Good day!
I was about to setup my google pay, but i did not find it in my settings. In fact, i can't even download it from the google store, it says that my device is not suitable for that. Even tho in my settings(wireless and network) i can find a tab "tap and pay" and use either "cards" app or "google pay" as default. But how can i set it up?
Thanks
Is your bootloader unlocked? Might not be able to even install it if it is.
have you managed to fix it? this should work by default with stock OS/locked BL

We all know that Google exists by spying on people's personal information. IMO letting them have access to your financial details through Google Pay would be a huge mistake. So be glad if it doesn't work.

Well that's not sensationalism or very nanny of you at al Google exists by selling ads, not spying. They use the information you provide to Target ads, so you get things that might appeal to you, and they get more money per view/click.
Why would allowing someone to download and use an app hurt you? Why should I not be allowed to use an app just because your a paranoid person?

Hhm, that is superwierd, cuz i do not have one. Maybe it depends on my location? I am from Estonia, EU. Still can not manage it to work, and even my "Cards" app seems not to work on any of store's terminals i tried. COuntry issue?

Did it worked before? I see Estonia not on the list of contries eligible of Google pay.

Also Estonian guy.
Never got it to work at home.... Then while traveling to Norway. It suddenly asked if I want to add a card and it became active.
So it is location-based it seems

No APK that I know of. It's actually a really easy fix though. I was a little uneasy doing it but once I went through the process it was easy.
I did the wallet fix yesterday and I had lunch at McDonalds thanks to Google. Read the post and follow the directions as described. Good luck!
Awesome... Thanks guys

Wallet problem
Greetings everyone!
A little background first. Verizon SGS3, rooted and unlocked, but still on stock TW.
I completed the steps in the above mentioned thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769083, and everything seems to be working ok. I have made a few purchases and it works, however I am thinking something is wrong.
Let me explain. When I go to make a purchase, it will make the POS machine flash/beep, etc., but then shows on my screen that the trans. may not be good/complete. The cashier continues the sale like normal, the receipt prints and all is good, but it just takes a min standing in line to make sure that all is well. Then after a while, the trans will show up in Wallet (on the phone) in the list.
Is this normal for you all?
Second thing is that I can't see my Google PrePay card in the online Wallet page. I can see the other cards that I have added in both places, phone and online, but I can't manage the new card that was given when I signed up. Therefore, I am stuck adding funds on the phone.
Should I do a reset? Will this lose the $ that I have added to the PrePay card, or will it magically pick it back up when I re-setup Wallet on the phone? I have read that I need to write down the card number (user ID) in case you need it, and I assume that this is one of those times.
Any ideas?
TIA for the help.
I'm not seeing it either unfortunately. I was just getting ready to try the workaround & then saw your post. Oh well, guess I'll still try the workaround.
Is it possibly just a regional thing? I read somewhere that they were getting ready to roll out ISIS in a couple of markets soon - is it possible that they unblocked Wallet in those markets to avoid the 'how do you justify blocking wallet as a security concern if you're now allowing ISIS' question?
Dunno.

There is a post in the general area about it thats where I heard it from but here is the link. When I go to the link it knows I have it installed properly it may take a bit before our S3's see it...

it does say it's not available on my carrier for everything but my S3 thats where it's installed the XDA way. but thats funny because my tablet is WI-Fi only so it should be able to install it to my tab...Check the general section...
I just activated the free trial after following the instructions in the first post of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1757991
I did have to input a new payment method in Google Wallet, and even though there was only US based addresses it accepted my address (I used the Zip Code and phone number for the Empire State building!). I was fully expecting it to fail, but it works, and my gmail account now has the All Access trial attached to it.....

Tried it yesterday and giving it another go now. Struggling at the point when I click the free trial banner, it constantly takes me to my music library. No prompt for payment or even starting the trial. I managed to activate my account through a VPN a few months ago without any problems, but trying to get this pass is proving to be a right pain.
I did it via the web page, not on my phone.

I've been doing the same.
Changed my payment method's address (the zip code / state at least) to an American one but still no luck.
Just managed to do it. You have to edit an EXISTING card just by changing the address. Adding a new card with an American address didn't work.
Just change the address on any existing card you have, start the trial, and then change it back.
Is this not going to cause problems on the account when it officially launches in the UK? I've found that kind of thing before.
worked well for me!
Confirmed working here. Signed up through US VPN, Tesco's credit card, and Empire State Building zip code/tel no.
Peachy.
What do you think will happen if I leave it to run past the free trial. Will I get charged in US dollars? Might be cheaper than getting ripped off when it comes legit to the UK.

