I have a XZ Premium (G8141) running 47.1.A.12.145 firmware with an Android Auto issue that I'm hoping someone can help with. Sony official support has been useless.
My XZ Premium is unable to detect when it is connected by a USB cable to my car (a 2017 Volvo XC90), so it can't charge, and Android Auto does not launch on my in-car display. I know it is not a car issue because I also have a XZ (non-premium) that does charge with the same cable with the same port and does display Android Auto on the same in-car display.
I have had no luck changing various Developer Options on the XZ Premium to try to force it to detect the USB connection to the car. I strongly suspect that there is a bug in Sony's implementation of Android that is preventing the phone from detecting the car through a cable.
Note that my phone does pair with the car over bluetooth, which triggers the Android Auto app to load on the phone. My issue is Android Auto is not loading on the in-car display, and the phone is not charging.
1) Has anyone encountered this issue?
2) Does anyone here have an XZ Premium working with their car for Android Auto on the in-car display? If so, can you please tell me precisely what firmware you are running, including from which region?
3) Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.

Whenever I connect my phone by Bluetooth to my car's stereo, only the front speakers work, nothing from the 2 rear speakers. I've tried adjusting the fade and checking settings in poweramp but still nothing. I'm not sure if this would be an issue with my phone, the ROM, or the car audio system. I'm thinking it's an issue with the car's audio but I figured I'd ask here in case somebody else has had the same issue. I am on liquid smooth 3.0 April 24th build with elemental x kernel but I had the same issue with my galaxy s4

I have no problem with nexus 5 and my car Bluetooth connectivity.
Make sure that your audio system, GPS and make and model are compatible with the bluetooth from the phone. Some other connectivity issues are that the car kit cannot decode the Bluetooth device that it is trying to connect. This decode means that the system cannot recognize the name. This is a frequent problem when devices have been upgraded. While your system may have worked fine before, upgrades can cause problems because the compatibility all of a sudden changes. This is an issue that has not really been addressed by the manufacturers.
Another frequent problem that can occur is that the Bluetooth will connect but then it will not stay connected and only one speaker is running,. Many times this can be a hardware issue.
So the bluetooth device can connect but it does not work properly. In this case there is an issue with the stereo connection to the Bluetooth unit. There is nothing actually wrong with the bluetooth or devices but this is a software issue. To fix it see if the manufacturer is offering any updates. If one person has had the issue then you can bet that many people will have the problem. This is a problem with the car kit software as no matter which phone or earpiece you use the audio will not play from the speakers. Check that the vehicle supports bluetooth audio as some only will support bluetooth phone calls. These are 2 very different things.
Most of the time, look into the settings for the bluetooth and the car system. If the car battery should die then the system may reset to the defaults. This means that all of the current settings will be lost and need to be reset. Not only will you need to check the settings in the car system but also in your phone or other bluetooth device. In order to correct the bluetooth settings the device will need to be connected to the computer.

I have an aftermarket Kenwood double DIN deck with Bluetooth 2.1. It connects perfectly fine, shows up with Nexus 5 when pairing, shows the song title, shows the name of the person calling... It works great when plugged in through the aux port, but of course doesn't show me any information that way. When I had the S4 it showed up as SGH-M919. It stays connected just fine and I had it playing for a while before I tried turning up the volume and noticed it didn't sound right and figured out the rear speakers weren't playing.
I just checked and noticed there is a somewhat recent update on Kenwood's site but it was still about 3 weeks before I bought the deck... I'll try doing that though. (edit) just checked again and the update isn't for my model, there's no software for it
Thank you for answering since I'm pretty sure now that it's a problem with the stereo and nothing to do with Android lol
Kind of embarrassed to admit it but...I did have Car Toys install it so... they probably didn't do a very great job. I knew I should have had either Best Buy do it or tracked down a friend that could do it. Oh well
Xperia XZ - UK & US versions - Android Auto is not working while connected to the car
Hello Fellas,
I had Xperia Z5C totally working with no issue and now the XZ while connected to the car is not recognized by AA. I have tired all 4 USB modes.
Any hints?
Thanks in advance.
Hey there,
I have a TW market model XZ, and it works fine with my AA.
When the popup appears, I dont actually select anything, if i leave it, AA launches automatically momentarily.
Not sure why yours is behaving differently.
Alright, I had a generic USB-C cable that worked perfectly with Nexus 5X and Android Auto but apparently Sony doesn't like it, I switched to Sony cable which was supplied in the phone box and it works just fine. Now I have to invest more into some more cable probably from Sony. Didn't know it makes any difference.
I read that Android Auto doesn't require mirrorlink to work with your car, but I cannot get Android Auto to work with my Honda Civic EX Hatch 2017 without enabling mirrorlink.
When I connect my USB C cable with mirrorlink off, nothing happens. It doesn't even detect a device as being connected on my phone or the car's infotainment screen.
When I start mirrorlink it instantly brings up my Samsung device on the car's dashboard and phone goes into android auto mode with a black backdrop.
Hi, I've got a civic hatch and an S8+. Android auto works exactly the same as it did with my Pixel xl.
Start with the basics. Have you got android auto installed on the phone?
Which usb port are you using? I think it only works with the front one.
I can check any settings on the car or phone if you need to check anything
I'm wondering if anyone has problems with their car kit and xz premium.
I had a nexus 5X which always worked flawlessly regardless of android version or rom.
My car only allows headset connectivity, no stereo audio for music, just calls.
So here's the problem, since having the Sony I can make calls fine but incoming calls are troublesome.
I have to answer the call (car or phone controls) then switch from bluetooth to speaker (car keeps ringing) then answer again using the car controls, then swap speaker to Bluetooth on the handset. Then it stops ringing (car not handset) and the audio is routed correctly.
Any one have the same or found a fix?
I have never had any issue with the XZP for handling BT calls, switching music or any other apps in the Car. The only issue, though minor, is once in a while the Song info doesn't come in my car display.
Bluetooth music did not work in latest BMW 530i and Sony xz premium.
Sony xz worked good in the same car.
there is definitely something going on with Bluetooth and XZ premium
I haven't had any issues, I have been using it for both calls and music in my car and with various headsets without a problem. My wife has the phone too and hasn't had any problems with Bluetooth, connecting to either of our cars for calls and music.
My Mercedes BT media interface will freeze BT searching in XZP and stream doesn't work at all.

