Hey there, I have this S7 that would just disconnect from WiFi as soon as the screen goes off. When I try to make VoIP calls as soon as I put the phone to my ear and the screen goes out, the WiFi drops. I also confirmed this by running a continuous ping, soon as screen is off, WiFi drops.
Now this only happens at work. At home all is fine and dandy. At work we have open WiFi APs with guest logon pages. Being on the IT team I did create an SSID that was WPA2 locked to test this, but the problem still persists. I tried 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz, Ijumped through every possible solution I could find in the internet, but nothing seems to work! My old Xiaomi worked just fine, what is it with the Samsungs? anyone got an idea?
I don't think that will solve your problem but as nobody replied you, maybe you could try to see in your Galaxy S7, in parameters, then Connections, then Wifi, then at the top right corner, clic on "advanced", and there you have some parameters for the wifi like the one to put Wifi Off when phone is asleep.
Also, check if you have installed any battery saver app that would interact with your Wifi and turn it off while phone is asleep, or something like a Greenify app that would put asleep the wifi service (if there is one).
In the end, if your problem is only at work and not at home, then I would say the problem comes from your router at work. Something in the settings maybe disconnects devices when they're under certain percentage of use or something like that.
I hope that will help you, or at least help you find other things to look for to identify your problem ; )

So I have had the Galaxy tab 7 plus for a while now and I have had 2 major problems that have bugged me for a while.
First, the wifi seems to cutout. I can connect to my home network prefectly fine, but the wifi will cutout, mostly when surfing the internet. While in the browser, if i go to a couple webpages, eventually i will try to load a page and it will not load. I will get a conectivity issue. The tab still shows that I am connected to the network, and even still shows that it is sending/recieving data. So far, the only thing that I have found that fixes it is to turn wifi off and back on. Then it will work fine for a little while and do the same thing.
I have tried setting up in both static and dynamic and it does the same thing regardless. I have made sure that the firmware is up to date on both the tab adn the router. None of my other devices on the network have the same issue. I have also tried multiple different browsers and still the same issue.
Any ideas?
Second, the screen seems to lockout quite a bit. I will go to turn the screen on and it will not turn on. I have to hold down the power button and reboot the tablet to fix it. There does not eally seem to be a pattern that I can tell. It just randomly happens, a lot!

I seem to have those issues two, sometime it won't come out of deep sleep, have to hold the power button to restart. Second the wifi seems to lose it's connection while in standby, even tho it's set not two.

I have had mine for about 6 months and have not experienced any of the issues you are describing. If you have not found others complaining about these same issues, then the problem may be with your specific device. You may want to see what your options are as far as warranties, etc. or maybe someone else on here might have some troubleshooting steps for you. Have you tried contacting Samsung support too? Who knows, they may have some answers for you.
I've had similar wifi issues - have to disable and re-enable wifi in order to continue surfing. It doesn't happen very often. I'm wondering in my case if it's because of all the wifi networks around me. I can typically see 15+ from my neighbors (city neighborhood, houses and apt buildings very close together)

The connection gets really slow and then it is lost. I have to disable and re-enable wifi, but that will only get me a couple more minutes before it craps out again. Intetestingly, a few times when it's crapped out and I fired up Wifi Analyzer, the connection sprang back to life while running that app. I've tried many different settings on the router - Allow b/g, allow b/g/n, allow just n, allow g/n... broadcast SSID, don't broadcast SSID, lock the channel down, don't lock it down... frustrating!!! Any ideas out there?

Had not experience the first problem of yours and I have been to a lot of Wi-Fi. Although that second problem occurred to me about 3 times, it's not frequent, but random. I think it's mostly because of the OS. Maybe this problems will be gone once ICS arrives for our device.

Never experienced this issues. Maybe just random problems with screen unlock but not so major.

As far as I can this is happening with the gaxy tab 2 7",the plus and even with the 7.7. Shame on Samsung,besides this the tab 2 7" has the death grip on the bottom left corner.

