Can't connect to AT&T LTE APNs with custom ROMs - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a 32GB US version Nexus 5 which up until today has been totally factory, updated to the final 6.0.0 release from Google. Today I installed the latest official releases of TWRP, then LineageOS (with OpenGApps nano) and ran into no issues until I got LineageOS up and discovered that mobile data didn't work. This is using the same AT&T SIM which previously worked fine. I checked in the Access Point Names menu and determined that some APNs which are included but not selected will allow me to connect using 3G but none will allow LTE. APNs which should allow LTE, even one that I create myself using parameters from AT&T's website, do not connect at all; I can see signal strength, but no data connection is made as if I had Wi-Fi active even when it is disabled. If I use the "Bearer" field to specify that I want to allow only LTE, the entry I am editing disappears entirely from the menu after being saved. LTE is set as the preferred network type in mobile network settings by default, and I haven't changed it.
I tried swapping the AT&T SIM with a Google Fi SIM I had on hand and the Google SIM worked fine with LTE, but unfortunately I'm intending to use this phone with AT&T.
After having no success with LineageOS I wanted to rule out issues with the specific image being used, so I reflashed using Resurrection Remix based on 8.1 instead of 7.1 like Lineage. However, this made no difference - I can still connect with 3G but not LTE. Since I've upgraded three other phones to Lineage and never seen a similar issue, I am a bit mystified. Is this a known issue with the Nexus 5 that requires some sort of workaround, or do I have something odd going on?

ROMs for Global/GSM roaming

Hi everyone,
I have a d2vzw running Carbon ROM Kitkat. I spent the weekend back in the UK and enabled global mode, which connected to Vodafone's GSM/HSDPA network using the original Verizon SIM. So I had phone and SMS service - no problems at all.
However, I couldn't get a data connection. It was connected to the HSDPA network (enhanced 3G). Under Settings-->More...-->Mobile networks there is the option ("Access Point Names") to choose an APN. However, none showed up. I tried to add an APN manually, but as soon as I set Vodafone's MCC and MNC, it refused to save the APN info.
Oddly enough, the correct APN settings are all on the phone in Carbon ROMs "apns-conf.xml" file, they're just not showing up.
I tried everything to remedy this, but no luck.
So, here are two questions to harvest your collective wisdom:
First, is there a solution to this? I like Carbon ROM, but I have to have global data access for my work. If I can get my d2vzw running Carbon connected to international GSM networks and APN for internet, then I'd really like to.
Second, does anyone know of a KitKat ROM that DOES do this properly on the d2vzw?
Thank you so much,
M
I haven't checked in on AOSP ROMs in a while, but last time I did, none of them could do this, you need to run a Touchwiz-based ROM. AOSP ROMs like Carbon use a reverse-engineered radio interface which is not quite as good as the Samsung one which is included with TW ROMs, and this is one problem with it.
The bottom line is that if you want all the hardware features of your phone to work, you have to use a TW-based ROM, because Samsung hasn't opened up the hardware.

Thanks, Jacquestrapp. That's helpful. Perhaps I will flash a TW-based ROM and then keep it as a nandroid backup for when I go travelling.
I have been using my Verizon S3 in the Philippines as an international phone for months with excellent service. I am able to connect to the GSM network and transmit data at H+ speeds. I am on CM 10.1.3 official on Baseband MF1 and have been able to successfully switch to GSM using the PhoneInfo app. To assign proper APNs, I use the HiAPN app. Be very careful with Phone info: I once broke my connectivity messing with the settings too much ("Select radio band") and had to revert to Twiz and turn on the GSM bands using the "secret menu" to turn those back on. If you have a Twiz backup, try dialing *#2263# to choose the bands your phone has access to (seems impossible on other ROMs) if you keep having problems.
The thread here (see post 106) is enormously helpful.
The info about Twiz and reverse engineering is useful -- I haven't been able to get reliable service beyond CM 10.1.3 (very low signal, inability to send SMS, but somehow can receive SMS and voice calls), so I have been sticking to 10.1.3, unfortunately. I want to upgrade to 4.4, but haven't been able to do it without breaking GSM functionality. Has anyone gotten GSM and data to work on a 4.4 ROM?

