I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed this. It seems to be a coordinated effort - almost a conspiracy that phones bigger than 5.7 inches don't make it to the USA and/or receive little to zero promotion and/or support.
It's nice to know I'm not the only one whose been clamoring for a 7" phone since the first Samsung Tab was released! PUT A CELLULAR RADIO IN IT, I said.
I'll be bringing the Zenfone 3 Ultra into the states in a couple of months. Might even have a go at opening up the US LTE bands with the post at the top of this forum.

And if the reviewers do review the phablet many say that the phone is way too big. I am convinced that the people that say that have abnormally small hands. LOL.

Simple supply and demand. There's not enough demand. Just stick with what's most profitable.
As more people mature ( grow older ) carriers will be forced to sell/allow larger smartphones on their networks. I believe that Sprint , T-Mobile , Verizon , and AT&T are the biggest stumbling blocks to larger phones. After the carriers I think the manufacturers don't want to go big - if they can charge more for less , why not?

I am not old and my eyes are excellent but I agree with the larger screens are easier to read 100%. I very much dislike trying to look at a web page on a sub 6 inch screen. What a horrible experience. If the web page is not designed for mobile you are just scrolling all the time. People are paying all this money to have data on their phones and then having to look at all that tiny font. No thank you. Plus videos and movies look so awesome on the larger size screens.

there is, one that i know for sure is huawei mate 8, a 6 incher, it supports ATT and T-Mo LTE bands in USA.
only gripe - the Kirin 950 SoC, not the performance side of it, but the no source code side of it, meaning no 3rd party roms, OS upgrade and security patches are at mercy of huawei, they are not known to be diligent when it comes to that ..

The Samsung Tab S 8.4 certainly had a cellular radio in it, that was my last cell phone...

I doesn't easily fit in your pocket, but that's really the only size hindrance. I actually still have it and use it in my car as a navigation device. It still preforms quite well..
It was cheap too under $500 when new, which is quite a bit cheaper than any flagship phone at the time.
It seems that the Zenfone 3 Ultra (International version & no warranty) is being sold on a large Internet website but it costs several hundred more than they said it would be. It is priced out of reach at almost $700 it is not worth the money. I am not buying.

It's priced high because it just came out, if you wait a month it should come down to normal pricing....

The 4GB/64GB model runs for $630 or so for first hand retail (IE: direct from the original seller). The $700 you mentioned is from a reseller (IE: they paid $630 and are reselling it for a small profit).
The 3GB/32GB model runs for about $460, and is probably more in line with the pricing you had heard announced.
The real trick is finding either model in stock at a first hand retailer, as the resellers are buying them up as quickly as they can.
There is a market for the plus 5.7 phones. Everytime one these phones are announced , people that like smaller phones complain as if they'll be forced to switch. Most of those that prefer smaller phones act as though they don't want the larger phones released.
Why does this bother people that like smaller phones? When the original Galaxy Note came out it was groundbreaking for a mainstream company to release a phone that big. Now it's commonplace ( I'm looking at you Apple - iPhone Plus )

Just a little I formation for ones that might be looking to purchase the Asus Zenfone ultra (ZU680KL), with 4gb of ram and 64gb internal memory.
I purchased mine new, from EBay with a one year warranty. Purchase price was 593.00, factory unlocked, with free shipping and handling (still higher than originally advertised). Device came from Never-Msrp, out of Houston, Texas.