.
I'm not sure, but if they didn't do a full check including address when the payment method was set up, I don't think they will for such a small payment. I also think $7.99 (£5.25) will be considerably less than the UK subscription.
I guess that since I signed up using a US VPN, the transaction was conducted via a US website and hence not subject to UK fees. You know, a bit like taxes. I mean, if it's good enough for Google...
Worked for me. Nice one

I have a feeling I know why I can't get it working.
I still have a remaining £0.08 Google Play balance on my account (from the Nexus 7 promotion) and so I can't change my account's default location (in the settings menu on Wallet). I have followed everyone's steps rigorously and I still don't even get past the initial "Sign up" banner.
It's the only thing I can think of.

Cool thanks - wondering how this would work with an iPhone... does it work running on the mobile version of the site or is it limited to the Google app?
It runs through the desktop site and the app, as long as you have signed up to the subscription I can't see why it wouldn't work on the mobile website too.

How do you guys even bother with such a crappy cell phone provider? Blocking boot-loaders, and blocking google hangout now? What the hell?
I am with Telus in Canada and they allow eveything.
well, they dont really have a choice, we might have unlocked bootloader and our carriers dont block much but they do own our ass a full year longer than in the US
GTalkEnabler , it's in the market and it allows gtalk and hangout video chating over 3g/4g
retested it with the new Hangouts
also I thought that was Google's doing, didn't know carriers can control such features within someone else's app o.o

Nope, it was AT&T's doing. Just like they did with the Iphone's facetime. If they can do it to Apple, they can definitely do it to Google...

it is, but by ATTs request. Just like they requested wallet not to be accessible for ATT users, just like they asked samsung to block the dropbox promo, they ask and others do

I still don't know why Google complies with these "requests", they should just tell the carriers to pack sand and release the apps (or features) anyways.
I literally just did a hangout on the way home yesterday over mobile data. Is this an updated version of Google+? Maybe I won't update.
Nevermind- just followed the links and saw that this is the *new* hangout app which is going to replace Talk apparently. What I'm not clear about is whether this replaces the Talk apk or the Google+ current apk?
Did some more reading. So this is in fact a Talk replacement. From the Play Store:
First, title is Hangouts (replaced Talk)
and then
NOTE: If you aren't yet able to install Hangouts on your phone or tablet, or the Play Store "Open" button takes you to the old Talk app, hang tight, we are rolling out Hangouts to everyone over the course of several days. Rest assured Hangouts will be available soon for all Android 2.3+ devices, tablets included!
So they will push this out to all. Not really a big deal since you couldn't video with talk right now anyway. But from an integration perspective it sucks. I'm wondering why AT&T would block this and still allow the google+ app to do hangouts over their network. They must assume that many more would use this over the Google+ app.
It also notes that there will be no "invisible" mode. Kinda stupid to take that away. I use it all the time. I hope they don't force the updates.

ATT is the client here...i dont agree with their policies but it is in their full right to make those demands. Imagine if you have kids, and you dont want your kids to go on X and Y sites, well you can ask the provider to block those websites. The kids might not agree with their parents but the fact is, it is their rights. And before the trolls come in and start saying that this and that doesnt hold up in my story, please, shhhhush, it's an analogy of principale and not a fact.
Does anyone know how to force the Hangouts update? I still have Talk and I can't figure out how to update to Hangouts. I can't from play via browser or the play app.
I found a APK online and when I try to install, it says "did not update" or something. I checked "install from other sources", but it didn't help.

I could see that argument maybe if you are talking about subsidized phones which (again arguably) are leased from the carrier, but the same restrictions apply if you have bought your phone outright.
In this instance (or in the case of Wallet) Google is a 3rd party software developer, to try for a similar analogy it's if my kids teacher told the grocery store not to sell me certain foods because they don't want my kid eating them.

yes, but an outright phone is still "renting" service from ATT regardless. Its like when you buy or rent a modem from an internet company, or a car, or anything else for that matter, if the provider said no, then you wont get your candy. in any case, we have already determined that ATT are aholes, they block so much good stuff for their clients, i'm speaking about tethering, facetime and other, i dont know why US carriers are like that but here in canada, we dont have all those restrictions, and we are just north of you, we technically can share line and service...

Ok, so this was a huge problem on the Mediapad X1. Where huawei's memory manager kills apps in the background. Why do we need task killers today Huawei? Please stop
On the Mediapad X1 there were a bunch of apps like Google Hangouts that would get killed even though you tell it not to get killed via "Protected Apps", having your texting app not run in the background is bad as you can imagine. So now I have an X2 and it seems like this Protected App thing actually works better, however I noticed today that the bluetooth services were getting killed in the background as it would not pair with my car until I turned on the screen. Because these are built in services you can't "Protect" them.
Just posting this here so hopefully Huawei can see it and fix it
But seriously, they should just use the memory manager built into android and not try to monkey around with, we don't need task killers any more.

