Bootloader Unlock Guide - Huawei MediaPad M5 Guides, News, & Discussion

DISCLAIMER: I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your device. Use the steps below at your own risk . Be mindful of the facts unlocking bootloader voids your warranty and also hard resets your device - ALL YOUR DATA, SETTINGS, FILES AND APPS WILL BE DELETED. These steps worked for me - I own Chinese version of 8.4" LTE model. I do not know if they will work for any other models of M5, including European versions, WiFi only version and 10" models.
To execute the steps below you will need to obtain unlock code, specific to bootloader of your device. There is a slow, painful and free way to get it, and there is a quick and easy way to get the code instantly, which will cost you 4 euros. The slow way is to create Huawei ID, register on Huawei website and request the unlock code directly from Huawei, through dedicated link they provide. I do not use this method, so I don't have the link - do not ask. You will have to provide justification why you need it, such as being a developer and you bought the device to develop and make a living off of it - something Huawei support would find reasonable. In most cases they will not agree to unlock bootloader if you just tell them you want to install some roms. In this guide I will be describing the other method to get it done, which costs 4 euros.
Follow these steps.
1. Go to DC Unlocker website, register for an account (or login, if you already have one)
2. Buy 4 credits (cost is 4 euro) using the Buy link
3. Download the latest DC Unlocker client (pictures 1,2 below)
4. Open the DC Unlocker client, click "server" tab on the right (picture 1) , enter your website login you created in step 1 and click "Check Login"
5. Select "Huawei phones" from "Select manufacturer" dropdown
6. On your M5, go to Dialer app, and type in *#*#2846579#*#* to open Project Menu
7. Click Background Settings->USB Port Settings->Manufacture Mode
8. Connect your M5 to PC via USB cable and return to DC Unlocker client
9. Click the Search button to detect your device. It should be detected as "Huawei HiSilicon Kirin Android" (picture 1)
10. Click "Unlocking" tab
11. Click "Read Bootloader Code"(picture 2). It may not work on the first try, but don't worry - unsuccessful bootloader code reads do not spend your credits. Give it a few seconds, disconnect/reconnect USB cable and try again
12. Copy and save generated bootloader code
13. Download Huawei Multi Tool from the bottom of this page and install it
14. Boot into download mode by powering off your M5, then holding Vol Down + Power keys simultaneously for a few seconds and then plugging in USB cable while still holding these 2 keys
15. Open Multi Tool v8 and paste the code you got from DC Unlocker into "Get Unlock Key" input field
16 Click "Use your key" button next to it (picture 3)
17. On the bottom right click the green "Unlock bootloader" button
18. You will get a bunch of warnings on your M5 screen about unlocking bootloader - press Vol Up key and then Power key
19. At this point your bootloader will be unlocked and M5 will factory reset itself
Note: using Multi Tool is optional. Instead, if you have ADB tools with fastboot installed on your PC, then after step 14 you can just use fastboot to unlock your bootloader, by typing "fastboot oem unlock <code>"
Note 2: I don't do tech support via PM, so don't PM me for help or with questions. Use the thread instead, and some other XDA members or myself will probably help you. Good luck!
Now I'm hoping some dev takes a shine to our phablet, and compiles TWRP build for it. It can certainly be installed now that we managed to unlock the bootloader

To enter Project Mode on Wifi only tablets, open calculator and enter () () 2,846,579 () (). On 10.8" tablet, it will need to be in landscape mode to get all the calculator symbols to show.

Am I right that warranty is still intact, as Huawei does not know what we are doing?
as long as we relock it when we are done ?

Why do we have to pay for it? I bet there's an easy way to unlock it without to pay, isn't it?
This Page describe an unlock process for huawei devices that's likely the prozess for Google or Motorola devices.
Isn't it working on the M5, too?

I think an answer for using the "unofficial" way would be that officially having an unlocked bootloader may void your warranty and I do not know how nice Huawei plays with that, so that the "official" way is not the best option to many people ...
If the device is halfway bricked, however, and you cannot restore the locked bootloader, they still know and are not too friendly either, because one did not use the proper method ...

Your assumptions are incorrect. Warranty is voided no matter whichever way you use to unlock. The correct answer to Marcopoloy13' post is that (1) he doesn't "have to" do anything, and (2) the site he linked, simply echoes what I already said in the OP - that you can contact Huawei to request the unlock code.