SOLVED: CM13.0 Nightly - No LTE

I have been using the CM13 nightlies for a few days now, and all I can say is wow - I love it! Phone is super fast, no more constant freezing and restarting (when I was on MOAR rom).
Only problem I've had so far is that I cannot connect to 4G LTE network. I have Boost Mobile and the default Boost APN seems to work fine, I can connect to 3G if I set the preferred network type to 3G, but when I set it to LTE I get neither 3G or 4G LTE. I do not know whether I should be using NV or RUIM/SIM in CDMA subscription (and couldn't figure it out through googling either) but it seems that I cannot change it to RUIM/SIM, no matter how many times I click the option it just stays on NV. Also, trying to open carrier settings just crashes settings "com.android.phone has stopped"
SIM status shows network state as disconnected when I have LTE or Global chosen as preferred network state.
I started out with the unofficial CM13 build, then from there upgraded to the 20160716 official nightly and then the 20160720 nightly.
I then flashed a stock 6.0 rom I found here and that let me connect to 4G with no problems whatsoever. While in this rom, I updated my PRL just in case. I then flashed back the 20160720 official nightly, and same thing. Still no dice.
TL;DR anyone have 4g working on boost with cm13
update:
found this flashable zip through google, flashed it in TWRP and LTE has worked like a charm ever since. :good:

Nexus 6p LTE broke after Rom update

The basic problem is as follows:
I've got a Nexus 6p on which I dirty flashed an 8.1 update (27 Feb 2018) of ABC Rom over an earlier 8.1 version (01 Jan 2018) of ABC Rom. After that, the issues began. At boot, I'd be on 3g and if I toggled airplane mode off and then on, I could get LTE for about 10 seconds. However, it would then drop back to 3g. It's probably worth noting that my cellular provider is Verizon.
I tried everything that I could think of and/or learn via the google. Such as:
Wipe system, data, cache, and dalvic
Revert to stock
Install different/older radio images
Changed SIM (although still Verizon)
... nothing worked. I've read about people manually configuring their APNs. However, I've got a Verizon SIM, so that option does not exist... as far as I can tell.
I've identified a crappy work-around that allows me to get a stable LTE connection as follows:
Open the Phone's Testing Settings by dialing: *#*#4636#*#*
Tap "Phone Information"
Scroll down and set the "VoLTE Provisioned" toggle to the "on" position.
Then, toggle airplane mode on and off.
However, the reason I've described this as crappy is that doing this results in my phone being unable to make or receive calls. Whenever I try to make a call with VoLTE Provisioned, the call fails and reports "Server Error". Consequently, I generally just deal with the phone working in 3G. On the up side, this work-around does demonstrate that LTE is still possible... with the right configuration. Although, it would be nice if I could get both LTE and phone working vs just one or the other.
I came across this post suggesting that a possible solution is to boot the phone up with a non-Verizon SIM, power it off, and then boot it up again with the Verizon SIM. I'm not sure how this fixes the issue. However, before I go buy a $30 SIM in the hopes that it will fix my issue, I figured I'd make this post and see if anyone has any other ideas how I might correct this.
Any ideas are appreciated.

So after a few months of using 3g, I got my hands on brand new AT&T SIM card. (For what it's worth, it hadn't even been provisioned yet). I went ahead and boot the phone with this new sim card. (I also reset the new APN settings to the default, although it probably didn't do much). After powering the phone down and putting the Verizon Sim back in, I've got my LTE back and all is good.

