Sim card desconnecting on it's own - Xiaomi Mi Note 3 Questions & Answers

I'm experiencing random disconnections with my sim card. At first I thought it was bad contact so I put a little piece of folded paper and it helped, but I'm still having the problem...it mostly happens when I'm playing Lineage 2 Rev.
Anyone having the same issue? I'm currently with the lastest MIUI update.

I'm going through the same problem, but a little worse.
In addition to having several consecutive drops of signal, in places that had signal (even if a little weak) with Mi note 3 is absolutely no signal at all.
I have a redmi note 3 and with it works perfectly.
It's very sad that.

I'm still trying to pinpoint the issue. Another lead I have is that it maybe has something to do with the heat? Were you charging or performing any intensive task during your disconnections?

So .. I researched and I think in fact for being a matter of not having all the bands available for Brazil.
Come on..
At home it works the 3g of the live normally of VIVO in my redmi note 3, of the Mi note 3 blue, not only works when I leave, as if it only managed to catch signal of some specific antennas I do not know until where this is certain because I do not know.
Another thing I noticed is that it takes the 4g, OK, but in some places like in my office if it enters 4G the interent does not work anymore, the 4g is there but not connected, if I put 3g as a preference the internet works normal, and in other places like in the restaurant that lunch, it takes 4g signal and the internet works perfect, a lot of crazy ....

That's an interesting theory, but I guess it's not related. According to the gsmarena catalog, if anything the MN3 supports all bands the RN3 implents, plus one more. Can you share where you found this info?

Try cleaning the contacts on the sim card with acetone, or similar cleaning liquid with no oils in it.

Intermittent connectivity issues

Every so often my M8 will basically become disconnected from the network. This NORMALLY appears when I'm in a low coverage zone, and it's as if my phone just doesn't want to reconnect when I get back into a higher coverage area.
For instance at my gym, I frequently get a weak signal, but it's usually 4G. Sometimes it'll drop to 3G, and then sometimes when I get back into an area of the gym that has 4G coverage my phone will say it's still on 3G. However, there's actually no connectivity at all, and I need to either reboot or toggle airplane mode to get a connection again.
Sometimes (at least 2-3 times in the last week) it happened while, at least to the best of my knowledge, I was in a 4G area (though with weak coverage) the entire time. Again I fixed it each time by toggling airplane.
Has anyone else seen an issue like this? It's frustrating as hell. And more importantly has anyone heard of a fix for this?

Yep, actually I had a thread about this a while back; I tried just about everything (other ROMs, new sim cards, factory resets, the whole shebang) and my only solution so far (if you intend on keeping your current phone) is to completely unroot my phone, along with removing all root-related applications (namely Xposed). It still happens from time to time, but a lot less frequently then when rooted and running Xposed modules. I have a new phone coming in today from Verizon, so hopefully that unit will not have any of these issues... I still am not entirely sure what causes it, though it is definitely exacerbated by Xposed. Hopefully some of this helps? If you have any further questions feel free to ask, either through PM or this here thread.

I have a new phone now, and so far I haven't experienced any data connectivity issues. This morning I did notice that my SMS were not sending properly, but that issue has since faded away, so hopefully it was Verizon network based... Anyways, I will try reinstalling Xposed and a couple modules later today (likely Snapshare and the Sense 6 Toolbox) and will report back sometime tomorrow or the next on how it goes. Fingers crossed...

Lol, so after installing Xposed, I suddenly started having issues maintaining a solid 4G connection; 3G works fine, just whenever I do manage to connect to 4G I am unable to use any data (says I am connected to the mobile network, but I do not get any upload or download data movement). Even after removing Xposed and all associated modules, I am still experiencing this problems. I am going in today/Monday to get a new SIM card (hopefully this is what is causing my issues) but goddamn I just cannot seem to catch a break in terms of my phones' data connection. If the above doesn't work I may have to send for another phone, though after having now received three replacements this entire process is getting a little irksome... I really do love this phone, but it seems as if it is my M8 is rejecting my love from every angle.
UPDATE: The new SIM didn't do anything, I still am having 4G issues, so another phone it is...

a lot of feedback on the web across multiple carriers of the poor lte signal retention on this phone.....this is starting to sound like a hardware defect or a major "radio" software glitch.

