My phone's stock battery isn't getting me through the day and the two other supposedly "original" replacements which I bought are even worse. Has anyone recently bought a good standard-sized replacement battery for the S5 which they can recommend?

I have 3 of these batteries, works very well:

I went with this one (PowerBear brand on amazon.com) a few months ago. It has been working great (but no NFC).
Battery
Just go to Samsung direct: Guaranteed to get an official one with NFC support. It will say out of stock on their website, but if you do an online chat then they will source one and send it out to you.

I'm thinking of buying this as well. Could you please tell what's your usage and the screen-on time as well as the stand-by time? My current so called "official" Samsung battery gets charged from 0% to 100% in around 1 hour and the maximum I get from it is 2 hours SOT and 6 hours total...that's just sad, my S5 was a champ a few years ago. Waiting for your input

This isn't going to be super helpful, since my phone has just been sitting on my desk playing podcasts. Anyway, I'm at 66% battery after 7h 44m off the charger. Total "awake" time is 3h 20m. SOT is only 21 minutes.
I'm very happy with this battery, if that helps. I think the life is on par with stock - just no NFC.

I never used NFC anyway (though I see how cool it can be, it just never got off). How long does it take to actually recharge the PowerBear from 10-15 to 100%? (I love that brand name lol)

I rarely get that low and mostly charge overnight, so I can't really say. I can tell you that I sometimes wait to charge until I get to the office and at around 40-50% and it takes maybe an hour to get to 100% with a 1 A charger.

Hello Guys,
I got this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/ANKER-1800m...495901?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4cfb97109d
According my usage :
Before I went back to work : 40 % max Battery remaining
Now : 70 % (easily)
Perfect fit in the original back case.
I have an intensive usage of my Galaxy S (3G all the time , phone call , internet surf )
I love this battery!
Battery Monitor says that is a 1500 mAh
Kr,
Jérémy.
hello jeremy
does that battery fit in with stock backcover or is it to big? seems like a good price.
edit: didnt see ur whole post i may order one thank you :=)
but i didnt get ur last part, do u mean that the battery is actually 1500 mah and not 1800?
Hello,
In battery monitor I see 1500. But much better than the original one (1 year old)
Jérémy.
You do know that Battery Monitor uses an user defined value and you have to set it yourself in the settings?
Settings->monitoring-> battery capacity
Or did you use it to get an estimated capacity (under calibration, "measured")
i bought one yesterday evening but it will take time until i recieve it but when i can tell how good it is.
actually i wanted a samsung 1800 mah battery but the ebay seller had none left..so i bought this one..half the price, 9$ + 5$ shipment ~11 €
i just hope anker batteries are really good
So is this battery thicker than the original?

i assume it has the same size like the original samsung battery with 1800mah, which is slightly thicker than the 1500mah original battery but it fits under the original backcover

here 2 pics. it fits under the original backcase!
until now i am not able to say anything about the power, i will report if anybody wants to know it.
I'd rather go Samsung oem...

no because this is a thread about a 1800 mah ANKER battery and the other for the original samsung one
Αny news about it's actual power capabilities?
its much better than my old standard 1500mah battery!
i just had the 2nd load-cycle, and i can use my phone heavily a whole day with cyanogenmod 7(i think with stock roms the battery use is better)
I used my galaxy one over one hour for listening to music, ~1h display time, 3g always on, a few sms and after 12 hours i have 50% rest, compared to my old battery this is great ;-) for ~14 $ --> ~11 € with international shippment
i would buy it again!

I have a cheapo Amazon "3500mah" battery which after testing turned out to be only a little over 2000 mah however the Anker batteries appear to not bullsh¡t about their numbers so I would say using logic and past experience that it would be legit and worth it if you want the extra junk in your trunk ( or pocket)

Don't be quick to be hating on the bohemoth.
I have found that when you first get a new battery there is a "break in" period. Not that this time will make any difference in performance long term but it normally takes a few charges or even as many as 10 to reach its peak mah capacity.
This has been documented on a few threads in this forum.