I have had Textra recommended to me as a work-around for MMS texting glitches. I am used to that now and will try it but if I have problems I will try your app. By tweaks I just meant that so much of what most of you do is not what a "regular" cell phone user would know. I had no idea there were memory manager things I might need to address. (I haven't done that before). That is why I am here. To learn about new things and to be prepared as much as possible for when (at this point it is "if") my 702L gets here!

You have to go into startup manager and check each app, protected apps and trust each application, add it to startup, and in permission manager you have to trust each application. I agree though, I wish this didn't exist as there's no need for it. If you're rooted you can take it out but you'll lose the Do Not Disturb mode as it is baked into it.

I was rooted on the X1 and getting rid of the Power Manager still made stuff die in the background, it was pretty irritating. So far with the X2 it mostly works. As far as I can tell only bluetooth dies (Which I can't add to any of those apps as its a system app)
The X2 is such a better phone than the X1. I hope Huawei keeps on top of bug fixes. With a generic android memory manager this phone would be truly awesome.

I got my X2 today from fashioncoconuts on eBay and everything is good. It even came unlocked. I'm liking these eBay sellers.
Edit: after I did a factory reset it said the bootloader was locked. Now when I use Google Maps it tells me I must update my Google Play Services. When I do my Google Account Disappears and my Play Store doesn't open. I'm beginning to dislike Huawei's implementation of their apps. Blocking certain apps from being installed is totally lame on Huawei's part. Now the waiting game begins for my unlock code. I'm giving them three days. If not both phones are going on eBay and I'm done with Huawei. Rant over.

Yeah. They told me they shipped it out on the 5th and didn't until the 15th. Now I know why. They raised the price too right after I bought it. A lot of these eBay sellers jack the price up way too high. No one should pay more than $399 for it. I'm just glad it came already unlocked. It seems Huawei is no longer sending emails to people with the unlock codes anymore.

But I noticed the Lux (screen brightness app) had stopped in the background.
Services shutting down in the background was a huge issue on the X1 and for the most part seems to work on the X2 but it seems some things still get killed in the background once in a while even though they are "Protected Apps"
I'll keep monitoring and see if I notice anything else...
I am looking forward to unlock the bootloader on Huawei P40 Pro and install some custom ROM like Pixel Experience in order to use Google apps services. Is that possible? Because Huawei don't have Gapps service due to US ban.
Bootloader is locked and Huawei stopped giving codes a couple of phone's ago so not much chance of any modding I'm afraid

I am looking forward to unlock the bootloader on Huawei P40 Pro and install some custom ROM like Pixel Experience in order to use Google apps services. Is that possible? Because Huawei don't have Gapps service due to US ban.

There are plenty of guides to get Google services without unlocking

That's right, I also have all my Google apps like Maps, YouTube, Play Store up and running fine on the P40 Pro.
But there's one detail missing: "OK Google/Hey Google" working on the lockscreen. That's the only thing I miss, but it's badly missing as I used that feature quite frequently.
Would be nice if there was an app (or a launcher) "just" listening for that keywords and firing up Google Assistant.
By the way: I just do not understand Huawei's move of ceasing to give away bootloader unlock codes. Would be such a simple way of bypassing that "Make Apple first again campaign" trade embargo and skyrocketing Huawei's sales figures. I just don't get it.

Because then we could get rid of all that Chinese "spyware" the Trump administration says is on there. And we have absolutely no reason whatsoever to disbelieve them.

Which method is most reliable? It seems like every other day theres a "new" way to do it, which works 100%. Except for GPS and verification popups every millisecond.

Yeah just like with atomic bombs USA said Iran have. SO they invaded it. USA companies spy on users too. Anyway without google services (ant there is no way how to make them work, google play is NOT google services, sync is) and without ability to unlock bootloader HUAWEI became WORST phone manufacturer you can buy.
its so stupid to rely on one service

Bootloader unlocking is for enthusiasts and developers which make up a tiny percentage of users. So no, definitely not the "worst".
I need android auto to work on my phone...My car needs it! I cannot use navigation without it...

SO what? unlocked bootloader should be default IMO. or at least possibility to unlock it. I've bought device it should be mine, not some companies property. Chinese phones becoming garbage like apple products.
Thanks very much is working in p40 lite e put no install in the P30 pro