On my Kenwood unit, after pairing and allowing contacts share, some show up ok but I also have the majority showing name as blank and (No Number).
Not sure but going to try disconnecting and pairing again.

I have tried a factory reset of the Kenwood unit in the car but the issue remains.
Anyone got any ideas please? [emoji3]

There are some Bluetooth issues and it seems to be the phone. Had mine a week and a few times its not auto paired and on a few other occasions when playing music the track names are not updating on the car display. Never happened on my S6 with Nougat.
Bluetooth looks massively updated in Android O, hope Sony gets us the update quickly.

This is the problem I have. Got the latest 420d and the phone section works appart from no phone book access. No incoming call Ringtones. No connected drive app support and you cant play music from the phone using Bluetooth
Bluetooth issues have been bothering me since I upgraded from Xperia Z3 to XZ Premium. I have an android car head unit and the Z3 worked flawlessly for calls and media audio but the XZP will only give me media audio no matter what I try.

Bloody annoying or what?
I have the issue with my (both new) xz premium & renault megane. Phone connects to media settings, but not the phone settings then approx 3 mins later disconnects everything. It also won't show any album artwork/artist info. I hope Sony fix this soon as I'm about to scream.
Do the issues persist after the last updates? I plan to buy a XZP but I need bluetooth in my car so it will definitely guide my choice!
Hi. My XZP has updated to android 8 and now the Bluetooth works as expected ?
Oreo did not bring any change the problems persist

This did the trick for me: changed to BT AVRCP Ver 1.5
Spotify BT integration: Xperia XZ Premium G8141 (8.0.0 build 47.1.A.12.75) - BMW330e 2017
1. Enable developer mode:
system - about phone - build number - tap 7 times at "build number"
2. Set Bluetooth AVRCP to ver 1.5:
system - developer options - Bluetooth AVRCP Version - select "AVRCP 1.5"
3. Delete existing BT pairing and make a new one
Done!
It seems that Android Auto (including wireless via Motorola M1) works flawlessly for a few days after setting it up.
Once it enters the "looking for Android Auto" mode there's no other way than removing cache and app settings and establishing the phone -car connection from scratch. And after doing so, it will work for a few days until it starts looking and not connecting again.
Is this a known issue? Is this specific to the wireless adapter? Once the error occurs, wired connection doesn't help.
I also have the AAWireless device somewhere and I'll have a look.
Check the Android Auto forums, maybe some info there...

My wife and I have been using wireless (and wired) Android Auto in our car with the P7P for three weeks with no issues like this. Our car's head unit doesn't have native wireless AA, though - we're using AAWireless. Could be just the head unit or the car needs a firmware update (my car has occasionally received one when I have it connected to my home's Wi-Fi).

I've noticed very different Android Auto experiences with the same phone but different car brands before. I've used Android Auto in either 4 cars so far, two of them rentals. I believe my rental VW's Android Auto was horrendously slow and hard to get the touchscreen to respond, whatever the next rental was, was fine. Chevy and Subaru have been fine, too, although my Chevy Android Auto experience seemed better than Subaru, but the Subaru is acceptable.
