Cant install any apk (unknown sources allowed) - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Questions & Answers

So I just installed MIUI 11 and tried to download youtube vanced from XDA. Whether I use samsung internet browser, file manager, or anything else basically I cant install the APK. It just acts like it doesnt even recognize the file format saying "Couldn't find apps to open this file". I've made sure to allow unknown sources from every possible file opener app that executes this.
edit: ok so apparently the latest versions require something called SAI to install, which further requires that you disable MIUI optimizations which further requires that you enable developer settings. Now it installed, it just crashes every time.

[Q] Flash player availability in my country

Hi, Just got my TF and attempted to install flash player. However, i get a message saying it cannot be installed because of my country (Trinidad and Tobago).
Flash capability was an important feature for me, so I would like to know what can I do to overcome this problem...short of moving to another country.
You could search for flash player apk and you should be able to get it that way.
edit: I've uploaded Flash 10.1 here, the latest version is 10.3.

Okay, sorry but I'm new to android...first day actually. I understand the concept of this. The file is the android package file for flash player. If I DL it to my TF, how do I install/setup on the device?
And also...do you recommend searching for 10.3 apk, because an initial google search gave a few results for 10.3, or should i stick with 10.1 that you posted. Thanks.
just go to where you stored it with the file manager app included and open it. Also 10.3 is better.
Okay, thanks for the quick solutions. Off to try.
One thing you will need to do before you can just install it is to go to settings>applications then put a check mark in the 'unknown sources' box. You probably wont be able to install that file unless you do. Then use the inbuilt file manager to install the apk file as seshmaru said above.
And Flash 10.3 is here:

No worries, when you try to install an app from the file manager without having it enabled it tells you and asks you if you want it to redirect you to settings to allow it.

Cool. They've thought of everything then.
Success
Tried it and it worked. Got a message saying it was successfully installed.
Or maybe not....there isn't any icon for the flash player app and websites using flash tell me that I need flash player.
After DLing the apk file, i went to the location and opened it. It said installing, than said successfully installed. Any ideas??
Enable the plugin in the browser.

Sorry ....but...how exactly do I do that?
browser settings>advanced>enable plug-ins. Set to either always on, or on demand if you prefer to click and select the things that load.
Ok, got it to work! Nice.
But, can it work in firefox as well? Pages with flash work in the browser, but in my firefox app

[Q] Installing .apk in CM7 on SGS2

Ok, so I have spent the last week searching for an answer to this problem, and I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out and others who may have similar problems.
With a rooted SGS2 and stable CM7 rom, I wanted to install the stock messaging app as I liked the "bubble" GUI better. Further, I found a copy of a camera app with higher bitrates/other improvements that I wanted to install as well. but every time I install them, I get "application not installed" with a check mark.
My method was:
Checked to install apps from unknown sources
Uninstalling old app (after backup)
Copying new apps to system/app to replace
Using root explorer in r/w to install them (didnt work)
So then tried:
Signing the apps using Signaptik/Zipsigner
Changing permissions to same as stock apps
It seems nothing that I try to install in system/app will install. Actually, any of these apps, no matter their location, will not install. Why is this? I'd really like the better camera app and my old mms.apk back!
Cheers!
------EDIT------
The camera.apk I want to install was built for SGS2, the mms.apk I wanted to install is stock from sgs2
Enable non-market apk installation.
Go to Settings – Applications – tick the “Unknown Sources” checkbox at the very top. Accept the warning which pops up by tapping on OK.
If you downloaded the file on PC, transfer it to phone.(sd card)
Open the file explorer (if you don’t have one, download any file manager from the android market) and browse to the location where you’d transferred the file.
Tap on the file to install it.
They won't install because they have dependency on a framework or application that does not exist in CM7.
Try installing them with ADB
adb install <apkname>
It will give you the full error message.

