heyho,
im using latest malysk rk3188 11.5 with microG.
Im still having memory limitations (mostly 200mb free)
im using permanently:

blitzer.de app
fuel price search
car launcher
Im currently testing some task-killer apps with automatic cronjob to kill all background apps, but none of them works as expectet.
some one knows a app whos running in background an kills specified apps?
try ice box.
hmm, that app sounds like an feature from titanium.
im already have some frozen apps.
im looking for a solution to prevent android being slow while my apps are running.

I recently upgraded my ATT Captivate to 2.2. I now have a problem with apps starting up on there own even though I've going into apps management and have killed them. I even have app killer and its not automatically killing the apps. These aren't the att apps, these are apps that I've installed.
How can I prevent apps from starting back up. Its killing my battery life.
Thanks

Get os monitor and check how much mem they use. If u see one that is always over 20%, uninstall it.
Also u can stop ur running services.

What BW said. Don't worry about them in there unless you find one using up too much battery/resources. They won't drain your battery unless it's a bad app.

I have also stopped the services for the apps that are restarting, and they keep coming back like bad mexican food.

You could try unistalling your task killer and getting Advanced Task Killer (it's the one I personnaly use). Now killing a app won't stop it from restarting, you usually fix that in your running services. Also make sure that these apps arent widgets - in that case they will always restart

Actually, its Advanced Task Killer that I have installed. Yes, I totally understand apps vs. services. I'm stopping the services for the apps that have restarted, yet they continue to restart after the service has been killed. These apps are definitely not widgets.

Umm, may I ask what are these apps?
The only app that takes couple tries for me to stop if the facebook one. Also, some app are made to constinusly refresh and get info from the internet. If that's the case with your apps, block their internet connection or change their settings to have it refresh manually.
Also, you can tell some apps not to start on boot up - that might temporaly fix your problem.

Apps like Google Maps, ColorNote, Daily Briefing and others. Its very random what apps decide to start.

I duno about colornote but as for the others, they automaticly refresh using the internet and so like I said in my other post, you have to set it so the either can't access the internet (might as well unistall them in that case) or set their refresh to manual so it only refreshes when you "tap" on them.
Google maps refreshes for your location. That one will be a pain especially if you have the gps on.
If you get over a day of battery life with moderate usage and that you like these app, then I'd say to just live with it. If it's not the case, I suggest getting rid of them but if OS Monitor doesn't show them using your mem/battery, then they don't actually do/change much.

once on the app, hit your menu button (bottom left one ) and you should have a setting option - each app will be different but it mostly comes to the same thing. Also if you don't have any menu option, there should be a (i) kind of image/icon somewhere in the main app page but these are rare. Most app will have their setting menu.
Thanks. I'll try it and see what happens.
nice conversation, very informative. thanks guys

Hi,
I occassionally kill an app to free up resources via the built in HTC task manager. But, i also noticed that under the manage apps menu, when you click on an app, some of them allow you to press force stop if they are running.
I am confused though, becaue for example i never use slacker or google maps, yet these 2 apps give me the option to force stop. yet, some apps i use frequently do not have the force stop option (its greyed out).
Thanks
Freeze or remove the apps that you don't use, as long as they're not system apps. Check and be sure you know what it does before removing. Task manager apps are not really needed for Android 2.2+. I use the one in the pull down on occasions when I know my phone will be on stand-by for a while so nothing is running in the bg. You should be good. TiB is good for removing and freezing apps, but if you don't wanna pay, you can always disable them via adb.

Don't kill apps to free up memory. Android will relocate the memory for you if necessary.
The only time I use the task manager is as a quick way to restart an app.

Hi, what is the objection of killing apps via Task Manager in Sensation? I am coming from Windows Mobile and therefore have used to kill apps after closing them.

Basically anything Android 2.2+ handles applications. Closes them after the appropriate period of time. Ends all processes related to the app unless it had a background service that runs.
Task killer abruptly shuts down the app and doesn't let the Android OS do the job. Earlier on 1.5/1.6 days it was definitely needed because Android didn't handle it as well.
If you have to force stop or task kill make sure your task killer isn't set to auto kill. Also I do kill apps occasionally via Force Stop when the app isn't working. Usually facebook app does this at times or words with friends.

It isn't really necessary to "free up resources" in Android. Apps that have been dormant for some time or are unnecessary are closed automatically when memory is required. Often apps that are force closed will simply be reopened by the system, which actually has a negative impact on battery life.

Guys, how to automatically turn off the running application?
I feel very upset because my application like Maps, Market, Gmail, etc, always automatically running without my permission.
Because of that, i always manually kill that apps with Task Killer. But, not much later, it was running again!!!! Please help me guys, How to automatically turn off the apps? and never running again without my permission
u dont have to close those apps...doing so would result in wasted battery life as the app/process would start again on its own...
using task killers is NOT AT ALL advisable on android 2.2+, because android has ram management built in...
kill (better if u uninstall) only rogue apps, like i had this wallpaper app which used to constantly start by itself, and i was better off unistalling it....rather than killing it every time it started...
and its not advisable to uninstall google apps like gmail and maps, and these will keep running passively in the background...and they are harmless...so no reason to worry about them....
try using titanium backup...freeze the apps you dont want to run(works only on titanium backup premium...
i think this might help

i didnt get you properly....ram performance on android (based on linux) is different than what it is on windows...
here ram in use is not neccessarily bad, because it manages ram differently....if any app actively requires ram, then android closes passive apps itself.....
and if ur phone feels laggy, then its because an app/process is actively using cpu, rather than ram...if you understand what i mean....
Everyone now and then I'll check to see what apps are running and I'll see that flickr is running. I've disabled all the bloatware I can, including flickr, so why would this run sometimes?

If you freeze the apps with Titanium Backup for example it won't run anymore. TB is a real battery safer.
Isn't disabling an app supposed to keep it from running? What else would disabling do?
I'm not rooted, so I can't use titanium.
install Advanced task killer free from play store;
you'll be able to setup autokill for (background) apps at desired intervals;
it is gonna make a difference in battery and speed

It just hides it from the app drawer. If there's an intent that starts it up, it will start.
Hey guys, is there any efficient app which really closes any app - or avoid them to boot during the startup of the smartphone?
For example, Booking.com or Instagram — I absolutely don't need any notifications from them, and I want to keep those apps absolutely closed. Even the native "restricted background activity" on Android 12 seems not to be working, nor Servicely / Naptime / Greenify (I have root).
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

So basically a startup manager. That would be pretty nifty.
Best I can suggest is disable notifications on those apps; with notifications disabled, I think Android system doesn't allow the processes to keep running. I could be wrong.
There's also some Developer Options that help reduce what you have running at any given time, although they're more of a global policy and not app specific.

Yep — I've disabled the notifications already of Instagram, but still appears to be having some background activity.

I mean, there's dozens of task managers out there, but honestly they're not really worth the trouble and don't do anything significant for battery life. With the exception of Magisk and a systemless ad blocker, I'm pretty much bone stock on my Pixel 5 with no management apps whatsoever, and I could probably go 2 days on standby.