I got the Lollipop 5.1 OTA 2 days ago and installed it - everything went smooth and the phone working fine...
But I noticed that if I reboot my router (or turn it off / on again) the Wifi don't reconnect unless I turn on the screen (the second I turn on the screen the wifi connect normally).
I didn't have this issue with Lollipop 5.0.1
P.S.
I know that this is happening because I have a led on my router telling me if any of my Wifi devices is connected or not. And to make sure I also entered the router settings to see if my phone is connected or not.
Anyone noticed that issue with the new lollipop 5.1 ?

I think that your problem is not switching off the router. The problem is when your phone goes to suspension (screen off) and then it drops the wifi off.
My Nexus 5 with 5.1 is doing the same

I've got some similar behaviour here, both when updated from 5.0, and with a fresh install from the factory images. When I arrive at a place with known WiFi, the phone only connects once I turned on the screen. After that, it stays connected until I move out of range and back again.
It's probably a matter of responsiveness/battery life. The more it polls for networks, the more battery it uses. It should connect, even with the screen off, within a few minutes.
That being said, I have my wifi set to always stay connected, and I've seen it not connected when I turned the screen on, then connect a couple seconds later. So, there's that. Curious how often it does that.

That's what I suspected. Sometimes, the waiting game works, but I've had my N5 lying on my desk – where it usually gets full WiFi bars – for about 40 minutes the other day, still it did not connect until I turned the screen on.
Edit: Just now, my phone disconnected from WiFi when the screen turned off, which leads me to believe that this is all caused by the WiFi sleep policy. Could it be that Google messed up something there?

My "research" has led me to believe this is the case.
Anything in terms of a workaround?
I came across those settings in the developer options (see screenshot), especially the "Always allow WiFi Roam Scans" looked promising. Been playing with them, but so far no luck.

exactly the same issues as yours guys are happening since I received the OTA 5.1 and installed it !
I Guess something messed up with this new update in regard of the wifi... as you mentioned.

(With almost everyone nowadays having data ..it is difficult to notice such a behavior due to the fast wifi/data switching)
I have seen this happen as well. My battery graph will even show a missing area for WiFi indicating it turned itself on and off twice within a few hours and then stayed on after that.
Google just now released LMY47I, has anyone had a chance to see if that version fixes our problem? Once I'm off work (in about 8 hours), I'll give it a whirl and report back.

Could you please elaborate on that? I'm familiar with Tasker, but I can't think of a way of dealing with this, since I'm not sure what actually happens with the WiFi. The settings appear untouched.

I'm sorry, but my phone is now in the service center , and press that I do not remember specifically . The idea is that when you disable wifi, a time interval is forced to connect to a particular network . Look presence on the internet , here is full of instructions.

I think the solution is "use vibrate mode on". Get your device to vibrate mod and test it.

So just last night at around 5AM my Galaxy S7 was working perfectly in terms of WiFi (don't ask why I was up at 5AM lol). But I fell asleep and I wake up at around 3PM and it won't find any networks at all. If I go into the WiFi settings and turn WiFi on, the page where it's supposed to list nearby WiFi connections is blank. All it says is "Scanning for WiFi networks..." but nothing pops up. This isn't my home connection because there are TONS of nearby WiFi connections, and I know because I've seen them on the list before, And my laptop is working fine so it's only my S7 that's acting weird. I restarted it multiple times to check it that was the problem but it didn't fix it. Can anyone help?
Is the S7 Stock? What ROM is it running? did you have auto updates enabled? have you wiped and reset it yet?

I have galaxy s7 edge. it won't find any networks at all. I need to fix this. I had a similar problem with my last LG G3. I removed the battery and boot the phone when ever I got this problem. But with the s7 edge the battery can't be removed. I need help with this.. anyone???

I did, it still doesn't work. I contacted Samsung support and they said it may be a physical problem. I did drop my phone and it cracked the screen, but I don't really see how it could be that. But the problem did start a day after I dropped my phone, so maybe.