[Q] How to manually install - getting "App not installed." error

I am trying to install an App which for some reason will not install in the country I am visiting. The App is a free App, but Google Play has blocked it from downloading into this country. I managed to download the app from the evozi apk-downloader but when I click on it in File Manager it will not install and I get an "App will not install." error.
I would like to try and install the app manually but despite all my searching have not been able to come up with a way to do this. I tried copying the apk file to the system/app directory and rebooted, but that did not work. I then downloaded ZipSigner to sign the apk file and put the created opex file in the system/app folder and rebooted again, but still no results. I've tried some other installers but still unable to get it to install, even when I am offline with my GPS off.
How can I manually install an app to bypass the Google app installer?

did you enabled allow installation of apps from sources other than Play store if not go settings> Security> tick unkown sources and try it again it will surely help..and use the file browser from the phone and find the apk that you want to install n click on it and install
hit thanks button if helped
The app I want to install is FlightAware - I travel a lot, hence my desire to install this app before I return to the USA. I found that the ShopSavvy apk also has this problem. Both of these are freeware but somehow they won't install on my phone. My Google account was created in the USA with a USA address and has a USA credit card attached to Google Wallet, but with both apps I just get a "App not installed." error.
I already have the Unknown Sources - Allow installation of Apps from unknown sources Checked and the Verify Apps - Disallow or warn before installation of apps that may cause harm - Unchecked.
hmm then you sure those apks work correctly sometimes errors occur when its incorrectly or incompletely tampered.. or else try this go to settings> application manager>google play store and clear data and clear cache and do the same in google play services and try again
hit thanks button if helped
No, that did not work. I am really looking for a more technical solution to explain how to manually install an opp. Is this not possible in Android?

I am assuming your phone is rooted. If not, then it will be better to root it before going further.
Here is a link you can try:

The ADB SDK is available here:

Enabling Unknown Sources on Miui 10.2

So this is as basic as it gets. SORRY in advance. I googled and looked on youtube and it seems as if this option is missing in the latest version update. Is anyone else able to see " Enable Unknown Sources" in Miui 10.2? Or am I just blind as a bat?
Thanks for your patience
Here's what I found:
Settings>Manage Apps, now select the app you've downloaded the apk from, scroll down and you should see the option to install from unknown sources and give it the permission.
Does it work?
I too having the same Issue
Am downloaded that app from whatsapp., as U said am enabled install apps from unknown sources within apps>manage apps>whatsapp
And also tried from Google Drive there is no use
On the 9T using MIUI11 you follow these instructions. In short that's
- Settings
- (Search for) Special App Access
- Install Unknown Apps
- Choose your app (I use Solid Explorer, great file manager)

Question Install apk from local storage

Hey guy's, I hope somebody can help me out here. I can't find any explanation on internet. I want to install an apk from the local storage on my Rog phone 5 ( android 12,un rooted) .
In the old days it was pretty simple, just a slide to activate the "allow unknown sources", click on the apk file and it would install. Now on the rog phone 5 in the apps&notifications, special app-acces, install unknown apps it only shows a few apps that I can give permissions to install from unknown sources. Like Chrome, file manager, gmail, brave browser etc. ( see picture). So I give the file manager or brave the permission, restart the phone, go to the apk in the file manager but it won't install.
It will just show the contents of the apk. If I select the apk I can remove it, rename it, compress it, anything but install it.
I can choose open with brave but still nothing happens. I tried downloading an app in the playstore to install apk files but it won't even list the apk file. I have no clue why they made something that used to be so easy so complicated. So I hope somebody can enlighten me how to install an apk on this phone. Thanks in advance!
Have you enabled install unknown apps in developers options ? Special app access allows you to allow/not allow individual apps to install unknown apk files. I think you have to enable it in developer options for the native installer first. I may be wrong but it's worth checking.
I'll go check if the option is there and let you know. Tnx man.
The only thing I found was " force app allowance on external drive" and but it changed nothing.

you could try
Code:
adb shell settings put secure install_non_market_apps 1
adb shell settings put secure unknown_sources_default_reversed 1
that would be from terminal on pc or you could install settings database editor from play store and grant it permissions via adb and you will have gui to change system settings
Could you please walk me through how to do this? Tnx.

Ok, first I guess I need to ask some questions. Have you tried a different file manager, installed thru play store ? How many .apk files have you tried to install ? If it is just the one app that you have in storage it may be corrupt. Have you tried a fresh copy of it ? Is it an old app and is it compatible with your Android version ?
I don't know what I was thinking, that isn't in developer options anyway, it's in security. It would seem odd for them to remove the ability to install personal apk.