I dumped mine could not handle it anymore get rid of it before you loose any more money. I have had a lot of phones when there bad from the start they don't usually get any better. The Droid Bionic being the only exception.

I had the same problem with my new M8 when travelling from/to areas with low or no data coverage back to areas where I knew there was a LTE signal. Only toggling Airplane Mode would make the data reconnect. That problem was solved for me with a new sim card.
I also had very bad data connectivity at home in a major southern California city (best was -105 dBm) whereas I got up to -83 dBm in some rural town in Arizona.
Read trook's posts #34 and up here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53838257
Some of these problems may be connected to the new data service VZW is rolling out.
I would wait a few weeks before ditiching this phone. 'Cause it rocks!!!

it has nothing to do with the AWS rollout - i have a Verizon Galaxy S5 sitting right next to my M8 ---- guess what - consistent data speeds on the s5 (15 mbs down)......on the m8 (3-4mbs down) - and the data flucutates and in the signal meter , I'm getting about -6db less on the M8 than the s5.
trust me, i so desperately want to keep this phone, b/c quite frankly, i hate the amoled screen on the s5, but alas, i cant keep a phone that doesn't work well

Did you have to do that?! You just ruined my evening! That's really not what I wanted to hear!

Now I have to re-think this purchase 'cause I use my phone 80% for data related functions!
But thanks anyway for posting. Even if it hurt...

yes - sorry bro - i'm quite disappointed by what i am seeing with my own two eyes as well as all the others across the US and the rest of the world who are experiencing the SAME symptoms. so this is not a verizon network issue --
me thinks its a faulty radio which is causing bad handoffs between 3g and 4g (LTE). once the phone drops down to 3g, it never regains 4g signal for some reason. also, there is the issue of the constant signal fluctuations even when the phone is on LTE...so who knows. maybe combo of bad radio and poor quality antenna module.
i'm not a phone engineer but i have enough common sense and knowledge about phones to know a lemon when i see one......so, yup, i'm keeping the s5 and return the m8 tomorrow under the 14 day guarantee from verizon. shame....

To tell the truth I have been reading about the same issue on the general M8 forum - probably just didn't want to make the connection.... So thanks for opening my eyes.
I'm hoping for bad radio software that may get fixed with some future update (although my 6th sense tells me it's the bad antenna module....)
Too late for me for a clean exchange. Gonna have to read the Squaretrade fine print.....

Cell Reception

I've noticed a strange behavior with my T-Mobile V20. It really likes to drop service and then show a loading symbol for a bit before locking onto a signal again.
Usually the current reception is weak (1 bar), but not always. Sometimes it does it when I have 2-3 bars of LTE, just to switch down to 5 bars 2G.
There are also times when it'll show that I have 3-4 bars of voice reception, but the status will say "Searching" and calls won't work. Rebooting will make LTE appear.
Is this normal behavior? I just got this phone, and it's also the phone I used to switch off Verizon. T-Mobile definitely has better coverage where I am, but that's only when it isn't dropping the signal.
I have the same issue with my LG V20 phone. The reception/signal strength is horrible. Callers constantly complain that my phone goes in an out, making it difficult to maintain a conversation. Bluetooth connectivity is also an issue as connecting the device requires multiple attempts. This phone is becoming useless due to the reception and Bluetooth connectivity issues. I will continue to use my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 as a backup. I have never experienced any such issues while using the Samsung device. Hopefully the developers at LG are taking notes and a fix/update will be released before 2017.

I haven't had problems with Bluetooth; in fact, I've had the opposite; Bluetooth works nicely.
I hate to say it, but I haven't actually made a call on my phone yet, so I can't comment on that, but you seem to be having it much worse than I am.

