Found Mate 9 can I unlock it? - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Hello guys, I'll begin by saying that I'm not english so if i make mistakes u have to forgive me. Yesterday, a friend of mine came to me by saying that he "found" a phone, which actually is a Huawei Mate 9 MHA-L29.
Now, he told me that he tried to return the phone to the police but it didn't have any SIM card in it and they just told him to keep it because they couldn't do anything. I was actually searching a good and cheap phone to buy and he told me that he can sell it to me at a nice price if i manage to unlock it, now the problems start. So when i turn it on, it hasn't any wallpaper and it wants the unlock Pin, which obviously is unknown.
Something like this happened to me a month ago with a P8 Lite which i factory resetted even if it had a pin and everything went fine.
With this phone tho, if i go to eRecovery (both buttons and start button) and press "Download lastest version and recovery" it makes me choose a wifi and then gives me "getting package info failed".
If i try Vol Down and start button, it takes me to the EMUI update i guess (I'm kinda new to these things so please understand my ignorance.) and tells me "System install failed".
Also tried to link it via USB to my PC and tried Recovery from HiSuite but i guess since the device is in "only charge" and i don't have the pin to change that, it doesn't work either.
Do you guys think is it possible to unlock it someway? I would really appreciate your help.

It could be the original owner who had lost the phone had contacted Huawei and had them disable phone, (making it useless).

debugging seems to be not enabled
password isn’t known
pin isn’t known
factory reset without removing pin/password before will not be successful!!!
as i know, this phone is fully useless for you.
BTW: bad for you, but good for all the people which have lost her phone.
If you would have the original box and bill, the HUAWEI service center can help.
Without this, you will get no help!
and at last...
How often do you think, people have "lost" her phone without sim card installed into it? Not often i think!!!

If it has the original software and recovery on it, chances are that FRP lock is still enabled so unfortunately, it's worth nothing. Maybe you guys can post it on some public ad sites and the owner will be found and give a reward.

[Q] Used wrong Lock-Pattern, now phone is locked. No method tried works for unlocking

Hey guys how's it going?
Story:
My little cousin borrowed her old HTC Desire S to a friend.
This said friend, might have changed the Google Account and activated a Lock screen-Pattern, although she claims "I didn't change anything".
She claims, her sister tried to access the Phone while she was in school but couldn't, because of the Pattern Lock, so it locked up.
My little Cousin had a similar problem before (she knew her pattern but somehow it didn't recognize it and locked it. I unlocked it with the Android Device manager, since it didn't work with her Google Account).
She hasn't put a new Lock screen-Security Pattern/PIN/Password since then.
What I did so far:
tried putting in the Google Account Information of my Cousin
tried it with the Android Device Manager, but it couldn't even find the phone
tried entering the Recovery to perform a factory reset, but it just boots up normally
tried gaining information on How-to re-flash stock firmware but all I've found, required you to get into "HBoot" for relevant Information (which I can't access somehow)
So, is there anything I can try to regain access to the Phone, I don't already have?
It would most likely be a back-up phone, so, if it's lost, it's nothing too bad but, I mean, it cost quite some back in the day...So yeah, would be cool if you guys have a solution!
Thank you in advance for reading this post and thinking about/providing a solution!
MstrBubbles
EDIT: I forgot to mention, that my PC doesn't even recognise the Phone properly. It finds a removable Drive but it says "Put in a storage Device in the removable drive(H)" and if I want to save disconnect the device, there is only ". . ." listed and it doesn't do anything. I assume it is in "Charge-Only mode" or something.
Oh and it's connected to my Wi-Fi but it wont install apps (through Play Store in my PC Browser), since I tried one of those "remove Lock-screen" apps.
Pull the battery out for 15 seconds then put back in then press and hold volume down + power button. That should get u into bootloader and there u can try factory reset or if all fails try a ruu.