Was just guessing

I requested the unlock code via email. They were quick in replying but none of the codes they sent worked. They sent me 4 different codes and one was even my tablets serial number! Gave up asking in the end and will just use dc unlocker.

If you have been successful unlocking your M5 bootloader using the steps provided - please share your experience here, including any kind of problems you've encountered and how did you solve them. This will help others.

Worked for me with no issues. Quick and easy.

You could have a look at this thread from the Huawei Mate 9 forum and give it a try but with relevant Mediapad M5 firmware! https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-install-magisk-mate-9-running-t3773878

I am trying yo get debian9 with xfce fully installed on this tablet with NO andriod system running such as linux deploy or VNC....

Am I the only one who couldn't get these instructions to work?
I can't get the device to install cleanly on either or my two Windows PCs. Perhaps I need drivers?
Perhaps as a result, DC Unlocker won't find my phone via automatic detection.
I might be able to get a code elsewhere - but I also can't get this thing to boot into Download mode.
Am I supposed to enable anything in Developer Options?
When I hook up to my PC, I get asked whether I want to charge only or xfer files or photos. Does it matter what I select?
Manufacture mode tends to revert back to Hisuite mode after I disconnect the USB cable.
Thanks...
(ETA - I figured out DL mode - the instructions say "power keyS" not "power key" - my bad)
(ETA - I got my key from DC. Got the following error message from Multi-Tool - 'Error! Unable to execute command, check the status of Bootloader and FRP (Phone Finder).' I'll figure this out.)
(ETA - turns out you have to enable OEM unlocking, who'd a thunk it. For the record, I'm not that Android illiterate, this is simply the first device I have bought in years, the first device I've bought within days of first root, and I'm used to everything being spelled out. Big thanks to the OP nonetheless!)

How'd you fix the device not being detected? I've tried everything to get drivers installed, but none of them work. I'm stuck at finding the phone via automatic detection.

I'm not 100% sure, but three things:
Make sure to enable USB debugging via Developer Options.
Make sure you are still in Manufacturer mode, and have not been reverted back to Hisuite mode, before hooking it up to your PC .
I installed and opened Multi-Tool before I successfully generated a code; I forget if I did anything in particular, but it prompted me to download a Huawei_Drivers zip file that I might or might not have needed.

I managed to fix it, but I'm also not clear on what I did that caused it to work for others who might be running into the problem.
The last thing I did before it worked was install and update the latest HiSuite from Huawei's website. Otherwise I also was trying to install the Huawei drivers from Multi-Tool. Either one of those is likely the culprit for it finally working.

Hey. Has anyone managed to get the unlock code out of Huawei for the Honor 6+ PR-TL10 recently I've read that people have had an issue with it and noticed that at least one other poster here had had an issue getting one off them. I get an error on the site saying I'm to email them, from what I've read on other threads though they haven't been forth coming with the unlock codes. Did anyone manage to get it out of them or find another solution. I'm trying to root my phone and such things but without the code from what I've read I won't have much/any luck. Cheers

I had the same issue but managed to get a response after 5 days. I emailed both from my gmail (in english) and from my wive's qq mail (in chinese) and got reply to both today in chinese.
Here's a link to the Root files that is working: http://chinagadgetsreviews.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/download-huawei-honor-6-plus-root-file.html

Quite easy to setup (skip step 1 and 2 if you already have adb and fastboot):
1. Install adb tools (一键安装adb 工具)
2. Run fastboot tool 点这里开始.bat from "Smart unlock tool" folder
3. Copy SuperSU_Pro_v2.42-BETA_update_iKiraCN.zip to your phone's root folder
4. Run recovery tool (荣耀6Plus可刷第三方REC) and select option 2
5. Turn off phone, hit power + volume up buttons to enter CWM recovery
6. Flash the SuperSU_Pro_v2.42-BETA_update_iKiraCN.zip file by selecting "install zip"
How and where to download these files you mentioned?

