URGENT - NEED Kogan Agora 6 Plus Stock ROM - or a way to fix a softbrick. - General Questions and Answers

URGENT! I accidentally typed:
fastboot flash boot (recovery.img)
instead of:
flashboot flash recovery (recovery.img)
Help!

quick
I need a response

getting impatient now...

Still need a response. And if you are reading this, I may just need a system folder. But if it is included in the rom, then I'll have that.

Angry
for god's sake, this forum is dead. I can't rely on support because they are charging me, and no one on here is helpful nor willing to help out. No one hs even replied to this in ages and I am getting very impatient. XDA is dying.

Sorry to hear that no one replied to you.
Unfortunately, the rom development of the Kogan Agora 6 plus is all but dead. There is just not enough backing or public interest of custom ROMs in this device. I would suggest a to replace your device, this device is getting old anyway.
I can give you the Kerbal sources if you have the know-how to make your own recovery image.
Best wishes
Imlex

sorry for late response but this thread bumped up so i saw it...
anyway, you are in a tricky situation. I heard that you mfgr is resisting to release kernel sources so compiling won't work.
You can ask for a downloadable firmware update via email, this is option one.
You can ask another user of the identical phone to send you a backup of his boot partition (using dd command) but that requires root. This is option two.
And the third option is to force Kogan to comply to GPL and release kernel sources but i guess no one will care.
If you fail to do the above, then you're screwed.
On the other hand, you can act dumb and say that "it was updating and than this happened bla bla". Sometimes it works.
Bye

[A510][Kernel]Development Questions

Hi Folks,
I already spent some years in customizing Linux kernels and in the last time I was already playing around with Android devices and the possibility they offer to boot customized kernel. Now, thanks to NoThrill, we have a working CWM and my interest rises again. I already compiled the Acer Kernel Sources but I got into trouble booting it. Few months ago, I did the same with a lenovo IdeaPad a1 and it should be possible on the A510 too to boot an outside kernel using the command fastboot boot kernel ramdisk.gz. Problem is, that it does download and boot the kernel - but then it returns to fastboot mode instead of booting android. First I thought, it may be due to kernel errors but it does the same if I am using the stock kernel or the boot.img provided by working ROMs. So my questions are:
Is there any possibility to test an experimental kernel without flashing it first? Do I understand correctly, that it is relatively safe to flash it to the boot partition as long as recovery keeps untouched?
What exactly does the (unexplained) command fastboot continue? I thought it may be used to continue booting process with a downloaded kernel, but unfortunately it seems like it does just the same like a normal reboot ...
Simply pack the kernel into a boot.img and flash it to the /boot partition. If something goes wrong, simply reboot into recovery and flash your original boot.img back. Recovery will always work because it uses its own kernel and therefor is independent of whatever kernel you flash to /boot.
A word of warning though: The Acer kernelsource contains code that could brick your tablet. That needs to be fixed before you experiment any further.
Nevertheless, any work done on the A510 kernel is always encouraged :good:

Actually, no, because (call me stupid) I really have no clue how git works. I know how to get stuff from it, and used it alot, but never looked into actually setting something up or submitting patches.
I am very ashamed

I´m guessing you have a custom recovery installed?.
Get the latest paranoid update from HERE and the latest gapps from HERE.
Boot into recovery and flash ROM GAPPS and if necessary SuperSU and then reboot. Should work.

Hi there Litchi,
Thanks for posting.
I'm so bad at this stuff, I used the Nexus Root Toolkit by WugFresh. I really am a bit clueless on what custom recoveries have been installed. What I can tell you is that I have Paranoid Android 4 Beta with the corresponding GAPPS.
I tried doing Clockword Mod for backups but eventually just stopped trying, and used the backup provided in the toolkit (nandroid I think).
I installed the Paranoid OTA hoping that it would take care of me having to do it through my PC again since the drivers were such a mess last time.
Could you just provide a bit more detail as to the steps I'd need to take for that? I hate being so illiterate at this stuff.
Really appreciate any more help you can give! Thanks.

You really need to read the sticky at the top of this forum called [FAQ] [REF]★ All you need to know about Android | Read this before you post/root ! ★
It gives you all the information you need to know. We pretty much all here advise against using toolkits for the exact reason in your post, it leaves you knowing nothing about your system, what you have got or the knowledge to use it. These toolkits are seen as a shortcut, but please be aware, there are NO shortcuts
Please read through that thread a few times. Don't flash anything else until you understand the process, what you have got and how to use it. Please don't take this the wrong way but you are not ready to flash things yet. Even if you have already flashed something, there are holes in yoru knowledge that can have disastrous consequences.

It may be an issue with the CWM recovery which is what I assume you have installed with the toolkit, as thats about standard...
In android, /sdcard on the nexus 5 isn't actually an /sdcard. /sdcard is actually /data/media/0 so whenever you are looking in what you think is in /sdcard, you're not... it's /data/media/0. It's been like this since 4.2 Jelly Bean, when multiuser support was added to android. The theory is there will be multiple /sdcards, for each user that logs in. The default user is use "0". With me so far?
Before multi-user support, /sdcard for devices with no physical sdcard, was simply /data/media. Now, CWM never bothered to update it's code to point to /data/media/0, so even today, basic CWM doesn't know the full location of your /sdcard. If the updater downloads the files to /sdcard (which it should), then tells CWM to look in /sdcard for the files to flash, the files cannot be seen because CWM is looking in the wrong place.
Essentially, you should look at ditching CWM and it's antiquated configuration in favour of Philz Recovery or TWRP. Both use /data/media/0 correctly as /sdcard

