Hi folks, I've tried a couple of apps like CCleaner, All in One toolbox, SD Maid, App Ops, My Android Tools, Greenify, etc. I kind of like All in One toolbox (AIO) for boosting memory, disabling auto startups but I don't like the fact that it's always sitting as a background process. App Ops is very useful but disabling auto startups doesn't seem to sync with AIO toolbox (disabled in AIO but doesn't show up as disabled in App Ops).
I've always come to XDA for all the great apps the devs here have provided and the great community. In my opinion, here's the come to place whenever I look for some tools. I've done some searches and a ton of stuff turned up so I'm wondering if there's a tool like AIO but doesn't behave like a memory hog and not have tons of wake locks that I have to disable in order for it to work.
I'll also welcome any tips on maintaining a lean OS (currently on Lineage 14.1) with regards to what essential apps I should have on my cellphone; any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I use these 2 apps but "All in one toolbox" have a tendency to stay in the background even with Greenify.

I'm using Greenify in privileged mod and it fully hibernates AIOT.

I also did that but every-time I look under 'development tools' -> 'Running services' AIOT is always running.

I think it's because I've enabled AIOT service in Accessibility.

hi, I have been reviewing various bootup type apps (autorun manager, startup manager [no ICS support?], etc) to try to find one that just prevents an app from loading (until i need it and start it manually of course) as opposed to killing the app when it tries to load during boot (which, i seems to be what many of these autorun kinda apps do).
So i was wondering if there is an app that prevents selected apps from starting at bootup. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Look up vault apk root. In google. It freezes apps fully. Its not in the play store. And doesn't work on ics

Check out System tuner in the play store. I have the paid pro version and it allows me to disable apps on startup, not sure if its in the free version. But if you can, buy it, it has tons of options and is a fantastic app.

I use autorun manager, romtoolbox by jrummy has it too as does Gemini app manager
Try to use ES File Manager. It's free and lots of functionality.
Agree with imppy, has worked a treat for me. Requires root.

Control apps that run on start-up by enabling or disabling them. Enable or disable any broadcast receiver for any app.
So, you can disable an app's startup at boot and then enable it whenever you want. Persistent across reboots.
Not like freezing, unfreezing, and then having to start the app. And then repeating before each reboot.
Autostarts looked good enough for me to buy it, question to those of you using it; How much can you disable? Has there been any crashes or issues that seem tied to this? If i disabled all of the autostarts would my phone still be fine or would it seriously mess with things

Some apps are mantatory for system's good health, so be carefull what you are disabling.
In general, you can disable from autostart, every non system application...
Most apps I tried simply disable the "on boot completed" trigger, but that's not always enough.
Many apps bypass the boot trigger by autostarting on other events which happen when you boot your phone, like activating data or WiFi, mounting your SD card, etc. Some apps autorun "on time tick," which happens every minute.
Gemini App Manager has more autostart toggles than anything else I tried. ROM Toolbox Lite is a good runner-up.
Everyone now and then I'll check to see what apps are running and I'll see that flickr is running. I've disabled all the bloatware I can, including flickr, so why would this run sometimes?

If you freeze the apps with Titanium Backup for example it won't run anymore. TB is a real battery safer.
Isn't disabling an app supposed to keep it from running? What else would disabling do?
I'm not rooted, so I can't use titanium.
install Advanced task killer free from play store;
you'll be able to setup autokill for (background) apps at desired intervals;
it is gonna make a difference in battery and speed

It just hides it from the app drawer. If there's an intent that starts it up, it will start.
Since updating from 6.0.1 to 7.0 on my Nexus 6P I have realized that the task manager I used no longer works. I tried many other popular and non popular task manager apps on Nougat and none of them work. They all display something like "no running apps to display."
So obviously it seems in 7.0 Google updated whatever command is needed for an app to pull the running apps from the system, and no one has updated their task manager app to work with 7.0. I was pretty shocked that in the forums no topic with "task manager" was created with in the past 6 months to talk about this.
So are others people experiencing this with task managers on Nougat? If so, have you found any task manager app that works with Nougat?
Edit: sorry if this the wrong forum to post this, but I figured it applied here since it seem to be related to new API causing these types of apps to not work. Feel free to move it if this topic fits better somewhere else. Thanks!

Simple! Because ever since Android 5.0 the task manager only shows the average RAM usage. It does not currently show what's running in real time. Only shows the past 3 hour, 6 hour, 12 hour, or 1 day average. It shows apps that are not even running at that very second. That information can be helpful some but not for everything.
In Android 4.4 and earlier it used to show real time what apps were running. Just like on Windows computers task manager shows real time what's running. If an app starts running, it appears on the list. if an app stops running, it disappears from the list. This is helpful for finding a rogue app on your battery, or a rogue app slowing down your phone using a Ton of RAM. It is not as easy identifying a rogue app with averages. Especially if it's an app that's not running all the time in the back ground.

Does it also kill apps automatically? I dont want services running after i close the app, and i dont want to go to running services to do it everytime... Android should have that option lets call it dont allow background running or while screen off...

It won't kill apps automatically you can use Greenify for that or you can do it manually every time after you open the app again.
There are two ways
1. Go to app info and force stop it. (recommended)
2. Go to running services and stop it from there.
Once you open the app again all service will be restarted. The first option is easy and straight forward

I know man i was just trying to make a point about still needing task killers, look what permissions greenify needs to do that now: usage access, draw over apps, accessibility permission... Horrific permisions... Android even asked for my fingerprint when giving it accessibility permission and said it needs it cause of encryption...
If that was native in Android (no background running option per app) that would be great.
Might even partially fix poor ram managment in Android...

For ram usage use running services in developer options.
I totally agree with you, moving on to a newer system broke a lot of apps...

Hi, updating here to -1. Agree with posters above, built in is a pita to use.
My old task killer was click app, click kill, job done :good:
Also really useful to quickly see what was running right now and those naughty apps that restarted themselves
Someone must have a decent easy task killer for rooted Nougat
Updating again: Advanced Task Manager free is working just not the pro version I paid for. Looks like they care more about the ads than their paying users. Ok for me anyway. Rooted phones don't have ads
In Android 7.0 Google once again has made undocumented changes and has significantly restricted access to the proc file system. This means that since this new API level it is not possible anymore to retrieve processes info. Task Managers running on devices with Android 7.0 will only show total CPU usage, their own CPU usage and memory usage, but not CPU usage for other processes. Running the app on a rooted device does not make difference. More info on File system changes in Android Nougat - Stack Overflow. Star this Android issue to push Google to implement an alternative API.

Maybe a CPU/RAM monitor that should work in Nougat

Hey guys, is there any efficient app which really closes any app - or avoid them to boot during the startup of the smartphone?
For example, Booking.com or Instagram — I absolutely don't need any notifications from them, and I want to keep those apps absolutely closed. Even the native "restricted background activity" on Android 12 seems not to be working, nor Servicely / Naptime / Greenify (I have root).
Any other suggestions?

So basically a startup manager. That would be pretty nifty.
Best I can suggest is disable notifications on those apps; with notifications disabled, I think Android system doesn't allow the processes to keep running. I could be wrong.
There's also some Developer Options that help reduce what you have running at any given time, although they're more of a global policy and not app specific.

I mean, there's dozens of task managers out there, but honestly they're not really worth the trouble and don't do anything significant for battery life. With the exception of Magisk and a systemless ad blocker, I'm pretty much bone stock on my Pixel 5 with no management apps whatsoever, and I could probably go 2 days on standby.