There's no quick and easy guide because the phone is chinese and there's no official support for it in europe or anywhere else. If you wanted easy rooting you should've bought a nexus phone. That IS the rooting process, provided you have unlocked your phone with the code from Huawei first. If you read the author's post he mentions it at the first step and there are other threads about how to unlock your phone. It needs to be unlocked before it can be rooted. You can do it from Huawei's website if you are in the countries they send codes to or if you're not (like me) you can do what I did and email them. Here's the thread on that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2800079 . To save you the time of searching how and where to email them here's what I did (original post isn't mine):
Email them at [email protected]. DO NOT email from a gmail account they won't reply to you:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am not able to generate my bootloader unlock code for my Honor 6 Plus. Please send me the unlock code for my device:
Model: PE-TL10
SN: XXXXXXXXXXX
IMEI: XXXXXXXXXX
Product ID: XXXXXXX
And hope they will reply to you. I also had my wife send it in chinese from her QQ mail and they only replied to her because I used gmail. In case you want the chinese version here it is:
你好,
我需要我的荣耀 6 plus的解锁代码。但是因为人在国外无法从网上获取,请问可以发给我吗? 谢谢
Model: PE-TL10
SN: XXXXXXXXXX
IMEI: XXXXXXXXX
Product ID: XXXXXXXX
At the thread I mentioned earlier there are solutions for getting the code via different emails: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2800079&page=395
I suggest you create a QQ mail or a weibo account like the fella in the thread above.
Now about the rooting process it doesn't require any chinese knowledge that's why I've put the steps there and mentioned all the sub-steps you need to do. In case you don't know what "root folder" means in the steps it's the parent folder when you connect your phone to the pc. It's called root folder in linux/android.
Spare the crap and tell me the unlocking bootloader method again.

Whatever the thing is. First of all tell me how to get unlocking bootloader code? Secondly the author of the post mentioned the steps. OK! But then again, if he is an expert that he actually wrote the article for rooting the Honor 6+ phone, then how come is simply showed the screenshots and just got moving like as if he was on a rollercoaster. He should have explained all the steps in great details. Thirdly he was so absent minded while writing that in his first initial post, wherein he is explaining the whole process, he forgot to paste the link(s) for the tools we need to follow his steps. He mentioned in furhter down the line post, the link where we can have all those files. Fourthly, the tools names are bit changed against what he used himself in the tutorial. Fiftly I have installed the ADB tools, will somebody tell me how to do that fastboot mode or whatever crap that is? I am stuck.
So kindly, if you are that much expert, just explain to me in layman terms. By the way I am not a fool, I have used samsung and sony phones before and rooted them multiple times.
Thanking you once again.

Fixed step 2 in the process, refer to it.
I have already mentioned in detail how to get the unlock code from Huawei. The link to Huawei's unlocking page is here: http://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin.php?id=unlock&mod=detail . On their website it's quite simple if you create an account you can just put your serial number and request for code if Huawei supports your country. Otherwise follow the email process I mentioned above.

There's no option to select in your screenshot, it says "PRESS ANY KEY"!!!
I wouldn't suggest you go ahead with your phone rooting if you can't follow simple instructions cause you might end up bricking your device. You will have to do a lot of research on how fastboot, rooting and adb work then come back and try it again.
What simple instructions you are talking about?

I wouldn't suggest you go ahead with your phone rooting if you can't follow simple instructions cause you might end up bricking your device. You will have to do a lot of research on how fastboot, rooting and adb work then come back and try it again.

Did you even tell me what to do with my UNLOCKING CODE for BOOTLOADER? yet you say I will brick my device. I told you that I have rooted phones before, and if this one is new for me, OK, explain things so that I will do it once and then be on my own next time with any huawei device. Tell me first what to do with the bootloader unlock code which I have recieved from HUAWEI. Secondly I am going to post you the second picture of the tool after PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE and you be the judge of what the heck its trying to say in the chinese.
1- successfully installed ADB drives.
2- Ran this fastboot tool 点这里开始.bat from "Smart unlock tool" folder and the step 2 gives me the WAITING FOR DEVICE message and after that its long gone and no response. What should I do here? Which Mode should the mobile be in during all this step 2?
but before doing step 2, tell me should I connect my phone in normal MTP DEVICE mode or should I Power it off and boot into recovery or flash kind of stuff mode?
just tell me first 2 steps then I can manage hopefully.
and first and foremost, do not forget to tell me about what to do with the bootloader unlock code.
Thank you sir.

How did you root devices without knowing how to fastboot a device or use adb tools?!?! I've already sent you the link to the thread with the full guide for unlocking the phone I won't go through it again here just because you haven't gone through the trouble of reading it.
As far as the message goes it says "Waiting for device" that implies your device isn't recognized either because it's not unlocked or you haven't turned on usb debugging mode in developer options. I won't explain to you how fastboot and adb work here there are plenty of guides out there which you should've read already. Do some research and read the threads carefully before replying.

