Hey everyone,
Just semi-recently bought an OG Pixel, and was wondering, if any: What kernels do you all use?
Up until now, I've been using nathanchance's updated linux stock kernel.
Currently giving exNoShadez-eas a try but was wondering: what is you favorite kernel currently + why?
So far NoShadez has been good, but not having a local TWRP install is a bit of a hassle. Any and all recommendations greatly appreciated!

Hi, I'm using the Elementalx Kernel. Works fine. Note: only flashable with uninstalled magisk.
I use this kernel since the Nexus 5x, good development. Using it currently with the LSpeed App

I would like to stay on the stock rom but could someone advise which kernel is best for performance

Hello- I posted this awhile ago but it got lost when the forums crashed:
Could someone out there point me to a stock kernel that has root built in and has rom manager support? Right now I have koush's rom CKM compatible kernel and I am using the one click root method- from what I understand it is preferable to have the root built into the kernel- thanks in advance
I would be interested in this as well.
untill samsung releases there d107 source code your out of luck. every kernbal right now is based of the dg27 kernal
Im running stock rom with the mixup kernel. Runs better than stock and everything works the same as if it were stock also. I suggest trying that.

Morning all,
I had recently begun using the Chaos kernel, but with the latest version it looks like it is not going to support stock ROMs. So my question to this group is which custom kernel is good to use with a stock ROM, or should I just use the stock kernel period?
Thanks,
Steve

Chaos supports CM atm and all other kernels support stock (based) roms. Just read the OP`s and try some
Avoid anything that says "CAF"

9.1 supports stock. Some of the new releases haven't really improved anything per se since 9.1 so I would go to his download page and use that one, that is the one I use.
I wonder why they went the CM route? =/
Because neobuddy89 likes cm roms. Shame for me. 10b5 (or 6 whatever) was great

try Faux123. 008 kernel.
Thanks for the responses. I just loaded up the Franco r32 kernel and going to give it a try.
Hello guys,
I'm new to Nexus 5 as well.
I have been using Chroma for few months now/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/rom-chroma-03-31-2015-layers-t3069105
The version I installed on mine is: 8-10-2015 built.
I have been following the post lately,
many people said, 'franco.Kernel' is a good Kernel.
how do I check if I already have franco kernel installed?
I went to About page, it says: 3.4.0-gbebb36b [email protected]#1
also,
if I want to go with franco kernel, what advantages will i get?
do i just need to download this app thru google play to install the franco kernel?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel.free

That is stock kernel. Recommend using blu_spark (aka code_blue) over franco.kernel. I won't say FK is abandoned, and it is a good kernel, but it's just not updated for the N5 much anymore. Same thing happened to the N7 2013. When the devs move on, you should also.
What do you get with a custom kernel? They say battery, performance, etc. Most of it is negligible at best. You'll need to read the kernel OPs.
hello,
thank you for your reply.
which kernal are you using for your nexus 5 right now?

I use elementalx. It is pretty much stock, but you can mod things. The dev's app is great, too.

Chroma used Franco as the built-in kernel in the past but zephik keeps Google's kernel for a few months.

Better battery life? Negligible.
New features like color control, governors (highest impact on battery life), S2W, DT2W, USB fast charge... It varies for each kernel.

I suggest you to read (again & again) the kernel threads on XDA before flashing anything. Franco is a well known kernel but we have other awesome kernels.
so my nexus 5 is stuck on the bootloop or the chroma logo...
I flashed:
1) chroma_hammerhead-ota-2015-10-05.zip
2) tk_gapps-modular-nano-5.1.1-20150927-signed.zip
then the nexus 5 was able to boot fine, and I saw the phone already has SuperSU came with the Chroma ROM
3) I went ahead download the BusyBox, and installed
4) reboot to recovery , and flashed blu_spark_r30-6.0_hammerhead_40fbe53.zip
my phone is not stuck on the ChromaLogo .....
I have also tried,, on the step 3, I flashed without installing Busybox.. It's a no go either..
any help would be appreciated..
Thanks

Here is your mistake: blu_spark_r30-6.0_hammerhead_40fbe53.zip
This kernel version is for Marshmallow.
Hey all!
Currently running PN with ElementalX. Things are going fine but since the pixel has been out for a while there are a good number of Roms and Kernels to choose from. Has anyone run the ElementalX and PN combo and found a different software set worked better? What are you running now?
I found best battery life with PN and Frnaco kernel.

Hey guys have anyone tried to or currently using F2FS on the phone? Do you think it's stable? If so how can I change to F2FS (cause for the love of god I can't find any guide)?
My friend recently change to F2FS on his Mi6X and it's absolutely feels different so I'm quite interested in this atm.
Thank you in advance!

Goto the kernel ROMs section and look for arters thread. He has a guide on getting F2FS enabled on the data partition plus with his kernel. Recent reports show you're not bound to his kernel so you can experiment with what works and what doesn't.
Overall you won't expect that much of a performance jump since the OP6 is pretty great as it is but you can judge for yourself
I had the arter kernel with havoc os for a week and I didn't see any performance improvements, more so, the battery life got a LOT worse than with ext4. Also, you can't encrypt your phone with f2fs and twrp won't be bootable (unless you do it with fastboot boot).

I'm using f2fs now... Very stable... Very fast... No bugs encountered so far.... Used f2fs with arter kernel on 9.0.4, then moved with it to Radioactive kernel without any problem.... And now using f2fs with Elemental X 3.11(3.10)... Verrrryyy STABLE... USE IT ONLY ON DATA... AND CAN FLASH EVERYTHING WITHOUT PROBLEMS...

Hey man so what is your experience with ElementalX compared to arter kernel? I think arter is good since he build it from CAF but I also look for another kernel since I need Kcal, cuz iPhone screen spoiled me :v

What are you looking for in a kernel?
ElementalX is a very stable oriented kernel. Imagine it like a stock+ type of kernel that you can rely on. And if you like tweaking your own stuff it's perfect since you can do just about anything you need.
I personally have not used arters work but it's almost the opposite. He's moving away from the OP stock work since he disagrees with it. He does aim for better cleaner performance.

That's exactly where I'm confusing, OP stock or CAF stock (as Arter mentioned), I'm looking for battery life with stable and consistent performance (the OP is strong enough so I'm not looking forward to boosting it more)
I used Arters kernel and RZ, too with F2FS.
But at the end I stick with Smurf. Feels bit smoother at all.
so is there a howto
I tried changing it in twrp and rebooting and then just get dumped back into recovery.

The instructions are in Arter post in the Kernel thread, basically, you format your data as f2fs, and flash f2fa_fstab then boot.
Please look in the thread for detailed instructions

that didnt work either, his guide just boot loops recovery. But maybe his only works with his kernel.
But I tried the one in this thread again and it worked second time.