Cricket, which is owned by AT&T, also speeds are capped by them at 4Mbps on 4G and 8Mbps on LTE. I get Hsdpa bands and Gsm bands. The phone has LTE bands, but can't be accessed here. I'm hoping to root soon, not sure if the LTE bands can be accessed then. This however is not real important to me or I would have not purchased the phone anyway. I'm getting 3Mbps on download speeds. Was getting 4-5Mbps on my HTC 10, thru Cricket. Have had no problems to ask for any factory support yet. Asus sent paperwork with phone for a one year warranty against defects and workmanship (standard for most phones). I have something thru eBay, not sure for how long. The warranty really does you no good if you root the phone though. I had a one year warranty on my HTC One M8 and have a one year on my HTC 10, but they are rooted, so their warranties we're voided anyway. Never had to ask for factory support on them either. Asus has a website devoted to their phones, with various types of information, even including how to's on bootloader unlocking on many models (including the zenfone 3 deluxe), source codes, etc.
I guess it's a matter of what you want out of a phone. If you want a faster processor and LTE in the US, this is not the phone for you. It's not the phone my HTC 10 was (gave to my wife), because of the processor, and LTE. But I was essentially looking for a 7 inch tablet with 4gb of ram, great camera, video player with a very good sounding dual speakers, external SD card, and has phone ability. Very hard to find many 7 inch tablets with all the above specs together. I get all of the above with this 6.8 screen Ultra phablet. Also the build quality of this phone has really improved over the previous Asus phones. Realy like the metal workmanship. Not quite as good as HTC 10, but getting there. So far very happy with it and hoping they will unlock the bootloader like they did for the Deluxe.

Also, as a side note. There is a factory rom and source code for the Ultra ZU680KL on Asus site for download, in case you would have a problem.
Motorola nexus 6 is 5.96 inches FYI.

If you want to know why manufacturers are not shipping as much to the US lately, look at the patent system in the US. Once you ship any products to the US, you are counting down the time until you get sued by someone in east Texas...

I'm thinking to pre-order the 8+ from Samsung, primarily to save the $130 down, and pay the increased monthly payments.
I'm on the original Jump, includes 2 upgrades annually without paying any balance due on device jumping from.
Are there any drawbacks/downsides regarding going directly to Samsung?
Does Samsung check credit or does Tmo as before, and does my plan, including Jump stay the same, including using Jump to pre-order the 8+ and not owe any money on the 7 Edge?

Buying on samsung is not the same as buying from T-Mobile. You pay with a credit card or PayPal or Samsung Finance. Nothing to do with jump or T-Mobile, but they do ship the Free promo stuff with the phone.

Ordering from Samsung you pay the phone off in full upfront or if you use Samsungs financing you will have a bill completely separate from T-Mobile for your S8+.
And thats the better option to finance it separate so it can be network unlocked in case you decide to switch carriera

Buy from Samsung amd you will (probably) get firmware updates more quickly than wa8t8ng for carrier to add their bloatware and test it all before release for OTA
On the other hand will your carrier lock you out of VoLTE, WiFi calls etc if you dont have their firmware?
I am In UK and ordered from Smasung using their annual upgrade program £77.95 up front then £33.50 a month for 24 months (but you can get the latest handset every 12 months and extend the payments for another 24 months)