[GUIDE] Unlock Bootloader, Root & Install TWRP **UPDATE 11/24/15**

For an easy way to unlock & root your X2 here are the steps you need to take. This has been requested by a number of you so here it goes:
1) Unlock your bootloader. There are three steps you can take. The first two are free. The third method requires you to pay a few dollars but it works and is the fastest way. I would highly recommended this method. This is confirmed working on all models.
Option 1: Send an email to [email protected] Email them the following. They usually email you back and tell you to do option 2 or never email you back:
Hello. I keep getting an error when trying to unlock my phone on the unlock page.
Model: GEM-703L (Or whatever model you have)
Serial: Put in your phones serial number here. (You get this in About phone, Status)
IMEI: Put in your phones IMEI number here. (You get this in About phone, Status, it's IMEI1)
Product ID: (Go into your phone dialer and dial *#*#1357946#*#* and it will give you your Product ID)
Thank you for your help
(Your name here)
Option 2: Make a Huawei ID on your phone and stay signed in for 14 days and then go online to unlock your bootloader and it should work on the website.
Option 3: If you want to unlock your phone immediately and don't mind paying a few dollars this is the best and easiest way. Thanks to kpcheang2 for the original information. Visit here:
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/how-to-read-huawei-bootloader-unlock-code
- Download the DC Unlocker Software
- On their site buy 4 credits. https://www.dc-unlocker.com/buy I used PayPal. It cost me around $4.38 USD.
- Follow the instructions in their tutorial. Make sure you put the phone in Manufacture Mode. Choose "Read Bootloader Code" in DC-Unlocker to get your bootloader code.
- Put your phone in bootloader mode (plug into the computer and hold in power and volume down with the phone off) and do a fastboot oem unlock xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx where x is your bootloader unlock code the DC Unlocker program gave you.
2) Download TWRP recovery from here if you're already on Android 5.1.1
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862716585
2b) Download this TWRP if you're on Android 5.0 (Now in English!)
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767151055
Put your phone into Bootloader Mode and fastboot flash the TWRP recovery file you downloaded. (extract the img file from the rar file first) I'm not gonna go over how to use Fastboot here as there are many guides on many different websites on how to use it. Then do a fastboot reboot. When your phone reboots shut it back down and then hold in volume up and power until it turns on and keep holding in volume up until the phone boots into TWRP recovery.
3) Root your phone.
In TWRP flash SuperSU:
After flashing, reboot your phone and you will be rooted. If you want to manually upgrade to a specific Huawei build or flash back to stock, flash one of my modded Kangvip ROMS or visit bark1234's or eenapps thread for the downloads and instructions. Thanks to bark1234 and eennap for their threads and downloads.
Still nothing
So I've been trying to root since I was able to unlock my bootloader, which I was able to do from the website method.
I could not get adb to work with the other method listed on here.
Now with fastboot, my device is identified per the fastboot devices
I am able to run command fastboot flash recovery twrp_cn.img and it looks successful
so I restart and shut down
hold vol up and power and it vibrates and restarts and vibrates and restarts.....
I go back and flash the default recovey and am able to access this with the vol up and power, but cannot get to the twrp recovery. I have tried flashing a couple of versions and no custom recovery can I boot to.
Any help would be appreciated.

What model are you using? Also, what are you on, B106? When you boot into TWRP, I'm sure you already know this but make sure there is no cable plugged into the phone. Mine vibrates once after installing TWRP but I remain holding in volume up and it boots into TWRP the second time.

I don't know why they aren't responding to you. I'm starting to worry that when my new X2 comes (I ordered a second one) they won't respond to me either. I'm sure there will be a workaround.
I've been e-mailing them for almost two months and I haven't received one reply from them. I have the 703L and I've tried their website over and over with Google Translate's help. I always get the same error about the log books not being older than 14 days. I just can't get anywhere with Huawei and it's super frustrating that they don't support the U.S. that well.
What I did
Just signed up for the huawei cloud service. And after 14 days I was able to get the unlock code. Worked first time after trying the email way and waiting.

How were you able to sign in to the cloud service, every time I try I get that the Network is not available.
I went to this page with chrome http://www.emui.com/plugin.php?id=unlock&mod=detail and let it translate for me. It took mrme to a login page and I bit the bullet and signed up. 14 days later I got my unlock code from the same page.
Can anyone confirm that dual sim works after using this root method. When i use boot.img root method, dual sim stops working.