Yup. Will do. I've seen a lot of people talk up battery monitor widget, so I installed it on my current battery to get used to how it works and so I have some old data to compare to.
I also started using Juice Defender. Hopefully that doesn't skew the data. Well, I guess technically it doesn't matter as long as it skews it the same way.
Anyway, Amazon currently estimates a Wednesday - Thursday arrival date of next week. I'll update asap!

Right on yeah I'm a big jd fan too. Pisses me off from time to time but the 1.7x battery life is totally worth it for me. As far as I have seen there is no interference between jd and bmwp thanks for the update
Pin it to Win it.
Pretty sure JD is a necessity to Android; everyone I know has it and loves it (including me)
Related note: I received the GTMax 3500mAh I mentioned in the first post and am currently taking it through some cycles. I gotta say that it's a very noticeable improvement. I'm only on the first cycle, so we'll see if it gets better/worse. I'll be sure to post a comparison between the two (stock and extended) once I've had at least five full cycles.
Ok.. got my battery last night! First off, the place that shipped it got it here on Monday when Amazon estimated Wednesday at first, then moved it to Friday. So I'm already impressed with the third party provider.
Photos are attached.
First is the G2x with regular battery (and no TPU case that I normally keep it in)
Second is the 2800 mAh battery sticking in it for reference
Third is with the 2800 mAh case on.
I charged to 100 yesterday, and it's been running for the last 23 ½ hours, and it's at 40% currently. I've been using the hell out of it too just trying to kill it: Draw Something, Defender, texts, google chats, email, WiFi on all the time (but again, JD is running).
It's obviously bottom-heavy now with this beast in it, so that's taking some getting used to. I actually like it when the phone is being held vertically, but it kind of drives me crazy when I'm holding it horizontally. I'm sure I'll get used to it.
One thing that screws with all my plans - LG released 2.3.4 update yesterday too before I knew this battery was here, so I unrooted, flashed the updated and re-rooted. I'm now running 2.3.4 stock/root rather than my EB AOSP ISC ROM I was running before. I thought I'd have 3-4 days before the battery was here.
Anyway, more updates as I manage to kill this thing and see how it goes.
EDIT - going to bed. 29 and a half hours into first charge, at 30% currently. Will update tomorrow after work, once I 0 it out and recharge.
EDIT - 44 hours on first charge, almost exactly. Monday night at 7:47 to Wednesday afternoon at 3:51. Starting charge up now.
EDIT 3 - Uploading some usage photos. I think I'm an idiot when it comes to Battery Monitor Widget. Frankly most of this just doesn't mean anything to me, and the place I think I should see mAh estimate shows nothing. Anyway, this is normal daily usage - mostly some chatting, email, WiFi (because work appears to be build in some kind cellular Faraday Cage), lots of Draw Something, Temple Run and Defender 2. For some reason Defender doesn't show up.
Edit 4 - These screens were taken at 6%, and it easily could have lasted more time. I just wanted to charge it up and be done for the night.
Anyway, after a week or so of using this, I think it's a solid battery, but one that I'll probably pack away as a spare for weekend trips when I don't have access to a charger. I have dedicated chargers at home and work, so battery life isn't much of a concern.
For $12 I got this battery, a free USB "universal" card reader, and very fast shipping. Totally worth it.
Sounds really promising so far. The thickness is about identical to the 3500mAh one I got, but the Anker seems to outperform the GTMax so far if I compare your experience to mine.
How's the temperature? Is there a sensor?