After reading everyone's replies, I'll most likely purchase the S8+ from Tmo, after taking all the info into consideration.
I have 2 other questions/comments regarding pre-ordering from Tmo:
1) Is there any other way to save the $130 up front payment, considering I'll likely Jump in a year or so, which is my average?
2) I like to have the time for transferring the info from my S7 Edge to the S8+ in the comfort of my home instead of at the store where I'm hurried and transferring all info can be difficult considering I'd have to hand in the phone to complete the purchase prior to transferring the information.
If I pre-order from Tmo via online or customer service via phone call, would that be the same as walking into a store to pre-order and pick up the S8+ in regards to using my Jump to pre-order, and my account remaining exactly the same.
This way I can transfer all the info in home, and then mail in my S7 Edge within the allotted time.
Meh, it's cheaper from Samsung, I pre-ordered from Sprint and it is costing me more but I'm gonna try and get the upgraded stuff for pre ordering for 99$ the headphones and SD card and stuff though... Either way it's all gravy
I have Jump with Tmo, so if I purchase from Samsung, I can't use Jump, meaning I'd owe the balance on my S7 Edge. So that's a no go.
Does the unlocked version get the same benefits as the T-Mobile version, like VoLTE, WiFi calling, same networking capabilities, etc.?
As I understand it, there is only one US version of the phone so all the T-Mobile network extras will be there if you buy from Samsung. I plan on buying an unlocked model from BB or Samsung once they go on sale early May to avoid carrier added bloatware.
Funny thing just happened a couple of hours ago.
I got a faint pink vertical line, from top to bottom, approx. 1/2" from the right edge on my Samsung S7 Edge. First time I noticed it. It lasted a few minutes, disappeared, returned, then disappeared again. I'm certain it will return. I did some research and saw this is an issue for some and is a hardware problem, something to do with a vertical driver, etc., which can only be remedied with a replacement LCD or device.
I purchased the device on April 6, 2016 and have the original Jump with insurance.
I called Tmo and resolved the issue within 15 minutes. Seamless customer service with very knowledgeable reps.
A replacement S7 Edge will be shipped to the Tmo store near me and will arrive tomorrow.
I'll go to the store within 14 days, pick up the new or refurbished? S7 Edge, hand in my 7 Edge, and the store will handle the rest. They'll help me with the transferring of data if needed.
The total cost will be $5.
Because the issue is a hardware problem, the Tmo insurance extends the Samsung 1 year warranty for as long as I have insurance.
I mention the above because Murphy shows up when you least expect it and Tmo insurance is worth having, for extending the Samsung warranty without having a deductible, unlike with a loss, broken screen, damage, etc., which incurs a $175 deductible.
Transferring data is a pain, and now I'll have to do it twice if I pre-order the S8+.

Interesting... the same thing happened to me about a week ago. Pink line that started intermittent and then stayed. Same exact experience at TMO. I thought about waiting and just swapping for the S8+, but might as well use the Jump I've been paying for
BTW, the phone I got looked new and needed to be upgraded to Nougat before I was able to do the Samsung Switch restore, so plan on some time at the store.

I wouldnt buy from either because they will both be snapdragon and have locked bootloaders.
Go exynos, no point in getting snapdragon samsung devices now.

Not a bad idea, just not easy to accomplish in the US. While the odds are much better its not 100% that the international version wont be locked down just like ours.

I hear ya, but I'll be getting the phone from Tmo so I can keep my Jump, insurance, etc., unless there's a way to get a Exynos device from them.

I'm probably going to cancel my order soon. Was going to test it out see if i can get it early enough to make some cash. Anyone know or trust the Samsung.com refund or restocking fees? Online is different than chat and both are different than phone support so it's really hard not to just cancel it now.

Yes, I wish I could root so I could get rid of things like the volume too high nag and the soon to be famous "Wipe your camera lens" nag.
But the trade off of Samsung Pay is worth it to me. Touch Wiz has matured now making the UI not so bad. I thought not being able to load a custom ROM on my Note 7 would be awful, but I learned to deal with it.
Deciding which (T-Mo or Samsung) to buy from is where I am at now after eliminating waiting for an unlocked or going international. The T-Mo store told me today that a Samsung purchased phone would not have WiFi calling on their network. Not sure I believe that so I'm digging more. The VR is a nice perk from buying from either over an unlocked version, I'll never be on Sprint or Verizon, so it just leaves the question of ch 12/17. Will the A models not have ch 12 and the T models not have 17 ?? Or will they be interchangeable?

I was at T-Mo store today and was told many things I'm not sure I believe. Basically it's tough to get the real answers.
1. Pre-orders must also have a post paid plan at the time of order. No pre-paid plans. It doesn't matter if you pay for the phone in full.
2. You must have the post-paid plan for at least 40 days before unlocking moving to a pre-paid plan.
3. S8s purchased from Samsung .com will not have WiFi calling
4. A SIM kit is $25. listed as $10 online
5. 10GB tethering promo ends 4/6

My current pre-paid plan is due to expire. I thought I would buy a T-Mo SIM/prepaid plan for my existing Note 3 (SM-N900A) to confirm good signal etc, then transfer the service to the S8+ when it arrived. I was told that was not possible. Let me count the ways.....
While there I also tried having WiFi and Mobile Hotspot on at the same time on their demo S8+, nope. This is something my AT&T Note 7 would do after the trade in. This is nice for me since it lets me give my Android Head unit internet access without having to manually turn hotspot/WiFi on and off every time I enter/exit my car. I found out that this task can't be automated by Tasker.
I tried getting answers from T-Mo chat and they blew me off saying I needed to call, but the office was closed.

