Is it possible for me to start a bounty thread? How does that work exactly?
I would imagine that there is some kind of pool that people can add money towards rewarding the person with the solution to the issue at hand.
I would also imagine that the bounty expires after a certain set amount of time.
Am I close?
Specifically, I have a customer that will pay $100 towards a solution, without data loss to LG's dreaded LAF_CMD errors.
Thanks people!

I have been a member for a few years now and I understand the site culture very well. But there are things I just cannot do by myself because I am not so tech savvy, more of a specialized end user.
I want to find someone at XDA who will create a "Sashimi" package for me, so that I can flash ROMs and finally not have to deal with then re-setting up all my apps and settings and themes and registry changes.
On XDA, is it permitted to seek a specific skill for a specific task, and pay someone to do it?
(if not, no problem. But I am just asking)

In principle we have no objections against it as long as you're clear in what you seek and what you expect to pay for it. The best suited place for such a request imho would be the marketplace following the rules there which are specifically made for selling stuff (or services).
Next time feel free to PM questions like this, although there is no objection against asking it in public, I'll just be able to answer quicker.
Best regards,
Flar
If anybody can actually read this thread about "What would Arizona's immigration bill do?": that live_strong moderator is really intolerant and a reverse-racist.
I posted making a parallel that the bill is basically walking down the path of racial discrimination toward how the Jews had to wear their stars in the Nazi-regime, and then live_strong permanently banned me for making a racial slur. Seriously?
I challenged him to prove it since it requires my actually using a slur, but he doesn't want to debate it for a few months, lol.
I'm glad the moderators here are much more level-headed.
The HoFo moderator response is here.
This should go in the Off-Topic section.

I can't view the thread... I tried to look up on Google to see what the law actually did but I kept getting debates and news about the opposition to the bill.
What exactly did you say?
How come you can't refer a Jew to a Jew? I don't think their is another word for them.
@~~Tito~~ I agree, this thread should be moved there ...

I said pretty something like "might as well put Jewish stars on the immigrants at this rate ..." following the description of the bill where immigrants have to carry most of their papers with them all the time now.
This bill sounds pretty fascist to me, but apparently expressing that is enough to get an instant forever-ban.
Well, after getting their supervisor moderator to look at this, it was agreed there was sarcasm and warning not necessary, and ban lifted.
I think some person might have been offended at history getting invoked, but live_strong is undeserving as a moderator. Talk about repeating mistakes of the past and restricting free-speech, even if it is a private forum.
Ah fun with bad mods.
On one forum we had a mod say "6 million isn't what you'd call a large number in the grand scheme of things"
They've also let people get away with calling Pakistanis "cavemen"
hi guys - as my inspire comrades, i'd love to offer you guys spotify invites. it's through this cool service i found called klout that measures your influence via social networks. they give you cool perks (ie spotify invites). anyways, here's the link: http://klout.com/perk/Spotify/Spoti...eeb5e4309f4a1e38f2a120afc3953fb10d7a27e7bf964

Let me start this off by saying that I respect and love our mods for all their great work.
However, I have seen more and more in the past month or month.5 that many of the threads in this subforum have been closed. Some because they're no longer relevant for whatever purpose (which is a good thing), but other select threads are closed because they are off topic. The question I pose is why do some off-topic threads have to be closed?
Granted, this is a forum for developers and for phone support, applications, questions, etc, it is also a community. and because it's a community within a community (inspire users), I'd like to be able to have few off-topic conversations without them being closed by the mods. This is also the general subforum and therefore, I think it's appropriate if I want to start a slightly off-topic conversation with my fellow inspire users.
I understand the fact that sometimes off-topic threads can cause clutter, but I think thats most relevant in the case of multiple threads of the same topic.
disclaimer: conan, this post was not really inspired by you asking the other user to use the off-topic forum in the other spotify invite thread, but is a result of various threads i've seen closed recently. also, as i mentioned earlier, i would like to share the spotify invites with my fellow inspire users, not other random people that happen to also be browsing the off-topic forum.
lastly, i'd like to thank all of you amazing people for making my experience with the inspire so freaking awesome. this goes from the devs to the other people like me that respect and love the devs' work to the noobs without who we would be so peaceful and happy without having to tell them to search
[/rant]
I appreciate what your saying about the fact that you'd rather offer these to another inspire user, not just the first random OT user to jump on your thread.
That said, there is an undeniable problem at the moment with clutter on the forums.
While your post is entirely genereous and well intentioned it is not strictly "on topic". I know this may seem petty but if we (the moderation team) are to bring the forums back into line the way they used to be, we need to be consistent in our actions.
You may not have asked for my opinion but I'll offer it anyway..
I would have just picked out a couple of members you'd like to donate these invites to and PM'd them, your two fav devs or someones who's helped you with a problem for example. Perhaps even your friendly forum moderator (just kidding).
I'm not gonna close your thread right now because like I said, I appreciate the intention behind it but let me know when they are claimed so I can close it and prevent it turning into a "Where can I get an invite??" thread...
Cheers.
I know this seems contrary to XDA's recent apparent policy of consolidating the number of forums rather than expanding, but maybe a community/off-topic board for various high-traffic devices would be in order.
I also have Spotify, but no invites, and would highly recommend you take this generous guy up on his offer.

