?

Hey guys. I was wondering, what is the process for android firmware updates? By this I mean, when I owned an iPhone (any model) after I updated the firmware there seemed to be remnants of the old firmware version and it would cause issues through the phone, at which point I would have to go on my computer, restore to the newest firmware essentially formatting the phone and re-uploading the new firmware on the phone. After that all was fine. Is this necessary on android in order to get a new, clean version of the firmware on the phone or does the update process do this throughout the installation? I haven't had any issues yet with the newest AT&T Nougat update, but I was just thinking about this and figured I'd ask before anything did happen, if it's like my old iPhones...
BTW, I'm on AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 with Nougat 7.0

VS99516B update

Didn't see any threads or posts on this one yet. Anyone get the update yet? Android version still says 7.0
718.5 MB is a pretty big file.
Droid- Life just said it's the September security patch, but I got this from LG.

Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update for your device. This software update has been tested to help optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches. The latest software for the LG V20 for Verizon Wireless is software version VS99516B.
I'm attempting a rollback to 13A, was on 16B (I took the OTA) to run the exploit to gain root access. Looks like it is successful... Will post back if it is not.
Anyone found a KDZ of 16B? I am using a US996 and I flashed the system and kernel from a VS995 with LGUP to use it better on Verizon. So I need a KDZ to update further.

US Galaxy S8+ OTA software update not working / alternative way. SOLVED

What I want to do: I was trying to OTA update my phone software to the latest, but it seems I am behind on many updates. On the AT&T website, I saw that I need the previous updates installed first, in order to get the latest ones. I have to go in order.
Problem: Everytime I try to do a software update from the settings, it says “Current software is up to date.” It’s been saying that for over a year now. I can’t even get the updates from last year.
So is there a way I can flash one of the stock firmware updates from last year on to my phone with Odin and see if it will fix the ‘over the air’ updates? Or can I just skip to the most recent firmware and flash that one.
By the way, I have never done anything like this to my phone before, so I am a bit nervous, but I want to get this problem fixed so I would love if someone helped me out. I did see some articles online about flashing stock firmwares, that’s how I learned about Odin.
If this is doable, can someone please link me to a thorough tutorial on this process? If it isn’t, can you guys recommend another way of getting to the latest 8.0 stock firmware?
My phone right now:

Android version: 7.0
Baseband version: G955USQS1AQF7

If you are using the AT&T S8+ outside of the USA, you will not get any OTA updates due to AT&T update policy. What you want to do is flash the Unlocked firmware and you will be good. Search for carrier switching thread and follow it.

Thanks for responding!
I managed to flash an older firmware from 4 months ago and I was able to OTA update to the recent one. https://forum.xda-developers.com/at...lternative-t3844887/post77673505#post77673505

Sent from my LG-H910 using XDA Labs
Took the download and update - and lost VoLTE (Verizon). Old shortcut app doesn't work to enable it.

On mine: Anti-rollback Version= APPSBL(LK) : 0, SBL1 : 0, TZ : 0, RPM: 0
Not sure what that means...
What's the consensus ? Go or No-go?
Any one care to share their experience? How is it? Everything working? Anything broken(other than the Volte that was mentioned earlier)? Any quirks? Upgrades*(better battery life, more fluid performance, etc) ?
I got a notification the other day for the update too on my US996, but I didn't want to mess up a "good thing", haha... or more over, my V20 is running relatively fine on android 7 for now, thought I'd wait and see feedback before I touch the waters...thanks to those brave pioneers out there who fearlessly try out the latest and greatest updates.
Never rooted it.. and kept to stock firmware.
Everything is working so far on Verizon - once I got VoLTE back (see above - and that would be a deal breaker for me - I was prepping to roll it back). For now - I'd say it's a go.. but I'm also already committed.
My advice - you waited this long.. give it another week or two...
My battery is still settling in for Oreo. Once it settles that I should get more battery Screen on Time.
Overall, its an amazing experience.
Chipster0 and YPG70, thanks for the feedback. I suppose I'll wait a little longer before I upgrade, good to hear that everything seems to be positive; a real upgrade, rather than an "upgrade" that messes things up.
Anyone have any ideas why my unlocked US996 isn't getting an update notification? I'm on AT&T network (if that matters). In fact I'm running 99610d. Security patch of Oct. 1 2016. I thought there was a security update more current than that.
I did try LG bridge before Jan 2019 and it didn't report any new security updates. I'm yet to try LG Bridge now that it seems oreo is finally being rolled out on US 996. I was trying to avoid LG Bridge because I want to avoid losing all my settings (which I believe will happen when you go the LG Bridge route).
Thanks
EDIT: I just ran LG Bridge, and it reports back with "your phone is up to date". When I click OK, and the "your phone is up to date" window disappears, I am then presented with what looks like there is indeed a "new version" dating 12.11.2017. However, it states that I must go to the Update Center settings on my phone to do the update. But when I do that, my phone says I'm on the latest...
Ended up online chatting with LG support. Spoke with two of them who were adamant that LG doesn't push OTA firmware's and that it must be through the carrier (despite my phone being the unlocked version). They also said LG Bridge is for Android 6.0 and lower (despite LG bridge being the software specified at the v20 US 996 website). Anyway, with ridiculous statements like that, I knew I wasn't going to get any help from them. I ended up downloading the firmware from the link (thanks!) and using uppercut to flash the downloaded. So I'm happy to report that I am now running Oreo and haven't encountered any issues so far.
Can this be safely installed on US996 UCL?