Sounds very possible that dropping your phone from enough height to crack the screen could also damage internal hardware
Could be something as simple as a cable coming loose, but could also be physically damaged
I have the same problem, my wifi also cant find available networks, but when i try to connect it via WPS it connect and then it also show all available networks as well, but when the light goes or wifi disconnect due to some reason it once again cant find it and i have to connect it via WPS , also it cand find my office wifi

I'm using a Sony Xperia Z5 Dual Android 7.0 facing that issue making me unable to use my WLAN hotspot (which it pretty anoying cause it doesn't only dissallow me to share my internet connection but also I can't do other network stuff between devices I'd use that hotspot for).
So when I try to turn on my the hotspot it simply turns itself off again after small amount of seconds. When I got to WLAN hotspot in settings then I have the active button to switch the hotspot on while it shows me tbat it's of at the moment. Doing that it says "Activating hotspot..." (pretty exactly that) until it's going off again with a quick "Deactivating hotspot" and you could activate it again but it will do nothing again than say "activating" and go off again. While it is "activating" it already shows the active hotspot icon in the top bar of the phone and the hotspot settings are as well already active and no more inactive greyed out. But only for nk idea, 3 seconds probably. Within that short period of time my laptop didn't find my phones hotspot but that might just be down to an to high delay in scanning and finding so I don't know wether it would shortly pop up seeable for other devices.
Earlier that day I had my hotspot working actively (nobody actually joined) but it worked and would have if somebody joined because that issues is not new to me on my phone and when the hotspot activates, then it also works. But half of the time it seems when I want to use it, it doesn't work. I haven't changed any settings inbetween or restarted my phone. It was probably on for one week, but after then trying a restart it still didn't help.
I already changing some one-click stuff like just turning out WLAN, turning off or on data save mode (which stops background data for all apps in mobile internet and WLANs marked as hotspots), turning off or on mobile data. But well, I don't know anything else and earlier it worked with all the same settings so what could be the problem behind that?? Besides that my phone always just works completely normally without any issues, WLAN always works without problems, only Bluetooth sometimes doesn't want to activate and then I see it active after some minutes or hours later, but that can always be fixed with a restart if I needed it instantly. If you just wait and it is active then tough, it is kinda awoken and works instantly then again shutting it off and on.
Phone is not rooted btw.

So i know this is a widespread problem because im on my 3rd pixel 3 and i have exactly the same problem on every one.
When im at home wifi is on but half the time it isnt connected, but as soon as i poke about on the wifi settings it connects. Its like its in some kind of sleep mode or something. I end up using all my mobile data whilst indoors a few meters away from the router! Ive had a pixel 3 since it came out and just cant seem to fix this problem.
Please tell me its a well known problem and some one has worked out a fix
I have not had that problem, but you may be able to reduce the mobile data usage by turning off "Switch to mobile data automatically" in Settings, Wi-Fi preferences.

This is no a known issue and if you're on your 3rd pixel i don't think had anything to do with the phone. It's most likely an issue on your router side. Have you tried resetting it?
Are you by chance using WiFi which is configured as hidden network? This is typically done by checking the checkbook next to "do not broadcast SSID" checkbox.
If you are connecting to such network, there is a setting you have to check while setting up that WiFi connection. It is hidden in normal dialog and so it is easy to miss. This was the root cause for similar issue I have seen on my Android devices including Pixel.
Im not using a hidden network. The weirdest thing is whenever i notice its not using wifi as soon as i pull down on the screen at the top it will connect. like its been caught out lmao. was using the phone just now, an alert comes up to tell me ive used 2gb of data. so i pull down on top of screen and theres an x on the wifi icon, its on but theres an x (probably means not connected to anything) then a second later it connects. i dont click on anything it just connects whenever i pull the top bar down to check. its been happily eating my data while on sat in doors but as soon as i check that status it connects! its damn crazy!
This is exactly what it does every time without fail whenever i notice there is no wifi.

The x on the wifi icon means you are connected to the router, but the router is not connected to the internet. Like everyone else, I think you have a router problem. Rebooting the router may help, but it may be time to replace the router.
Where are you located? It could be that your internet is unable to ping google servers. I have that issue whenever I clean flash, but I am in China so that is why.
This is not a widespread issue and as almost everyone has said, you have a router issue. It's possible that your router "sleeps" when nothing is trying to use it but that's just a guess. My suggestion, get a new router.
