What happens if I re-install open-gapps again with different configuration file? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am using LineaseOS 15.1 with OpenGApps full. I found it installed too many unnecessary packages. But I do not want to re-install the whole system again. I wonder if I can flash the same open-gapps package with a new .gapps-config that exclude packages I do not need. Would it automatically remove those apps from my system even if I have updated those apps?
Say, I don't need Chrome. But it is installed as a system app, so I cannot remove it, and I have updated it in the Play Store. If I flash the open-gapps package with a new configuration file to exclude Chrome, what will happen to the Chrome installed on my phone?
Re-install the whole system is too time-consuming, so I hope someone has experience could help me out.
Thanks,
D.

Flashing a different version of gapps will not remove any apps.

Aroma will give you more customization options then just flashing the whole Google Apps package (Say you didn't want Gmail in AROMA you could choose not to install gmail) but other then custimization, there is not difference between using AROMA and just flashing the whole Google apps package. The latest Google apps package for 4.2.2 is essentially just the Google framework service, the Play Store, and other Google services that can't be downloaded directly form the Play Store. The advantage to using the Play Store to installing apps like Youtube, Gmail and others is that the Play Store will automatically update the apps for you. There is no need to convert the apps like Youtube, Gmail, and other Google apps like that to system apps using Titanium Backup. The ones that need to be system apps to function properly will automatically be converted to system apps when you use AROMA or flash the Google Apps Package.
Fair question. As far as I know, the AROMA options are for convenience. You could for example install Titanium without needing data to connect to Google Play. But they both do the same thing.
Using Titanium to convert apps to system apps is a viable method. But I'd only recommend doing so if it's necessary. Installing in /system would save apps (like Cerberus anti theft) from being wiped in a /data factory reset. However, you may have unpredictable results if you start installing apps in there willy-nilly.
Hope this info helps. GL

[Exp] Flashed Open Gapps (pico) on stock rom and...

So basically what I have done is I simply flashed open gapps pico package around 40mb in size from TWRP on stock rom 5.1 of Moto g3.
The results are as you can guess all the google apps that came preinstalled in the device were removed now you can see only core apps needed for playstore functionality. It removed Google app and Google now launcher too so before flashing you should install any third party launcher and integrate it in system too(optional).
It improved performance and battery life a bit and let me get rid of unwanted Google apps and the needed apps I have downloaded them from playstore.
So try it take a backup before hand if you wanna revert back(why will you do that.)
Installation
The Google Applications packages should be installed via recovery. Exact steps vary, but the general process is the same as that used to install CyanogenMod, or any other flashable zip.

So just let me and other members know your experience by quick reply.

Cannot flash OpenGapps

I rebranded my phone to AL10(chinese) which came pre-installed with only three Google apps: Google Play Services, Google Account Manager, Google Services Framework. I installed Play Store manually through an apk. But I'm getting frequent crashes, can't use Google Payment etc. etc.
So, I thought about flashing clean Gapps which might solve these problems and save me from installing the whole bunch of Google Apps. But it gives me error everytime I try to do that:
I thought the size might be the issue so I downloaded the nano version but it gave me the same error.
You need to repair your system partition. You can try that in twrp. Go to wipe. Advanced wipe. System partition. Resize/change file system. Resize file system. SHOULD fix it

Do NOT flash OpenGapps on Stock ROM.
Install Play Store through the in built Huawei Market and not through any external APK.

Won't my entire ROM get wiped out that way?

Shouldn't. But since hack has installed the beta already, you should go with his advice instead just in case.

How to delete a system file without root

i installed an apk app mod on my Samsung galaxy note 10+. the apk is an older version of the app but when i went to uninstall the app as usual to install the latest release off google play instead of downloading and installing it just installed the previous apk installed from google which i havent seen before. i have tried clearing the data and using app cleaners such as sd maid but its still installing the unofficial version. i also tried to install a newer version of the app from an apk off google and it wont install at all. i believe that after uninstalling the app that some of the files have not been deleted and google recognises these as the correct app files. using sd maid i traced to this path:
/data/app/~~HQ5E7AhU5J2CuBMCGbfjTg==/com.snapchat.android-PWYp8D9k00ttRuj98fIkTA==
im pretty sure this is what needs deleting to get google to download the official version but due to samsungs security rules i cant delete it. i dont want to root or factory reset my phone
any help is much appreciated
That's Snap Chat, is that installed or was it part of the Google app?
Try clearing the system cache from the boot menu.
System apps and systen privileged apps including their daa can only get deleted by ROOT, only deleting their related data can get achieved by a FR.