Locked out of phone in China!! :/ S6 SM-920F

Hi!
So I have a Galaxy S6 which came with a Dutch T-mobile package. On my way to China, where I moved a few weeks ago for an indefinite period, I cracked the screen and brought it to the local repairman to fix. That went perfectly well, but the phone didn't recognize my fingerprint anymore and I forgot my backup password. That's why I performed a factory reset, and that's where the real trouble began.
After the reset, I tried setting up the phone again, and got to the Samsung reactivation screen. I entered my account info, and provided the password for the wifi, after which the phone connected to wifi (with the corresponding message), but after a few seconds I get a pop up message saying "Unable to connect to the Internet" - even though the wifi symbol would still flash its arrows in the upper right corner. Thus, I can't get past this screen nor in my phone, which is quite a devastating fact as a poor new expat in China . Tried several other wifi networks, to no avail.
My guess is that it's the Great Firewall of China acting here, somehow preventing the phone to connect to the Samsung (and/or Google) network to check my info. I don't know if this is correct, the Samsung helpdesk couldn't say for sure as well, but I really really want to find a workaround here. Once I get the phone working again I can install a VPN to have the Google stuff working in China, but this way I can't get to that point. Now I am completely new to rooting/ installing ROMS and the works, but I am willing to try anything to get this expensive piece of electronics to work out here.
Any helping comment is an absolute lifesaver, and I will name my firstborn child after you!!
Thanks so much!
All the best, Maarten

1 week old Mate 9 bricked?

So after performing a factory reset on the device it booted normally the 1st time and asked me for my PIN (??). It accepted my usual PIN (!) and took me to a clean slate (all Play Store apps gone) BUT the wallpaper was still the same, my username was still there and the other user profile was also still there. What was missing was a keyboard so there was nothing I could do with the device.
OK no problem, lets perform another factory reset. So once again I hold volume up & the power button, select reset to factory settings, reboot... and this time it boots to a black screen with only the android navigation bar at the bottom and the words emergency mode on the bottom left.
Any ideas on what to do now, short of sending it back to the store?
This is a brand new unit, running EMUI 5 from the box, bought from an authorised dealer. It was not rooted or tampered with in any way or form.
I've seen those symptoms and I had to perform an erecovery. If you have the Chinese version you can do that if you have the international version I think erecovery isn't working just yet.
Sent from my MHA-L29 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I have a MHA-L29 bought in Europe. I assume erecovery is the mode enabled by pushing volume up, volume down & power button at the same time? At that point I would need the full OS in a microSD inside the device, correct? Apologies, I'm not well versed in Android...
Huawei's website offers very little help . All one can find is a link to the 'quick start manual', a link to EMUI's source code (Mate 9 is absent), a mobile wifi inspection tool, and HiSuite. I'm assuming HiSuite is of no help in this case?
Have I run out of options here? Is my next step returning the device to the shop?

The easiest choice for you is returning the device to the shop, but it can definitely be fixed.
Huawei made some very stupid decisions with the Mate 9. You cannot flash firmware from SD card anymore. You have to use eRecovery (boot the phone plugged into a computer holding the volume up key) to recover. However, this eRecovery has not launched for the european model, so you can't restore.
I might be able to help you using my DNS server because I have reverse-engineered a lot of how the Mate 9 works, but I don't have a European model to test with. If it's easy for you to return it to the store, that's probably the best option.
I've contact Huawei support and they'll be picking up the device by courier. They expect to have it returned in 5 days max. I did test the eRecovery mode that you've described and indeed it fails to gather the needed files ("Getting package info failed").
I appreciate you input, what would your method involve? I've seen firmware (B122) floating around the web, how are people flashing it if the SD card method isn't working for this unit? Having said that I wouldn't personally attempt anything that could possibly void the warranty.

