Jagged letters in certain zoom levels - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hi,
I am experiencing problems with fonds mainly in Google Chrome but also other apps. In certain zoom levels, the edges of the letters appear jagged. I already tried different display settings such as text size, general size, resolutions. No change. Is anyone else having that issue? It's not an issue in every app. Take a look at the Screenshot I attached and zoom it bigger to see the jagged edges.

My only suggestions would be to either make sure your resolution is set to the max (1440p) inside the display setting. And to possibly try another font and see if that solves the problem. I thought Samsung Android had a couple of fonts to choose from.

I tried both. No change. Since nobody else is facing this issue, maybe it will be solved when I flash oreo and rebuild my phone from scratch.

Have you changed any settings in developer options?

I changed display density in tasker, which effects the dev option "smallest width". But shouldnt this switch back to a default value when i change the display zoom level in the display settings to default? Can you tell me what your resolution is, and what value is shown under smallest width in dev options?

I'm at 1440p and my minimum width is at 360p, I've not changed any dev values so these should be default.
I think the dev options are pretty independent of other settings, so even if you changed other display settings I'd expect any dev display options to remain. But that's only conjecture.

thanks, with 360 its working. i thought that value would be reset when you change display zoom in the normal settings. but obviously not. furthermore it seems that the font does only support certain densities. i personally prefer 384 dp as minimum width. 360 looks a bit huge to me.
Also if you select small and hughe in display zoom settings, the font jets jagged allthough those are predefined samsung settings! Does onyone know if there is a common denominator that has to be respected?
Edit: Its still not gone. In certain Zoom levels in Chrome, the font is still slightly jagged. Any other suggestions?

Auto Brightness

Is there an app or a hack that lets you set the levels for auto brightness? My phone is never bright enough with auto brightness enabled. I still want it to adjust based on the ambient light, but I want the whole scale a little on the brighter side. I thought I saw something like this for the Vibrant but can't find any info now about it.Any ideas?
Thanks!
look for toggle style widgets, I use power control plus and it has a feature for me to set 4 different brightness settings. there are a ton out there, i recommend to google it first or just go to the market on your computer first.

Thanks! I am familiar with the widgets that allow you to manually control the screen brightness, what I was hoping to find is a way to edit the already existing "Auto Brightness" feature to scale up the overall brightness. It does a good job getting brighter when there is more ambient light but overall it is just too dim all the time. I was pretty sure there was something out there for the Vibrant that did this, I just cant find it for the GS4G.
Hmmm..

I see, I misunderstood your question. That would be great to change the overall brightness just like you can change the density. ill investigate.

Can you change the Display ppi on here?

I remember reading on here that you can change the PPI to 402 on here but I can't remember where I read it. Does anyone know if this is actually possible?
Settings\More Settings\Developer Options. Scroll to Drawing\Minimum Width setting. Remember the default setting before you make changes. I think it's 360DPI. Watch the beginning of this youtube video on how to enable Developer Options if you can't access those settings.

guys, it's not that hard to do developer mode....
To enable "Developer Mode" on Vivo NEX S
Settings>More Settings>About Phone>Tap on "Software Version" 7 times then go to the previous screen. "Developer Options" is now added at the very bottom.
Notes
1. You do not need to turn on "Developer Options" switch to make adjustments to "minimum width" settings in the Drawing section.
2. This does not change the actual PPI of the screen (obviously), only sets DPI scaling, or the ability to adjust the size of on-screen content. Decreasing the value will give you larger icons and make text easier to read while increasing it will make on-screen elements smaller and fit more content on the screen.
ill have to cross post this in the other thread for clarification. apparently some are going through a lot of steps like downloading apps or having to connect to computer when it's as easy as tapping the screen a few times....

Question True white?

