The Parse Error in Android devices is one of the oldest and most common error faced by Android users. The error usually pops up when one tries to install an app on his Android phone. The message appears "Parse Error: There was a problem parsing the package". It turns out to be "the application cannot be installed on your phone due to an issue with the parsing.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Causes of the Parse error in Android.
Before we proceed to the fixes, let’s see what can cause this error. There are several known causes today. The parse error occurs while installing an Android app on your phone. But, the causes can be different.
Making changes to the app’s manifest file (for example, changing the Android OS version).
Damaged or partially downloaded apk file.
Not enough permission to download or install third-party apps from unknown sources.(very rare)
Your Android smartphone OS version or the hardware of your smartphone is not compatible with the app.
Your device security system is blocking a third-party app installation.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Method 1: Allow Apps Installation from Unknown Sources
For the security reasons, the Android smartphone bans you to install third-party apps and software from all sources apart from the Google Play Store. Installing third-party apps from unknown sources can harm your Android phone.
So, if you are trying to install an .apk file, you may face the "Parse Error: There was a problem parsing the package". To fix this and bypass the ban, you should allow app installation from the unknown sources. There is an option in your phone security settings.
1)Go to “Settings”;
2)Then “Privacy”;
3)Find “Unknown Sources” and check the corresponding box. If your are prompted to confirm, tap OK.
4)Go back to the folder where you have the .apk located. Tap on it and install the app.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Method 2: Enable USB Debugging
Enabling USB debugging isn’t really necessary for installing Android apps using the .apk file. Nevertheless some users report that enabling the USB debugging fixed this issue.
To enable USB debugging, you need to enable Developer Option in your Android phone. In doing so, follow next steps:
Go to “Settings”;
Find “About phone” option;
Scroll down to “Build Number”. Tap seven times on it. After 7th tapping you hopefully see a “You are now a developer” message on the screen;
Go back to “Settings”, scroll down to “Developer Options”;
Tap on USB debugging and enable it
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Method 3: Disable Antivirus
The parse error can also occur if your security application is blocking the installation. Most of the Antivirus try to block the installation of the applications that may look untrusted or suspicious. So, if you are trying to install an .apk file, the chance of getting the error is that your Antivirus app is blocking the .apk file and preventing the suspicious installation. Try to disable the Antivirus temporarily and install the .apk file. If your guess is right, you should be able to install the .apk file without receiving any parse error in Android.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Method 4: Damaged or Partially Downloaded .APK File
A damaged .apk file might also be cause of the phrase. Try to download a new apk and install it. See if this can fix the issue. Besides, make sure you download the complete file. In doing so, it is enough to compare the size of prompting and downloaded file. Sometimes, you may partially download a .apk file and face "Parse Error" while installing it.

I just to had to do a fresh install from a Qualcomm dump to 9.0.4. I am running into an issue when attempting to install the Magisk.apk. It attempts to install the apk, however, it quickly errors out with, "app not installed". I have turned off Play Protect. I haven't been able to find the 'Unknown Sources" switch to allow it - thinking that could be it.
Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
Thanks, in advance.

Wierd, i always got a prompt telling me i have to enable this, and taking me to it straight away, never had to find it manually !
So I just installed MIUI 11 and tried to download youtube vanced from XDA. Whether I use samsung internet browser, file manager, or anything else basically I cant install the APK. It just acts like it doesnt even recognize the file format saying "Couldn't find apps to open this file". I've made sure to allow unknown sources from every possible file opener app that executes this.
edit: ok so apparently the latest versions require something called SAI to install, which further requires that you disable MIUI optimizations which further requires that you enable developer settings. Now it installed, it just crashes every time.
Hi! I have LG VN220, and I would like to install google play services on it so that I can run android auto, I've found a site that made an installer for android to install google play services, store, and framework. In order to install an app on the VN220, the package name has to be renamed to com.android.cts.YOURPACKAGENAME. I was able to rename the the installer apk, so the installer runs, the problem arises when the installer tries to stream apk's to androids package installer I get an error that "Your Administrator doesn't allow installation of apps obtained from unknown sources" (There's not setting to allow installation, the only was to do it is thru changing the package name to the above). So here's the question: Can someone who has a basic knowledge of reverse engineering apps rename all the packages to com.android.cts.googleinstaller so all the apps will install on my phone?
p.s. all of the lettering is in chinese because the apk was originally developed for the chinese xiaomi phones.
I found The apk file on this XDA Thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...install Google Play,and Framework when we OTA.
For security, each Android phone by default is set to block installation of apps obtained from unknown sources, means not from Google Play Store.
All you've to do is to check in Android settings "allow installation of apps from sources other than Google Play Store".