What kind of case are you using? It sounds like you have something blocking the signal (your case), you have multiple, defective radios in your device, or something -- in the area within which you operate your phone -- is interfering with the signal. I am not experiencing those issues at all, and neither is my wife (we're both using US996).
Good luck in any case. Your phone not working correctly is a horrible experience.

Well now that CM14.1 is for all Snapdragon variants, we've got some new helpers.
So I've figured out at least one of the signal oddities. I'm going from one bar on LTE on T-Mobile to roaming on AT&T. I was able to use the app LTE Discovery to see that I was on AT&T's LTE B17 (which isn't even listed as supported on the H918). The phone was just disabling voice and data.
My cell reception seems normal for tmobile(which is mostly not good in my area) but the weird thing is on bluetooth. When i bend down at work with my phone in my pocket the BT signal get choppy. Like im compressing the antenna or something. Weird.

You could take a look at the FCC test for BT https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/repo...on_id=Yart0xj3tUt4f53nf7wvbQ==&fcc_id=ZNFH918
I found out that this phone is rated for LTE B13 from there. Looks like it supports a lot more bands than LG or T-Mobile say, since even the FCC doesn't include B17.

Weak phone signal strength

As per title, i'm only getting 2 out of 5 bars for carrier signal. I live in an urban area so cell reception is not an issue. Previous phone had no issues whatsoever.
Note is using an esim, would this affect anything?
Info: Carrier is Optus (Aus)
It shouldn't but perhaps also try a physical sim as a process of elimination.
What's your signal like away from home as it could be a mast issue.
Also try resetting your network connection in settings.
A Samsung Experience Store or Samsung Service Centre can take a look.

Haven't tried your first 2 suggestions but will do it soon.
Have reset network connection, no change.
No Samsung centre/store where I live unfortunately.
Are you measuring the bars on the status bar as your guide , if so then it's flawed method. Signal strength is measured in -dbm . Use an app like Network signal info lite to compare the actual figures with the past devices.
I had to go to Verizon and get a new sim card after the 5G update no more issues with my signal.
Its a normal thing for Samsung's. They've had weaker signals compared to other phones since the note 9. I have all the note variants and I have 4 lines I use with one plus, sony and note 10+ and n20u, samsung easily has the worst signal.
I've upgraded from note 9 to the note 20 ultra 5g
Noticed the 2 signal bars myself on the note 20
Were as my note 9 was always full bars everywhere I went i would get a good reception esp for the net it never let me down
im on three uk
Over the past few days on my note 20.. Internet has been ****e and slow.
I've tried changing from 5g to 4g still same
Been on phone to three had a replacement sim activated.. still same ...maybe give it a day to settle down..
My dbm are - 112 I'm a rural area near Manchester...
Reading around about these readings that's pretty naff.. have I got this wrong the lower dbm supposed be better than a higher reading?
For those wondering.. settings> about phone>status> sim card status.....
I've 2 more days before I have the 14 days cancel return..
I'm just wondering if the signal bars a myth only being 2
Am I over looking things ?
Other than the signal I have no issues love this phone ..
Any input will be taken on board and appreciated
Thanks for looking and helping

My dBm would also hit the lows of -114dbm as well at my place of residence. Both the snapdragon and exynos models I’ve owned. The Oneplus 8 pro showed on average 6dBm gain .
Well it appears my phone is faulty had nothing but issues today and it happened whilst on to my provider three UK..
Onkybhd it 2 weeks tried making me taking it to Samsung.. he'll noo ..I know they'll say nowt wrong with ot as per usual
. Three re sending me a replacement handset tomorrow.. if that's ****e as well.
Looks like I shall have to look else were always had sammy..
Had anyone got any good advice what I should get next best / alternative to a note 20..
I'm.not that familiar with other bands as I've always been faithful with Samsung..