My One Plus 9's screen's whites (e.g., on a white background web page) seem to be actually a bit off-white, like a very, very light gray. I took screenshots to make sure that #FFFFFF was being displayed.
I've tried playing with all the stock display settings but couldn't fix it. (I can make the very, very light gray look colder with the stock settings, but I can't make it be just white.)
I can fix it by pushing the white point to something around +0.10 with my ColorChanger app's custom mode option (root required), so I know the hardware can handle a whiter/brighter white, but I would like to be able to just set it with the system settings rather than having to make ColorChanger start on boot.
What display settings do you use in the advanced section under screen calibration?
Loose the color changer app. It can't begin to dial in the display. You can't do this by eye.
This smartphone should have excellent color rendering and white point. It's one of the best.
Make sure it's not a setting issue. Turn off Developer options for now and recheck all display and accessibility settings.
Either it's a software, firmware or hardware issue. If not running on it's stock rom start there. If already running stock, factory reset and be careful what apps you install.
-Or- find the app that caused it (preferred).
Book reading apps can alter white point settings permanently by altering hidden user settings. Uninstalling them sometimes doesn't undo the changes made by a poorly written app. Google Reader (I think it was that one) did this to me on my Note 10+. Had to reinstall it, change the setting in it, then uninstall the junk app once and for all... or factory reset
You get the idea.
Hmm. I thought I had tried all the advanced settings, but now I see that I can pretty much the same nice very bright white (and more neutral grays) by using the wide gamut settings as with my Color Changer. Don't know why I missed that. Should save a bit of battery life.

Question DPI

Has anyone used a root app or xposed module to change the DPI? Did you find anything that works well?
I was thinking we could change the DPI to solve the problem of gboard not being split when unfolded, but then I realized that might not work when the phone is folded.
I changed dpi without root in developer settings. Everything runs flawless. GBoard splits automatically in landscape mode when unfolded

so you are saying as soon as you unfold the phone gboard splits? right now the only way to get it to split is to onfold and rotate
I have mine already set this way in dev settings as well at 421. will try 492 and see if there is any difference
EDIT - just changed. definitely no difference in gboard unless you rotate which is how it has always been when unfolded. what I did realize though is that you can set the DPI in dev settings for folded and unfolded it seems. playing around with it though I still have not found a value that auto splits the keyboard when unfolded in portrait state
Microsoft Swiftkey has the toggle to turn on split mode and that is fine for unfolded portrait and landscape but unfortunately it then stays in split mode on the folded screen making it unusable in that state.

yep, would be perfect if it wasn't split in unfolded screen
Also if you open the screen and set the DPI for the big screen I just plus 100 dpi on what it is as default its perfect. So there are 2 DPI settings one with screen folded and the other with screen unfolded
What is the default DPI for cover screen? I changed mine by mistake thinking it would change both screen. Then I found out they have different DPI for each display.
Should be 411dpi

Much appreciated!
Can someone confirm stock dpi with screen folded cause i changed it and now my screen is smaller than before.
Go to
Settings > additional settings> accessibility> vision >
Change display size to s or m it will set to default dpi size

Question Device restarts in Tablet mode

For some reason whenever I reboot my device it loads in tablet mode which is really annoying. My widgets all get removed and the display size is very small, along with other home screen changes. Once I change the display size setting the phone recognizes it is not a tablet and goes into phone mode. Does anyone know why this could happen? Phone is rooted with safetynet fix. Wondering if it might be safety net fix since it changes the build.prop settings. However I would have expected others to experience the same issue.
go into dev options and look for a value called smallest width. This stock is set to 411 dp. If yours shows that value, set the display size to the smallest possible, then go back into dev ops and change smallest width to 411 dp again, then go back to screen and font size and set those to largest. mess round with those till ya find what you want.
Cheers Mate!

Thanks for the reply. Mine is set to 485 because I set the display settings to smallest. When I change to 411 it just changes the display setting to default option. When I change back to smallest display option it changes the smallest width back to 485. Not sure how this changes the tablet mode setting when I restart phone.