when you make a factory reset in recovery on first boot you see lost the google service and also the keyboard (i know well i have done it two time in 4 days cause bootloop) how got the google service back? simply download from apkmirror a google keyboard (you need it for next step) and install it then go to settings/advanced settings and make a factory reset(need a pin in my case that why have installed a keyboard) when the device boot again you have the google service again
I see, thank you. I'll keep that in mind next time I reset the device. :good:
I then ask, if I do reset the device to factory settings and it craps out again, how would one know if eRecovery is able to recover European models? As of 3 days ago this option would throw a 'Getting package info failed' error. Short of trying it myself when I get my device back, has anything changed in the meanwhile? Is eRecovery working now?
hi mate, I only know what I've tried: eRecovery delete google service, eRecovery not erase password.factory reset from settings does reappear google services .... likely these problems are software bugs or are linked to nougat that has different partitions than to the past....sorry for now thats it

So I just got my phone back from the service center and the first impressions were not good. Before returning the phone they called me to ask for my Google username and password (!!) to make sure the device was successfully recovered. I obviously refused and just told them to kindly return the device and I would test it myself.
Well the package arrived today and is missing the SIM ejector and the IMEI back sticker. Not only that but it now refuses to install the Amazon Shopping app and Google PhotoScan app because "this app is incompatible with your device". How can this be if I had these two apps installed before??
I also noticed that the device claims to be an "Orange MHA-L29"... have these guys just flashed it with a firmware meant for Mate 9s sold through Orange?

mmmm too bad mate, your M9 is no brand? Orange is a carrier ....my opinion is ask why this change and ask for phone replacement
Yep, unbranded bought from an authorised dealer.
I am now going to escalate it and try to have this unit rejected and exchanged for a brand new one. I sure hope they don't propose replacing it with a refurbished unit, after all we're talking about a €700 device here and it has spent more time in the service center than in my hands. Very frustrating.
And this whole "no way to use eRecovery yet" and "no way to flash it from MicroSD" is just the last nail in the coffin... I mean what were they thinking? Even Apple devices allow me pick up the corresponding firmware and flash it at home from day 0. I hear the P9 Plus is less restrictive, maybe I should have gone for one of those instead?
I've got a real lemon here... let's see how they handle my case, I'll keep you all updated.

Cant seem to bypass FRP on Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge no matter what I try

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge from a guy off ebay with smashed the screen for a cheap price and recently took it to my local Official Samsung repair shop who repaired it for a reasonable price. I turned the phone on and it had all of the other guys personal stuff on the phone and he had a screen lock on there that I didn't know how to unlock so I did a factory reset in recovery without realising about FRP. When the phone rebooted I get the google screen asking me for the original google account credentials. I have tried contacting him and getting no joy. I have tried all of the methods in youtube but as the phone has the December 2016 security update none of them seem to work. When I plug the phone into my PC windows just says the USB device has malfunctioned and does not connect. I have installed the full Samsung USB drivers but the PC still doesn't recognise it. Could the fact it is not recognised be due to the google frp or could it be to do with the fact the phone could still be damaged from when it was dropped. Im not fussed about the USB port in normal use but it appears the only method to bypass the FRP is via the USB and using one of those methods. Can anyone help please?
I had the same problem and from my understanding all the methods are blocked now I'm trying to find out if theres a way that i just havent figured out yet i've book marked your question and will keep checking back to see if you have had any help
I know it is a tricky subject as I could be in possession of a stolen phone in which case I am rightly being locked out of it but I have the receipt to prove I have purchased it which I am willing to show to anybody who might know a way around it.
Have you tried putting it in download mode then using emergency recovery on Smart Switch?
Yes tried that earlier. Smart Switch doesn't recognise it. Just stays on the screen telling me to connect the phone even though I already have. When I plug the phone into the laptop it says the USB device (my phone) has malfunctioned and Windows doesn't recognise it. I have tried ODIN and that doesn't recognise the phone either as it isn't being given a COM number by Windows. Guess I will have to take it back to the Samsung Support Centre as I paid them to get the phone working and he said the price quoted was to get it fully working. If the USB isn't working then they can repair it!