I already mentioned it. Oneplus 8 Pro model IN2023 since you're in the UK, else you'll have network incompatibilities.
Hi all hope we're safe and well
Just a quick update
New phone received yesterday
So far so good Signal working perfect now
Thanks for input limey
Looked at the one plus looks a decent piece of kit

Question Data connection very slow

Hello, i finally bought a ROG Phone ZS673KS WW from a big electronic store franchise in my country, and the phone is working like a charm, but since the first moments i booted it up, i noticed that the 4G connection works really slow.
I did some tests in places I know for sure that got good band coverage (like at home and at my workplace) using the ROG Phone, my latest phone (a OnePlus 6) and another old smartphone i had laying around at home, and i saw that all the smartphones connect to the same band, and get the same coverage, but the ROG Phone get the download speed decimated for whatever reason (literally, it gets barely 10mbps while the other 2 phones get 100-120mbps).
Online i couldn't find any solution about that beside the suggestion to try and swap the SIM slot, but that didn't help, same results.
What can I do to solve that deal breaking problem?
Thanks in advance for the help, have a nice weekend everyone!!

Have you installed the Sim card, then turn off the phone for 1 minute then turn it back on?

what happens if you turn off 5G? Unless 5g is already disabled.
I'll look at more info on the hardware specs for the different phones you have. I am not sure if they cheaped out on the antenna or not for the ROG 5 phone or not.
I know if you cover the antenna it messes up the signal.
It could also be the mode you phone is on. If your phone is set to save battery, it might not be using as much power through the antenna. Try messing with the setting and checking to see if any setting or hand placements actually affect the signal strength and data capability of your phone.
I did some test and I think it has to do with how the phone determines which data connection to use, so it is most likely a software issue rather than a hardware one. It does not use the actual fastest connection but rather it uses the highest level of connection.
Ex. If 5g is available even though it is slower, it will choose to run on 5g. If 4g is the highest connection you have, it will attempt to run on 4g. I ran my phone on 3/ 2G and had faster connections than with 4g or 5g.
It could also be based on signal strength rather than signal level. That being said, if the 4g or 5g connection is over crowded by users, using 3g/2g will be faster and more reliable than using 4g or 5g, but due to the signal strength being so high makes the phone chose the slower 4g/5g connection.
Since the volume of phones they create aren't as large as many other companies, I have a feeling they did not put much effort into this area of the phones software as other, more commonly used brands have.

Yeah, tried disabling 5G (since where I live 5G doesn't exist yet) and that didn't change anything. Mmmmh if it's a software problem, sounds like something that could be potentially solved, but how this, if i tested it, and different phones connect to the same 4G band, and give a different result?

I assume that using a different phone using the same band and service indicates that either the antenna or the software is the issue.
It could be either the antenna or the software and I don't know a solution for either. It is possible if they did tune the software, they could potentially increase power to the antenna and increase it's output power at the cost of battery. I tried testing having my body close and far from the phone and it look like there wasn't much of a difference in signal strength.

Question Pixel 7 Pro losing cellular connection and unable to reconnect

I live in Boston metro area with abundant LTE/5G coverage, but drive through two nearly dead zones, each of them lasts just a few seconds. My previous phone would not stop YouTube playback going through those areas. My Pixel 7 Pro loses connection for ~5 minutes completely and then reconnects via EDGE even though strong 5G is available. I have to toggle the airplane mode for it to connect to the correct network.
I'm on Mint/T-Mobile and this has been happening every day. Is it a software bug or is my Pixel defective? Thanks for any ideas, I still have a week to decide if I should return it
I used to have this same exact issue with my pixel 6 pro and wouldn't be fixed no matter what I did. I traded it in for my p7p and haven't had that issue since. You should replace it while you can and hopefully it won't happen again
I have the same problem. Whenever there's a slight interruption of service the Pixel can't reconnect for minutes. I have to enable and disable airplane mode a couple times.
Bonus, if I just leave it it disconnects from the network randomly. I miss A LOT of calls. And people tell me that the calls take a long time to connect either way.
I'll be returning it if it doesn't get an update in a week or so.

