battery drainer - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

Any one run into this wakelock? It's driving me crazy. Google didn't give me much to work with.

That showed up on GSam battery app and I disabled it through there.

Did you notice an improvement in battery after you disabled it? Ever since the Oreo update I'm having to charge during the day where it wasn't an issue before.

We shall see, I just disabled it when I sent the reply. My battery life has not been nearly as good either.

That is actually the dreaded "Carrier IQ" crap that att always try to hide on your device. It definitely helps to disable it for both privacy and battery.

I ended up removing all of my Google accounts, restarting and then added them all back. That seemed to do the trick. For some reason, that seemed to fix the android system from using so much battery. What's frustrating is that I had factory reset before but that did not seem to fix anything.

the device itself is about 10 day old. so can't pinpoint exactly
Seems to be a strange issue. Maybe you should give it some time. If it is not getting any better you should consider rooting and install a better battery app
You could try a factory reset

Battery drain app might give you some ideas, I'm averaging 0.85% hour with location and google now on
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.WazaBe.android.BatteryDrain
There are threads and a bug report with Motorola regarding this. It seems sometimes once GPS is used the battery continues to drain at 1-3% per hour until you reboot.
It may not be the issue in your case but it looks likely as the drain you see when the phone is not awake looks very similar to the problem.
If it drains in airplane mode and the phone shows as never awake then its the same problem.
For now don't use GPS or if you do then reboot directly after.

If you are getting the weird drain issue that seems to be related to GPS then maybe best to use battery saving. Depends his bad you need GPS though. So up to you really.
battery drain around 2.5 % /hr . Basically havent been using phone after 82%

it died on me for no apparent reason...

nearly was late for work because my phone died and i was using it as an alarm. what could have drained 50% battery in 6 hours and not show? wifi was off
while the graph is nice, better battery stats is what we need.

what you didnt post is the page with what was using your battery by %. now how are we supposed to tell you what happened and what used your battery? this thread is pointless because you gave us no usable information. what i got from the info that you did post is that a UFO flew by you and drained your battery of its power. and the thing is, my guess will be just as good as any other guess.

stock alarm app, no. but you do have a lot of wakelocks. when the screen is shown off, your device should be asleep. your device shows a lot of activity when your screens off(ironically, not when the supposed battery drain happened though, so i cant say thats why it drained).
Do you have the horrid camera bug?
Do you use exchange at all? I've had a lot of phones (android mostly htc and iphones) hit bugs from exchange in push mode and burn through their battery really quickly constantly trying to sync and hitting an error.
I charge mine on my dresser next to my head, and also use it as an alarm, I'd recommend charging it over night

I'm guessing this http://www.androidcentral.com/googl...cpu-usage-bug-fix-coming-next-android-release
I found it by googling "Nexus 5 horrid camera bug" lol, first link
Stock apps have no such issue as till date.Except for apps that use internet /wifi consume a lot of battery. So switch of those frst or keep ur cell on flight mode. The battery consumption may be due to gplay service, account sync, gmaps etc. I don't own a nexus device but I have experienced this kind of behaviour with my phone sometimes with a hot back cover sometimes.Try using apps like greenify to control this prob(or switch of ur network @ night/use lower cpu values + governers like powersave/conservative)

Battery life seems hit and miss

Hey,
my battery life seems to vary, maybe wakelocks? I am not rooted so I can't check. Some days I get 7-8 hours sot, however today (a day at university with wifi connection) my battery life is terrible, mobile network standby and Android system seem to be battery hogs.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Screenshot attached
I wanted to post the same thing... I haven't even installed all my apps on the new phone,
and I get terrible battery drain especially in standby, it's losing 20% overnight.
Then I factory reset it and it seems a little better now, but it's too unstable...
I was expecting better to be honest, and I only had it for less then a week...
How was your cell reception? Having bad reception has a big toll on battery performance, at least in my experience.
There have been reports of other users on battery drain with certain themes installed. What theme are running and could you compare with the default theme?
same here, not found the cause yet but tempted to do a full reset and start from scratch.
For wakelocks non root, download wakelock detector lite, you just enable it via a chrome app and usb debug, will have to do it when you restart the phone but thats not so often now days.