Hi, it's my first day with U11.
I returned a Galaxy S8+ for a full refund because the device restart randomly and it's a common issue according to Samsung forum. The screen altough pretty had pinkish tint at both side so not perfect.
Today I received my new HTC U11 6 GB RAM edition from Hong Kong. The device is almost perfect except for a stuck pixel at the bottom of screen (see screenshot). Thankfully it's no so visible and return it from Chile to Hong Kong is a pain in the... Indeed I noted the stuck pixel because the bottom light of the screen is not uniform as some soft shadows appear (like a soft light bleed defect). It's pretty difficult to get a flagship without some type of screen flaw.
The second issue I noted is that if I'm downloading updates or any heavy usage through WiFi and I also make a call using UMTS I hear some statics in the speaker. It's the first time I heard something like this but it was also the first time these two thing happened concurrently on my smartphone.
This interference is always there if the phone is connected to a 5 ghz wifi and is more notorious if some app is using data or you're loosing the wifi signal. I think it's some type of isolation issue.
In general I'm satisfied but not 100%. At least this phone doesn't restart. Pretty impressive that in 2017 technology is not perfect or maybe I'm so strict.

If i would pay more than 600 Dollar for a mobile it must be perfect. When I pay I don't give them 500 Dollars in perfect condition and 100 Dollar cut in half. They receive all the money also in perfect condition. So it's just fair to expect the same. Congratulations for your new mobile. And i dont want to make you regret your phone but if i would see any dead pixel or any other flaw I will keep returning it till I get a perfect one.
But I understand it's like you mentioned a pain to arrange a swap from freaking Hong Kong to Chile. And was the mobile much cheaper than the prices in Chile? What made you order it from there mate?
I ordered from Hong Kong because I wanted the Asian version with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB of space. It was a little cheaper than here. The problem is that in Chile this phone will be sold only by one carrier I don't like (Claro). Anyway I received a 10% discount from the seller. The seller is very professional.
I received one device from the first batch so my next phone (maybe HTC U12) will not be from the first batch. I'll wait at least two months since release.

I actually get the same interference/static noise when making a phonecall and transferring data over wifi... anyone else get a similar issue?
Nope, although I have the 64gb version I don't have any dead pixels or issues with static while wifi is running.
The dead pixel, although annoying, does fall into the normal category for lcd. I believe it is something like 1 in 4million pixels fail and that is within the industry standard for a pass.
You can return the device as "not up to standard" but the seller has the right to refuse to do anything about it because it is within tolerance.

Just got mine from carphone warehouse UK.... booted up, and guess what... stuck (on) pixel on bottom of screen. Once seen, can't be unseen. Very noticeable in lower light.
Can't even remember the last time I bought a phone with a dud screen (might have been G5 with too much light bleed)
Returned for a refund today (all respect to CPW... no problem with the return).
Think I'll stick with my S8+ because the screen is so much better....looking off angle wasn't a joy on the U11. BUT, I must say, in the short time I had the U11 it is the smoothest phone I've ever had. Fingerprint reader runs rings around S8+. Camera is superb too (a wee bit laggy though).. so Samsung could take a leaf out of HTC's book for UI.
Sprint no longer carries HTC. If I got one of the unlocked versions, could I get it to work on Sprint? I was really happy with it and don't want a Samsung and not sure about LG.
I'm so angry about having it stolen... all I want are my pictures! Hoping at least some of them were backed up on google...