I've just unlocked a S5 Neo.
I flashed the very first firmware version (5.1.1)
FRP lock still there BUT I could now use the side sync hack or samsung unlock APK on OTG cable.
Then flashed the latest 6.0.1 version
Did you manage to unlock it?
I have the same problem
Any good current methods for this
uninstall all drivers related and kies. Then install kies and needed drivers. See if you can connect via download mode now.

Have a look at my post here... How To Reset FRP (Nearly All Fones From Android 6.x.x to 7.x.x, No Trips, Flash counter inciment, Knox, Still Mode = Official, Warenty 0 (0x0000) (Still working 16 June 2017)
You see, im not all that good with programming APK files, Dalvik VM, Obex, ect, but Linux I'm your man so i figured where is the email/pass info held and is there a switch to keep it on off, ends up one of the easiest hacks i've ever done, no complicates hashed/salted double coded switch, or hard wired switch,
just a very small partition that when or if you have any google account info stored in it you get locked out till you enter the exact same info, so i just dd,d the partition after taking a backup of course lol (; then when the fone booted to download mode i noted FRP=OFF so i flashed the stock bootloader to let the fone boot all the way to video mode and YES!!! it thought it was a new fone never been used before then i check the switches/trips KNOX , device status = official, to test i just made a new google account on the spot on the phone filled all the [email protected] in then voila its working, calls, all menu items ok, official all knox fine, just the way it was when i first got it, except obviously I've upgraded to v7, hopefully this works for you, please dont use or talk about illegall activity with this, or using it for profit, it's agift I gave you's for free so i want it to stay that way, all i want is a thanks, and a beer, lol, no but seriously, when the guy that invented the hammer to ease the effort of pussing nails into wood with you hands, never got hassle about murders with them, tha fact the could be used to rob banks, rob people, damage things, smash up shops, etc so... think about it, all i done was make a tool to help people too. theres litteraly millions of exploits, including android based ones out there just now check, https://www.exploit-db.com/ , OWASP_Vulnerable_Web_Applications_Directory_Project , http://www.exploit-db.com/ , http://www.blackploit.com/ , packetstorm cve etc etc. #
This is a tool to help people how when they first got there fone, and just filled in any old stuff to get into the fun part of the fone. ie "you cannot use [email protected],com as it already in use how about [email protected],com then the password, use one lower case, one higher case, one number , one symbol, more than 12 letters but less than 20, don't use anything you talk about, your name dob etc etc etc , so most people just pick the random one google pumps out and tries random passwords till one goes through, "I've seen this done a few times with my own eyes and had to stop them and explain and this was b4 FRP" Also if you change one letter in your google password, Factory reset your fone, your locked out if the fone never got the change in time, try it, Anyways if people use this for illegal purposes its there evilness there using not mine, there just using my tool as well as the thousand of others in the arsonry, even the OS check out "kali linux OS", "Parrot OS" "Blackbuntu OS"," BlackArch Linux" Also say you code a program to check hashes at a faster rate to speed up logins etc, a hacker will use it to check stolen passwd lists faster, if a faster CPU is made, the first thing a hacker thinks of is how many words/letters it can do a second so they can bruteforce the wifi key of the local bank, hospital etc.... so?
tried EVERYTHING ....
I have the USCellular G935R4 .... S#iiiit , like I've even gotten to the actual HOMESCREEN , but no matter what I do it wont do it.. i can access just about any app and the settings accurately every single time within seconds-mins, even tried flashing it, even had FULL access and control over it using sidesync, and i tried rooting it from oneclickroot on pc but thennnn knox trips and won't let me enable developer options.... And got the error with "sign in using email and password" on quick shortcut maker , PLUS tried everything to fix the error by reinstalling google account manager , etc ...
But NOTHING ...
If ANYONE has any idea how to successfully do get into it , Pplleasee let me know!
???
Seriously ,
I swear , I'll even pay someone ...
Try flashing the phone to the latest MM via odin and try bypassing. I tried it on my G** da** S6 with may 2017 patch. Dowgraded into latest MM and tried different bypass and it worked.