In my house the reception is not very good, but that's why I set it to 2G and turn off mobile data, leave it only on Wifi.
Did not install any theme, default everything. But really, can a theme cause battery drain ?
Me too
The battery standby stability is not great is it?
I'm currently turning on "battery saver" when I am not using the phone - a slight pain, I know, but it does seem to have helped, a bit.
Will keep an eye on it and let you know (I am hoping to get away with charging the phone every two days rather than every day).
Will see if that proves possible - FWIW, for me, it seems that Ourlook and Bluemail are two key culprits. I have changed the settings on Bluemail from Push to Fetch every 15 mins, which has helped, but of course you cannot do this on Outlook. Well done Microsoft.
At this rate I'll end up using the "extreme" power saving mode
I know battery usage will never be consistent among different users, but the background drain is too much (based on what I see here and the other thread). If you can figure out your background drain you'll be sorted.
I know Dropbox had a bug that affected a lot of people recently, where it would keep the phone awake for hours at a time, they sorted it out in a BETA but not sure if its been pushed to stable yet.
I'd recommend everyone to download BetterBatteryStats, give it permissions via ADB and then use your phone normally until you reach 10% and see what is keeping the phone awake. My phone drains less than 1% an hour overnight (typically lose 4-5% over an 8-9 hour period.)
By the way, it is VERY common amongst the U11 and U11+ for mobile network standby to appear very high. It always does, even when I get 7-8 hours SOT, the mobile drain appears high. I think the battery stats are a bit bugged if I am honest. Sometimes it will say Spotify has been using battery in the background for 10 hours, yet it drains less than 1% and doesn't show up on battery historian. Other times it will say Nova is using 50% battery with 10 minutes screen usage (even though my phone has been running for 30+ hours). Doesn't always make sense.
My experience with battery drain is that I don't have any issues. As others have said, it will be different for different users depending on apps running in the background.
I have over 100 apps installed, some are running in the background, but I usually have 50% left most days. My battery drains really slowly. Couldn't be happier.
I think there is som bug with software
Hi there,
This is the problem I have with this HTC U11+ battery: if I don't reboot the phone after charging, kernel is always awakes
If you reboot your phone regularly you won't notice this.
I wonder if it is a common problem to U11+ and if HTC knows this.
---------- Post added at 07:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:46 AM ----------
This is CPU
It has raisen to 100% during charging and never changed.
Seems more like a software issue.
I would try seeing what apps maybe like to wake up when charged (anything that backs up only when charging etc) or do a factory reset.

I did factory reset, wipe cache, everything... Unfortunately there are many people with this problem since the last software update, so I think it's something HTC related that must be fixed.

I have the China version U11+. After I upgraded to 1.24 via OTA, battery draining has become a serious problem, even in airplane mode.
I have solved it after I noticed the problem by doing a factory reset.
I have the European U11+ and I'm experiencing very fast battery draining after the latest OTA update too.
With me it's Google Play services causing the problem even in airplane mode and with extreme power saving on

I don't think it's play services' problem… Because the maximum battery consumption is caused by the EPS.
Maybe it's a bug made by HTC. They may change some files after the update, but forget to deal with the case of these files have been generated. So my problem was solved after factory resetting.
I use Google apps too, they don't cause battery draining if everything goes well.
I reached out to HTC as I noticed an absolutely huge decrease in battery life. I was asked to calibrate the battery and that seems to have stopped the issues at the moment. Email I received had the following instructions:
Recalibrate the battery/charging logic with the following steps:
•Charge the device for at least 10 minutes
•With the device truly OFF while still being plugged into the wall outlet, push in and hold volume up and volume down AND power button, for 2 minutes.
•Let go. Device will boot up, and battery/charging logic are re-calibrated.
I tried that and then reset it and I've been getting about a day since then. It's definitely linked to the last software update despite what they'll try and say.

I have to agree that something is happening with the software, and moreover, since last week the drain became really noticeable.
I was losing around 15% by night, so what I did to fix it was the following:
Clear cache of Sense Home
Disable the apps I was not using; for me those were:
Weather
HTC Account
Device configuration
Google Documents (didn't let me uninstall, but Sheets and Presentation let me)
Duo
Zoe Video Editor
Facebook
Facebook App Manager
HTC Alexa
HTC AppCloud
HTC Sense Companion
Instagram
Messenger
News Republic
VR Google Services
TouchPal
Clear cache from recovery
After doing this, the drain was gone and I was getting 2%-3% drain overnight again, and so far, is behaving properly now.
Maybe you guys can try.

I've ended up doing something similar- starting in safe mode I found that I wasn't getting the same drastic battery drain so I removed/disabled some apps, including HTC Weather and Touchpal, same as you. Now battery life seems much better and Google Play Services isn't causing a problem. I'm cautiously optimistic....:good:

Getting below average battery life on brand new phone

As mentioned on the title, do you guys know what I should do? I'm on the latest stable update. I just got the phone couple of days ago.
I was thinking to do a factory reset and download each app manually instead of going through backup stuff? Idk if this will help.

I would turn on adaptive battery to begin with and get BBS to find out which app is draining the battery before you go through a factory reset. How is your standby time overnight? It should be around 0.5 - 0.8% / hour.

That should not be. Get better battery stats and figure out what is waking your device with screen off. Disable it or get the eff rid of it. It's probably one app so find it. I had some stupid app draining 1% per hour idle. Bye bye. You'll get it and then squash it.

I'll try that but if I remember correctly, I did at some point download it and nothing was shown to be draining the battery or waking the device except for high usage by Google services as it always seems and couldn't narrow it down at that time.
I'll give it another shot and see.

I look at alarms and partial wakelocks mostly. You'll find something errant other than the system services which everyone has. Shoot for 0.7% / hour max. I mean sometimes something goes awry and I have to reboot to clear it out. Do a reboot before unplugging at full charge then go 7 hours or so and see what you get unplugged. Screen on time is nonsense so don't pay attention to that. The battery isn't stellar but it is sufficient.
With pixel phones I've learn to live without root, customROMS, short battery life and lag here and there.
To love Android I have to accept or sacrifice those little things.
I'm enjoying the camera, regular updates and the size of my pixel 3.
If you are looking for best battery life, pixel is not an option.