I literally just purchased a Sprint Sim Unlocked one from this seller last week for $150, and I can only recommend him highly.
Phone was closer to 10/10. It looks brand new. Not even any scratches around the charging port, usually the first place to see wear even if the phone is in a case.
I converted mine to a US Unlocked CID and flashed a US Unlocked RUU to it and am using it on Tmobile, but if you are a sprint customer
you shouldn't need a Sim Unlocked version and can save $30.
I came from an HTC 10 and I am LOVING this phone, btw.

Thanks guys! Well guess what? It WASN'T stolen! For some reason Find my device was showing it five towns away, but it wasn't. I had searched everywhere for it, and tried calling it to hear it ringing somewhere, but when it rang through one time, then went to voicemail the next, I figured they turned it off and checked FMD. I freaked out and spent 4 hours changing all my passwords, calling my banks, etc. Well, a week later, I was looking under my bed for one of my cats, and there it was! It must have fallen off and bounced all the way under the bed! I looked around the bed but not really under it, never thinking it would go that far. The battery died after the first call to it, which is why it went to voicemail. I'm really pissed at find my device showing erroneous info.

...and to think you coulda been using fingerprint unlock the whole time. It may cause general paranoia, I only recently adaptered it after seeing someone going into multi profiles using different fps.
However it brings a definitive quantity of security in case of just such loss

Oh ya? I have the HTC 10. It's my third one because of the terrible luck I've had with it, and this one is on its way out now. Screen is cracked pretty bad (especially around the finger print reader) and the camera app won't boot up anymore.
I was thinking of getting the LG G7, but I'm hearing some really shady things about LG phones, so I may stick with HTC and hope that I can get some quality time out of it. I think I'll grab one of those phones you got. Seems like a good deal and I really can't be bothered to spend lots of money on a phone these days. I just want something that works and has good sound quality.

I like the U11, and it is reportedly getting a pie update very soon as I see two or three posts in here in a few threads over the last 10 hours reporting Pie update just released for U11.
It takes pretty good pictures and has pretty decent speakers. Not as good pictures as some modern phones.
What I find crazy is that phones in the last year that cost as much as this used but are new (midrange so called phones) have equal hardware specs to this.
I would pass on an HTC U11 and get a new Samsung A70. Porcelain case, Base version 128 GB and 6 RAM, Android updates for 2 more years, flashy new battery, can be found for $275 slightly used.

This would make the most sense for an average user but what I love about HTC phones is their audio capabilities (headphone output and video recording). I'm almost certain that the mid range phones cut back on that stuff, cause 99% of the consumer market doesn't care about that (same way I don't care about self cameras). I think LG is the only other company that cares to put that kind of stuff in their phones, but from what I read about them they're pretty ****ty when it comes to support. So I'm stuck with HTC for the time being.
Looking to get one of these for my daughter. She broke her Nokia 7.1 display and asked for something that takes better pictures if we're replacing her phone anyway. I had Gcam running on that Nokia but I think an actual Pixel would do her better, and just run smoother too.
With the current prices for used/refurbed, I think a P3 XL would be great, even if there are no more updates for it.
What do you guys think? Any versions to avoid or issues to look out for? Someone mentioned that battery life is iffy especially on a used model, but she's not a power user (mostly music, some messages and calls and occasional selfies with friends- no social media or browsing).

I think it's a good idea, with some caveats. Excellent for the mentioned needs, but as said, even if it's described as 'Mint', odds are the battery has been cycled hundreds of times.
This is listed on ebay for 219, brand new, unlocked. I've bought from that seller and they are reputable for sure. At least going that route you won't have to worry about the battery.
Yeah no more official updates from google, but Lineage will continue to make builds for this device for (probably) years to come.
Absolutely worth considering.
Things to look out for - a locked bootloader. Verizon and AT&T phones have locked bootloaders. You can't install LOS with a locked bootloader, so no more updates for those phones. Also, when sellers say the phone is unlocked, they mean the SIM is unlocked, not the bootloader.