I can use new OP to succesfully unlock my phone.
Does anyone know if these instructions would work on the Mediapad M2? They both use the same SoC and the display resolution is the same, though the M2 is 8" and the X2 is 7". The M2 ships with Lollipop 5.1 instead of 5.0, but I don't know if that makes any difference here.

DC Unlocker should work to unlock your bootloader but I'm not sure about everything else. I would imagine if you could find a build of TWRP for the M2 you can use the root method in the OP and it should work.

I have been trying to look, but I have yet to find TWRP for M2. I guess it's just too new yet and/or not popular enough to have garnered much support from the community. Thanks anyways, I'll just proceed with unlocking the bootloader for now.

Anyone know of a working root?

Just got a Nokia 3.1 to use a testing tool and other fun stuff, and therefore would like to root it. Does anyone of you know of a working root of the 3.1?
So this phone is a no go for root and custom roms I guess.

Why do you think so? Bootloader can be unlocked via Developer settings, and I think there is no special magic preventing this device from rooting.
I would try rooting it by flashing some SuperSU zips or something like that, but I didn't try it yet
Has anyone checked this out? I haven't purchased a Nokia 3.1 but am considering it. I went so far as to create a Nokia account and there is a bootloader unlock apk, as well as an unlock.key that can be downloaded, and there are clear instructions on the Nokia page itself.. Since I don't have the phone, I did not attempt to proceed. However, if the 3.1 qualifies (I don't see why it wouldn't) then getting root should be as easy as following Magisk instructions.
There is even a page for the open source releases.
If I were to get the 3.1, my main objective would likely be to just obtain root. Looks like it should be doable.
Edit - well over 100 views since I posted this but no one has tried to unlock and/or root. I thought that was the purpose of this thread.

That is unfortunate! Perhaps, does activating Developer Options allow to select OEM Unlocking and USB Debuging, then running the Unlocking App? To run step 5 of 5 (see NOKIA INSTRUCTIONS below) you would need to have USB Debugging enabled anyway. Nowhere in the instructions is that mentioned.
FYI - Activate Developer Options: Go to Settings>About Phone and tap Build Number 7 times. Back out to access Developer Options.
Also, I do not have this phone but am interested in it. I cannot confirm if any of the advice I am giving will work, but it is what I would try.
NOKIA INSTRUCTIONS
Introduction
Firstly, we need to validate that the phone you would like to unlock is operated by you. There are a few steps to this, so we ask that you carefully follow all instructions. Let’s get started.
To participate, simply complete the following steps:
1. Please download the Nokia Bootloader Unlocker app. You can download the apk from this link and install the apk on your device. If you don’t understand how to install an apk on your device, please do not unlock the bootloader on your device. Doing so will void your phone's warranty and may cause irreparable damage.
2. Launch the Nokia Bootloader Unlocker app and fill your email information and click “Submit”.
3. The app will display a code. Please enter this in the form below along with your email address. Then press "Request to Unlock"
Your bootloader can now be unlocked. Follow the instructions below:
Step 1/5
Check the email you entered during registration. You should receive an email with a message as follows:
Hi, Thanks for requesting the unlocking bootloader. Please download your unlock key from the following link. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Download the unlock key and save it as “unlock.key”.
Step 2/5
Power off your device. Once powered off, press and hold the Volume Down button.
Step 3/5
While keeping the Volume Down button pressed, connect the device to the computer via USB cable. The device will boot into “Download mode”. If you have difficulty, try powering up normally, power off the device again and start back from Step 1.
Step 4/5
Download the following fastboot binary for your OS here.
Step 5/5
Open a command prompt:
Windows: Start > cmd
Mac: Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app
Linux: Terminal
Navigate to the directory where the previously downloaded unlock.key file is saved. Then enter the following commands:
fastboot flash unlock unlock.key
fastboot oem unlock
If successful, you should see the below message:
Unlock success!
Then reboot the device by entering the following command:
fastboot reboot
You are done!
It doesn't work either way. I tried with both those options enabled and disabled but the program always crashes. It's interesting to note that the app itself fails to install through chrome or "Files" app. Gives an error saying "Can't open app". I only managed to install it through ES File Explorer. Could it be because of I bought the phone on a Vodafone store? I can't find the original stock rom to flash, sadly.

