External Mic in App, sound very low - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My OPO is running Android 8.1.0 (LineageOS version 15.1-201800121-Unofficial-bacon)
I notice that when I want to use my external mic with Whatsapp or phone app, other side just can't hear me.
To test the mic it self i made a recording using the a microfoon app, and even when my whisper, I can hear what I have recorded.
that means that mic is working fine.
Anybody an idea what the problem could be?

i want to give an update to my problem.
This week I installed a new Rom, CarbonROM, to see if this could solve my issue.
But unfortunately, i am not able to make a video call. other side just can hear me.
Also magisk Module Android Mic Fix did not help.
Found it very strange that I can use my mic without any problem. i can make recordings, I can use OK google, and i am also able use Speech to text inside Whatsapp without any problem.
But i cannot make a video call or use my external mic when doing a normal phone call

[Q] Anyone Knows How to Reroute Microphone Profile

Hi,
I have a technical question regarding changing/re-routing microphone.
Here's my problem, it seems like my micro stopped working properly recently (maybe after a drop). The main microphone produces very little sound input and because of that, voice call doesn't work -- people can't hear me very well at all from the other side. Also voice recording doesn't work.
Spaker phone mode and headset mode works just fine. So i know the main-heandset-mic is broken.
My solution:
So I've tried a few approach, including editing the mixer_paths.xml file in system/ect/mixer_paths.xml
I have successfully replaced the main-mic with the speaker-mic and this seems to help a little bit. I'm able to record sound again using the speaker-mic.
But during call, it won't active that mic. I think android turns off all the other mic (both speaker-mic and headphone-mic, if it doesn't detect a headset plugged in and if I'm on normal handset mode).
Does any developers who knows android well enough to help me with this? I think somehow if I can have it so that android won't turn off my spaeker-phone mic when I'm in normal call mode would work, since the I've already replaced the mixter path profile of main-mic with that of speaker-mic.
Hope this is not too confusing..... I've trying my best to describe the problem. it's been very frustrating.

Apps that check your Google Pixel for microphone issue

Download and install these apps (Sound Meter and Mic Tester). Check these once in a while to determine if your mic is working or if it bugs out.
How many minutes/hours/days can you keep your phone without restarting it? (insert sarcastic wink)
I just found out that my Pixel have a buggy mic (software). It lost the basic use of a phone, (to be able to use voice at any point in time, whether it's phone call, facebook call, skype call, telegram call. etc...)
It's really annoying. I've been flashing different android version from N,O to P(preview) but the problem is still there.
Is there a specific "golden version" for Google Pixel?

It is definitely a hardware related issue, trust me buddy.
Thee audio codec chip is broken, you need to get it swapped out or the phone replaced.
The problem only gets worse with time.

Question Joying Zlink (CarPlay) and an inability for anyone to hear me over voice calls

Hey all,
Anyone have a solution for callers not being able to hear you when the call is taken through CarPlay over Zlink on a Joying head unit? My head unit is: JY-VO133N4. When I unplug my phone I'm able to have phone calls work great over blue tooth, so this appears to just be a Zlink/CarPlay issue. I can hear the caller perfectly, they just can't hear me.
Edit, they actually can hear me, but I come through with very low volume and with static, I'm undiscernable on their end.
Possible that it's trying to use the mic on your phone and not on the HU. I've done tests and this is what mine does. Where is your phone when driving?

Have same problem. zlink use phone mic?
I have the same problem, try to rec an whatsapp audio and listen after, It sound same when you make the calls and I think and the sound is too looow and pooor. My bluetooth calls are great!!! what could be the problem?
Same problem here, which got worse after updating to IOS 14.8.
I can hear all people very clear, BUT they hear me very far and distant (so it is of no use).
It is NOT a hw mic issue, nor a headunit issue, because when I kill Zlink and use the audio unit's bluetooth, all works perfectly.
My bluetooth audio works fine, It is a pity that the calls do not work, it is the only thing need for work perfectly
I know this thread has some age to it, but I recently started having the same problem that while using CarPlay through zlink, any phones calls, no one could hear me, but mics worked when connected to android BT. Also worked connecting a Samsung phone through android auto. Only occurred using iPhone and CarPlay. Been going on for a few months and couldn’t for the life of me figure it out.
Even updated to iOS 15 and same problem.
Today I finally got it working!!
This is what I did. Hope it helps others.
Connect to the unit and let zlink connect and go into CarPlay.
From within CarPlay, open google maps.
Press the microphone button in the bottom corner of google maps. You should get a pop-up saying that you have to allow google access to the microphone.
Immediately look at your phone, you should have a request on the iPhone to allow google access to the microphone.
ALLOW IT!
Then press the microphone button again in google maps. It should now allow you to use voice for searching.
Now go place a phone call!
This solved the problem for me. Hope it helps others.
Thought I'd found a solution but there was no microphone button on CarPlays Google Maps

Question Microphone muffled/bassy sound

I just got the feedback from several people that they hear me very muffled/bassy via Telegram/WhatsApp Video Call. I used the recorder and took a sample to verify the issue. I think compared to my OnePlus 6 the microphone quality is very bad. I already had issues on my OnePlus 6 that used the wrong (rear) Microphone in Teams for conferences and I'm kind of disappointed there is an issue with the mic again. Did you test your mic and what is your experience so far?
You are the first one reporting that problem. Maybe you have a connected bluetooth device? My call audio quality has been nothing but excellent
No I don't have connected anything via bluetooth.
Did you check for any application which may have influence on your microphone? Maybe it got transferred from the OnePlus 6.
The only app that interacts with the Mic is Spectroid but it does not run as service. I don't think any software is causing it. Telegram, Whatsapp, Calling App also use the Mic of course. I reinstalled also Telegram.
A friend thinks that on whatsapp the sound is better than on telegram. But I don't know if it is subjective opinion.
Your losing the higher frequencies which need a direct audio pathway more than the lower ones.
A blocked or partially blocked mic port.

Hearing Aids: making calls

Hi,
anybody outhere with hearing aids who can make calls with their hearing aids as audio output and a working microphone?
If so, could you please state what
- hearing aids
- phone
- OS version
- and if you had to do something else (install an app, add a setting, ...)
?
Thanks!
I recently got myself a OnePlus 9 Pro and after pairing my Starkey HAs the phone outputs all audio to the HAs w/o trouble, even in a call -- but there's no microphone, hence in a call I hear the other party but they cannot hear me.
While the HAs are recognized as such, Accessibilty does not offer a setting for HA compatibilty, nor is there a way to pick the audio input device or at least check/modify the microphone volume.
All info I can find seems outdated or misses the point entirely (using HAs to make a call).
To answer my own question: w/ OOS 13.1 sound is routed directly to my hearing aids and one of the phone's built-in microphones picks up my voice (need to experiment further to find out how to hold the phone to get the best quality).
I currently try to figure out if it still works that way if I flash LOS ...