whenever i rant, i like to hear opinions from everyone that i'm ranting about. so thanks for your opinion what do you think about having an inspire off-topic subforum? i feel that since the Q&A section popped up, the general section has been MUCH cleaner, so props for that! maybe this well help too, maybe not. oh well.
and also thanks for the advice about PM'ing people - i'll try that next time.
FYI - there's 1 invite left via the link in the OP

Your the second person to bring this up. Are you guys conspiring against me
Initially I refused, as I've tried it elsewhere and it was a spectacular failure.
I will however, consult the oracle and see what he/she/it says....
@the op, gonna close this now if we are all done. Thanks for the rant
Sent From My Fingers To Your Face.....
I was SO HAPPY when I read the post about "Operation Iron Fist", and SO DISAPPOINTED when I saw the enforcement in action.
Can we PLEASE start issuing 24-48 hour bans for people who break or disregard forum rules?
Example: The VERY FIRST POST in the dev section is titled "If you didn't create "it", then it doesn't belong in Development", and the rest of the post goes on to tell you WHY and WHERE YOU SHOULD POST if you don't meet the criteria for the dev section. A thread like "TEAM TOXIC on GALAXY S 4G" should not have had time to get 9 replies, and the OP should be banned for at least 24 hours for BLATANTLY disregarding the rules.
I saw a thread a couple of days back where a guy was trying to make a place where people could post their WidgetLocker mods/themes. The OP specifically asked people to NOT reply to the thread unless they were posting a theme, but instead they should PM the person with their question and request they update their post with the answer. This thread has AT LEAST 100 ***IDIOTS*** in it asking question after question, making request after request, despite the OPs wishes, and no mod has *ever* done anything about it.
I don't know if "Operation Iron Fist" was a joke or a serious endeavor, but from the looks of things, I'm gonna have to go with the former. People who disregard the rules at their whim -- first time offenders or not, unknowingly or not -- are EXACTLY what is driving devs away from XDA in mass numbers.
I guess what I'm trying to say, here, is; Could we have some ORDER around here? ENFORCE the rules, and start giving people a REASON to follow them...
"Damn, I should have read the rules before I posted that, now I'm banned for a day" -- That guy won't break that rule, again.
"Wow, I just got a warning from a mod because I didn't follow a rule. Oh well" - That guy will break the rules again -- probably including the one he JUST got a warning for.
I've moderated my fair share of forums in my day, and I have to say the **** I see people get away with on here is appalling.
Anyways, that's my two-cents on the subject. I'm pretty frustrated and fed up with having to dig through MOUNTAINS of bull**** to get little tidbits of useful information just because some selfish jackass can't be bothered with reading and following the rules.
Have to agree with you but it is a very big Forum so we cannot read everything that is posted so we need every ones help that way helping us is helping you in the long rum.
As far as the Punishment goes we do have a fair system that includes infractions and bans depending on the crime.
So please if you see anything Report the Post or drop me a pm
Thanks Guys

No. I'm saying that people should be a little more considerate of others, and not clutter up potentially useful threads and forums with unnecessary stuff. I guess I'm also saying that the penalties for it should be a little more harsh and frequent, IMO.
I have to admit, though, I haven't been making much use of the report button, myself, so I haven't been doing my part, either. That changes here
I do think that people should post threads in their proper forum and that mods are doing a good job, you have to remember that they do have lives outside of xda, they can't be here 24/7.

Yeah, sometimes I kinda lose sight of stuff like that and get a little wound. Thanks for the check, guys
Still pretty frustrated about all the inconsiderate people, though *shrug*
some lowlife sold my teenage kid a t mobile sim locked oneplus 9 this past weekend after claiming it could be use on att ugh cant believe someone would take advantage of someone like that.
idk anything at all about this sort of stuff so im stumbling my way thru this like a blind man thru a maze
i called t mobile twice last night and they didnt seem to care at all about the situation so a google search led me here
is there anything we can do to get this thing unlocked so it can be use on att? any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. i dont mind paying if necessary
regards
the account originally associated with the phone must be in good standings. must also be paid off. if you can confirm those through imei etc, then try going into settings, about phone, scroll down until you see network unlock. go for the permanent option.
That was the first thing we tried
so the phone is not financially compromised and the original account is in good standing? run the imei number on a blacklist checker. most likely your son bought a paper weight.

@Imbmfk Imagine your device was stolen, I'm sure you would appreciate that the people who took it would be unable to use your device. I do understand that this can bring problems on the second hand market but this is of no concern to XDA. I assume you speak the truth but even then our community will not be able to assist as any unlock solutions would be considered illegal. Which takes us to:
9. Don't get us into trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things which will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably shouldn't do it here either. This does not mean that we agree with everything that the software piracy lobby try to impose on us. It simply means that you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with the legal hassle caused by you. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users and those that write great code.

I can only advise you to get in touch with the seller and/or the platform your son has bought the device on.
Thank you all for your time, have an amazing day and stay safe out there!