Bought used 970F with Magisk, relocked, flashed stock UI5, no network at all

*****FINAL UPDATE: THIS POST IS A WASTE OF TIME WANDERING AROUND SOLUTIONS FOR THE IMEI. THE REAL REASON IS THAT I WAS SCAMMED AND BOUGHT A STOLEN PHONE WITHOUT KNOWING, AND THE IMEI/IMEIs WERE CHANGED, so when I factory reset the phone, the IMEIs were gone. If you're in the same situation, see if you can return the phone. If not, the only thing you can do is sell it AS IT IS, because YOU WERE PROBABLY SCAMMED, LIKE ME, so please sell it declaring the state of the phone and the IMEIs.*******
****If you want to read the entire post, go ahead, but you'll waste all your time. You were scammed, it's a stolen phone, end of story.****
Guys I was really excited about this purchase, I tested network with the seller, on both SIMs, both worked great, 4G data, when I took it home I noticed the phone was BL unlocked with Magisk, which made me worry about any security issues or not being able to update. Relocked BL from download mode, flashed stock G970FXXSDFUI5 (I live and bought it here in Colombia), and I checked this was the same FW that it had while rooted with Magisk
Cleared data/cache, flashed successfully, warnings gone, but no network at all, this is what I have:
- Only emergency calls with any SIM in any slot, already tried different carriers
- Checked IMEI in national blacklist database imeicolombia.com, they're both clean
- When trying to make a call "not registered on network"
- When going into Mobile Networks - Select Network - Select Automatically is ON, if I try to turn off it instantly says "Error searching for networks" and the switch stays on, so no "Manual Search" button.
Already tried clearing data/cache of SIM Toolkit app, what am I missing? Thank you!
UPDATE: I went through all the process of unlocking BL again and rooting again with Magisk successfully following this tut
with updated Magisk, etc, but still no ntwk, will now try flashing other countries same/higher SW REV, will post any other update.
Additional steps: I tried putting 2G only or 3G only and reset APNs to see if "Select Automatically" switch was fixed but same story, it wont turn off and shows same "Error while searching for networks" msg right away
UPDATE 2: I wanted to share a video I found that shows the exact same error that I get in the "Mobile Networks" menu:
Altough I rly dont think it's the same situation, cause in that video, the phone has no signal at all, mine is able to pick full signal for emergency calls. I rly dont think my situation is that of hardware but some kind of software/activation/sim thing (It's not the SIM bc it works in any other phone)
Please someone help me, I've invested more than labor hours researching and trying to fix this, I fear I could damage the phone by flashing it so many times

A VERY VERY VERY complex process. It turns out the answer was a very simple one. They sold me a stolen phone with the IMEIs changed, so at the moment that I factory reset the phone, the "fake" IMEIs were cleared, leaving the phone with NULL IMEIs. In short, I got scammed, had to sell the phone declaring the situation, ofc for a quite discounted price due to the fact of it being a stolen phone.
ALERT 1: WHEN YOU'RE GONNA BUY A SAMSUNG PHONE, ASK THE SELLER IF IT CAN BE FACTORY RESET RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM/HER BEFORE PAYING. IF THE SELLER SAYS YOU CAN'T, YOU CAN ALREADY GUESS WHAT'S GOING ON.
ALERT 2: NOW THEY CAN CRACK THE SAMSUNG PHONE IMEIS SO IF YOU FACTORY RESET, IT WOULD KEEP THE FAKE IMEIs, so the only thing you can do is go into this website:
IMEIpro - free Samsung IMEI checker
Check information about your Samsung cell phone - model, serial number, manufacture date. Verify Samsung carrier, age of the phone, purchase country, CSN number and other details.
imeipro.info
Enter the IMEI and the website will show you THE SERIAL NUMBER. COMPARE IT WITH THE ONE SHOWN IN THE PHONE. IF THEY DON'T MATCH, THE PHONE IMEI HAS BEEN CHANGED, LIKELY A STOLEN PHONE! DO NOT BUY IT!
This is the best guide I have for buying used samsung phones so far