One Plus One Signal Error Problem

Hi there!! Well my one plus one had the problem of the continuous restart, and solve it, following the steps of the htcmania tutorial from reboot (i am new so xda doesnot allow me to post outside links)
Everything is perfect, everything works again. The problem: It does not detect the Telcel sim. I am from Mexico ,by the way.
In Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Preferred Network Type, select 3G (if I select LTE does not recognize anything), then:
Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators
when selecting this option I only see Iusacell 4G and Nextel 3G (the others companies in the country) and, very often from Telcel, and when I select it (with a Telcel sim inside ), it says: Registering in Telcel, then throws an error saying that it can not register the signal.
in:
Settings -> Mobile Networks -> APN, has Telcel Edge selected, and Telcel MMS configured already.
The rom that was installed doing the tutorial that I put is:
CyanogenMod version
11.0-XNPH30O
Android vesion
4.4.4
Kernel version
3.4.0-cyanogenmod-g7389215 build04 @ cyanogenmod # 1 Mon Aug 11 15:50:37 PDT 2014
What do I need to do to get the sim's signal? Can someone help me please?:crying:

Noticed sim problems on my one plus one 4G and 3G running an Oreo ROM and using FreedomPop. It works and can connect as normal, but call quality is pretty poor and probably unrelated. Curious if anyone has similar poor call quality? Sorli....

Curious what baselines have you tested. For instance, my One Plus One uses GSM and that means I can use anyone's SIM card and from other providers to see if my problem is SIM specific (faulty sim card, sim slot failure, or installed upside down).
Do you have friends who Sims work that you can install in your phone and test your phone hardware and software? Thankfully, I have wife and can easily swap SIM cards and test my configuration quickly. Worth seeing what you get and this should help baseline your configuration.
Side note, found my cell problems and lack of signal related specifically to the building (metal roof, concrete walls) and I'm actually shocked how different phones using same service get such different call quality. I'm not talking bout huge differences in smartphones and one phablet having larger antennas compared to another. All are about the same and performance simply fluctuates depending on location. Nothing knew here and I personally can't use my smartphone in buildings unless they're using Verizon or similar services.
Sorry for the long reply, but maybe it will help you resolve your problem! Sorli...

If you are on kitkat 4.4, try updating to a nougat rom, this is really stable and updated:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...m-kernel-unofficial-lineageos-14-1-3-t3626403
BUT ATTENTION: this rom doesn't come with an updated modem, so also flash a newer modem firmware :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/firmware-modem-oneplus-one-lollipop-t3300907
DI.3.0.c6-00241 - latest "stable" modem, try this first
4.0.1.c7-00011.zip - alpha modem, someone says it's better, others says that it causes problem, you have to try it yourself.
Hope this will fix your issue!

HTC U11, Dual Sim, unlocked, Mobile data is not working in T-Mobile, ATT networks.

Hi.
I have HTC U11, Dual Sim, the International version that I bought from China.
After that, I have changed the CID for it on the Taiwan version.
Currently, it is:
HTC_U-3u
Android 9
Software number 3.22.709.2
Rooted, not custom rom.
I have been used it with several MVNOs (Mint, Hello mobile) that are working on T-Mobile network for the last 1.5 years. Currently, I use Hello mobile.
All worked fine (4g, voice, text, data) until last week.
From the last week, Mobile data is not working anymore. It always shows as "Disabled" when I try to enable it, and no icon in the status bar. Meanwhile, voice and text are working fine.
I didn't do any system updates or new soft installation on my phone.
I tried to reset network data, reboot, checked with support (no issues with my number), checked APN with t-mobile recommended, changed mode on 3g, 2g, and without success, mobile data is not working.
I tried to put my sim card in another phone that I bought here in the US and the mobile data is working fine there, I see the LTE icon, and so on.
Also, I checked my phone with a sim card from ATT, and the same issue, voice, and text are ok and no mobile data.
The Signal Spy app shows me that the phone connected to Band 4 (1700). I checked T-Mobile and ATT websites and see that this Band in the list of supported 4g bands.
Also, I checked the compatibility by IMEI on websites and it showed me that only WiFI-Calling and VolTa will not work on my phone, but common 4g data is supported.
So seems all should be work fine but it is not. I found some posts on Reddit that T-Mobile wanted to change some Bands from 4g to 5g, but I don't know if it is the root of my issue.
Does anyone have this issue with this phone in the US on T-Mobile?
I don't know what it was but today Mobile Data started to work, the whole past week I had no mobile data connection.