I have been researching this and have found that, as of this writing, only the Nokia 8 qualifies for bootloader unlocking. See here. The only thing holding me back from jumping on this Nokia 3.1 is the inability to unlock the bootloader (and maybe the lack of fingerprint sensor.) Hopefully it gets "approved soon".
Currently the oem unlock using the Nokia bootloader unlock only works for Nokia 8
is there a way to root the 3.1 yet successfully? im a noob at this stuff and don't want to screw my phone.

No, not until Nokia decides to allow users to unlock bootloader.
What about the 3.1 plus. I've already unlocked OEM. I just started looking, thought I'd start here first.

It doesn't matter if you have enabled "OEM unlocking" option in Developer settings, currently Nokia doesn't allow unlocking of bootloader and thus rooting device, unless you are Nokia 8 user. You can try this, but it will crash almost for sure.
As far as I can tell, my bootloader is unlocked. I am a noob of course, but I have been researching this topic for a couple of months now. I could be mistaken in thinking "upload" mode is it, but I can't seem to figure out the difference. Otherwise, I don't know what to do next.

To get to "Upload" mode? Assuming it's the same for the 3.1 Plus-maybe I should have specified that-holding power button and volume up during startup will open "Upload" mode.
You can also use adb with the command "reboot bootloader." For that reason, I think it's the bootloader, but I could be wrong.
Sorry if I was a bit misleading and it is totally different on the Nokia 3.1, I was just some kinda hopeful to actually see people talk about it.

I'm not bringing any sizable programming skills to the table unless somebody wants to teach me real fast.
Hopefully, I bring tidings of great joy. So I got two these Nokia's and they're both locked. to the carrier, Cricket. I suspect they are at least unlawfully locked. . My understanding is you can't lock to used phone especially if it's been sold as a prepaid phone. I believe this falls under the reseller flex policy. I bought it off of eBay from a guy that sells nothing but phones and he's been extremely cagey about what he'll admit to, so I called the carrier. I literally waited an hour and a half on the phone because I am falling asleep and I was on a computer speaker phone so it kept on the time of the call. I only held that long because I had fallen asleep. Anyway since I'm not in a cricket or AT&T customer then don't plan to eitherbe they could care less about me it actually told me they didn't have any information on the phone after I gave them the IMEI number.
My guess is the fcc's not going to do much because it's a trump Administration. So I spent about 45 minutes on the phone with Nokia and well at least they're interesting I think Microsoft paid between 7 and 12 billion to acquire them I recently sold them off for like a box of jujyfruits. Anyway they're committed to customer service so I figure my predicament might give me an in there.
So those unlock codes that it was a link earlier in the post for that's just to unlock the bootloader, right? You know this is a pretty decent phone for a low-end guy I got the newer 3.1 C it's got Cricket's bootloader in bloatware on it,
takes up a ton of space.
I mean it probably won't happen but if Nokia ever goes public again - I think the acquiring companies. Their eye on the prize and they're going to kick some ass. So I'm all in on this let's get this done. If you want I can see what I can do about asking Nokia 4 whatever it's going to take just to keep me a satisfied customer since they know Cricket/ATT isn't following the Obama regs.
Oof... It would be beautiful if Nokia customer support could guide us onto rooting this phone.
its so simple to unlock oem on nokia 3.1 plus. no third app needed. after developer option on -> go to developer option setting -> there is toggle button to on/off developer option , just use that toggle to off it and on it -> press yes for on dev options -> and select oem unlock. that all
It is pretty straightforward once you have unlocked bootloader (not by Nokia). If you want, you can simply dump boot_a or boot_b with SPflash tool, patch in Magisk app, and reflash.
Otherwise you can use my TWRP (NO TOUCH, and has disabled dm-verity). Please note it's only working on build v3.180, updates not supported - as it was only needed for my project.

Bootloader unlocked - then what?

Hi, so I have the Chinese PDEM30 version of the Oppo X2 Pro and I've applied for the bootloader unlock using the in depth testing APK from Oppo. As I believe it was made available in July, wondering if anyone else has done this yet and had approval already?
Once (if) I get approval, I gather the unlock is pretty simple:
1) App says approved
2) restart into recovery mode by holding power + volume down (after backing up data of course).
3) plug into PC and use ADB to unlock using the simple generic fasboot command (after enabling USB debugging in developer options of course).
PHONE UNLOCKED!
So here comes the silly question - does this mean I can load ANY ROM I want or does it have to be a custom ROM via TWRP or some other tool.
I simply want to load the global ROM, so assuming I can just do this from the recovery mode. Obviously right now it doesn't work as we get the "this is an older version" error. Will an unlocked bootloader solve this or is there more to it?
Appreciate any help from someone a bit more familiar with the process.
Thanks
Ben
and FYI, here's the current status in the testing app, I have to wait until the 10th September for the result. Fingers crossed!

