The new m8 just got root, and I'd like to see if anyone could fix the issue i have with the hardware key placement. Specifically, the position of the power button annoys me quite a bit. On the old One it was at least accessible through your index finger, but the m8 must have been designed by lefties!
I'm looking for a module that would swap the function of the power key with the vol+ key to see if that will fix my little hangup with this phone. No pun intended.
Thanks!

I'm surprised this isn't a bigger complaint amongst m8 users. Well, if anyone finds anything, please let me know! Thanks!

I'm also not a fan of the power button being switched. At least we can double tap the screen to unlock. Cuts down the usage a bit.

Agreed, but it doesn't help when wanting to lock it quickly with one hand after the phone has already been unlocked. I'm more interested in that function than waking it. But glad to see I'm not alone in this.

I use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock in tandem with Nova Launcher and just assign a gesture to it which in turn will turn the screen off and lock. Works great.
I just use gmd gesture control to do a three finger downward swipe to shut the device off.

For my purposes, I'm trying to find a one-handed solution. So 3 fingers is no help when the phone is in-hand. But thanks for sharing your idea!

What I did was use gravitybox > navigation key actions and then set back key long press to go to sleep. Works perfect but I am left handed so you might want a different key.

This is how I do it. Just a single finger swipe upwards shuts my screen off, then a double tap turns it back on. Works great for me!
Now if only someone could figure out how to get double tap (to wake) working in landscape mode.
Hey guys -- I just posted a fresh thread for this, but since I assume you all have weaksauce+xposed working...
After my soft-reboot to install xposed, wifi would not turn on. Did anyone else have anything similar happen?
I did weaksauce, phone off/on, install xposed, full reboot (accidentally), enable xposed, soft reboot, then no wifi when the phone came back up.
Any ideas?
Right now, the soft keys on the Z3 do 'Back', 'Home' and 'Recent apps'. With my previous phone being a Galaxy S2, this is a major annoyance for me. I want my beloved menu button back . So my question is: can I remap the 'Recent apps' button to instead show the menu? I've tried some solutions like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818499, but this doesn't seem to allow customization of the soft keys I want to change. Is there anything out there that lets me do this, preferably without directly modifying the layout file? I have root so that's not an issue.
Thanks in advance

there s option for complete customization of soft-keys.

Except no roms are ready for xperia Z3 yet. Also might want to try Carbon Rom if you really liked the navigation button customization. They do a better job than CM, and have more options.

Yeah, that's kind of the issue for now: the lack of ROMs. Could this be done through Xposed or something similar was well?

(i don know about that module a lot)
Root and xposed will work
There is a module for remapping keys and one for adding a permanent menu key

Just give it some time. Lollipop and Xperia Z3 hit the shelves around the same time, but DEVs are more interested in getting their ROMs working based on lollipop, instead of getting a custom rom based on an old OS working for a new phone.

coming from a Note1 i have exactly the same question. sounds like we just wait for Lollipop and learn to love back-key on the left side (perhaps that's more intuitive anyway). i still wish there was a way to generate a menu-keypress though, like a combo? a long press?
i often feel like theres a menu there, but no way to see it. is it always true that the 3 vertical dots will appear somewhere (sometimes top, sometimes bottom. grrr!) in this menu-key-less interface?
First thing I did after root... Install Xposed framework then download/install the GravityBox(KK) module. In the GravityBox settings, go to Navigation Bar Tweaks. Enable the master switch, then check the box to "always show menu key".
This will enable your menu key and still keep your recent apps key. You can also swap the recent and back button (if your used to that type of layout). And if you want even more then you can do like I do...
(in the Navigation Key Actions menu, not in Navigation Bar Tweaks)
*shrink the nav bar to 75% height
*long press back to close foreground app
*long press home to enable/disabled screen rotation
*double tap home to show a custom app launcher menu (put your fav apps n here)
*double tap back to switch to last open app
*long press menu to enable/disable flashlight
(this is just my setup, each keys long press and double-tap have multiple options to choose from)
With gravity box you can do a whole lot. You can change your battery icon to a different one but be sure to go into your phone "settings>personalization>status bar icons" and uncheck battery. If not, then when you restart you will have 2 battery icons (stock & gbox battery) in your status bar. Also, you can turn your status bar into a brighteness control, which comes in very handy, or enable song skipping by long pressing the volume keys (when the screen is off).
Just check everything out in gravity box, it has soo much to offer.