I just had my Pixel 3 battery replaced at uBreakIfix for $100. The original battery lasted 2 years. I could have nursed it along a few months more, but decided it was time.
Also consider a new Pixel 2, if you can find one. I bought a new Pixel 2 XL a couple of months ago. It was much cheaper than the Pixel 3s were going for.

I bought a Galaxy S10 used that still has decent battery, and my LG G7 which is around the same generation as the Pixel 3 still can go all day. Is the Pixel battery just more prone to conking out early? She could use my LG but honestly I sold her on the Gcam, dual selfies and unlimited google photo storage (she's been using compressed storage for photos since it was free on all phones, and missed the memo about losing all her storage space earlier this year).
Here's the thing:
If I get it from Swappa, it comes with a 3-month Mint SIM trial prepaid. She's on Google Voice so I tend to swap plans around whenever there's a deal, so that knocks about $45 off the price of the phone since I'd be otherwise paying that $15 a month elsewhere. Still worth getting new over that deal? There are pretty mint ones (9 out of 10 condition) for under $150 there, so total would be ~$100 after service discount.

The battery would still last me all day, but it would discharge very fast once it got under 30%. I figured I'd rather replace it than risk losing the phone at a bad time.
As for price, it all depends on what deals you find. I paid $120 for the new Pixel 2 XL a couple of months ago. I get my service for $10 a month (with 500 Mb of data) from RedPocket. I'm quite satisfied with those numbers.
That's a good deal. Can't find a Pixel 2 right now new. I was paying $10 a month for 1GB of data previously but she's constantly running out from google photos and spotify, so was planning on moving up to $15 for 4GB on Mint anyway. Especially right now, buy 3 months get 3 free. So essentially 7.50 a month for the next 6 months!
However... if I get the free sim from Swappa its probably only 3 months. Either way, a good deal. If I buy new from Ebay (even if I could find it), I'd still have to pay for a Mint sim

I recently bought a 'Mint' Lg G8 on swappa, and it 'looked' pretty close to mint, very light small scratches on back. But when I modified the rom so I could see the 'svc menu', the battery stat indicated it had been fully cycled about 280 times. Research indicates a battery should last from 300 to 500 cycles. And just like dcarvil, this G8, when it gets to about 30%, it' drops fast. Incredibly fast.
Other phones I've bought on swappa that were 'open box', actually were exactly that, virtually new. Now we see sellers describe it as 'open box'... without the box!!
It's all anecdotal, some good, some bad, we take our chances.

I would recommend looking on Swappa as it is stricter than Ebay on quality and even a Fair Swappa phone is quite good and should describe the defects in the listing.
On swappa, the cheapest verizon and sprint 3 XL are under $100, but the Google or Tmobile version (which can be boot-loader unlocked and rooted are up to $150. Also notice that at $200 and above you can even get the Pixel 4 XL. Also, the 3a XL may be a cheap option, but it has slower processors so not as good, but still better than the old Nokia 7.1.
I definitely recommend one where the boot-loader is unlock-able as it opens up many options. To stay completely stock or unlock and use any OS build she would like.

I found a swappa 128 gb in good condition for $120, and it's supposed to be the Google version so bootloader unlockable!
Just ordered it. I've heard mixed things about the latest A12 roms, so I like the idea of keeping it unlockable for customs. Are there are any good aftermarket roms that stay close to stock re: network function (VOLTE)?
I've have bad experience with Lineage based roms in the past because networks like Tmobile where I live rely on VOLTE for decent calling support.

bad experience with lineage because u need volte? Volte works perfectly on lineage, sorry but your comment in that regard makes no sense. I had a pix 3 with lineage and volte and vowifi worked perfectly on it.

Well yes it is different. LG and Sammy for sure have proprietary IMS implementations, I'm not sure about Moto. What that means is that if the proprietary implementation can't be ported, then things like volte will only work on stock.

VoLTE works fine on my P3 with LOS 18.1.