That is true with a regular android device, The LG Exalt/VN220 runs on a locked down version of android 5, and does not allow installation of apps unless you rename the package to com.android.cts.yourapp which bypasses the signature check (without that you can only install apps signed by LG or Verizon) If anyone can go thru the apk and change the package name on all the built in apk's to the above, or if someone can tell me how to do it. Thanks!

The error message you encountered, "Turn on Chrome OS Developer Mode to install apps from sources other than the Play Store," suggests that your UMIDIGI BISON Pro smartphone is running on Chrome OS, which is primarily used on Chromebooks. Chrome OS has a security feature that restricts the installation of applications from sources other than the Google Play Store by default.
To resolve this issue and install downloaded APK files on your UMIDIGI BISON Pro, you'll need to enable Developer Mode on your device. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:
Go to the "Settings" app on your UMIDIGI BISON Pro smartphone.
Scroll down and tap on "About Phone" or "About Device."
Look for the "Build Number" or "Build Version" option and tap on it repeatedly (usually around seven times) until you see a message indicating that you have enabled Developer Mode.
Now, go back to the main settings menu, and you should see a new option called "Developer Options" or "Developer Settings."
Tap on "Developer Options" to enter the developer settings menu.
In the developer settings, locate the "Developer Mode" or "Enable Developer Mode" toggle switch and turn it on.
You may receive a warning message informing you about the potential risks of enabling Developer Mode. Read it carefully and proceed if you understand the implications.
Once Developer Mode is enabled, you should be able to install APK files from sources other than the Play Store.
Hey guy's, I hope somebody can help me out here. I can't find any explanation on internet. I want to install an apk from the local storage on my Rog phone 5 ( android 12,un rooted) .
In the old days it was pretty simple, just a slide to activate the "allow unknown sources", click on the apk file and it would install. Now on the rog phone 5 in the apps¬ifications, special app-acces, install unknown apps it only shows a few apps that I can give permissions to install from unknown sources. Like Chrome, file manager, gmail, brave browser etc. ( see picture). So I give the file manager or brave the permission,restart the phone, go to the apk in the file manager but it won't install.
It will just show the contents of the apk. If I select the apk I can remove it, rename it, compress it, anything but install it.
I can choose open with brave but still nothing happens. I tried downloading an app in the playstore to install apk files but it won't even list the apk file. I have no clue why they made something that used to be so easy so complicated. So I hope somebody can enlighten me how to install an apk on this phone. Thanks in advance!
Have you enabled install unknown apps in developers options ? Special app access allows you to allow/not allow individual apps to install unknown apk files. I think you have to enable it in developer options for the native installer first. I may be wrong but it's worth checking.
I'll go check if the option is there and let you know. Tnx man.
The only thing I found was " force app allowance on external drive" and but it changed nothing.

you could try
Code:
adb shell settings put secure install_non_market_apps 1
adb shell settings put secure unknown_sources_default_reversed 1
that would be from terminal on pc or you could install settings database editor from play store and grant it permissions via adb and you will have gui to change system settings
Could you please walk me through how to do this? Tnx.

Ok, first I guess I need to ask some questions. Have you tried a different file manager, installed thru play store ? How many .apk files have you tried to install ? If it is just the one app that you have in storage it may be corrupt. Have you tried a fresh copy of it ? Is it an old app and is it compatible with your Android version ?
I don't know what I was thinking, that isn't in developer options anyway, it's in security. It would seem odd for them to remove the ability to install personal apk.