I just did this with my Xperia Z3. Get root (note there's locked bl root available). Then install xposed framework. Then get Xperia / AOSP NavBar module from Xposed Installer.
On my previous phones and through reading around unpinning a screen required the user to hold both the recents button AND the back button. Does anyone know why the S6 and touchwiz only require you to hold to recents button? My toddlers use my phone for apps and kids youtube but they are constantly unpinning the screen cause of their little hands and they way they hold the phone with their thumb right on the recents button.
With the old M8 ir required both buttons to be held and they never unlocked it on their own by accident.
Anyone know why touchwiz has to be different and if there is a way to enable BOTH buttons to be used to unlock?
Not rooted and fully stock but use tasker. Perhaps there is something I could use with that if anyone has an idea.
Thanks.

i have to push recents and back buttons to un pin an app with my galaxy s6, idk maybe you have a fake galaxy s6.
maybe you are doing that in the wrong way.
Nope it's a phone direct from my carriers store so it's not a fake.
Also as you can see in the screen shot the instructions say you just need to hold the recent button.
Did you actually check yours? Maybe you are mistaken that you have to use two buttons on your S6.
Can anyone confirm for me what the instructions are exactly on their phone why trying to pin? Lots of views on this thread but no one is chiming in on how their phone works.
Mine says to hold recent button only too. I'm on 5.1.1 and never checked on 5.0.2 so I don't know if Samsung changed it.
What I've done is turn on the 'Use screen lock type to unpin' option so it requires my fingerprint after holding recents.

Hi thanks for helping out. I'm on 5.0.2.
I like your suggestion but I only use swipe lock so unfortunately I can't do that.
Maybe I'll see if I can get tasker to do something for me.
Cheers.

Mine says recent and back together. I tested it myself and recent alone does nothing but recent and back puts the phone back to normal. I'm on T-Mobile running the latest update 5/1.1

When I had my LG G2 some time ago, I was able to customize the buttons on my dock. I was able to have a back, home, sadly no multitask button, but there was an option to have a button that would drop the notification bar.
I've been looking for an app, or solution since the Z5 is on the big side. I went through all the phones settings, but couldn't find the option. Anyone know of an app that may offer this functionality? I'm searching, but haven't found anything. I did find an app, but I'd rather a button added to my button dock that's always available.
Thanks
you would need root to do so.
Damn, is there any non root solution? Don't want to void warranty less than a week after buying it lol

you can install another launcher like nova launcher. There you can do everything. E.g. expand notification bar on swipe down or create shortcuts to open the bar...

Awesome, thanks for this. I already use nova launcher so looked through the settings. The best option I found was pressing the home button while already on the home screen and it'll drop the notification bar. Not exactly what I want, but gets the job done. The ideal solution would be to have a fourth, dedicated button beside the multitasking button that dropped the notification bar without having to be on the home screen. Just like the keyboard icon in the bottom right when a keyboard is open.
The G2 did this perfectly with the built in options. Wish about offered this on the stock Rom. Thanks for the tip GZA, at least I can do this from the home screen now.

Er, that's how Android has worked since at least Jellybean 4.1 (first Android version I ever had). Start with your finger just above the top of the screen and swipe down.

In Nova settings you find gestures and input. There is swipe down option. You can add expand notification there... But this feature could be in paid version only. Not sure...

Hi! How to take a Three-finger Screenshot? Maybe there is some kind of module for Magisk?
Why not power + volume down? To use three fingers you'll still need to use two hands.
Anyways, sorry. I don't know of a module for that.
EDIT: Another option is to set quick tap for that.
Settings > gestures > quick tap > screenshot, then tap the back of your phone twice

AOSP Mods has a feature to take a screenshot with 2 fingers.
Navigation Bar/Gesture Navigation/Two-Finger swipe-up action. Select screen shot
Why not just bring up recent apps by swiping up? When you do that there is a screen shot button that you can press. It also makes it easy to scroll through recent apps that are open and you can take a screenshot of any of them.