How to root Sprint Oneplus 7 pro 5g GM1925
Here are the steps that I found, from trial and error, to root Sprint Oneplus 7 pro 5g GM1925:
Disclaimer: I'm new to this. I did it on Windows 10. Maybe there is a simpler, shorter, and efficient way to do it, but I don't know it.
Some errors I did:
1. Unlocking the bootloader in Android 10. I could have done the procedure wrong, but when I tried unlocking the bootloader in Android 10 it didn't work. Yes, I could unlock it, but the phone wouldn't boot to "normal" and the recovery didn't work too; it just stood in a fastboot (if that is what is call) even when selecting start. Meaning I brick my device, but no worries I'm writing this because I manage a way to do it.
2. Updating the phone early in the steps to Android 10.
Steps:
1. Go to https://www.xda-developers.com/what-is-adb/ read and follow. You'll need this later. TIP Remember to select the "Default USB configuration" to "Transferring files" in developer options.
2. Power off your device. Connect the charging cable to the computer but NOT to the phone. On your computer right-click on the windows logo (the logo in the bottom left if you have the taskbar in the bottom). From there select "Device Manager". Hold both volume buttons (+ and -), and connect the charging cable to the phone. While holding the volume buttons, in Device Manager you should see that your phone is registered by a driver with a yellow exclamation mark. Update that driver. Disconnect the phone from the charging cable.
3. Go to https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/sprint-msmdownloadtool-unbrick-t3989841 and follow the steps. In summary, download the file provided and use it. This will format the phone. When it is done do a quick setup, the next step is going to format it again. This step will put the device in Android 9, but do NOT update. Remember to set up the phone for ADB.
4. Go to https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...otloader-unlock-sprint-oneplus-7-pro-t4042145 and follow the steps. In summary download, the file provided and use it. This step will unlock the bootloader. Do NOT update. After boot, remember to set up the phone for ADB. TIP The moment the application screen says is done (the download bar is green) rapidly hold both volume buttons (+ and -).
5. Finally, go to https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/guide-bootloader-unlock-twrp-install-t3940368 and follow the steps/links starting from the part of installing TWRP (the bootloader is already unlocked in step 4). In the link I provided, they'll be a link (the last one) that will let you update the phone, follow the steps layout there.
I hope this helps and works.
So basically what I learned is you have to flash a developer preview of 10. Unlock the bootloader then downgrade back to a stable international and then update and root. Fastboot commands where broken or not recognize in the dev preview so you had to switch up. But the dev prev allowed the oem unlock to be checked

I didn't understand some parts if not all of what you wrote, a bit lost with the terms like developer preview of 10, dev preview, and international (what does it mean in Android). I'm new to this. But what I can certainly affirm is, in an overview and in some way, I downgraded, did everything there: unlock the bootloader and root, and finally update.

Sorry to say, the answer is no. I have the Sprint model too, GM1925. No Dual SIM. (And now, thanks to Sprint AND T-Mobile, no 5G for us anymore EITHER! I'm pissed. But off topic...) See here, quote from Whoareyou, comment #18:

This is incorrect, there is no way to enable dual SIM on the GM1920 or GM1925. This would require a modem.img with the SDX50 dsds configs, which we don't have.
you can however the flash the European 10 update on to the Sprint model, there are issues with Sprint data, but non Sprint carriers work fine.

When it is done do a quick setup, the next step is going to restore it again.

Hello man. I know it has been a long time and I haven't responded to or help you, but here I am.
In Step 2 you are updating/installing the driver so the Phone can be recognized on your PC. What I can infer from this message is that you already have the driver; that means that you can continue to the next step. If that is not the case -you don't have the driver install- then selected one of the following two links to download the driver: Link #1 https://www.driverarchives.com/pc/hp/bm388aa-abm/231997/qualcomm-hs-usb-qdloader-9008-com4-.html Link #2 https://gsmusbdrivers.com/download/android-qualcomm-usb-driver/
I recommend Link #2. In both, you'll need a program that unzips the file -I recommend 7-zip (https://www.7-zip.org)-. Then run the executable file where you'll install the driver. And definitely after that, you can continue to the next step.
I hope this helps and works.