Battery Monitor Widget measures the temperature, though I don't know how accurate it is.
I've not seen it pass 26 degrees. Stock was running 34.5 degrees when I popped it out.
Yeah I know BMW measures temp, but when you look at the graph does it show any fluctuation at all? BMW gets the temperature information from the battery's built-in temperature sensor. If it doesn't have one, all the graph will show is a straight line.
This GTMax battery gets pretty warm. Especially when charging. I'm charging it right now and the temperature is about 41C... which is hotter than the stock.
I'm definitely leaning towards this anker battery now

Well ICS, and battery just don't go well together if you use your phone, with the phone on standby you can last for a long time but if you're using it... that just means terrible battery life is to be expected. Where exactly did you buy it at?
You could try wiping the battery stats in recovery when the battery is full, run it all the way down to zero and see if that helps, but mt3g is right.
Maybe I'm used to being in school where i would have 90 percent battery at 3:30 in the afternoon, so then i would have only half the day to use it. Maybe its not the battery, maybe its me being thrown off from being on summer break. But then again, a can sit here just letting my phone sit with the screen on and watch the battery just drain...

Letting your phone drain to 0%/dead is bad for lithium ion batteries and will actualy shorten their life span.
---------- Post added at 12:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:25 AM ----------
Just a quick tip: I noticed even with the new batter that after about 70% the battery started to drain a little a faster. The biggest culprit was "Cell Standby" which hovered around 50% I set my network preference to GSM/WCDMA (Auto Mode), and this cut this battery drainer down by 50% or more.
Before switching your battery , try the BetterBatteryStats app, it helps you figure out whats eating your battery if its not actually bad. If this doesn't work, your last resort it to change your battery but i would suggest to try the app and read thru the thread for that app in the App section of this website. It will help you tons.

i used lots of extended batteries but not a 5200 size yet so i was leary of size and weight and most about back cover but i was very please with all 3. fit and feel were perfect for me so no issues there. cover has a gloss finish that shows some smudges but thats to be expected imo. price was $21.99 and free shipping which i thought was reasonable then after using it for 1 full cycle i really liked the price.back cover is also easy to remove and its much stronger than stock samsung cover which i also liked. overall i'm very pleased with the unit. got some pics to try and show some views of size/finish and overall usage stats. these stats are from 100% on first charge. i'm on second charge and stats thus far are even better and i will try to update this thread with those stats. if i missed anything you guys wanna know please ask or pm me. also forgot to add NFC (Near Field Communication): a set of standards for establishing communication between smart devices. The function is applied broadly in contactless transactions (such as Google Wallet), data exchange, simpler Wi-Fi setup, and more.
Why does it dip and come back up ? You charged it? What ROM is this?
Do a test without being on WiFi the whole time and without plugging it in.

I was thinking that you mean on Stock Firmware and all aps that man yould use i with all of that i think i got point here i was using CM and AOSP and my bat was great but without bunch of things
Actually looks pretty good to be fair. good to know you have wifi on 24/7 and screen brightness on full. 2days + with that sort of usage is great, despite what some people have put. especially for a 5200.
just as a note, can you say what apps you've used / how often through the day.
e.g. i use facebook for a good few hours.
emails check and sync regularly.
couple of hours every day browsing xda forums.
etc etc etc
that kind of thing i got myself a 7500 zero lemon battery and it is so very bulky, so im thinking about downsizing slightly to something thats still going to perform well. this looks like a good candidate
why is the last photo photoshopped to be thinner?
Pay $2 more for Anker brand IMO
I have a battery issue that i thought originally was a drain. I now dont believe it is. My phone will drain (very quickly) to 0 percent and switch off. If i plug it in (charging via USB) it will then power back up and show over 40% charge, however it will plummet again very quickly.
Many years ago I remember discussions around calibrating batteries but if i recall this was debunked as myth.
Im stock, not rooted and on 5.0.1. My N5 is becoming unusable. I suspect a "full" charge is only taking it to about 50%.
Any help appreciated.

On an 18 month old Nexus 5 - seems a bit early to be cracking it open to replace the insides
The battery is damaged

They are rated for 400 charge cycles. There are 365 days in a year. Do the math.