I don't know if this will help, but...
I believe EDGE uses 2G. Maybe turn off "Allow 2G" in Settings>Network & internet>Sims>Allow 2G. Hopefully this will stop it from connecting to EDGE and instead connect back to your strong 5G or LTE.
Thanks, I'll give it a shot.
It still takes a long time before it connects to the 2G network and all I see is an exclamation mark next to zero bars.
If you have taken the .031 update, which fixed that issue for me, then it's possible you may have a defective unit. I have had zero issues with signal handoff and I'm even taxing the modem even more by running dual SIM in DSDS mode. I have been incredibly happy with this device's reception. I would even say it's been better than my OnePlus 9 with the X60 modem as 5G standby drained my battery super fast, about 1.6%/hr in a high signal area, compared to half that on my 7 Pro with dual SIM active.
The system is up to date. Not sure what else I can do. I'm not interested in installing unstable nightly updates.

I got my phone on release day and there was an update waiting to go to TD1A.220804.031. Until I took that update I was seeing that ! every 10 minutes or so. It was pretty bad. Haven't seen it since unless I'm switching my SIMs around.

Oh I'm on the beta as Android Auto wouldn't work on that one. It got better after I reset Carrier Services but it still has issues.
I'm losing calls, they just don't connect, even on 4G LTE with full bars. A friend has the same thing. These things are not ok.

I'm on the beta as well and still having no connectivity problems so I guess I should consider myself lucky. The worst I have is some outsized drain when I have a weak signal but it's still not terrible (about 2.2%/hr in my partner's basement).

This issue happens to me from time to time too. Weird but mine shipped with .031 (picked up on 10/21 at best buy). But I guess it was worse before that.
Were you able to fix this? I have the same issue, the phone is just unusable. Such a shame as I really like the device...
I came from a OnePlus 8 Pro (what a great phone BTW), and found the Pixel 6 Pro had worse connectivity. The Pixel 7 Pro seems to have fixed all that and some bluetooth issues I was having with certain headsets on the Pixel 6 Pro.
One trick on any modern 5G phone -- if you are having issues -- the switching between 5G, 5G UC, and LTE can be disruptive. If this is constantly happening just switch it to LTE, chances are you'll get better reception and at the same or even faster speeds.
For example, a Six Flags a few weeks ago, 5G was constant problems while forcing LTE worked fine 100% of the time.
I've tried switching off 5g, switching off 2g, switched off adaptive connectivity...no results, still useless

How about your APN settings? Have you tried a network reset? If none of those things helps you may have a defective phone! It can happen with any brand.

Yes, tried resetting the APN as well, also swapped esim and sim to another phone and works flawlessly...it may be a defective unit but there are many users complaining so there has to be a lot of defective units...

Well, I am not using an esim with a psim. Only a psim here and running on Mint (T-Mobile) and I have zero issues. Either some setting, or conflicting network settings between the two sims...OR a defective phone is your issue. I would bet dimes-to-dollars that it is NOT the phone. YMMV
Hmm happy to see i am not alone...... I have already post on this forum for this same pb.
I am full 4G....i try to make a call, instantly when i push call button, lose connection....must wait and maybe 4G and more in EDGE.
When i am in 4G impossible to call or receive....
So i have a phone with impossible to call or receive.......
SO NICE ????
For me, i am sure is the last F/W (31) who suck.
Why ?
Because, my phone work, after upate (31) just after reboot must wait 7 min to have network...never before....
SO last week end, i will downgrade to first F/W (A2)
Problem is solved for me.
I have locked all automatic update in developper menu.
Sometimes i have notification for update, but i don't care..........
Incredible but work for me, i think you must try...i don't see another solution for this ****ing problem
I had use the official tool : https://flash.android.com/
Sounds like a work around, how do you downgrade?