Please forget the toolkit!
The only thing you need is fastboot.
download TWRP or CWM recovery.img and flash it in fastboot. Boot into bootloader, connect the device with usb cable to PC, open cmd in windows and type following:
fastboot devices Enter ... that should give you a number, means your device is connected
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img Enter .... that will flash the recovery of your choice to your device. Then from bootloader you can select with volume up + down to boot to recovery. Do that - in recovery you can select what you want to do. Flash rom + gapps + supersu and you are ready to go.
Here is a good link for learning how to use fastboot. beginners-guide-on-how-to-setup-and-use-fastboot/
Learning fastboot is highly recommended - its the same what fastboot does, with 1 difference --> you know what you do

[Q] Tf700t update help

Hi, guys and gals!
I'm new to the forums, I had a question to ask and I apologize now if this might be too broad or maybe just a stupid question(s).
So, I have a ASUS transformer infinity, the Tf700t tablet which is on the 10.6.1.14.4-20130329
And i've been looking around to figure how why the hell this thing is so slow!, And over researching everyone seems to ultimately point to downloading custom roms like updating the tablet with these i guess jailbreaking methods.
A couple months ago I managed to unlock my device (when I load up the tablet, when it says ASUS on the top left if says this device is unlocked).
Now my question is, I found this CROMI-X, forum on this website that tells you how upgrade the device, and it keeps telling me to root my device, which I can't seem to find anywhere the most recent on for the build that i am on (10.6.1.14.4), also I've downloaded TWRP and i was suppost to make a recovery img or something a ".blob" and it was asking me to write down the exact name of my tablet and I can't seem to find where that is, and i guess you can say I got cold feet to accept since it said that my device can get bricked, SO my question would be, is there any kind of guide out there with the latest updates i'm assuming kitkat? for noobies like me or maybe a video tutorial on how to do all this.
Cause i literally only have my device unlocked, I don't think i've actually rooted my device.
But yea that's about it, sorry if im asking for too much i thought this would be my only hope on making this tablet worth my while, cause this thing wont stop lagging (i've tried cold booting and restoring this thing like 10 times nothing seems to be doing the trick).
Thanks again

I think we can mark this thread as SOLVED
The Solution
So here is what we did
@duperdavid has his tablet unlocked already....:good:
All I did was help him install fastboot, adb, and Windows drivers which can be tricky.....
We than installed TWRP with fastboot
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery twrp.blob
Than we got him a ROM and a GAPPS
Made a backup with twrp.... Than did a full wipe of internal...
Than he did not have a sd card so we pushed the rom and gapps onto the tablet while it was booted into twrp
Code:
adb push nameoffile.zip /sdcard
Than we flashed new rom & gapps
booted into Rom !!!!! Win
We backed up his Nvflash blobs also

[Q] Updated Root Method? Help appreciated!

I just received a "new" Photon Q thanks to a warranty swap from Motorola. When I got my 1st Photon Q last year, I used this thread to root the thing...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856480
That thread is ancient, though, and some of the links don't work.
I've been searching and searching... and I'm stuck. This is my 2nd day of searching, so I'm resorting to a new thread.
The phone is unlocked thanks to Motorola's unlocking tool.
I finally found & downloaded the 6.0.1.3 recovery from here:
http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Following the directions that are pretty uniform across the 'net, I keep getting errors. Is this file/image no longer good? Is there another way to gain root access? I'm not particularly interested in installing ROMs (not opposed to it, it's just not my main goal at this point.) I just want Root access so I can do a few minor tweaks.
Thanks to anyone who can help... this wasn't nearly this difficult the last time I did it!
Try TWRP, it auto-root's the device after flashing recovery.
Use this version until the official is updated.

Thanks for the fast reply!
So, I just download that & use it as the recovery image, right? As in, I use that instead of the 6.0.1.3 file from CWM that isn't working...
Sorry... not necessarily a noob, but it's been a long time since I've fooled with any of this.

No worries. TWRP has directions on how to flash on their page.
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/137
I just use the fastboot method myself. Just use that "test" image I linked earlier - or if you want official, use 2.6.3.1. I'm working to get the official updated, but it's been difficult coordinating with the TWRP team... especially since the device is now in so much limbo. I can tell you the test image works great, I'm still using it.

@PizzaG - Question for you - I see in one screenshot that there is an option, "enable fastboot". I have an A501DL, and currently using mtk-su with Magisk successfully, but no access to fastboot to unlock bl, and no chance of r/w access in system otherwise. Could this help me get into fastboot, and, if so, is there some way I could try to just make that happen, without necessarily using the program?

You have to have the fastboot lk to unlock bootloader. Unless you can find that, not gonna happen.
PS- 1 option that comes to mind is trying to flash a bad boot to the device with sugar and then hope and pray that it reboots into fastboot. It's my understanding that fastboot is still there, just the commands to get to it have been removed. I was able to recovery from a bad brick on my device by flashing a bad boot to it and it rebooted to fastboot. Get ahold of me on Telegram if you'd like to discuss itmore

I was able to recovery from a bad brick on my device by flashing a bad boot to it and it rebooted to fastboot. Get ahold of me on Telegram if you'd like to discuss itmore

Thanks for the reply. I'm new to mtk. I guess by 'lk' you mean little kernel. From the searching I did, it seems a bit over my head. Is there a way to get that?
I'll look into Sugar at some point. Back on my Xperia XC running Sailfish at the moment..

Yes, Little Kernel on MTK is where fastboot lives. I have a couple ideas you could try to force the device into fastboot . Our fastboot lk's we were lucky enough to find in an old dump. Best bet is to scour the net looking for the oldest dump you can and pray the fastboot lk is enabled. You can find me here live: https://t.me/Android_General_Chat
